Book Description
Raw, brazen and totally intense, Fucked Up + Photocopied is a collection of frenetic flyers produced for the American punk scene between 1977 and 1985. Many were created by the musicians themselves and demonstrate the emphasis within the punk scene on individuality and the manic urge of its members to create things new.
Images were compiled out of whatever material could be found, often photocopied and, still warm, stapled to the nearest telephone pole to warn the world about next week's gig. One glance and you can sense the fury of live performances by bands such as Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys and The Minutemen, and, through the subtext the reader is exposed to the psyche of a generation of musicians stripped bare: The Germs, J.F.A, NOFX, The Circle Jerks, X, Devo, The Cramps, The Exploited, Screamers, The Avengers, The Dils and more.
Fucked Up + Photocopied is the definitive reference book on the North American Punk scene and covers New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, MA, San Jose, CA, Washington, DC, Houston, TX, and Canada's Toronto and Vancouver.
Winner of the Firecracker Alternative Book Award 2000 for Music.

Flyers, always cool.......2006-05-12
I'm not quite sure how the publisher afforded to print massive hardcover editions of what is essentially a collection of flyers, but i am thankful he did. I love flyers-- they are little pieces of history and art. The layout was unnecessarily jumbled and weird for no reasons many times. Plus the quotes from some punk/hardcore luminaries was uninspiring a best. But who cares ... the book is cool.
Excellent!!!!.......2005-09-02
Essential for the lovers of the 80's punk & hardcore movement...a must have also for art designers to understand their roots of gig art
comprehenive collection of American punk flyer art.......2005-08-23
I'm pleased that Bryan Ray Turcotte and his cohorts managed to preserve and resurrect the sometimes annoying, sometimes stunning epehemal art of the 70s-80s punk scene. This is a nicely-packaged collection of the era's most exciting do-it-youself graphics.
amazing.......2002-02-23
An absolutely gorgeous book. Even if you don't [care] about punk rock, it would still be fascinating.
This is also an exceptional historical document. The history of the margins is lost so easily -- a book like this does a tremendous service to posterity.
As to the guy from SF who says that this book distorts history and gives "unnatural significance to marginal bands..." Well, it probably does, and so what??!! [....]
Essential to understanding punk rock........2001-02-06
This book shows that punk rock lived (lives?) more on a local level than history would show. It's about being in bands, going to local shows at clubs that might last 6 months, making your own fliers - essentially the DIY concept.
My only gripe with the book is that it gives an unnatural significance to *very* marginal bands, whom I'm won't name. Let's just say that some folks wanted to rewrite history and overstate their significance in the local scene.
Overall, though, this is the kind of book I never thought would see print. Old PR fliers; who would want to see those? At least a few people, I guess...

A useful book........2005-02-25
Whenever I see a book which claims to be an "encyclopaedia" of a particular subject, I expect it to be laid out in encyclopaedic form - i.e. with every word of relevance to that subject listed and then fully described in alphabetical order. Why? Because, by definition, that is how an encyclopaedia is laid out. Similarly, when I see a book which claims to be a "complete" guide to whatever, I do not expect to find large sections of the subject matter missing. Thankfully, in this case, the book is a fairly complete guide to the overall subject of Nature Photography.
This includes a section on high speed photography with inclusion of some outstanding examples of birds, butterflies and insects all in mid flight, photographed by that world-famous exponent of this particular aspect of photography - Stephen Dalton. Similarly, there is also a section on underwater photography - although, I did find the photographs here to be rather bland, uninspiring and some were even out-of-focus. The same is also true of a number of other photographs throughout the book - although, if those poor photographs can be ignored, there are still many valuable lessons to be learned from this work.

Book Description
It's hard enough for your average person to get a date with all the anxieties we have in our modern world. For Jack, it's even worse. Where he lives, superheroes are a common sight, flying through the air and showing off their outrageous muscles in their skintight outfits. In comparison, a regular guy must seem boring and puny. So when he meets Nora in the midst of two steroid-cases beating the tar out of each other, he can't help but be a little giddy that she has agreed to go out with him. Too bad it's not that simple. Nora works for Expose, the leading magazine for superpowered trends. Chasing a scoop is a little more important to her than getting scooped off her feet, leaving Jack in the dust once again. To make matters worse, his cat, Guthrie, has gone missing, and though the feline will be returned to him - he's not going to be the same cat Jack remembers.

"Church Chuckles" is an amusing collection of cartoons about church life and the people in it. When you read it, you will undoubtedly find one or two cartoons which perfectly describes you or someone in chruch that you know. You will end up doing exactly what the title says: chuckling.
This amusing little book is great to have and read on a day when you are down. The cartoons are not offensive and will bring a smile to your face.

Book Description
Outrageously talented, remarkably handsome, internationally renowned, and dead at the age of 21. More than 40 years after the tragic car crash that killed him, Eddie Cochran remains one of rock and roll's most lamented "What Ifs." A trailblazing guitarist, gifted vocalist, hit-making composer and arranger, and budding whiz-kid producer, Cochran quickly ascended from Midwestern obscurity in the late '50s to become one of nascent rock and roll's leading lights. He penned or recorded many of the most recognized songs in rock history - "Summertime Blues," "Nervous Breakdown," "Somethin' Else," "C'mon Everybody," "Twenty Flight Rock," "Sittin' in the Balcony" - songs whose distinctive sound and defiant, often wryly humorous lyrics have been eagerly digested, analyzed and lovingly reinterpreted by generations of rockers after him, from The Beatles to the Sex Pistols, The Who to U2. Three Steps to Heaven: The Eddie Cochran Story - co-authored by Cochran's nephew, also a gifted musician - is the first American biography of this uniquely American rock legend, who was among the first to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The book is a detailed portrait of Cochran's personal and professional triumphs and travails, with fascinating insight into the rock pioneer's life that only a family member can provide. 33 B/W photographs; Hardcover.

I Remember .......2007-01-01
The first Eddie Cochran recording I bought in 1972 was the double-LP Legendary Masters United Artists#9959. I now have all of his recordings, the 3 VHS movies Eddie appeared in, the DVD Buddy Holly Story with Gary Busey and Jerry Zaremba as Eddie; the DVD La Bamba with Brian Setzer and his Gretsch as Eddie. He is also portrayed in Renee Zellweger's "Shake Rattle and Rock!" Eddie first toured with Buddy Holly in the November 1957 show that included the Everlys, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, LaVern Baker and Paul Anka. Earlier in 1957 Eddie released his first UK single Twenty Flight Rock. On 7/6/57 Paul McCartney impressed John of the Quarry Men with his rendition of it after watching John's version of the Del-Vikings Come Go With Me. Lennon also hired Paul's friend George who played Raunchy note-for-note on the bus. 3 years later the trio attended Eddie's March 14, 1960 concert at the Liverpool Empire where the shrieking screaming fans drowned out most of the sound. This concert also persuaded them that they needed amps. There is something about the sound that Eddie generated on that $385 orange amber red 1956 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins Western model serial#16942 with gold anodized Bigsby tremolo, which Eddie had modified. He replaced the front one of the pair of De Armond Dynasonic pickups with a black covered Gibson P-90 pickup to get the mellow Gibson L5 sound. Chet Atkins began designing Gretsches in 1955 and played guitar on Elvis's Heartbreak Hotel and the Everly's Wake Up Little Suzie / Bye Bye Love. When recording to cassette, increase the 'record' level during the Gretsch solos and instrumentals then playback thru Bose 901 or 501 speakers. It is best to use LPs until Eddie's repertoire is transferred to sacd or dvd. The Stones re-issues on SACDs sound much better. When the Beatles appear on DVD/SACD someday I won't have to keep wearing out my LPs. This book has a lot of info on Eddie. For first time buyers I would recommend the May 3, 2005 double-CD Best of Eddie Cochran by Eddie Cochran; or the Eddie Cochran 4 CD box set on Liberty EMI UK which has more instrumentals. Also check out The Very Best Of Chet Atkins 2CD set, 30 of the 40 songs are instrumentals and Chet is pictured with a Gretsch 6120 on the cover.
Three Steps to Heaven - The Eddie Cochran Story.......2006-07-08
If you are fan of classic Rock and Roll, killer Rockabilly and a part of American history that most of the history books left out, then BUY THIS BOOK! Eddie Cochran was an American Rock and Roll pioneer, brilliant guitarist, songwriter, singer, and experimenter of sounds who used the studio as another instrument much like Les Paul did. He was way ahead of his time and was cut down way before his time at the ripe old age of 21 on April 17th, 1960. I have been a diehard Eddie Cochran fan since I first discovered his music in 1977 and since then there was no looking back. This book, co written by Eddie's Nephew Bobby, a great musician and producer in his own right, is more like two books in one, Eddie's story and Bobby's as well which has some striking parallels to his legendary Uncle. The Eddie part of the book adds a human being to the legend who influenced the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Winter, the Sex Pistols and countless others who later made a serious mark in the world of music. I'm usually a slow reader but I couldn't put this book down and finished it in 2 days. Eddie Cochran would've fit perfectly into the 1960s, 70s, 80s and beyond but unfortunately fate didn't have that in store for him. I could easily see Eddie writing, jamming and performing with the likes of Eric Clapton (and showing him a thing or two!), Jeff Beck, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and many others. In fact John Lennon and George Harrison were among the many British kids who flocked to his shows on that ill fated British tour and were influenced heavily by the good looking kid from the U.S. and his Gretch guitar. The only regret I have is that this book wasn't 10,000 pages long because I didn't want it to end! Buy this book! It will bring you a lot of reading pleasure and you'll want to read it again and again, much like a classic movie you love. Speaking of movies I'm still waiting for a good Eddie Cochran flick to come out and there isn't a better book to base a movie on than this one. BUY THIS BOOK!!! You'll be glad you did! - Steven Pearl
EDDIE LIVES!!!.......2004-08-26
This book was an absolute pleasure to read and I couldn't put
it down. As well as valuable insight into the life of Eddie
Cochran, it was interesting to read about Bobby's life and how
Eddie was such an inspiration to him and his guitar playing.
It's one of those rare books that you find and treasure....each
time I read it I feel like I knew them personally. To anyone
interested in Eddie, rockabilly, or some awesome Gretsch guitar
playing, READ THIS NOW!!! What are you waiting for???? This book
is SOMETHING ELSE!!
BREE WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON-GOD BLESS HER........2004-01-05
THIS BOOK IS EXCELLENT BUT I WAS REALLY TOUCHED BY THE CHAPTER DEALING WITH THE TRAGIC DEATH OF BOBBY'S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER BREE.THE WAY HE SPOKE ABOUT HER IT IS VERY EVIDENT THAT HE REALLY LOVED THIS BEAUTIFUL GIRL.I WAS HAPPY TO HEAR THAT HE THOUGHT THAT BREE WAS ALL RIGHT IN HEAVEN AND SHE WOULD ONLY WANT JOY AND HAPPINESS FOR ALL.WITH THIS IN MIND I BELIEVE THAT BOBBY'S HEALING PROCESS WILL BE A BIT EASIER.GOD BLESS BREE AND MAY SHE ALWAYS EXPERIENCE ETERNAL HAPPINESS WITH THE DEAR LORD IN HEAVEN.
Recommended.......2003-08-28
Received a copy of 'Three Steps to Heaven' this morning and have finished it already! It's been a long time since I read a book in a day. I've come away feeling like I actually know Eddie and Bobby, his nephew.
I've also learnt some stuff: I always thought Ned Fairchild was a pseudonym for Eddie on 'Twenty Flight Rock,' thought Bo Davis was actually Hank Cochran. Good to see Sharon Sheeley get a fair hearing as well, she usually gets dismissed by lesser people. And the implications that Eddie has offspring!
Those last two chapters - how I didn't cry I'll never know. I remember reading the sad news about Bobby's daughter Bree - killed in the same way, on the same day, at the same age as Eddie - in that year's Chippenham programme and it made me go cold for days. The coincidences/comparisons are frightening.
If it wasn't for Eddie and his music I'd never have picked up a guitar. To have that much influence when he was only with us for 21 years....I'm not very articulate but I hope I've come across ok.
