Book Description
In 1936, French publisher Christian Zervos released a collection of drawings by Henri Matisse as part of his Cahiers d'Art series. Along with 39 stunning Matisse drawings, the book included a preface by Zervos and a poem by Tristan Tzara dedicated to the artist. The drawings, mostly of womennudes, portraits, interior scenesexpress an extraordinary sensuality.
This reprint, a facsimile edition faithful to the original, features translations by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and scholar Richard Howard. The beauty of Matisse's simple drawings, as powerful today as in 1936, remains accessible to art lovers and a general audience alike. 39 full-page facsimile reproductions.

Not Just Cartoons, But Literature.......1998-10-14
Much like the content of her "ernie pook's comeek", Lynda Barry's "My Perfect Life" is more than just a cartoon, it is literature. The book sucks you into the lives of its complex and appealing characters until you are experiencing and caring about what happens to them. Sometimes hilarious and sometimes sad, this is a wonderful book.
Lynda Barry is Funk Queen of the Galaxy.......1998-08-13
Thank you, Lynda, for sharing your talent and emotion with us. This book let me know I was not insane when I felt like crap and let me (no MADE me) cry about it. I also shared Maybonne's recovery and continued confusion and frustration with the jerks of the world. Read this book and everything else Lynda Barry does!
This book saved my mind in junior high.......1997-08-07
Lynda Barry comics are the best. That's it. This whole book (and also Come Over, Come Over) blew my mind when I read them and made me really happy that someone could make the horible crap I was feeling seem actually funny, sometimes in a kind of sick way, but I read the books over and over and they never failed to please
Lynda saw what you did..........1997-05-13
You will think that Lynda has been reading your diary, when you were sure you had the key in your locket. You will see that she understands your every whim because she has been through childhood as her reincarnated self so many times that she can see the inside of your skin and learned how to draw all the veins, the fascinating glorious horror of them, of popping pimples and peeling glue from your palms, falling in like and off your bike, she will make you shudder as earwax, scabs, and floating fish, with the same feeling as the urge you get to colour everything around you in, even in your office pants. In this way reading her work is like being becoming absorbed in a page of someone's first scribbles. You will know that Lynda has been reading your diary, and then you might actually smile, at how she deserves access to it becuase you just have to admit that she can make more out of it than you can

MICKEY MOUSE IS STILL ON TOP.......2004-03-05
Everybody's favorite cartoon character leads the parade of animated characters who charm children.
Just as the mystique of Mickey Mouse spans generations and cultures, Mickey Mouse: My Life In Pictures compiled by Russell Schroeder bridges the 70 years of Mickey's fame. With over 200 illustrations plus original animation drawings it's a collector's item for Mouseketeers of all ages.
Great!.......2002-02-01
This was a great book. It told Mickey's life in Mickey style. The pictures in this book were awesome! I would recommend this book for kids ages five to ten.
This book is an okay book.......1998-10-14
This book is OK. In this book Mickey Mouse tells his story from his first cartoon to his last cartoon. I do think this book would be a good answer to people that want to know more about Mickey Mouse.

Book Description
In his own words, Bret Hart’s honest, perceptive, startling account of his life in and out of the pro wrestling ring.
The sixth-born son of the pro wrestling dynasty founded by Stu Hart and his elegant wife, Helen, Bret Hart is a Canadian icon. As a teenager, he could have been an amateur wrestling Olympic contender, but instead he turned to the family business, climbing into the ring for his dad’s western circuit, Stampede Wrestling. From his early twenties until he retired at 43, Hart kept an audio diary, recording stories of the wrestling life, the relentless travel, the practical jokes, the sex and drugs, and the real rivalries (as opposed to the staged ones). The result is an intimate, no-holds-barred account that will keep readers, not just wrestling fans, riveted.
Hart achieved superstardom in pink tights, and won multiple wrestling belts in multiple territories, for both the WWF (now the WWE) and WCW. But he also paid the price in betrayals (most famously by Vince McMahon, a man he had served loyally); in tragic deaths, including the loss of his brother Owen, who died when a stunt went terribly wrong; and in his own massive stroke, most likely resulting from a concussion he received in the ring, and from which, with the spirit of a true champion, he has battled back.
Widely considered by his peers as one of the business’s best technicians and workers, Hart describes pro wrestling as part dancing, part acting, and part dangerous physical pursuit. He is proud that in all his years in the ring he never seriously hurt a single wrestler, yet did his utmost to deliver to his fans an experience as credible as it was exciting. He also records the incredible toll the business takes on its workhorses: he estimates that twenty or more of the wrestlers he was regularly matched with have died young, weakened by their own coping mechanisms, namely drugs, alcohol, and steroids. That toll included his own brother-in-law, Davey Boy Smith. No one has ever written about wrestling like Bret Hart. No one has ever lived a life like Bret Hart’s.
For as long as I can remember, my world was filled with liars and bullshitters, losers and pretenders, but I also saw the good side of pro wrestling. To me there is something bordering on beautiful about a brotherhood of big tough men who pretended to hurt one another for a living instead of actually doing it. Any idiot can hurt someone.

I think there's a recurring theme in here somewhere............2000-05-08
Who hasn't, at one time or another, wished that homework vanished and all we had to do was shop, eat and sleep? This is yet another Greg Evans book that takes a look at the troubles of teen life. Luann has typical teen troubles: she's in love with Aaron Hill, he doesn't know she exists, Tiffany (her arch nemesis who thinks herself the "Beauty Queen" seems to have more success and to top it all off, teachers STILL have the nerve to assign homework! Sure, these troubles may seem less than marginal and the world won't stop turning because of them, but then again we aren't all living in a teenage world. It's great when we can see that in this, a look into the '80s teen life, things haven't changed much (except for the drug, sex, and drop-out problems) but then again they aren't exactly the same. If you enjoy Greg Evans' books now, you'll certainly like this classic "Luann" book.

Digital Filmmaking 101 reveals the secrets of making professional-quality ditial moviemaking on ultra-low budgets.
Customer Reviews:
Digital Filmmaking 101.......2007-06-01
Has lots of information and tips on "how-to-" do many things. But I wouldn't try to make a movie of it. It just didn't hit me.
Where is the digital?.......2007-04-05
I bought this book thinking it would help in a film project utilizing a good camera and a few volunteers. Unfortunately it does not even have much to say about the possibilities of digital filmmaking, but rather gives a disorganized (how about some editing?) depiction of their experience in making two films. I am not sure they even used the digital format.... The true focus is how to produce a film with little budget, and little experience. Not a bad topic, but not what I was expecting from the title. Three stars for the appendix, the chapter on working with the crew, and budget.
Excellent book.......2007-03-09
A well written, humorous book, includes lots of helpful hints, and several templates that help with the production process.
Informed, clear, cogent information and advice.......2007-01-12
This is the most informative, clearly written, cogent source of information on this subject I have read. Although you need rudimentary knowledge to practice what the authors preach, they provide intermediary and advanced tips and strategies that more than make this book worth the price of admission. Don't miss it!

Great read. Recommended 4 anyone starting out........2006-12-14
Easy to follow, and worth every cent paid for it.
Book Description
Aficionados of music, dance, opera, and musical theater will relish this volume featuring over 200 articles showcasing composers, singers, musicians, dancers, and choreographers across eras and styles.
Read about Hildegard of Bingen, whose Symphonia expressed both spiritual and physical desire for the Virgin Mary, and George Frideric Handel, who not only created roles for castrati but was behind the Venetian opera's preoccupations with gender ambiguity. Discover Alban Berg’s Lulu, opera’s first openly lesbian character. And don’t forget Kiss Me Kate, the hit 1948 Broadway musical: written by Cole Porter, married though openly gay; directed by John C. Wilson, Noël Coward's ex-lover; and featuring Harold Lang, who had affairs with Leonard Bernstein and Gore Vidal.
No single volume has ever achieved the breadth of this scholarly yet eminently readable compendium. It includes overviews of genres as well as fascinating biographical entries on hundreds of figures such as Peter Tchaikovsky, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Diaghilev, Bessie Smith, Aaron Copland, Stephen Sondheim, Alvin Ailey, Rufus Wainwright, and Ani DiFranco.

Book Description
Crammed full of contemporary comedy examples and house-hold names, from the music hall tradition to contemporary sitcoms, Andy Medhurst considers how English comedy reflects national concerns with class, race, gender and sexuality and traces the recurrence of themes and structures.
Examining popular English comedies and comedians in the twentieth century, ranging from the Carry On films to the work of Mike Leigh and contemporary sitcoms such as
The Royle Family, and from George Formby to Alan Bennett and Roy 'Chubby' Brown, the book argues that comedy plays a pivotal role in the construction of cultural identity.
Medhurst presents case studies of comic traditions and representations, and examines key figures in English comic history, including Mike Leigh, Alan Bennett and Victoria Wood.
Part history and part polemic,
A National Joke is a book that will not only entertain, it will enlighten and inform any student, scholar, or general reader of our national comedy.
