"This is my country." Mariana Yampolsky knew it the moment she opened her window and saw a bougainvillea blooming against a white wall on her first morning in Mexico City in 1944. Her empathy for the Mexican people and their land has guided her work for more than fifty years, finding expression in books of dramatic black-and-white photographs ranging from her early La casa en la tierra and La casa que canta to The Traditional Architecture of Mexico.

The Edge of Time presents a retrospective of Yampolsky's photographic work since 1960. Reflecting her lifelong concerns, the images capture rural Mexico and its people with respect and infinite care. They function as works of art and as documents of a moment in Mexico's history when lifeways that have endured for centuries face the onslaught of modernization.

Elena Poniatowska has been Yampolsky's friend for many years and, in the foreword, she describes Yampolsky's method of working and includes many quotes from the photographer herself. Sandra Berler provides an overview of Yampolsky's life and the range of her work. Francisco Reyes Palma concludes the text with an exploration of Yampolsky's photographic aesthetic.

Garfield and Odie live with Jon Arbuckle, and frustrate him sometimes. They also frustrate a neighbour living next door. Because of this, the neighbours call the pound, and Odie is taken away. Garfield decides to rescue him. Without Odie, who will keep him company?

1982's "Here Comes Garfield" is a colour comic based on the TV special of the same name. Some funny moments here, but not my favorite. 3.5 Stars.

A Garfield classic.......2004-03-27

To say that I am a fan of Garfield the cat would be putting it mildly. Although I am more of a dog person (since I grew up with dogs), I have to say that in terms of comic relief cats are funnier, Garfield the cat in particular. I have loved Garfield since I started reading his comics back in the early '80s. His constant putdowns and insults are a neverending source of laughter for me. It was inevitable that Garfield would make the move from newspapers to television. His first special was "Here Comes Garfield". I still have my copy of the book. Like the early Garfield animation, the drawings in "Here Comes Garfield" is a bit crude but a lot better than what he looked like in the late '70s. The story revolves around Garfield trying to rescue Odie from the city pound after a neighbor calls the pound on the mischievous pair for terrorizing his small terrier. The story is both funny and poignant. I'm almost thirty and I am still a big fan of the fat, orange tabby cat who is the size of an aircraft carrier.

I really liked the vhs movie. If it is still available buy it! I believe the book and video go together. Read the book, watch the video. A good way to teach reading.

Touching Garfield!.......1999-06-17

This movie/book was very very sad. I read the book in school. When I rented the movie I got teary-eyed. Garfield thinks back on his relationship with Odie and all the mean things he did to him. Read the book it heartwarming, touching, and sad. Be sure to have a tissue handy. The movie is more sad then the book. But they are both good.

This guide to the available literature on sports in American culture during the last two decades of the 20th century is a companion to Jack Higg's Sports: A Reference Guide (Greenwood, 1982). Joss Whedon's original scripts for both parts of "Becoming".......2003-11-01

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Script Book, Season Two, Volume 4" finally provides in print Joss Whedon's scripts for the two part of "Becoming." It was the second season of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" that established the show as being operatic television, in which case "Becoming" is the grand aria in which Whedon hits the highest note on the scale. "Becoming, Part 2," in which Buffy has to kill Angel and send him to a demon dimension to save the world, is still one of the ten best television episodes I have ever seen in my life. Having a copy of the script in my hands puts the final touches on my enjoyment of these episodes, not because it is a question of finding differences between what is in the final shooting script and what got aired on television, but simply because I finally get to see Whedon's stage directions. For example, after Joyce has learned Buffy is a vampire slayer there is a scene in Buffy's living room. There is no dialogue, just the shot, which is described as follows: Joyce sits in the living room with Spike. They both are silent and uncomfortable, like it's Sunday and he's come a 'courtin'. Joyce has a glass of bourbon in her hands, which shakes only slightly.

For such small gems of insight into the mind of Joss Whedon picking up this collection of scripts is going to be worthwhile for "BtVS" fans. Completing the Angelus story arc that covered the second half of Season Two begun in Volume 3, you will find in Volume 4 "Killed by Death," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Go Fish," "Becoming, Part One," and "Becoming, Part Two." Actually, I enjoyed "Go Fish" a lot more being able to read the inside jokes, production notes, and cut dialogue than I did actually watching that rather [weak] episode. Overall I think it was a good move to have divide the scripts for Season Two this way, so that the first two volumes do the Spike-Dru story arc and the last two the Angelus story arc. I was going to point out that all six of the episodes for the "BtVS" Season Two video tape set are from this latter arc, but now that we are in the world of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on DVD this is no longer a concern.
