Though the author is clearly well informed about tax strategies, this book doesn't sufficiently address the needs of fine artists. The book seems to make the assumption that careers in the fine arts are straightforward. The book includes sections for specific disciplines, but those are not very in-depth. I did not get much more information from this book than I got from a general tax guide.

I like the broad range of styles included in the book. It is wonderful that R.H. opted to write about work by artists who may not be as world reknowned as many whose work is pushed in commercial Santa Fe galleries. I didn't agree with some of his interpretations of the works, but hope readers will be able to look at the photos and come to their own conclusions.

I gave this one star without even trying a recipe. While this book has a good variety of recipes which are "low carb", if you are following South Beach, don't buy it! It uses lots of butter, cream and fatty meats! I will be returning my copy.

Good, not great.......2007-06-12

I found about 10 or 15 recipes that I would actually use, and have tried a few and they were very good. Maybe that is par for the course with cookbooks , and considering the reasonable cost I'm not complaining. I'm happy to find some interesting, low carb recipes, for a slow cooker.

I don't usually write reviews, but had to speak out about this book. I I really enjoy using my slow cooker (and use it a lot) and was very excited to try the recipes in this book. I made 3 recipes from this book, the kashmir lamb, the chicken in coconut milk and Hot Asian Pork Ribs. Not one of the recipes turned out well enough to say I would make them again. The taste just wasn't there in these recipes. The descriptions on how good they were was way off in my opinion. Word of warning on the lamp shanks, they smell awful when cooking on low which I was not aware of. We ended up throwing the whole dinner out because of the smell alone.

Good Cookbook for your recipe collection!.......2007-01-20

This large cookbook has color photos with some of the recipes. It starts with an introduction that explains basic slower cooker tips (timing, flavor, altitude adjustments, basics, etc.) It has 5 categories:

1. Meaty Main Dishes

2. Busy-Day Chicken and Turkey

3. Super Soups, Stews and Chiles

4. Slow-Cooked Sandwiches

5. Very Easy Vegetables and Sides

Plus it has an index in the back of the book that is helpful.

Some interesting recipes such as "Key West Ribs" that has a citrus flavor and "Thai Peanut Chicken" for something new. There are also favorites like "Bratwurst and Sauerkraut" and "Family Favorite Beef Stew." This cookbook is well worth buying because of the wide variety of recipes.

If you know how to make a sandwich you don't need this book. The recipes were boring to me and seemed like better items for a quick lunch than a decent dinner.

This book makes a case for "watering down" music education. All students have the ability to learn. No student should determine what is taught in a music class anymore than in a Math or Science class. If you are interested in how to teach to the average, buy this book. Those who put down contest or festival ratings are usually ineffective teachers unable to reach that level of musicianship. If you would like to help students reach their potential in music expression and performance, find another, more practical book instead of this self-indulgent garbage. I agree with the reviewer below - if you voted for George Bush, you probably believe people are able to do more for themselves than if you are a liberal Democrat. Pass up this socialist garbage!

Valuable Reading for Music Educators.......2005-12-03

I disagree vehemently with the above review. I will grant that the book gets preachy at times. I will also refer potential readers and reviewers to the title of the book in forming their expectations. The book is about music education in the bigger picture, and the role played by music educators and students. At times it gets incendiary. That's a good thing. It's supposed to. It wants you to get beyond getting a "1" at festival into what else you have or should have to offer as a music teacher. I also have the advantage of having met Paul in a small informal setting and hearing him explain his views. If you want hard core philosophy go for Reimer, Jorgensen and that crew. Just looking at the title willl give you proper expectations. Finally, if you voted for George Bush, don't bother with this.

Pedantic and unhelpful.......2005-08-04

I had to read this book for a graduate music education course. When it was assigned, I looked forward to reading it because, up to now, I have found Canadian scholars of music education (e.g., Bowman, Elliott, Stubley, Lamb) to be exceptionally fine thinkers with excellent, cutting-edge ideas. I expected the same from Woodford, another Canadian. Unforunately, I was very disappointed. Woodford is not in the same league as his Northern colleagues. The content of his book (it's just a booklet, actually) will be unhelpful and uninspiring to any music educator interested in learning more about music, or music education, or engaging his/her students in the joys of music making. Woodford's book is about turning music teachers and music education into political-social tools. This is not a new idea, and it has potential, but Woodford does not have the writing and thinking abilities needed to justify his spin on this topic. In a nutshell: this book is an unconvincing and pedantic plod.

Not that easy to read, not a how-to, but still a great book.......2007-01-13

I have to counter the statement in another review that this book is "easy to read." Yes, it is, if you know what "latent semiotic unruliness" means. It is also not a how-to book. I would not recommend buying this book unless you are interested in how eBay has affected our culture. Having said this, I agreed that it is a great book, but not for the same reasons as the other reviewer states. It's about time academia studied eBay, because as a life-time scavenger of flea markets and antique shops, I have noticed a dramatic change in what I'm seeing in these places in response to eBay's existence (and perhaps also Antique Roadshow's). The papers range from being so academic that I struggled with the text, to pure pleasure reading. I particularly enjoyed reading William Gibson's personal account of trading on eBay, and one about Black Friday. There are a lot of anecdotes about remarkable auctions that are fun to read, but they are scattered throughout the papers. Still, I'm very happy to have found this book.

Great Book - Smart AND Useful.......2006-09-25

This is a really great book. When I first read through it I was a bit surprised as I'd assumed it was a straightforward "how to" book about buying and selling on eBay. Actually it's a collection of easy to read articles that look at the ways various groups of collectors, sellers and other folks use ebay and how it relates to their lives on a daily basis. There are 19 short pieces and as I read through them I realized the book is actually full of stories and ideas on how to improve my sales and how to be more savvy as a buyer. So even though it's not mainly a "how to" book, for my money it's actually the best "how to" book on eBay there is. Highly recommended and easy to read.

Corrie Fans Must get this book.......2001-01-19

Anyone who is a fan of the British soap opera Coronation Street must get this book. It includes a complete history of the show from the premier up to the shows in 2000. I have only gotten to see the show sparingly due to it not being broadcast in the states but it is a must have for any corrie fan
