Customer Reviews:
Emily is beautiful.......2006-08-22
I love Emily the Strange. A lot of people would call her Goth, but she isn't about that. Sure, she might fit, but she isn't about fitting in with a trend or group. Emily is Emily. She scares away scary things by making them her friends. The scary friends also serve to keep sheep-people (who are often scarier) at a safe distance.
The illustrations are beautiful. The few words are often cliches slightly turned. Emily the Strange is clever and lovely.
There is no award for being the weirdest, most morbid, or most violent. Emily wouldn't win those competitions, or enter them. Enjoy Emily or don't. No one cares whether or not you like Emily. No one cares whether or not I like Emily. Least of all, Emily.
This is one librarian's opinion of Emily the Strange. I hope it helps you decide whether or not to buy the book. Anyway, reviews stoke my vanity. If you aren't ready to buy, you could borrow it from your library and form your own opinion first.
i love everything Emily The Strange!.......2005-08-24
Hey there, my name is Emily, that's not why I love Emily The Strange. I am also 12 years old, but 2 years ago, thanks to someone special, I got into Emily stuff. My friend Ashley, well, her big sister showed me some of her Emily stuff, I really liked Emily then, she told me to look out for some Emily the Strange stuff and that it's probably right up my alley. And she's right, 2 years later, I'm an Emily the strange freak! I collect all the cards, I 've got tons of stuff, actually, I think that's all the stuff I have, Emily the Strange stuff. Maybe a few hello kitty stuff, but nothing else. I went onto hot topic, and spent some of my birthday money on Emily the Strange stuff, I have a really nice bed spread and pillow cases that match. Anyway, about the book, I love every single thing about it. It really inspires me. I like the way Emily can speak cat, I like the plan with the cats to attack the dog, I'm an animal lover, and I would never hurt one, I wouldn't hurt someone either. I like the way in one of the pages it says hell-o-kitty, you have to see that. I have 2 cats, who are very friendly, I have my own posse. This book is a must have, I do recommend the Emily's good nightmares book, I only have 2 of Emily's books, I'm looking out for the other one. I know Emily's morose code all by heart, so does my friend Ashley, we do all sorts of letters to each other with the morose code, that way, no one knows what it says but us!But this book is really cool, I like that it has such big, and discriptive pictures, but with such little words, I like that it's simple. A good item for a strange collection, like mine!
Now, get strange, or get lost!
Emily the strange, the stranger!
Long live Emily!.......2004-03-26
Emily is an intelligent little black and white child who started out as a small internet idea but spawned into a large merchandise line and nows the chance to see for yourself why this little goth girl is so popular. With wit, sarcasm, insight, and her four dangerous cats, Emily will show you the dark side of life that has already been favored by many of us. I love the awesome cover, the illustrations and each page in the book has many secret codes and messages for you to find. I've had this book for months and theres still things i find myself noticing for the very first time! Rock on Emily!
read this then go away!.......2004-01-31
It's essential for any chick who is drawn to the darker things in life to own at least one Emily item but once you enter her bizarre world it's hard to go back. I received both "Emily's Book Of Strange" along with the 2004 calendar for my birthday and those were a perfect introduction to this quiet (but nowhere near shy) cat-luvin' Goth grrl who's preferred favorite color is everything black...or red. Her attitude is anything but cheery but sometimes us open-minded people have to shield ourselves from the ones that are afraid to venture outside the box and to explore what's beyond the edges. I could be wrong but I believe her image is a symbol of encouraging individuality. Or, in other words, to think for yourself without following the crowd by listening and dressing according to what's considered "normal".
There's not a lot of text within these pages (there's often a bare minimum of two words) but the illustrations by Rob Reger and Buzz Parker are creatively "strange" and pure (or is that tainted?) candy for the eyes.
I especially enjoy perusing this on cold, rainy days.
emily the strange is amazing!.......2003-10-24
I really like the Emily's Secret Book of Strange because it has really cool pictures. Although, it doesn't really have that many words in it either but the pictures are amazing and fun to look at. the secret messeges that are on the pages are really cool, but you have to look closely to see them. If you like to look at a lot of pictures, Emily's Book of the strange has a lot of them.

Some background on Eleanor Templeman.......2006-07-12
This book was written by my grandmother. She was passionate about our family history and Virginia roots, as well as a great traveller. I hope that those who read this book will understand and share her passion for the subject. Of course, I am biased in my rating of this book, but I know that she was meticulous about getting all of her information as correct as possible while sharing the history of the state that she so dearly loved.

Book Description
The city of Fredericksburg, situated on the Rappahannock River, was established in 1728 and was named for Prince Frederick of England. Today it is home to the University of Mary Washington, where civil rights leader James L. Farmer Jr. was a faculty member and Claudia Emerson, 2006 Pulitzer Prize winner for poetry, continues to be on the faculty. Though very much a modern urban city, Fredericksburg still has a historic downtown district and surrounding military parks that remind locals and visitors alike of its humble beginnings as a Colonial port town more than a century before it was ravaged during the Civil War.

Eternally spotless.......2005-06-27
"Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!/Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd... Desires compos'd, affections ever ev'n,/Tears that delight, and sighs that waft to Heav'n." The original Alexander Pope poem suits the movie whose title it inspired, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," a unique, surreal film about memories, love and sorrow.
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" deals with timid, conservative Joel, who bumps into ex-girlfriend Clementine at a store -- and finds she doesn't remember him. He finds a notice in his mail that she has had him erased from her memories, and angrily decides to have the same done. But during the procedure, Joel revisits the good times they had together, and finds that he doesn't want to lose his memories with Clementine.
This movie, by Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman, was one of the best of 2004, and one that isn't quickly forgotten. The screenplay is an excellent accompaniment; if there is a line or an image that didn't seem to make sense, it might make more sense here. "Eternal Sunshine" fans will also like the scenes that never made it to the final cut, and one scene got shuffled around.
Additionally, there is an interview at the end with Kaufman. In it, he describes his writing background, his collaborations with Gondry, clashes with Ben Affleck's horrific "Paycheck," memory, and that wonderful "Velveteen Rabbit" scene. Although, it could have used more of Kaufman's thoughts on the final product and the actors.
The stumbling blocks? Don't try reading the screenplay BEFORE seeing the movie, or you will be hopelessly lost. The script cuts wildly from the past, the present, inside and outside the characters' heads. It works wonderfully on the screen, but on paper it's hard to visualize just by the words alone. That, and this richly visual film is only represented by some murky black-and-white photos.
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is a wonderful script, which spawned a wonderful film. And for fans of that film, this is an excellent accompaniment and resource.
This is a truly beautiful movie..........2005-05-27
This is a truly beautiful movie. I seriously think it is one of Jim Carey's best films. The cinematography is provocative and intelligent. The acting is flawless. And the plot is a well devised mesh of fantastical conception and blatant realism mixed with subtle humor. It should have one an award. It was certaintly better than Million Dollar Baby.
Thought provoking and truly original.......2005-01-19
This was a movie I didn't expect to like. I hadn't heard that much about it and wasn't all that enthusiastic about seeing another Jim Carey movie. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised.
First of all, this movie is truly original. That's rare these days. It revolves around the premise that you can erase someone from your memories. In this case, the "someone" to be erased is Kate Winslet's character of Clementine. She is wacky and artsy, and plays against Carey's straightlaced character Joel perfectly. I had just seen an interview with Winslet before this movie and was amazed at her accurate American accent. Very well done.
And Carey is brilliant. His toned down, not over the top portrayal of Joel was delightful and wonderful. This is the first time I actually thought of Carey as a very good actor. Both Carey and Winslet deserve an Oscar for this film.
In addition, the film is beautifully shot as well. This could have been a very goofy movie, with a premise that was hard to actually get into and believe, but this film worked perfectly on all accounts: writing, cinematography, acting. I would recommend this film to anyone that wants to see a thoroughly enjoyable, funny, sweet, interesting, wonderful film that is unlike any you've seen before.

memories are to be remembered.......2004-12-11
this is a brilliant affecting screenplay..like much of kaufman's work it combines inventivness and originality with the creation of well drawn poignant complex characters trying to make sense of and live as best they can in this world we live in. amidst all the craziness and surreal aspects of his work there's a real humanism that shines through...i once read in an interview charlie did that he consider's himself primarily a book person not a film person..i loved that...the world needs more screenwriters who look at themselves as primarily book people particularly when they can team up with such visual artists as michel gondry or spike jonz..no wonder these collaboratons produce such great films..these artists perfectley complement each other..nonetheless this screenplay stands on it's own as a work of art..
Provides the reader with a 165-page shooting script in book.......2004-05-03

Enhanced with a Q&A with Kaufman, black/white movie stills with commentary, and complete cast and crew credits, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind will also prove of great interest to the legions of Jim Carrey fans who enjoyed his performance as Joel, a young man who wants to have the painful memories of his girlfriend Clementine (played by Kate Winslet) erased from his mind.

An amazing Screenwriter with gifts unimaginable........2006-12-22
If you have ever seen any Charlie Kaufman films, you have learned to either love him right away or hate him. I love him. My particular favorite is "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". Filled with a powerful meaning and incredible storylines (main and side), this is sure to have you page turning all the way to the end without stopping.
Someone who is in my opinion, a step above Hollywood, and a true pleasure for all of us to read.

Adorable and indispensible.......2006-12-29
This yummy, lovely little book was given to me by a friend. It led me to the author's other book, Surviving Saturn's Return (rocked my world in the very best way, read my review on their other page). Anyway, I'm a huge fan, and this sweet, pretty book is great for single girls in need of some tricks and tools to ease the pain of dating, which, we all have to admit, is not always as fun as it's cracked up to be. I'm still out there, and whenever I'm about to go out on a date that I'm either dreading or completely psyched about, I pull out Fate of Your Date and prep myself. The astrology section describes what to expect on your date depending on his sign, and the face reading chapter is totally cool and revealing. You'll be analyzing the night away. Especially helpful on boring dates -- makes the guy more interesting. Believe me, I know from experience.
a must read!.......2006-04-17
this book rocked my world!! the best dating tools on the market. these ladies crack me up! i bought a copy for each of my girls!
if you're in the land of dating hell--grab this book and hold on tight!
i had a private reading with these authors and they freaked me out--they were so right on! are they psychic?
Divine!!!! .......2006-04-16
My best girlfriend bought me a copy of this book because I'm freshly back on the dating scene (just broke up with a guy I was with for two years.) It's actually very useful! The astrology section is right on, and the face reading chapter came in handy last night when I went on a blind date with a sort of sketchy guy. I read that the authors are the astrologers for Elle magazine -- they know their stuff. This book is fun, beautifully illustrated, and a great gift for any single girl on the make.

Book Description
Channel 4 had been a matter of controversy for years even before it came on the air in November 1982. There were lengthy debates about what its role would be and the part to be played by the ITV companies and the growing number of independent television producers. There was also political controversy over the profile of the new channel, some wishing to see it as "their" channel in response to the apparent political hegemony of Margaret Thatcher. The result was sharp conflicts, not only over programming but, as the channel became established, over its relationships with the ITV companies and its regulatory body, the IBA.
These controversies in the making of Channel 4 are revisited in this volume. The opening article by Edmund Dell, the channel's first chairman, describes and explains his sometimes stormy relationship with Jeremy Isaacs, the chief executive, while the witness seminar and the other articles offer the views of Channel 4 commissioning editors and representatives from the IBA, the ITV companies, the independent producers, the Home Office and the BBC.
