Book Description
The work of artist Osamu Tezuka has been as influential in Japan as that of Walt Disney in the US. His most famous character, Astro Boy, guides the reader through this book on the fundamentals of animation. The focus is on mastering movement, timing, and expression-the keys to bringing anime characters to life. This book is filled with step-by-step instructions on how to depict weight, walking speed, dynamic action, and effects like fire and water. The concepts are all taken from Tezuka's works and have his particular stylistic mark. Become a master by mastering the basics!

No good.......2007-02-21
I have seen better amination books I would not recomend this book for a animation class.
The only animation book from wer you can really learn........2007-01-12
Illusion of life Disney Animation( that I rate it -0 with 0 stars), and some other animation books. But the Tezuka school of animation books are the best ones, you can see all the details of the animation making, the walking with all the steps and in all angles, the jumps, the talk, and everything to be a great animator in no time. I definetly recommend this book over all other books, this is a must have. Don't commit the mistakes of buy others books that are not from Tezuka learning school. See the previews and find more info if you want. Just respect yourself and your money, buy this one.
Astro Boy's a cute 'lil guide... .......2007-01-10
Anime fans doing animation courses can get it a little tough here in the UK. The style just isn't popular enough and as much as I admire walt disney, it's a shame he stereotyped the genre as a kids-only zone. Interesting I should say that, as Tezuka is often hailed as the Japanese walk Disney (up there with such greats as Mamoru Osamu and Hayao Miyazaki.)
Even for non anime fans, the walk cycles remain basically the same and this was a simple and understandable guide that gave you all the basics nessecary for various cycles, whether you use anime as a style or not. I mean, heck, I just made an entire SKIP CYCLE! SKIPPING!
Not a great deal of information, but ideal for anyone just starting out with basic walk cycles and animation terchniques. Not a bad job, though it could've had a little more info. The book is probably better suited for younger people with an interest in the genre but hey, this nineteen year old ain't complaining.
Better than the How to Draw Manga Making Anime Book.......2006-10-26
This book actually teaches you how to animate the anime way. The how to draw manga is nothing more than a showcase book for fans rather than teaching you how to animate. I recommend this book instead of that one all the way.
One of the most useful animation books.......2006-03-01
This book is one of the most useful tools for the animator I have purchased. It is very complete, covering from simple animation techniques to complex movements and effects. It lacks the part about equipment and tools, but is a great reference for animating. American readers may find strange the order some sequences are to be seen and the way the authors name the principles of animation, but if you skip these difficulties, you have one of the two mos useful books to become an animator (the other is Preston Blair's).
Book Description
Even beginning artists can master animation and enjoy the thrill of seeing their drawings spring to life! And every step in the process outlined and illustrated—from creating compelling characters to setting up a convincing scene—can be done at home or in the smallest studio. Discover all the basics that go into making an animated film: how to build expressive bodies; develop a storyboard and plot; compose a background; stage and frame; establish timing; and produce special effects like smoke and flames. You’ll even see how to draw multiples that fool the eye into thinking limbs are moving, blur frames for a fast action shot, and distort perspective.
Customer Reviews:
Great stuff for animators........2007-08-28
This book is great for beginners as well as those who have been in the game awhile. The illustrations are straight forward and easy to understand as is the text. While a great deal of the book has to do with hand drawn then scanned work - old traditional animation - animation is animation and this has got a lot of great foundation info between its covers. I would recommend this book for those who truly want to understand the principals and techniques of animation.

Book Description
This pioneering work offers a theoretical perspective on two new variables that shape presidential voting behavior in America. It does this through an exploration of the impact that native son presidential candidate Jimmy Carter had upon his home state electorate in Georgia. The work fully documents the electoral support that Carter received in his twelve elections in the state of Georgia and the support he garnered for his former vice president in the 1984 presidential election. This is the first longitudinal study to examine the impact of native son candidates on voting behavior. It concludes that native son presidential candidates do affect voting behavior in their states and that this effect sometimes extends such behavior throughout their region. This study and its conclusions will be of interest to scholars and historians in political science and presidential studies.

Book Description
This debut novel by William Buddy Carter chronicles a son's search across the South for his terminally ill father.
Customer Reviews:
cdkirshner.......2002-06-06
Don't overlook this rather obscure work! Written by Former President Jimmy Carter's nephew-- the son of his brother Billy, this book is quite a find! This story is of one of the most dysfunctional Southern families since Conroy's Prince of Tides. The big difference is that this family never made it to the "big city" long enough to get lost in its anonymity.
Savin' Sam is a former used car salesman who now travels around South Georgia with a bus full of terminally ill men and women who are spending their last days "witnessing" at revivals in an attempt to pass on bits of wisdom acquired during their life. All is fine until a well-known and cold-hearted former Senator becomes terminally ill and takes up with Savin' Sam much to his family's dismay. What ensues is a son's journey through South Georgia in search of his father, in hopes of making amends for years of separation and general distain for each other. On the way, the son finds the true nature of himself and ultimately finds his true father.
This is a must for those who really love wacky southern fiction. The characters are rather Faulknerian-- full of eccentricities on the surface, but all have substantial depth. Having grown up in the South, I could identify with the odd characters and the plot seemed remotely plausible. I laughed at the realism, but ended up a little tearful at the end.

In spite of what Disney tries to make us believe, not all talkative little animals are good hearted and cute, friendly and scatterbrained. And who better than the great Crumb to set the record straight. In this book, he introduces us to a universe of talking insects, anthropomorphic animals and funny little beings who are replete with voracity and cruelty, egotism and desperation. Little friends of natural selection! Shows off his boundless imagination, iconoclastic worldview, and masterful draftsmanship. --Booklist

SURPRISE, SURPRISE.......2007-05-10
I was surprised at this book in Marilyn's own words. This interview was only a few weeks before her death. The pictures were amazing and beautiful. She did not seem at all depressed and was looking forward to the future. Makes you wonder if she was murdered. Surely seems that way after I read the book and looked at those pictures. It almost seems to say "see I want to live" and little did she know that her life was in danger! Poor Marilyn. I hope wherever she is, she knows that some people believe that she did not kill herself. And I hope she is at peace.
Always love Miss. Monroe.......2007-03-25
This book is unique in that it comes from George Barris's last days spent with her. I love the photos because they are candid not posed. This bok also includes the last photo ever taken of her. I'm on my way to own almost every Marilyn book and Im am pleased with this one.
Norma Jean the woman you thought you knew........2006-08-26
I have to say that it is just amazing how after 44 years Marilyn Monroe is still considerd one of the most beautiful women to ever live. After seeing the photographs of Marilyn Monroe taken by Mr. Barris in this book I am not suprised that people are still captivated with the beauty of Marilyn Monroe. The pictures of Marilyn in this book are amazing and beautiful. Marilyn shows her true character in the most natural looking pictures I have ever seen of her. Each picture tells a story and shows you the woman Marilyn really was. Marilyn truely was a naturally beautiful woman and it shows in this book. This great book also lets you read and learn about the real person Marilyn Monroe was in her own words. Marilyn tells her life story in this book, taking you through her young years as Norma Jean to her Hollywood life as Marilyn Monroe. When you are reading this book it is very interesting to hear Marilyn talk about her life in her own words. Marilyn takes you along her life journey through the pages in this book. The only sad thing is when you are reading this book you wish Marilyn's life story would continue past the inevitable days of Marilyn's death on August 4-5,1962. I alreadly knew Marilyn was going to die before reading but it really made me sad because after reading this book it makes you feel like you actually knew Marilyn personally. That just goes to show how well written this book is. I have to say Mr. Barris you have done a great job writing this excellant book. Marilyn would truely have been happy with this book. Whether you are a Marilyn Monroe fan or you are just curious about this iconic Hollywood actress this book will definitely be intresting to read. Before I read this book I thought Marilyn Monroe was all Hollywood glitz and glamour. After reading this book however I found that Marilyn was a sweet down to earth woman who just wanted to be loved. I only hope Marilyn made it into heaven, because in her life most of the people that said they loved her and called themselves her friend only used and betrayed Marilyn. I hope that one day Marilyn's death will finally be proven as murder and this case of wrong doing can be closed so Marilyn can finally rest in peace.
A Touching Tribute to Marilyn.......2006-06-09
This was indeed a touching tribute. I felt very connected to Marilyn while reading her stories. The photos were just as gorgeous. I could have gone without George Barris' interjections as they usually just repeated what Marilyn said. But it was his book and she was apparently his friend, so I suppose he deserves some spotlight too.
Add this to your Monroe collections! It's a definite keeper.
"Terriffic, excellent and up close and personal look at the legend!".......2006-02-06
When this book was released, I did not know, that one day I would be the proud owner of numerous items that are shown in this book (like the orange Pucci, pants, and the white hooded bathingrobe, which was the LAST PIECE Monroe would wear alive{stated by her housekeeper Eunice Murray in her book!}), and which are worn by Marilyn Monroe. I bought them at Christie's in'99; an auction which was also attended by Mr. Robert W. Otto, who claims to have so many private items of Marilyn Monroe, and because they are PRIVATE he has no pictures of all the "junk" he is displaying(like so called Marilyn Monroe's hair rollers with hair attached - which are REALLY made in 1974 - 12 years after MM's tragic death!)This is a huge scandal & fraud! Look at this book, Mr. Otto! The items are ALL private items! And they were offered at Christie's! Why did you not buy ONE item there and now claim to have such an extensive and real collection, when you have not ONE photo of MM wearing any of your "personal items!" This book is so important, as George Barris (I met him several times in recent years during the memorial service for Miss Monroe each August 5th) really loved Marilyn, and that reflects in his photos! MM really seemed to have fun taking these amazing shuts. I do not agree that he took the LAST shot ever of MM, as also Bert Stern claims. Those were actually taken by Allan Grant! This book really is a must for any starting collector and also for the collector who claims to have "one of the biggest collection of MM memorabilia"! Maybe on MM dolls, plates, paper cut outs, wines, books about MM and magazines...?!
Thank you so much Mr. Barris, for such an important, and intersting piece, for the authentication of my MM treasures, in the puzzle that is called: Marilyn Monroe!
Book Description
The ever-controversial Shakur offers a great occasion for a close, passionate reading of rap and ghetto culture. White’s understanding of Tupac’s art will uncork the bottled up rage and confusion that attends the way hip-hop culture is produced and received. Rebel details each step in Shakur’s development, from his early exposure to racism and political activism to his move from New York to the West Coast and his innovative work with early hip hop culture and music. Through connections drawn between Shakur and Public Enemy, Notorious B.I.G., Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Sister Souljah, White examines Shakur’s life as a prism for the hip-hop world. Photographs, a useful chronology of important dates in the life of Shakur, and an updated discography and filmography of his career as a rapper and actor are included. “Talk about diversity, talk about identity, talk about icons—White’s in-depth look at Tupac Shakur talks about all of ’em.”—Booklist “White has written a nuanced, expansive and impassioned study of the life and art of Tupac Shakur.”—Tyrone Williams, Metro Times Literary Quarterly “Rebel ... is a means of analyzing the rage, fatalism and rootlessness of the contemporary rap scene.”—Select Magazine
Customer Reviews:
the worst book ever!!!.......2003-02-01
this book was not well thought out. it was just an attempt to sound intelligent, but failed. the purpose of a book the should be to enlighten your readers not with big sounding words but with good ones that best describe the situation you are trying to get across. to me the book had nothing to do with tupac, it dealt with the author's lack of ability to put words together to form a sentence that could capture his audience. he just used the icon's name to sell his book, and true we fell for it, the true fans of tupac. we try so hard to grasp hold on anything and anyone that can give us more facts than we already have, so it pains me when people do things like this book which was so so so poorly written. i would hate to have a face to face conversation with him. PAC will always be in our hearts, thoughts and thanks to the real Gs he will be on our radios, TVs, VCRs & DVDs. as PAC would say, "NEVER IGNORANT GETTING GOALS ACCOMPLISHED."
Better Than Dyson, Great Tupac X-Ray.......2002-08-17
A great x-ray of Tupac and a much better book than Michael Eric Dyson's foolish cashing-in on a dead rapper's tattooed body. A lot of stupid stuff has been written by the VIBE and Village/Stone people who just want to make money off 'Pac. REBEL makes you understand Tupac's confusion and the analysis of the rap lyrics are the best I've ever read about a rap star. (The chapter on "Dear Mama" should be included in every school literature class.) I recommend this book to anybody who loves 'Pac and loves hiphop. When Dyson's stupid book goes the way of the dodo, REBEL will still be read. It's the most serious and amazing Tupac book anyone could want.

Book Description
Drawing extensively from critical educational theory, feminist perspectives and the writings of community college insiders as well as from her three years of classroom research, Professor Herideen develops the concept of Critical Mainstreaming. This educational model transcends traditional dichotomies such as vocational vs. liberal arts education and educating for critical consciousness vs. training for upward mobility. Critical Mainstreaming provides a unique pedagogy designed to maximize educational and career success for nontraditional students. Her work challenges the current wave of higher educational reform proposed by policymakers such as President Clinton and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich by showing the limitations of the human capital model for education. Dr. Herideen proposes structural and instructional innovations so that educators, administrators, and policymakers can remedy rather than reproduce existing social inequities. Despite the fact that 39% of the nation's college students attend community colleges, there is almost no literature using student voices to explore the dilemmas of nontraditional students. This book is unique because it combines macro and micro sociological analysis by blending the insights of community college insiders with the abstract principles proposed by critical theorists. Through a theoretically based experimental approach to education for the less privileged, Professor Herideen shows the strengths and limitations of a variety of educational models.

Government and corporate interference have robbed the public of access to point-of-view programming. Through subterfuge, suppression of dissent, and thought control, Washington (with eager assistance from Madison Avenue) has locked out the ?creatives? and the educators 3/4 the people who fashion any culture?s future.
Download Description
Looking back on a successful career in public TV, this writer-producer shows how the dream of an alternative to commercial TV became American State Television, through government and corporate interference. Drawing on what actually happened during business meetings and other first-hand experience, the author demonstrates how Washington (and Madison Avenue) have straitjacketed this instrument of "freedom" and "democracy."
