Book Description
Louisiana is in a desperate battle to save what remains of its coastal wetlands, which are disappearing at the rate of a football field-size area every 38 minutes. Most people are unaware of the devastating transformation of this remote region, though the effects are detrimental for the entire country economically, culturally, and environmentally. Hoping that art will inspire concern where statistics have not, and focusing on the marshlands' beauty rather than their destruction, nature photographer C. C. Lockwood and painter Rhea Gary have joined together in Marsh Mission to show that a picture is worth at least a thousand words. Their rapturous thirty photographs and thirty paintings may well leave one speechless.
For an entire year, C.C. immersed himself in the wetlands, living on a houseboatthe Wetland Wandererwith his wife, Sue, a schoolteacher, who created an interactive classroom from the boat via the Internet. They covered more than 5,000 miles, taking the pulse of their environs and documenting everything from oil rigs to egrets and vivid setting suns. Rhea sometimes joined the Lockwoods and other times ventured out in her own bateau, designed to hold an easel for making oil-on-paper sketches. She produced the final oil paintings on canvas in her studio.
In his photographs, C.C. captures the quiet, hidden activity of the wetlands in all their paradisaical aspects. Breathtaking detailthe reward of day-in and day-out vigilance. Rhea conveys her emotional response to the light, color, and mood of the landscape with bold impressionistic strokes in raspberry, tangerine, lime, fuchsia, azure, and yellow. Hotlike the culture and the climate of south Louisiana. Together, the two impart an aesthetic experience that explains better than any map or scientific data the irreplaceable treasure being lost. A narrative by each artist enhances their visual testimony and gives a rare glimpse into the creative process.
Formed by silt deposits from the Mississippi River, Louisiana's coastal region constitutes 40 percent of all U.S. marshlands, but it is sinking at an alarming rate because the river's leveed bankswhile essential for flood control and ship navigationobstruct silt replenishment. With Marsh Mission, C. C. Lockwood and Rhea Gary offer a visionary tribute to this endangered, national natural resource. Their images should arouse awareness, appreciation, and, especially, action.

Witchblade.......2007-05-14
It is a very good book, the only problem was that some of the pages was stuck together at the top, and I had to use my scissor to spit them apart. One more if they ever do a movie on the witchblade series, I hope they don't cast Jennfer lopez or Eva Mendes. I hope they get someone more flexible.
Nice.......2007-04-30
Good way to catch up on the series, although a few Darkness issues were not included though they were included in the smaller compilations. This leads to some gaps in the story. Some other "side" issues weren't included like the Wolverine crossover one (one issue ends with a pic of W. in the distance). Also the book is heavy and what-not... but I'm very happy that it's all in color. I was very surprised that it was so. I expected it to be in black and white.
I also have a gripe about the pages... If only they left a little extra section so the middle was more readable.
Witchblade Compendium - Quality book.......2007-01-15
I bought this with the idea of reading 50 issues of stories at one sitting. This was a monthly book that had lots of history, and was hard to get into. This volume is a great way to catch up on the story, and read the history of the Witchblade. With a 2nd volume coming later in the year, I can catch up on the whole series.
The book itself is quite bulky, and there are several double-page spreads that are hard to read with the binding. But it is put together properly, and doesn't show signs of falling apart due to reading. Great value!!

Customer Reviews:
Very easy to read book with good info.......2007-09-13
I read through the book which was very informative, form ohh so thats how and TV never really was the same after. I have also tested out good part of it and got good resuslts. I would recommend it highly
Take a pass on this one.......2007-09-03
There are a view techniques described in this book that might come in handy someday, but the descriptions are not particularly thorough. The bottom line: this will make a good coffee table book but don't expect to learn too much.
Creative ideas for any video project.......2007-08-01
I was looking for a video book that shows methods of filming ideas. Just searching I ended up with very complex cinephotographer books that contained tons of detail but too complex for casual person like myself. Just happended to stumbled across this book and was really surprised at the clear writing style and easy to understand images. For making a simple film project with no budget I thought this was the perfect book.
If you are looking to improve your video skills or making a large student project, I would highly recommend this book. For the film student or professional these tips might be already covered in school. Many of the project require nothing special, just a standard video camera and basic editing software. This is a nice change from other books that almost require Adobe After Effects to produce a good special effect.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and will keep this in my video bag to spark any ideas I might need during filming.
EXCELLENT BOOK.......2006-03-25
very practical way of showing how to do multimedia effects at minimal or no cost. Good illustrations & straight to the point. very clear bullet points under the photos, No boring bulcky paragraphs.
I recomment this book, it's Excellent.
Some good some bad........2006-03-02
The lighting stuff is really nice. The special effects section is great, but some of the stuff at the end of the book is pretty cheesy at best. All in all, I found the book very useful.
Product Description
This book explains and shows in detail the various techniques used by fiddle players in creating a traditional style of playing. All the information is presented in the context of the music itself, with numerous transcribed and recorded examples. It is aimed not only at the beginner, but also the fiddle-player (and indeed violinist) with some knowledge and experience who wishes to learn more. For those unable to read music, a chapter on notation is included. Particular emphasis is given to bowing and ornamentation, with individual chapters devoted to Jigs, Slides, Plokas, Hornpipes, Airs and Reels. The book also attemptes to convey something of the excitement felt in playing music which has a large degree of improvisation, albeit within certain bounds. The demonstration CD, which features a large selection of the transcribed tunes and ornaments performed by Cranitch, is an invaluable aid to learning as it allows the listener to hear how the music and ornamentation should sound.
Customer Reviews:
Shouldn't the cds come with the book?.......2004-07-09
I've seen this book at music stores but was reluctent to purchase it because it seemed a little expensive and also didn't include the cds. Maybe it's good not to rely too much on the cds with books like these but I have to admit I feel they are essential. It's like having a teacher giving you a run-through of not only how it sounds but also the feeling of how to play it. I see the top seller on amazon is the Peter Cooper book which I bought but was a little disapointed at what I thought was a bit of an uninspired interpretation of the tunes. I suppose that the fact that its on mel bay and is called the complete irish fiddle player gets it alot of attention but I wasn't all that crazy about it. What I do like is the Kevin Burke 20 Irish fiddle tunes on Homespun and my favorite right now is Ireland's Best Fiddle Tunes by Paul McNevin (Waltons Publishing) which has 110 fiddle tunes and 2 cds. Evidentally you can get this with or without the cds but I got the cd edition of course and it was about 30 bucks. I probably should apologize for getting off track of the book in review but I really need to have the cd or I'm not really interested. Oh, the McNevin book also has the guitar chords. This is the one to get, in my opinion. It doesn't look like amazon has it but I see now that although it's Waltons, an Irish publisher, it's evidentally being distributed through Mel Bay. McNevin also has a guide to learning the Irish fiddle for about the same price but I haven't checked that out.
Great, Comprehensive Reference.......2004-06-27
So you want to learn the Irish fiddle, eh? First find yourself a great teacher and start learning these tunes by ear! Second, pick up a copy of this book and the two CDs that go along with it--if you want to learn a tune on your own this book is a wonderful resource. All of the tunes (from reels to hornpipes to airs and everything in between) are written out with little more than the melody, so that you can personalize each one with ornamentation and bowing. Therefore, this book has a more authentic feel to it than many of the other books out there that seem to leave nothing to the imagination. Aditionally, the CDs offer a great sense of appropriate ornamentation and rhythm for many of the tunes. They are essential to truly making the most out of this book.
This book does offer an overview of basic fiddle technique and starts off with chapters on each seperate style of tune. The back section simply contains a wealth of tunes written out in standard musical notation. Honestly, I would recommend this book as a companion to lessons with a teacher, rather than a subsitute for them, in order to master the technical aspects of fiddle playing. But for most people this book will make a wonderfully comprehensive resource for building up your knowledge of very authentic Irish fiddle tunes. It is truly the best of its kind that I have ever used.
Simply the Best.......2002-06-30
I have purchased a number of Irish fiddle materials over the last four years. I have played guitar for over 30 years and thought that I would try Irish fiddle. Of all the books and materials I have purchased, this is simply the best. The tunes are challenging, yet playable, (if you put some time in} even for a beginner. Mr. Cranitch's playing on the accompanying cassette is excellent, and the cassette makes for good listening on it's own. I would assume that an intermediate to accomplished violinist who wants to play Irish fiddle would find this book less challenging, but I am confident that he or she would enjoy it. For someone with no knowledge of the violin, it will be very challenging, and maybe discouraging. But, once you have the ability to play in tune in first position, and are comfortable and relaxed with your bowing, this is the book to buy.
Excellent Learning Tool.......2000-11-24
I have this fiddle book and it is very thorough. Matt is an excellent fiddle teacher. There is a CD and a cassette that goes with it, sold separately, usually at music stores. The CD is recommend so you can just hit the track button and replay a tune you're practicing rather than rewinding the tape cassette. Highly recommended for learning Irish fiddle.
Where's the tape?.......2000-08-15
I understand there is a CD or audio cassette with this book. Is it available through you?

Book Description
The fragmentation of social groups in the face of the global mass media has begun to threaten the survival of popular theatre companies. This study traces the development of various types of community theatre in Britain and Canada, from the '70s to the present day.
Attention is drawn to several key issues including: distinctions between popular and mainstream theatre; the Theatre in Education movement; influence of Theatre for Development from Africa and Asia; popular theatre as an art form, a process of self-empowerment and an instrument of cultural intervention. The book follows an innovative structure, integrating a comparative history of popular theatre with the contributions of current, active popular theatre makers. The co-authors, one British, one Canadian, shape their discourses around these contributions so that the the authentic voices are neither mediated nor distorted. The book is thus designed to appeal both to the theatrical practitioner and to the academic.

This exceptional board-book tells a beautiful and timeless story about a daughter's attempt to find the limit of her mother's love. Barbara Lavallee's exquisite illustrations of Alaska, with their exaggeratedly foreshortened perspective and rich tones of violet, blue-gray, and gray-green, tell of an easy declaration ("I love you more than the raven loves his treasure, more than the dog loves his tail, more than the whale loves his spout") that is pushed, and pushed, and ("What if I put salmon in your parka ... and ermine in your mukluks?") pushed. There's a quiet joyfulness in both the antics of the Inuit mother and daughter and in the animals--including a polar bear and a musk ox--that the daughter imagines she might become. A charming story for mothers and daughters of all ages. (Baby to preschool) --Richard Farr
Book Description
This beloved story of a child testing the limits of her independence, and a mother who reassuringly proves that a parent s love is unconditional and everlasting is a perfect first book for toddlers.
Customer Reviews:
Does not "show" or "prove" anything- a very average book.......2007-07-15
I bought this book because I am part Native and I wanted to keep that heritage alive for my daughter. I also liked the illustrations, which are beautiful, and she does too.
I was very disappointed in the story, however.
Rather than telling a story, this book reports a conversation between a mother and daughter that goes as follows:
"Mama, do you love me?"
"I love you so much [insert metaphor here]."
"This much?"
"Yes."
"What if..."
"I would still love you."
"What if..."
"I would still..."
"What if..."
"I would still..."
Et cetera.
I found this extremely annoying. It is not a child testing her mother's love; it is a child posing hypothetical questions. Moreover the mother's answers don't prove anything (as it says on the back of the book), because nothing actually happens.
It is sort of along the lines of The Runaway Bunny (which I liked), only more annoying, because the telling is all hypothetical, there is no intent to actually carry out any of the threats (unlike in The Runaway Bunny), and the language isn't as rhythmic, in my opinion.
The vocabulary is very rich but I do wish there had been a glossary of unfamiliar terms at the beginning, since some of these words are not ones that someone who does not live among or near Inuit would know.
All in all, a better book about love is Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree" and a better book celebrating Native American heritage is "Ten Little Rabbits".
I would only purchase this book if I owned all of the other books I wanted, and then mainly for the illustrations and vocabulary building.
Lots of Value in a Simple Board Book.......2007-06-27
My husband purchased this book for our 18-month-old son, and it has become one of his favorite books. I like that it shows a parent's unconditional love no matter what. It teaches that someone can be angry at and still love another person at the same time. It has also taught my son a lot about emotions, something he has had a difficult time understanding up until now. It also shows cause and effect (i.e. If you do that, I will be angry).
Finally, it has been fun to learn a little about another culture. I have had fun looking up the things in the book I didn't understand. I also like that, even though it is about the Inuit culture, that doesn't overpower the main lessons of the book.
Mama, Do You Love Me? Board Book.......2006-03-22
The book was in excellent condition and was mailed to me promptly.
Mama, do you love me?.......2005-12-07
I love this book and so does my 14 month old son. He loves the story and the illustrations. He sits "still" with me while I read it to him at his nap time and bed time and cries if I quit reading it. It is nice quiet, bonding time for us(he doesn't sit still for much). I feel it is suitable for his age and for when he is older. It has a great message. I highly recommend this book to everyone!
AWESOME BOOK.......2005-09-22
I love this book! It is my favorite. I use to read it all the time when I was little. Now I read it to my daughter everyday.
Book Description
Readers who were captivated by this tender story now have a soft, loveable doll to play with as they read along. the doll is beautifully dressed in the same brightly colored clothing as the Inuit girl portrayed in the book and comes with her own miniature doll. An ideal bedtime companion and comforting friend, the toy can be used to interact with the story, or children can play with the doll alone as they make up their own Artic adventures.

Excellent.......2003-05-18
This short story is set among the Inuit. A mother assures her daughter that she will be loved until the "puffin howls at the moon" and the "umiak flies into the darkness" even if the daughter breaks the ptarmigan eggs, puts lemmings in her mukluks or turns into a polar bear who makes her mother cry. The mother realistically acknowledges that she might have other feelings as well (disappointment, anger, fear) but that she will always love her daughter no matter what.
The prose in this book is so well written that it reads like poetry. The illustrations do a wonderful job of showing readers the meanings of the unfamiliar words. And the book has been edited for cultural accuracy as well as literary value. This book is a favorite in our family for those reasons, and I recommend it as a truly excellent story as well.
Mama Do You Love Me?.......2000-03-25
This book is about letting your children konw that no matter what you will always love them. This book gives examples of a child's worst behavior & because he/she has been bad that mama will no longer love the child. She shares that she will be angry, mad, or even sad, but she will never stop loving the child. This is a great book for parents going through disipline struggles or feeling guilty when you do need to discipline that the child feels unloved.
