My 22 year old son is enjoying this book. He has gotten several creative ideas for business cards. We do not appreciate the nudity on a couple of the cards though. (Very distasteful on a business card.)

Outstanding, but an update is overdue!.......2007-06-17

I bought this book in 2003, and it covered most of the bases then, but only the movies through 1998 ("Insurrection" IIRC; "Nemesis" is not covered.), and the 5th season of Voyager. It just covered the last season of DS9. And of course it has none of the "Enterprise" series.

There have also been events such as the Paramount auction of all the series and movie paraphernalia since then, and that could be a chapter all by itself.

I came on Amazon today expecting to see a new and updated version for sale, and was disappointed that the old edition is still all that's available.

Michael and Denise Okuda know everything there is to know about ST, and are the perfect people to update this. If I were shopping today for the first time I would say wait for the new edition, but buy a used paperback 1999 just to see what it's all about.

Keeping my fingers crossed that someone sees the demand for an updated version!

OK if you ignore obsolecence.......2007-04-19

Nothing on the end of Voyager's Delta Quadrant wanderings? Nothing on Enterprise's backstory additions and newly-created anachronisms? Both this book and the related Star Trek Chronology need serious revamping. I appreciate the Okuda's insider Trekker style, but this reeks of willful blindness!

Hi! I am from Italy. I have bought "Star Trek Encyclopedia" and I like it very much, but this book stops at 1999: it is not updated whith last Voyager's seasons (fifth, sixth and seventh), the whole Enterprise's cycle and "Star Trek: Nemesis".

Quite funny, if not for uber-fanboys.......2007-07-27

You need to know the series fairly well to get some of the jokes, and the humor and many references are decidedly British, but I had a lot of fun with this book.

Some folk who take Star Trek a mite too seriously take offense to this book, so if you have no stomach for a) irreverence and b) the Brits, you might not enjoy this.

Otherwise, I found it a gentle jab at the "revered science fiction cash cow" we've come to love (until Voyager).

I am a trekkie/er in my own right, and I seriously disagree with anything bad that has been said about this book. This is a fantastic romp through the trek universe with a whole bunch of brits willing to make fun of themselves and others for something they like a whole hell of a lot. The stories of how things were cancelled and naysayed and how people act about star trek in general are spoofed wonderfully here. All of you who didn't find it funny, surely don't have a sense of humor about yourselves and the show and should lighten up. But if you like to laugh, or get a good chuckle from turning a phrase, this is a fun book. enjoy it!

waste of money.......2005-07-02

The only thing I agree with is the title, this book is a completely useless piece of ****!! all the parodies and jokes made no sense to me, thank god I didn't buy it instead borrowed it from a friend and he too says it was a complete waste of time and money..

May be Hazardous To Your Health.......2000-11-22

If you are a Star Trek fan, you will either love this book, or hate it. This should be obvious from the reviews already posted, which seem to almost invariably give the book either 1 or 5 stars. The reason for this is that the book is hilariously funny, but has a wickedly mean sense of humor. Therefor, if you take your fandom very seriously, DO NOT READ THIS, as it will cause irreparable psychological dammage! If, on the other hand, you are able to laugh at Trek as well as your own geekdom, then by all means DO READ IT! But procede with caution, as you may find yourself incapacitated with laughter.

Outstanding work in capturing a Sci-Fi legend's history........1998-08-07

The encyclopedia has found a great way to put a legend's past on paper. The written information was astounding. Everything had a neat and accountable description and reference points to that particular item's episode or movie. The pictures and drawings were fantastic! They showed the starships in complete detail. My favorite was of course the ships used be the UFP and the enemy ships at the end of the book, just prior to the index. To the Authors and staff that created this book- KUDOS !!!! It is a book I am glad to have bought and it is well worth the money.

This is a very good book. It has complete listings of american toys and pictures. The pictures are b&w and color, but NOT ALL OF THE TOYS are presented in pictures. Each listing have three prices in $, the Complet No Package (CNP), the Mint in Package (MIP), and Mint In Mint Package (MIMP).

Terrible guide.......1999-02-12

Not only were the prices off, but they did not know anything about the toylines. Authors have no idea what year figures were even made. How can they possibly price them?

This book is badly edited, sloppily written, and unreliable. Major characters from The Original Series and the movies (Saavik, for instance) are left out while even the most minor character from The Next Generation receives full coverage. It's also too dated to be of much use to the Deep Space Nine or Voyager fan.

I don't recommend this book.

"Masters of Music" is by far one of the best books I have ever read. Mark Small and Andrew Taylor ask the right questions of a variety of Berklee alumni. Small and Taylor uncover the untold and provocative stories of music legends such as a George Martin, Quincy Jones, Paula Cole and members of Aerosmith. Each interview is prefaced by the history of each artist and what follows are truly captivating answers to questions I had never considered.
