An eye-candy treat of the best in digital toons and comics!.......2004-09-26
This is a suberb overview of the current state of digital cartooning. It showcases many of the top digital cartoonists and comics artists working today. It features beautiful full-color spreads of digital art, reproduced large (thank you very much), and details on the background and approach of each featured artist.
The book also includes many useful tips and techniques for digital cartoonists, although its real strength is as a showcase of some of the best digital cartooning and comics art out there. A beautiful book.

great western graphic novel; worth buying.......2003-09-10
"Desperadoes: A Moment's Sunlight", by Jeff Mariotte & John Cassaday. Sparse readers, specifically avid readers of western graphic novels, might hasten to critically judged the story trite. But on the contrary, I think ,the book turned out to be more than a delightful & moreso, an extremely gratifying read, if I may say so.
The underlying story prevalently engulfed with a supernatural tone, & it is genuinely a western/gunfight genre. However, what divide it from other western stories is the adept, precise intertwining of essential elements such as western evocations, gunfights, characterizations & the leads concise origin anecdotes, surrealism, pleasantness & poignancy all consolidated eloquently into one.
This book utilizes hordes of stereotypic yet vastly appropriate & breathtaking western evocations cluttered throughout the book. For instance, Pinkerton detective agency, broiling Indian war, long-standing cowboys/Indians feuds, railroads, saloon brawls, etc. The writer,Jeff Mariotte, displayed to us his expertise by churning out a classical tale of a western magnum opus, that none in a long while that had a pair of eyes laid upon. He, in my opinion, is doubtlessly one of the most inimitable writers of the genre. Also,in the same vein & echoeing the same good words to the designated artist,John Cassaday. His artwork are all eye-pleasing ,technically proficient & he managed to capture accurately, the essence of western horizons.
In retrospecting this work however, the book highest point undeniably, was the delineated & expansive characterizations of the casts, prerogatively, the main protagonists. The writer succeeded breathed life into each one of them by heightening their personas & identities, each given with robust, in-depth yet conspicously distinctive demeanors to one another. To quantify these words, the protagonists, figuratively, animated, stood out & came into life with their own. A testament & honor in-behalf of the author markmanship of storytelling.
"Desperadoes: A Moment's Sunlight" is actually a compilation of the original comics mini-series #l-5. The first 3 issues vastly expounded the four main protagonists how they rendezvous & likewise explored decisively the core plot of the story. Gideon Brood, the main lead, was surprisingly a likeable character. This part also enacted to us the archaic, old western lifestyle.
Issue four, by and large, was nothing more than a sheer denouement to the first 3 issues plot built-up. It was rife with cowboy gunfightings, dynamic actions & tensions & satisfyingly, gave us a utter resolution to to every dangling plot & sub-plots.
The last issue(issue 5) was an independent & stand-alone tale. It was surreal in thematic & certainly merits as a bookend to finally closed the story. It delved further to Gideon Brood past by introducing us to western & Gideon Brood untapped frontiers & as well those unseen minor characters until this time.
This graphic novel is composed of 120 pages, in comic book size, softcover, colored, printed in excellent, glossy quality & coarse paper( the inside pages are glossy, quite thick & somehow coarse). All in all, good production quality. The opening pages & the end pages of the book includes loads of extra materials such as sketches, introductions, foreword, afterword & comments.
If you loved this book, I have a few other western graphic novels to reveal which I'm very fond of. " the big book of weird wild west" softcover produced by DC comics; the sequel "Desperadoes: a quiet in the grave" softcover by. Jeff Mariotte.
A more than worthy book to buy & recommended to add to your collections.
Highly recommended !

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

AN UNDERRATED MOVIE, AN UNSUNG CLASSIC.......2005-04-09
I bought this book because I wanted to see some of the artwork that was part of a movie that my teacher from Art Center worked on. Yes, I must confess, I have never seen the movie, but bought it because I love collecting books on art and animation.
I have to agree with a previous review that pointed out that this book should have come out in hardcover format. It is too bad that Disney ignored it, and cut out on advertising, because the artwork is truly a treat. Nonetheless, I'm glad to include this book in my collection; it's more than worth its retail price!
Should be available in HARDCOVER format.......2003-04-28
The book's overview of the movie is excellent, but Disney fans deserve a more durable chronicle (i.e., hardcover) of the film! Likewise, there was no hardcover tome of "Lilo & Stitch", much to the displeasure of many hardcore Disney fans (including myself).
The upcoming Disney/Pixar film, "Finding Nemo", has a companion book that is a quality sewn hardcover. Why doesn't Disney itself insist on such top-quality books for _all_ films produced under its own (exclusive) label?
An amazing look into the world of Treasure Planet.......2003-04-23
I already loved the movie, so I was exstatic to purchase this book. It helped me learn more in-depth into the characters and their backgrounds. It was also funny to see the character development pics. They looked so bizzare. All in all, the high price is worth it. I am so glad that I bought this book!
Not only a great coffe table, also a "before slumber" book.......2003-03-14
This sort of new type of "Behind the Scenes" and "The Art of" books created lately by disney is great. The price is more than just right. The quality of the form is awesome: great pictures, quality of the paper... and the content is very good also: a real close up look at the process of making the film. Also, a very interesting analysis of the virtual world created by Disney for this film. When I saw the movie I simply enjoyed it. Now that the video-dvd is comming out, I can't wait to own it and watch the film again, thanks to this book. The analysis of all the parafernalia, the planets that were created, the imagery, the psychological study of the characters and the animation itself, both 2D and 3D is really good. I truly recommend this book to any Disney aficionado. It helps you understand the film better. Also, the process of its creation. It's a treasure in itself. You don't need to go to any planet to get it.
Delightful piece for any fan or collector.......2002-12-22
I thorougly enjoyed the movie "Treasure Planet" for the art as much as the story. It really was one of Disney's most beautiful films.
That's why I enjoyed this book so much. It gives an in-depth look at the art, the style, the making, etc. Each character is discussed with their background. Best of all, there are amazing pictures--sketch, rough-draft, final--that are absolutely georgous.
This book is a great look into the movie. If you loved "Treasure Planet", you will appreciate this.

Customer Reviews:
One of the best D&D books out there.......2007-09-15
Aplicable to all classes to one degree or another. Very fun content and totaly worth the price.
One of the best "splat" books.......2007-06-27
As an ardent D&D DM, I collect all the generic source books when I can. Some are so-so, but this is one of my faves. Lots of general stuff for players and NPCs, and less "weird/nutty/overpowered or dumb" Prestige classes.
-The prestige classes in the book are pretty good, more for folk who preffer "quest/Roleplaying" than "hack n' slash". The vigilante, dread pirate and street fighter fit in well with "rough and ready", city campaigns and the like.
-Most of the feats are pretty good (though I don't like the one that lets you use a weapon in off hand as light, uh, no, too much potential for abuse)
Over all, pretty good if you're more "adventure/rp" and less "munchkin with dice", but the things in it are good "crunch" as well as "fluff"...it's nice though to see more believeable stereotypes brought to life in the PrCs, and be useful, such as the streetfighter and bloodhound.
-It also adds the "Ninja" as a full class, and the Scout. I dislike the scout's "skirmish" ability as it makes no sense (more damage while firing on the move, eh? Sorry, not believable), but many will like the Ninja, which is different enough from the rogue for them not to overlap too much, and still be cool to play.
:)
Great book for Gamers.......2006-07-05
I find this book very helpful in my D&D games. With the new prestige classes introduce, I have completed my characters and so have my fellow gamers. I would recommend that any serious gamer aquire this book for their collection. It could be a life saver.
Helpfull material.......2006-02-20
This book, besides new classes, and prestige classes, contain a lot of information about new spells for all classes and feats that may lead your new adventures. I rate it OK. a must have book.
D&D Rocks!.......2006-01-15
Been a player for almost three decades. Always seem to be a Dungeon Master and this book is helpful, though lately I tend to just sort of make up rules as I go along.
For those role players who like to read, try The Unsuspecting Mage by Brian S. Pratt. This book is about a teen who role plays, goes to another world and uses the skills learned through roleplaying to help him survive. It's an action packed book that's hard to put down. Role Players rejoice!
