blown away.......2004-02-22
I purchased this book last fall and was blown away by the remarkable works of Ms Capole. In January of 2004 I had the wonderful opportunity to attend her first portrait workshop. There I was able to view several of the origional paintings in person and can say that the color quality of the book's photos are true to life. The instructions are presented in an organized, concise manner along with corrosponding step by step photos. If you cannot attend one of Wende's workshops, this book is your second best option!
Author?.......2004-01-07
Daniel Greene is Ms. Caporale's husband, but he's nowhere credited in the book, as far as I can discover, with being a co-author, though I'm sure he probably lent an editorial eye. Wende can carry the promotion on her own merits.
In any event, both are masters in their own right.

Something worth buying.......2003-12-12
Yet another book by author/artist Michel Gagne'. I have them all and this one did not disappoint. I like it my wife likes it and my kids cant put it down. The drawings are what to expect from Mr. Gagne', his style his art his unique way of doing a book. I would recommend this to anyone who has loved his past books.
Cute kids book.......2003-12-09
Although the layout and drawing skills of the artist are sub-par, this book will amuse your children (although it's for 6 and under). What it lacks in imagination, it makes up for in a childs interest in monsters. Cute for a quick read, but not one for the library.
Very imaginative.......2003-03-22
This guy never ceases to amaze me. I gave this book to all my friends for Christmas, and everyone loved it. It's wacky, surreal, funny and imaginative. The perfect coffee table book.
Book Description
Myrl Schreibman has written a straighfoward, insightful, and articulate account of what it takes to make a successful feature film.
Customer Reviews:
I recommend it.......2007-07-05
I bought this book for my cousin who wants to start out in the film business. This book helped me break down the who's who in the industry and the breakdown and samples are easy to understand.
MUST READ FOR ALL PRODUCERS.......2007-04-27
I just completed a feature length screenplay that will soon become a feature length film. To prepare for production I decided to purchase two books: Creative Producing A to Z, and, A Film Director Prepares, both by Myrl Schreibman. Having just finished reading them, I now know I could not have made two better choices. Buy them both, read them both, then read them both again! I promise, your film career will be well served.
A STAPLE FOR ANY FILMMAKER.......2006-04-18
This book is the producer's version of Gray's "Anatomy of the Human Body." Without a doubt, Schreibman's text is the blueprint for any successful indie film and should be read and thoroughly consulted by every creative producer - experienced or otherwise. Furthermore, this book that can be extremely useful to directors and screenwriters because it provides a real understanding of what the producer does and how the other creative entities can best collaborate with the producer for creative and practical synergy. In short, this book is a must for anyone who wants to make movies.
No-nonsense bullet-proof advice.......2004-07-17
I recently finished producing my own independent film and found this book right at the beginning of my post-production period.
I wish I had found it earlier. It is full of no-nonsense advice and information that is practically bullet-proof, and I ended up agreeing with about all of it. Schreibman, who apparently has a long history of producing films for t.v. and theatrical market, has paid his dues, done his homework, and knows another "feel-good" you-can-do-it book isn't necessary.
He tells you like it is, doesn't pull any punches, and helps you avoid the most common mistakes, both legally and aesthetically. Writing and directing are generally the more "arty" positions in film production - the Producer is supposed to keep the ship moving forward and avoiding any fatal mistakes. This book directs you in the right direction.
My film was a "micro-budget" film, and this book may ultimately be more useful for "larger" independent features, including ones with SAG deals, distribution in place, and budgets closer to 7 figures. While all the advice here applies to everyone making a movie, it's the attitude Myrl conveys that I really appreciated and believed in, more than some of his nuts-and-bolts info. The contract samples at the end were also very helpful when I went out and began looking for more help finding money to finish my film (which I eventually did).
Now I'm dreaming of using the rest of the info here for my next film!
A practical, no holds barred look at the production process.......2004-04-23
If you are looking for a practical, REALISTIC book on how to begin and finish the production process, this is the book for you. I began my very extensive hunt for a book that would spell out the production process from A-Z. This book delivered on what it said. Very often in this industry it can be smoke and mirrors...not here my friend. Myrl speaks from experience and gives it to you straight. You WILL understand the production process from start to finish after reading this book.
As an added note, I was so impressed with the book that I contacted Myrl to consult with me on a recent project. He delivered on his promises and helped me guide my project to a successful finish. A five-star book and a five-star person.

Secrets Every Hero Should Know
What does an elf from Shae Cairdal know about the nation of Aerenal? How do you play a half-orc from the Shadow Marches? What does your character know about the Blood of Vol or the royal line of Galifar? Player’s Guide to Eberron answers these questions and more. This companion to the Eberron™ Campaign Setting explores the world from the player’s point of view and presents exciting new options for Eberron characters.
Player’s Guide to Eberron describes important locations, events, organizations, races, and features of the Eberron campaign setting, organized in an accessible and easily digestible format so that players can use the book as a handy reference guide. In addition, this book provides new feats, prestige classes, spells, and magic items.

Customer Reviews:
DMs, please abstain!.......2007-06-20
THis book has basicly two parts, both entirely designed for players. The first one contains some information about how to roleplay your character according to the personality options that an Eberron adventurer is likely to develop. There is pretty cool information and it helps define the PC, so he finds himself more at home. This chapter goes fome page 7 to 13. The rest of the book is part two.
Chapter 2 is an encyclopedia containing most of the most interesting topics in the Eberron Campaign Setting. There is a lot of inspiration for players in there, as every topic is very player oriented, with explanations about how a PC may get involved with different aspects of the world and society. It's prett cool, but for players only. For DMs, I think almost the whole of this information can be found in the Eberron Campaign Setting. (of course, with some mor searching through the book, since the ECS is not alphabetically ordered as this Player's Guide)
I hate the way prestige classes, feats and new spells or items are presented in this book. They don't have their own chapter; they are instead scattered through Chapter 2, and not even the index shows which enrty refers to a prestige class. So, you may sometimes "discover" a new PrC you never heard of while looking for information about Valenar, for example. Maybe that reinforces the way a PC aqquires knowledge: by asking the DM about a specific topic. But as I said, this book is meant to be in the hands of a Player, not a DM.
There are a lot of sidebars in this book showing the Knowledge DC for most of the information provided in the book, but i guess its purpose is to save he DM the time it takes to think about the appropiate DC.
Well, in short, it is a book for players really into the ECS and/or those incapable of waiting fo their Eberron DM to throw in some information about the world. If you are an Eberron DM, there are a lot of books you should buy before this one.
Very Useful.......2007-03-15
Of all the books at my fingertips in a gaming session, this one (besides the core Eberron book, PHB, DMG, MM) gets the most use. I really like the information provided to the players based on their skills. Furthermore, it is easier to track down this information than in the Eberron Campaign Setting book.
Sadly not that useful.......2006-10-20
I run an Eberron campaign and was really eager for one of my players to get this. I thought it would hold most of the information from the Eberron Campaign Setting book, only with the 'behind the scenes' details and story paths ripped out. I was hoping it would provide the players with a great explaination of the lands, the houses, etc., but it really falls short. The format is really strange, and I find it hard to find what I'm looking for. The information is also not nearly as useful as anything in the campaign setting book, so usually I end up just pulling information from there, rewriting it sometimes to take out details that my players shouldn't know about. Kind of a bummer, as I really liked the idea of this book.
What a Rip Off .......2006-05-05
This is a 160 page Player's Source Book Not an Art or Picture Book. Wizard's made the decision to limit most of their source books to 160 pages. Frankly I'm getting tired of reading Wizard Web articles about "All the Material" they had to cut and couldn't fit into a source book after it is released when almost a quarter of this source book like most of their recently published books have to much of the book devoted to art, pictures and reprinting already published material.
Is it useful? Yes and it introduces some new material but it also Fails to Make the Grade. Unless you have money to burn in my opinion this source book only rates the status of a single group source gaming reference versus purchasing as a personal reference book.
The first four pages are a cover page, a credits page and two full pages of pictures. Lose the 2 picture pages and combine the credits and the cover page in the future frees up 3 pages for material.
Basically 15% of the source book 24 & 1/4 pages of 160 are devoted to art and pictures. Things like 4 pages of Full Page Art, 6&1/2 pages of Half Page Art, 4 & 3/4 pages of Quarter Page Art, 1&1/3 pages of One Third page Art and 3 & 2/3 pages of 1/6 or less page Art. Quit reprinting old art and the same old maps again and again.
The Player's Guide to Eberron was produced after the Eberron Campaign System but well over 10 pages are devoted to Reprinting established material. Something a single sentence can reference which they already do for monsters and spells like: The Basics of The Sovereign Host or The Dark Six or The Blood of Vol were introuduced and covered in ECS page....
Good Stuff; I Just Wish There Was More Of It!.......2006-04-19
I picked this book up somewhat reluctantly - my budget for D&D books is pretty tight - but I'm glad I did. The title is misleading - it's an EVERYONE Guide to Eberron, and if you like the setting, this book is a definate must-buy. My only complaint is that it was too short.
Because Wizards of the Coast limited the book to 160 pages [in line with other, similar releases], there just wasn't enough space to cover everything I wished this book had covered. For example, the Five Nations get a 2-page spread, the Demon Wastes get 4 pages, Droaam gets 52 pages, the Eldeen Reaches get 4 [but that also covers Druidic Sects], The Mournland gets 2 pages, Q'Barra gets 2 pages and Valenar gets 6 pages [including a new prestige class] - but Aundair, Breland, Karnath, the Mror Holds, the Shadow Marches, the Talenta Plains, Thrane and Zilargo, DON'T get their own entries - and they should have. Sure, they get a *little* coverage under other entries, but I would have appreciated a more thorough overview. The information on the other continents and the oceans of Eberron is terrific.
But WotC cut out *everything* that can be found in other references, so this book is almost 100% pure new material - which is its blessing and its curse. If the encyclopedia-style layout bothers you, there is an excellent Index in the back of the book [which is too often missing from WotC products] in addition to a detailed Table of Contents. The book is fun to browse through, and it's easy to find a specific piece of information if you need it.
I especially like the way this book ties together supplemental game stuff into Eberron. Use any of "The Complete..." books and you'll find suggestions for where the new core classes and prestige classes will work. Races for the "Races of..." series find out-of-the way homes in Eberron - so if you use those books, they're covered - and if you don't use them, you lose nothing from the game world. The book is worth the cost just for that help.
I would have been willing to pay more for more content, though - especially if it were of the same quailty as what was included. That is the only reason I rated this book at 4 stars instead of 5. Actaully, I think it deserves a 4-and-a-half.

Have you ever cried from laughing too hard?.......2001-10-12
Absurd and hilarious, H.E. Bates introduces you to the strangest family you're ever likely to meet. A tax officer is sent to their house to collect overdue taxes, only to find himself thrown into their somewhat chaotic, but extremely loving and fun life. Set up with the daughter, he throws away his old life to join theirs. Wonderfully written, humorous and kind, one to be read when you're feeling down, or if you're outside enjoying a summer day - best enjoyed with an iced drink and a picnic blanket. H.E. Bates is sure bet for an excellent read - I have read eight novels by Bates now, and have yet to be disppointed.
You don't know what you're missing.......2001-07-23
I first read The Darling Buds of May about thirty years ago. Recently BBC added some episodes and turned it into a series starring David Jason, which was acknowledged as the very best of British Comnedy. Incidentally, Catherine Zeta Jones got her big TV break in this series as the beautiful Larkin daughter.
If you get a chance to get hold of a copy of H.E.Bates classic tale of Pop Larkin and his family, you should do so, just for the joy of reading something that is so funny it will split your sides.
Fifties British humor.......1997-05-10
Now a BBC video, the Larkin family rollick through Britain of the '50's. I think you have to be both an Anglophile and addicted to out-of-print British
authors--both of which am I!--to enjoy this. Nothing less like Angela Thirkell can be thought of--these are the adventures of the Lower Class.
And highly enjoyable they are.
Customer Reviews:
Strangely attractive.......2006-02-11
These novels are sort of wonderful and very strange. Though I'm certainly not an expert in mid-20th century British popular fiction, I will say that Bates' Pop Larkin books are like nothing else I've encountered. They are a fascinating mixture of wit, broad humor, subtlety, narrative minimalism (i.e. sometimes not much "happens"), daring-for-the-time eroticism, offbeat sentimentality, and purple prose. Given the frankness and ahead-of-the-times "free love" attitudes, I'm surprised that they weren't banned when they appeared in 1958-1960. How nice that (as far as I gather) they weren't -- and thus they were able to provide a merry, titillating (if perhaps implausible) romp in the English countryside, with characters who almost always love life. In this magical, make-believe world, drinks flow endlessly with no ill effect, and nearly all in sight adjust their pace to the idiosyncratic idyllicism of Ma and Pop Larkin and their brood.
A Golden Drop of English Sunshine!.......2002-04-02
Within this book's 331 pages are the first three of five novels in H.E. Bates' "Pop Larkin" series: The Darling Buds of May, A Breath of French Air, and When the Green Woods Laugh. For anyone looking for a light, sunny, happy, warm-hearted, gently-humourous book, I just cannot recommend this one highly enough. In fact, it's one of the few books that can easily be read and reread again.
The novels are set in rural England of the 1950s and centre around Pop and Ma Larkin (actually they're not married, but somehow it just never seems to matter) and their brood of six (make that seven) children. The world in which they live can only be described as a pastoral paradise. Although we get an inkling that the Larkin's farm is, in reality, rather like a junkyard, the novels are a testament to that old saying that life is 90% attitute and 10% circumstance. We see the farm and its surroundings and inhabitants largely through Pop's rose-coloured perspective. As a result, we escape into a world of fragrant golden buttercups and bluebells, into fields of plump, ripe strawberries, and into a kitchen that endlessly emits the heavenly, mouthwatering aromas of Ma's rich, delectable country meals.
Pop is quite a character, and his sunny, carefree disposition and overwhelming generosity, together with his acute focus on the sensory delights of his surroundings, imbue the book with a sense of warmth and beauty that one seldom finds in novels. Pop and Ma take life as they find it and people as they find them, and they never seem to let anything rattle them. Though it's never spelled out, one gets the feeling that life is simply too short a journey to spend it focussing on the bumps one incurs along the way.
I discovered this lovely series through watching the wonderful dramatisation starring David Jason (as Sidney "Pop" Larkin) and Catherine Zeta Jones (as his daughter Mariette), which I also highly recommend. Whether or not you've seen the dramatisation, if you're looking for a cheery, thoroughly relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable read, you'll enjoy this sweet book. In short, it's absolutely "perfick"!
