Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Dr Josef Mengele has a plan. It involves a lot of clones, and a lot of assassination involving the parents of these clones.
A classic thriller.......2006-10-07
In September 1974, a secret meeting of the Kameradenwerk (German for "Comrades Organization") is called to order in Sao Paolo, Brazil with these words, "Lasst uns jetzt Geschaft reden, meine Jungens." ("Let's get down to business now, boys.") Spoken by the Nazi Angel of Death, Dr. Joseph Mengele, they immediately bring quiet to the room. Mengele outlines a plan to his cohorts, all ex-Nazis: over the next two years, they are to travel the globe, arranging the deaths of ninety-four men in their mid sixties. Mengele assures them that their efforts will fulfill the destiny of the Aryan race.
Unknown to the participants, their meeting has been clandestinely recorded by Barry Koehler, a young American seeking to ingratiate himself with legendary but aging Nazi hunter, Yakov Liebermann. After fleeing the premises with the tape, Barry reviews its contents, then calls a confused Liebermann in Vienna (it's early morning there) to alert him. At first skeptical, alarm bells start jangling in Liebermann's mind when Barry's call is cut short after someone breaks into his hotel room. Concerned about the now missing boy's fate, and by the troubling news he delivered about Mengele's activities, Liebermann investigates, slowly uncovering the sordid details of the Kameradenwerk operation.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this famous book's plot, it would be unfair to reveal additional details--half the fun of the novel lies in Levin's slow reveal of the insidious Nazi scheme. That's not to say those familiar with the book's premise will enjoy it any less, as the other half lies in watching a master at work--only Ira Levin could squeeze so much tension out of what amounts to a battle of wits between two sexagenarians.
The Boys From Brazil is a breathtaking work of suspense, a classic thriller exhibiting two key traits of the best of Levin's novels, a fascinating premise and exemplary pacing. A master at snaring and retaining his audience's attention, Levin draws readers into his carefully constructed web, sparingly doling out information in service of his story. Because readers must struggle alongside Liebermann to put the puzzle pieces together, realizing the full import of Mengele's plan at the same time the Nazi hunter does, it's almost as if they are first hand participants in the unfolding action.
There are scenes in this book which you'll find yourself thinking about weeks after you finish--these memorable set pieces, together with Levin's subtle consideration of the morality of those on both sides of the conflict, make The Boys From Brazil "unputdownable" and unforgettable.
An effective, if dated, thriller.......2005-08-07
The Boys from Brazil is a speedy, smooth thriller for two or three lengthy and compulsive reading sessions. Despite shallow character development and several major plot-holes - in a plot that's somewhat contrived and ludicrous to begin with - the whole thing holds together quite well and makes for an effective read that draws the reader in quite easily and makes it easy to miss its flaws. It's clearly genre literature, the kind that fails to transcend literary genre or time; but it's good enough as to appeal not only to avid fans of that genre, and though it's hardly serious fiction - or serious science fiction, for that matter; the science of the novel is highly far-fetched and contrived - and many will scoff at it, it's a thriller that does its job well and is hard to ignore. It won't last in your mind more than a day, but during the reading time itself it's haunting.
As major Nazi conspiracies go, The Boys from Brazil isn't quite as convincingly scary as William Goldman's brilliant Marathon Man, neither novel nor film. Both characters, Nazi and Jew, are ultimately stereotypical caricatures - though Levin did his best to give Dr. Mengele a couple of redeeming human moments, these come off as sarcastic and laughable rather then authentically human. And the message of the novel, though it's certainly there, and comes over clearly - perhaps a bit too clearly - feels forced upon the reader, time and time again over the two hundred pages.
And yet, The Boys from Brazil is entirely entertaining, frighteningly involving, and continually thrilling, and even though at times you might consciously laugh at the naïve, simplistic, dated ideas and messages, you'll have a tough time putting it down. And when all's said and done, that's just what it should do. It's certainly not a major classic, and far from essential, but it's still a bloody good read that, in it's own way, still works.
captivating summer reading.......2003-09-01
This is a very interesting book to take with you on vacation -- there is no chance you will get bored. It is not a piece of literature that requires great deals of concentration. No way! But it is an easy-to-read and captivating story, which shows that Ira Levin has plenty of imagination and a gift for creating suspense.
The story takes place in 1974 and involves Dr. Mengele, known as the Angel of Death, a famous figure in the concentration camp of Auschwitz during World War II. In the story, he is involved in a crazy and revolutionary project, designed to lay new seeds for the Aryan dominance in the world.
I admire the writer's gift for creating vivid dialogue and a well built story so compelling that it was difficult for me to put the book aside, just what I wanted for perfect reading at the seaside.
a thriller that has aged pretty well.......2003-08-04
a book that sat on my bookshelf for a long time. i was not a fan of the movie and thought the book would be mundane but surprisingly it was an enjoyable suspenseful read with an original idea employed.

Overall Good Book.......2002-04-07
In the area of World War Two, Hitler historical fiction this is an interesting story. The author created a plot that is getting close to possible with today's technology. A lot of the historical facts introduced in the book are accurate and the author uses these facts to build a complete story. From a wiring point of view the book is above average, but not an edge of your seat thriller. The story is complete, the plot is a good one and there is adequate character development. It is a good book that is worth investing the time.
A Thriller Ahead of Its Time.......2002-02-16
Boys from Brazil begins disturbingly, with of group of three men in South American plotting to kill 94 men with civil servant-type jobs. These men are to be killed at specific dates but no mention is given of why. Thus the book continues, slowly building to an unpredictable climax of repeated history that must be stopped.
Even though I already knew the ending to this book it was still a wonderful read, and I heartily recommend it to anyone who knows their ABC's
The Fourth Reich.......2002-01-06
The writer of this book was Ira Levin. This is a story about Nazi Germans plotting to spark the beginning of a fourth Reich by systematically murdering 94 men who are 64 to 66 years old.
I sort of liked the book because I like learning about WW2 stuff. The science behind this book is relevant to today. It's kind of scary to think of what would happen if it were real.
Fabulous thriller.......1999-01-22
Still seems to haunt us, given the more recent clonings of things, not only sheep.

What I thought?.......2004-12-16
The book ws interesting to me as i like Justin a lot and wanted to know more about him and his past. However the writer does not include all the info that I would have liked to write about. The book kept me interested as it had pictures and the text was simple and very easy to read. Although it was not written by Justin I still feel that what he would have said is something like what the author puts across.
Excellent account of pop's hottest star.......2004-07-31

Book Description
A new D&D sourcebook detailing the major races of the Eberron™ world.
Races of Eberron provides Dungeons & Dragons® players and Dungeon Masters with an in-depth look at the new races of the Eberron™ Campaign Setting, including changelings, the kalashtar, shifters, and the warforged. The book includes extensive information on each race, plus new race-related feats, prestige classes, spells, and equipment. In addition, this book highlights the other major races of the Eberron world, including elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, half-elves, half-orcs, and drow.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent resource.......2007-06-28
Races of Ebberon is an excellent resource for the Dungeons & Dragons Ebberon campaign setting. It gives players more backround information on the various races and power groups to take role-playing to a new level. This book also introduces new feats and spells to take your character in new directions.
Great material but not worth a separate book.......2007-01-07
The Races of Eberron supplement is well-written, well-organized, and contains a relatively extensive set of information for anyone interested in incorporating the new races presented in theh Eberron Campaign Setting into any generic campaign. The information is complete, and the book does include feats and other means of specialization for each race that cannot be found in the Campaign Setting.
Depsite all of these plusses, though, the supplement suffers from trying to fill a niche that has already been filled. I had a chance to read both of this product and the Campaign Setting before I purchased them, and though I did purhcase both I feel a bit ripped-off. Like I said, there is enough new content in the Races of Eberron supplement that it was worthy of purchase, but this book is another entry on the list of Wizards' attempt to make us buy the same material twice. It's a frustrating trend that I see developing.
Like I said, the book is worth buying, but it gets four stars because I do not feel that the new information is worth the full price of admission. I would buy the Campaign Setting first because for $10 more you get a great deal more material that you can also integrate into any generic campaign with a bit of imagination.
A product for both those who own Eberron and those who don't fails to please everyone........2006-09-15
This product details the four new races introduced in the Eberron Campaign Setting (hereinafter "ECS"): the Kalashtar, the Changeling, the Warforged, and the Shifter. While it clearly has a strong Eberron focus, the stats for these races along with their feats from the ECS are reproduced here for any DM who wants new races without having to purchase the ECS. Discussion on inserting these races into more traditional fantasy worlds is presented as well.
The book falls flat in a variety of ways, however. The racial write ups are the height of bland, saying very little that a person of average intelligence would not naturally realize. While there are occasional gems in the race write ups, such as the discussion of different philosophies among the changelings, even those interesting bits of insight are repeatedly used until the reader is tired of them. The racial setting material adds extremely little to the Eberron setting, though it may be of more use to a reader who is completely unfamiliar with Eberron.
New feats, spells, prestige classes, substitution levels, and other mechanical additions are presented. They're a mixed bag. Many of the feats and prestige classes do a good job of expanding on the potential conceptual focus of the existing races. The racial substitution levels are likely the best part for many gamers, though some of them do very little to change the base class.
Great Book! For Eberron..........2006-01-29
If you are playing the Eberron campaign it will really help you get into the head of those races you are.
Great Acessory!!.......2006-01-29
Races of Eberron has added depth to the new races presented in the campaign setting plus offers insight into the standard races from the PHB and their culture (per the Eberron Setting). It also offers new spells and racial feats.
Races of Eberron is great for those playing in the Eberron campaign setting or looking to spice up another setting.
