I was intrigued by the title of this book and once opened it was a like a cool breeze on a summer day. As a veteran designer I found myself nodding the head with affirmation. What is contained in the book is pretty simple; just read the description. The quotes, tips and insights are well worth remembering whether you are a designer or a client. Thought provoking for those serious about design.

This book has it all! It has sadness, hope, love and suspense. It shows courage from every single character in the book, and you just can't put it down- You are drawn to find out what happens in the end. It tells us what each person is thinking, how they accomplish difficult obstacles, and forget their failures. I abslutely loved this book, and would highly recommend it to anyone with a heart!

The Best In the Series .......2005-09-10

I picked this up from a used bookstore just before I entered the Navy in 1992. The action was enthralling and having read all the carrier books I find this to be the best one EVER. The battles are exceptional, the characters engaging and the scenario itself seemed plausable. Great job. I think the Carrier series would translate exceptionally well to a ongoing TV series. Hollywood...Give us a real Navy Drama with Politics & Action

Best One of the Series!.......2003-03-09

Definitly the first one to read, if not the only one. Action packed and really good at keeping the pages turning. The scenario is more interesting then his books with conflicts against the "Big Bad Russkies". Douglass has more depth in both the American and Indian characters in the novel and is very descriptive in the weapons systems and tactics.
The battle scenes are exciting. A couple of surprises here and there. Most of the action happens in the foreground except for at the end when some seemingly major events happen with a "by-the-way" attitude with an after the fact account. (An entire carrier battle group sunk!) After this book Douglass seems to sleep through the rest of the series as they turn VERY predictable and cliche with lots indestructable heros that never seem to run out of ammo or bad jockular dialogue. Tombstone Magruder must must think he's in the wrong place at the wrong time every single time the U.S. Navy fires a shot. Why doesn't he retire? Read this one though.

The best of the Carrier series I have read........1998-10-19

I had the chance to read this book first, for me it was the first in the series and let me tell you it`s the best for the action and the story.

You can predict the outcome but not the way things will happen. It should be the first one you should buy in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. I tried Border's out of print service but the copy the dilvered was more expensive, in mutilated condition, and didn't even have the dustjacket. Needless to say, Amazon will be getting all my future out of print business.

Very satisfying.......2005-06-06

I enjoy books about how movies are made and Mythmaking: Behind the Scenes of Star Wars: Episode 2: Attack of the Clones is very satisfying. It tells roughly day by day the story of how George Lucas and his merry bad of special effects wizards made the movie. It also breaks out into detailed sections on particular days. You get to see how 2 year old Jedi's are trained, how the actress playing Naboo's queen was cast and how the actor playing Jango Fett was discovered.

This is a very entertaining book and if you're a Star Wars fan that wants to know how it was all done you'll want this for your collection.

Good To Own.......2003-03-05

Star Wars Mythmaking really doesn't live up to it's name with its contents. It alludes to similar content as in seen and read in Star Wars: Mafic of the Myth. However, this book is about the filming process of Attack of the Clones.

Fans who loved Attack of the Clones and are in dire need of lesser known facts will rejoice in knowing this book covers them. Filimg dates, cut scenes, costumes, props and other facts are all covered.

The book is similar to the TPM Behind the scenes but with less details and more photos.

I was expecting something like "Star Wars: The Magic of Myth" for Attack of the Clones. It's nothing like that. There's no explination behind the story, mostly it just tells how the movie was made. There's tons of pictures but it is poorly organized and every page sings the praises of digital 'magic'. No depth to it at all.

Rants on Geezerhood from Old Man Meltzer .......2005-09-20

This is an uneven collection of rants and reflections on growing old from the grey area between middle and old age. Like most people who find the world changing more quickly than their ability to adjust to those changes as they grow old, Meltzer strives to make a virtue out of his inability to adapt to computers and the Internet, indiscriminately lumping them together with MTV and other, less benign, cultural excrescences. These sections are rather hackneyed and about what you'd hear from any aging 60's-survivor barfly muttering over his beer. More effective are Meltzer's unflinching descriptions of the physical decay and the loss of old friends and enemies that accompany staying alive over time. Read and heed, young people, and see what you have to look forward to (not that there's much you can do about it).

He's Ba-a-ack!.......2003-11-11

He's a curmudgeon always was, a cat with a taste for sour cream, a brilliant distressingly human type guy. Won't lie down and go to sleep on top of pedestals. Falls off roaring words, heart blazing from both barrels. He's a rock, jazz, and culture critic I first remember from the sixties. He saw through the ominous commercialization of music and culture back then, and he's been sawing through ever since.

If you're aging and alive as ever, remember something huge happening in the 60's that had nothing to do with misty water-colored memories, wonder how the exhilarating changes that took place for so many of us could have been so thoroughly distorted, effaced and buried in reams of ridicule, 'serious' criticism and nostalgic pap, (whew but true), Meltzer might be just what your bruised spirit needs.

This book and CD have changed my quilting life !!
I am now making the most perfect stars. I am just thrilled. The book and CD are so easy and so inspiring. Often I find an inspiring book which doesn't actually lead to me making the projects, not so with Carol Doaks book, which is one of my greatest treasures and never far from my cutting table. I can see so many fabulous quilts ahead. I scanned the templates to my computer and can now print off as many as I like when I need them, so no need to constantly trace everything. Thank you Carol for this marvellous book.

Great Reference Book.......2007-03-08

Carol makes stars so incredibly easy to do.
Her directions are easy to follow. By combining differnt elements from the 50 stars, the number of possile stars in staggering!

50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars.......2007-01-10

Excellent, precise directions are given for producing an A-1 product. The CD which accompanies the book gives step-by-step guidance that can be applied to any of the "stars" in this book. Cutting instructions are explicit; nothing left to guess about. I have made several projects from this book, and plan to do more. Also, the tips given can be applied to many other paper-pieced projects. I only wish ALL directions were as clear!

Great patterns, but not 100% paper piecing.......2006-01-04

Overall an excellent book, but beware, these stars are not 100% paper foundation pieced. Each star is made in eight relatively simple sections that must be joined to form the complete star. This step can be difficult due to the complexity of these designs.

Good Book, but.......2005-08-20

Really nice book, the CD that comes is very informative. The book is laid out nice, the only trouble i had with the book was to get the cd that has the pattern layouts to put on the computer, I had to go to another source listed in the book. It would have been nice to know that an additional CD was needed to use with the book, so the patterns to piece could be printed out on the computer's printer.

Wonderful journaling tool!.......2003-12-03

As a facilitator for journaling workshops I am constantly on the lookout for articles and books to expand my knowledge and share with clients. Loose Ends by Eldonna Bouton landed in my mailbox today and took the technique of "Unsent Letters" to new heights. This workbook takes you on a journey of closure from children and parents, to pets and teachers, to friends and your own epitaph. Each section begins with a beautiful, appropriate quote and is followed by a thought provoking writing prompt to get your pen moving. What a wonder-filled gift for family and friends! I look forward to sitting with this book on New Year's Eve and putting some closure to certain aspects of my life, allowing me to begin 2004 with a fresh outlook.

Excellent Personal Journaling Tool.......2003-12-01

This book provides easy, gentle guidelines for moving beyond troublesome spots in your life. Writing unsent letters is a basic yet powerful journaling tool. Once I started the exercises in the book, I was able to release much that I had forgotten I was holding inside. These exercises are wonderful for moving beyond personal obstacles.

Wasn't what I expected.......2002-06-08

Honestly, the book wasn't what I thought it would be. I don't know what I expected exactly, but I know I didn't expect it to be about writing a bunch of letters to people. Don't get me wrong. I liked the book. The entire book is about writing to someone like to your mother, to your father, spouse, siblings, teachers, etc. Which felt surprisingly freeing. I got to write down things I would never tell them in person. I wrote down things that I didn't even realize I felt until once I began writing. It's your choice whether or not you decide to share your letters with anyone, but either way you can benefit from the book. You realize the good and bad things about a person and are so grateful they are in your life and you also decide on ways to improve your relationship with that individual. Overall, I think it was a good beginning book on tying up loose ends.

This book seemed to be very elementary while depressing. It was intended to be therapeutic. I would not recommend this book for journaling. The book was too constricting. Write a letter to this person, that person telling them how you feel. It would have been nicer if the book stirred your creativity inside of stifled it.

All heaven breaks loose in chapter 17 when the target of the wrath of God is revealed to be New York City in 1999. The aftermath of the nuclear attack is described on a global level. The attack plunges the whole world into a 21-year war before Jesus returns and puts an end to the fighting. After 1,000 years of peace, Jesus leaves a second time. His third coming at some point in the future is the source of the visions of the Rapture and catastrophes that are sealed.

Wes McComb is a dear friend and devout Christian, who has written a provocative book in the long line of people of faith who have seen the Book of Revelation as a direct message for their own times. The book is written with wit, and humility, and asks us to see the glory of Jesus Christ throughout "Revelation," no matter what else we may or may not see in it. Wes' humility allows him to admit readily that he may be "joining the thousands" who have been mistaken about this fascinating, apocalyptic book. He is also correct in noting, as I can tell you from my own experience, that "your agreement with [his] views is not required for you to find fulfillment in this book." (p.1) With painstaking detail, the author works through "Revelation," chapter by chapter, finding and discerning explanations for the often-confusing symbolism and numerology. With a sense of history, and concern for our future under God, he guides us to understand, at the least, that God is involved in all of our world affairs, outward appearances notwithstanding. Perhaps most controversial is the author's fascinating, unique conviction that the "sixth seal" will be opened this year, 1999, with a nuclear holocaust. Whether or not that actually happens, "When All Heaven Breaks Loose" will challenge you to see and think about things in a new way, and to remember the truth that the book of "Revelation," shows us the glory of Jesus, and that the bottom line is: Jesus wins.
