Book Description
I NY documents the street art that appeared in New York City in recent years. It offers an exciting look at an art form that is not simply graffiti and that has begun to appear in museums worldwide. The work created with paints, stencils, coloured tiles, stickers, wood, scissors and wheat paste demonstrates a high-calibre design sensibility and is often integrated into its environment in subversive and surprising ways.
Featuring examples by new talent as well as established names including Faile, Swoon, Bast and Rot Gut, I NY is a permanent time capsule of the constantly changing images that are as much a part of New York City as hot dog carts and Central Park.
This book contains approximately 500 photos lovingly taken and compiled by author and street artist Kelly Burns that capture the pure, unabashed and authority-defying expression of this art form.

Gorgeous Photography, The Definitive New York Street Art Book.......2005-12-04
I got the first pressing of this book (the one that Kelly Burns published himself a couple of years ago) before there were so many graffiti and street art books on the market. At the time, it was an awesome collection of works, but this new updated publication is an incredibly thorough and beautifully captured collection. It shows in Burns' work that he truly loves the art and is not just looking to jump on the latest trend. He leaves no wall unturned as he takes his readers off the beaten path to discover those preciously fleeting and inspiring works that may have existed for mere hours, as the is the nature of graff/street art. Artists like jet+rubble, Monster, Skewville, Momo, who lesser known, are given as much page-estate as the more prominent names represented--look for Neckface, Bast, Swoon, Kaws and London Police. Also new from the previous version, are some very cool artist portaits. Obviously, Burns has been able to connect with the people behind these works and gain their trust--a rarity in this underground artform. Burns is a gifted photographer who really captures the feeling of the street in his pictures. There is depth and energy I have not found in other graff/st.art imagery, which makes this book all the more exciting to look through. The only mystery to this book, which I consider a flaw, is that this updated edition has the same cover as the first edition, when in fact the contents are very different. If I had not been showing it to someone in a bookstore, I'd have never known. Regardless, I NY is awesome and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys, art, photography and the thrill of discovery.
The best free art in New York is NOT in the museums!.......2004-01-28
There are two types of New York art culture: The "high" (consisting of museums, operas, galleries, etc) and the "lowbrow" one (consisting of street culture, graffiti and stickers, illegal bits and bobs of visual stimuli provided by renegade artists). Most people are familiar with the former. It is the true New Yorkers who appreciate and understand the latter. "I NY" is a huge photographic collection of just that, which is called "Street Art": It's free. And it's fantastic.
Street art is not simply graffiti. Most of it is of quality caliber, excellent graphic design sense, and subversive in nature. I've walked down the street only to find a cute atari-esque alien creature composed of colored tiles, mounted on the base of a stairwell---like a peekaboo toy. Or a realist, acrylic-painted hummingbird floating over a decaying brick wall, providing a glorious trompe l'oeil. I'll be trudging home, and see a spray-painted cartoon face spanning the lid of a trash can--this spontaneous find is so cheerful. One can even discover elaborate, huge, meticulous paper-and-exacto-knife cutouts mounted on walls by SWOON (my fave street artist) that inspire nothing but awe and can make even the most jaded Wall Streeter stop in his or her tracks.
Street art not only sweetens the gritty surroundings of New York but provides you with a delicious nugget of free art that comes from pure, unabashed, authority-defying self-expression. The best part is that it's totally unexpected--and because of that, you feel like you've found a hidden treasure that just happens to brighten your day.
This book gets 4 stars because it's about time that someone compile a coffee-table worthy book on street art that doesn't consist of boring graffiti mural after graffiti mural. Congrats to Kelly Burns and collaborators for bringing this book to reality. However, to me it's a sampler/primer, because i've seen better examples of street art that were somehow missed, and there simply is just too much good stuff that can be crammed into one book. I'd suggest visiting www.woostercollective.com for a comprehensive look. Beautiful Decay is another magazine celebrating street art. If you don't live in NYC, then this book is a perfect souvenir. I highly recommend getting this book because it's permanent, and it's valued for the wide range of photographs which would be impossible to curate on your own.
I find most of my street art below 14th street in Manhattan, although it's everywhere. You just have to LOOK.

Book Description
To the trained eye, a single cut flower can be more revealing than witnessing a sword duel to the death. When Musashi is given a flower cut by master swordsman Yagyu Sekishusai, he realizes he must seek this man out. Musashi has the feeling that Sekishusai may turn out to be the greatest swordsman of them all.
Customer Reviews:
A manga for a legend.......2007-01-04
Takehiko Inoue continues on the same high level with this episode of the life of Musashi. Althoug it tends to be a little to long to tell the life of one of his main contenders(7 volumes). For as much interesting as Sasaki Kojiro's life could be, this is a story about Musashi. That's why I'm not giving a five star rating.
Even better than the First.......2006-09-23
Vagabond is about the journey of Takezo, a young man, future master swordsman, who is in search of purpose and meaning to his life. In the first book he thinks its to become the best swordsman by challenging and defeating the best in the world. Having experienced disillusionment about people, he meets a monk (You'll love this guy) who strives to teach Takezo the value of a person, beginning with the youth. Book 2 gives us more of Takezo's background as he desends into a bestial killing machine. Can the monk help Takezo save himself? No alone.
If you like Manga that does not romanticizes war or swordsman, Vagabond should peak your interest. The storytelling is excellent in the drawings, more so than the text. I would rank such adept skill in the same arena as Lone Wolf and Cub. LWC is the standard for balancing poetic story telling and showing the hardcore grit of life as a swordsman. The Vagabond sereis starts with a youth, a teen, not a man with a child. So Takezo maturity is not yet there. What drives him to succeed and overcome his past makes this series promising. The characters show a range of emotions in this manga, and the situations they deal with does an excellent job of targeting a mature audience. Takezo struggle for "his" truth becomes ours to learn from his journey about becoming complete.
Read each book like a wine, one delicious sip at a time, enjoy the flavors.
A manga reader.......2003-03-21
Vagabond is one of the few stories I have read that make me sweat with anticipation before flipping to the next page. The action becomes so intense you will feel bad you're flipping through the pages and missing the superb artwork in you're haste to discover the outcome of the last few pages. Overall the action is some of the best I have seen in the manga format.
A powerful story of one man's quest to become "invincible under the sun", Miyamoto Musashi drifts through the world questioning his one principle: his strength. A raging beast in battle, Musashi, only knows what it is to fight but gradually learns of the world beyond strength, blood and death throughout the course of his duels. Some fights take up entire volumes but they are well worth it.
The one negative aspect of Vagabond would have to be that not all the volumes are translated yet, and the reader might have to wait for the next volume to come out. Maybe the age-old story of "the quest" might seem cliché to some readers but if you can stomach it, Vagabond does its take on Musashi's journey in swordsmanship incredibly well.
I am not a Samurai buff, or even a big action fan but Vagabond's has me sold. I have read most (no lie) of the English translated manga you can find in America and easily place Vagabond right up there with Nausicaa, Maison Ikkou, GTO, Akira and Ghost in the Shell. I believe that all types of comic readers can appreciate Vagabond although shojo manga (girls comics) readers might be a little put off by all the blood and death.
A must have.
Follows the book! OUTSTANDING!!!.......2002-08-14
I just found out about these titles, bought and read them before I could throw out the box they came in. Being a martial artist and student of Iaido (Japanese sword drawing), I am very Familiar with the Musashi story. Yet these books (vol I & II ) are told from a fresh perspective that keeps you tuned in. I can't wait for the rest of the series to follow.
The artwork alone makes these books worth buying.
Also worth a look are the Lone Wolf and Cub Series...

Book Description
The fascinating story behind one of the most highly anticipated movies to come out of Hollywood in recent years.
Peter Weir's astonishing film brings Patrick O'Brian's world to life, complete with its swashbuckling adventures, brilliantly drawn characterization, romance, and intrigue. It is sure to captivate stalwart enthusiasts of O'Brian's work as well as draw in new fans everywhere. With unique access to the cast and crew, Tom McGregor traces the project, from the actors' boot camp to the filming in the Galapagos Islands and on board a replica ship (in the same studio where Titanic was filmed).
With exclusive photographs and interviews with key members of the cast, including Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind), and director Peter Weir (Dead Poets' Society, Green Card, The Truman Show), this book records the painstaking work of the crew and stars in making the film as historically accurate as possible, from replicating the uniforms of Nelson's navy to bringing the gun deck of the Surprise incredibly to life. Exclusive behind-the-scenes insight and information on the history of the project are dazzlingly showcased in this unique companion, featuring the same high production standards and imagination as the film itself. 200 color photographs.
Customer Reviews:
Can't Stop Reading It!.......2007-03-20
My dad loves Master and Commander (and so do I), so I got him this book for Christmas. He loves it and said it was his favorite present this year! He says he's also reading the books by Patrick O'Brian (the author of the books that inspired this movie) and he said he sometimes goes back to this book for reference after reading the novels.
This book is divided into sections - stuff about the crew, the doctor, the captain, etc. It has quotes from the actors and stuff about the novels and the author.
Well, all I can say is my dad loves this book and is still looking at it from Christmas and I look at it all I can. If you love the Master and Commander movie, you'll love this book!
A Fan's Dream Come True!!!.......2006-06-26
If you love the O'Brian series and the movie, this book is not only full of colour photos but also contains much information about the movie and its actors. Any interested in the 19th century British Royal Navy will find it intersting, also. A great book!!!
An excellent look behind the scenes.......2005-11-18
I'm a great fan of O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin novels and of Napoleonic era naval fiction in general, and I looked forward to this film with a certain apprehension. I mean, how could they possibly do justice to O'Brian's extremely detailed world? Would they just crank out a superficial action film? I'm not sure any devotée was entirely pleased with the result, but it was, in fact, a pretty damn good movie. And all the background information and photos in this book help explain why. Peter Weir, the director, was a fanatic on accurate historical detail, including small items you never see on camera (but the crew knows they're there). He kept the entire cast together for the full five months of filming at the big tank in Baja, the same way a ship's crew would be together every day of their lives. And he instituted hierarchy (with Russell Crowe at the top, naturally) even during the "boot camp" phase at the beginning of the project. And on and on. A fascinating look behind the scenes and into the minds of all the people responsible for the film. I winced every time they talked about the "cannon," though.

The only game in town.......2007-09-20
Overall, this is a great guide for the price. They cover everything in the game with their walkthrough, as well as the bonus game. I would have been willing to pay for more content though. This guide won't help you get an S rank, you'll have to figure out what stuff to skip in order to do that.

This strategy guide really helps you through the game, especially when you start solving the puzzles. I really like the pictures of the monsters that you defeat in the game also.

Not the greatest..........2003-06-14
I actually never needed this guide much. The explanations were a little confusing, and it made me wanna sell my game (which I did). Want my honest opinion? Look for some online guides. It's free and will do better.
one of the best guides prima has to offer.......2003-05-21
This guide is the only guide that I've read that has everything a guide should have. It has an enemy, weapon, item and character index and it doesn't give away the ending of the game. It tells you what herbs to mix and the result of mixing them. It tells you where to find the weapons and their ammo. The maps are also very well done. They tell you where to find herbs, weapons/ammo, and save points. This guide also tells you what attacks the enemies have and it gives you strategies for defeating each monster. The only thing that they didn't have was a map for Evil Claire in the minigame you get to play after you beat the game(can't remember name of minigame).
useful guide.......2002-07-28
I would get this guide if you are stuck on some parts. It has lots of cool information like weapons and items. It also has a sealed secret section. It is a complete stradagy guide
Helpful as far as Walkthroughs go, Terrible Errors though.......2002-07-20
Good Guide with terrible misconceptions about certain things in the game.
The best guide ever.......2002-04-19
In this guide I found my dream book. it has everything I could possibly want, Weapons, enemy list and absolutely NO major plot spoiles!! I would recommend this book to anyone who has the game!!
