Product Description
Finally, after 175 years of doubt and speculations, this new book, the first in a series, unveils the best kept secrets from the world concerning the real cause of racism between the Anglos and the people of African lineage! Many people, from scriptural scholars, to average members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to simple critics everywhere, have wondered why the Mormon Priesthood was withheld from people of African lineage from 1830 to 1978. Some people consider the Mormon Prophets racists while others think they were politically motivated. To others the answers go much deeper. Could this new book, 'A Son of Ham under the Covenant', hold the long sought answers to this common question? Among numerous Latter-day Saints worldwide and of different ethnic background, Thurl Bailey, an African American of remarkable accomplishment, N.B.A. Athlete, Inspirational Speaker & Entertainer, strongly believes this book answers his questions. He says 'There were ... many questions that I desired from the Lord an answer to. The Lords promise to me was that if I trusted in Him, He would make all things clear to me in time. Maybe not all today, or maybe not even when I desired, but in time! I believe Luckner that this book was written as part of that promise. Thank you for the work you have done for Our Father and his faithful servants.' Perhaps for the first time in the entire history of the Church, Luckner Huggins has given a positive response, based on scriptural evidences as to some of the real reasons the people of African lineage waited so long for Priesthood inclusion. Presented as a novel, this first book explores the roots of voodoo in Haiti, the authors birth place. It was during his exploration that he also found the connection between voodoo and the exclusion of his African ancestor in LDS Churchs Priesthood.
Customer Reviews:
Very insightful and resourful book by Huggins .......2006-07-25
Huggins' book, "A Son of Ham Under the Convenant," is very insightful and resourful. Above all, it reflects how painstakingly the author has sought after the answers to the quest of his own lineage and the misconceptions around it that have permeated for centuries. His dedication to and insights on the subject paid off. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and am anxiously waiting for more works from him. Great work, Huggins!!!
A Postive review by someone who has read the book!.......2006-04-01
Thank you Mr. Huggins for your wonderful book "A Son of Ham". This topic has interested me for many years. I have been a member of the LDS Church my whole life, and I always believed and was taught in the LDS Church, that our Father in Heaven loves all his children no matter what color we may be. I never quite understood why the priesthood was withheld from brothers of color. Your book has finally answered many of the questions that I have had.
I love the way your book was able to take me into a culture I didn't understand, in a very vivid and personal way. Luke's journey through faith without have all the answers made me reevalute my own belief and convictions. I now have even more respect for families in the church around the world that were faithful members with out the power of priesthood.
For those misguided people who judge without having read your book, as well as those who misunderstand the way the Lord speaks to His prophets, I offer a prayer for you. Faith is believing that the Lord knows what is best for us. He has never been wrong. He knows when we are ready to accept the next blessing He has for us. And the Lord will not allow His prophets to misguide us.
Thank you Mr. Huggins for your thoughtful and obviously very personal book.
Huggins ought to be ashamed...........2006-03-27
As a conscientious return Mormon missionary, I too spent many years trying to find the answer to the questions I got asked 1,000 times on my mission and as a teacher in the LDS church, "Why did the Mormon church discriminated against blacks for most of its history, by not only denying them blessings of the priesthood, but also denying them access to the same privilages as the white majority, like entry into the temple, considered to be the most exclusive privilage of Mormonism?"
So it was with great curiosity that I read the review of your book @ http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/03-22-2006/0004325021&EDATE=
which claims,
"Perhaps for the first time in the Church's entire history, Luckner Huggins offers a positive response, based on scriptural evidences as to the real reasons the people of African lineage waited so long for Priesthood inclusion."
I read everything you've published and your website about the topic.
I cannot discern your response from your introduction or the excerpts you published on line.
I could tell that you rejected the idea that past leaders have been racist and you reject the idea that blacks were discriminated against by the Mormon church based upon politics.
You must be aware of the fact that Elijah Abel, a freed slave was given the priesthood by Joseph Smith, which I did not see referenced in the material on your website. If there were scriptural reasons for denying blacks the priesthood, why didn't this prevent Joseph Smith from giving people like Elijah Abel the priesthood.
The most obvious explanation it seems to me after years of studying the issue is that JS incorporated 19th Century racist attitudes into the book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price, along with many other anachronistic 19th Century ideas that are painfully obvious in the 21st Century.
The "Curse of Cain" or "Curse of Ham" myth was a popular myth used in the 19th Century to justify slavery.
As a man of African descent, I would be very concerned about justifying institutionalized racism within Mormonism and blaming my race for racism directed at my race and even for my ancestors being enslaved.
Isn't that sort of like blaming the victim of abuse instead of demanding justice from the perpetrator of the abuse?
Doesn't it relieve the pressure on the institution to de-institutionalize racism when authors like you deflect criticism from the Mormon church and turn it instead on your own race?
I've got news for you as a former white member of the church, behind closed doors, white Mormons continue to indoctrinate the next generation with extreamly racist, hatefull, dehumanizing, archaic, barbaric, myths, which is the main reason I resigned, since I cannot in good conscience remain silent as I see people indoctrinating my children with racist myths that totally contradict the most basic commandment of Christ, to love our fellow man as ourselves.
That is the most important part of the gospel. Whatever contradicts it should be rejected out of hand.
Huggin's justification for Mormon hatefullness against his own race, is even more appaling than the old racism itself, since they didn't know any better, even though they should have.
Huggins doesn't have that excuse.
A simply beautiful book.......2006-03-23
"A Son of Ham Under the Covenant", by Luckner Huggins is a simply beautiful book. It deals with the reasons behind the LDS Church withholding the Priesthood from members of African descent until 1978. I have struggled with this issue for many years, as have many other members, and this book helped clarify the reasons in a way that no other book has. I have several friends who are of African lineage and faithful members of the Church, who have also been searching for answers about this issue. The author does an excellent job of distilling a complex issue into clear and easy to digest facts. It definitely gave me a new perspective!

Book Description
In a career that spanned six decades and more than sixty films, Alfred Hitchcock became the most widely recognized director who ever lived. His films -- including
The 39 Steps,
Notorious,
Rear Window,
Vertigo,
Psycho, and
The Birds -- set new standards for cinematic invention and storytelling élan. Since his death, Hitchcock has become crystallized in the public imagination as the macabre Englishman, the sexual obsessive, the Master of Suspense. But this remarkable biography draws on prodigious new research to restore Hitchcock the man -- the ingenious craftsman, the avid collaborator, the constant trickster, provocateur, and romantic. Like Hitchcock's best films, Patrick McGilligan's life of Hitchcock is a drama full of revelation, graced by a central love story, dark humor, and cliff-hanging suspense: a definitive portrait of the most creative, and least understood, figure in film history.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent biography of "The Master".......2007-03-30
An excellent, straightforward telling of Hitchcock's life and career.
What a remarkable life Hitchcock had. He lived to make movies and achieved commercial and (eventually) critical success - while developing his own distinctive style. Now considered by many to be the greatest film director of all time.
Hitchcock was not only a great film-maker but also a master self-publicist and a man with many hangups. If you are interested in Hitchcock, then this book will not disappoint.
Simply The Best.......2006-11-12
This is simply one of the best biographys I have read in a long time. Incredible detail about the world of Alfred Hitchcock and his movies. The book is packed full of information and their are no lulls in the story of Hitch at all. From Blackmail, The 39 Steps, Rebecca, Rear Window, NbNW, and Frenzy you get all the information about Alfred Hitchcocks triumphs and the story behind them. A definate read for *any* fan of movies and how they are made. McGilligan has written a book that is worth at least 3 reads to absorb all the information.
Best ever Biography?.......2006-11-03
This has to rank as one of the best biographies of a film maker ever written. Rich in detail, both personal as well as professional, the book is a joy to read, sending me happily back to my collection of Hitch's movies for yet another look, but with eyes opened wider than ever before. A book I shall treasure forever.
Tons of Information.......2006-08-11
The author of this book did not forget one tiny detail. Everything you ever wanted to know about Alfred Hitchcock, personally or professionally, is in this book. It is highly recommended.
Best entry into the world of Hitch bios.......2005-10-02
McGilligan's Alfred Hitchcock : A Life in Darkness and Light is not a "tell all the dirty secrets" biography, but rather a serious attempt to examine the man and his life, filling in the pieces through interviews, letters and published writings. That very much works in its favor. While other bios have often focused on the "dark" side of the Master of Suspense, painting a portrait of a disturbed man, McGilligan's work is more measured. We see the darkness, but we also see the light. There are some "tell all" moments that show Hitchcock's strange/dark side, but they don't come across as too gossipy.
The pacing is a bit off - the initial chapters, for instance, spend far too much time dealing with a handful of short stories he wrote for publication prior to his film career - but the writing is good, and more detail is gone into on the state of Hitchcock's life during each individual film than any other bio. It's a really strong look into his life AND his films.
For film lovers, the looks at how Hitch handled direction and his inventiveness are especially a joy to read. You get a very strong insight into how the master worked, which made me appreciate his films all the more.
This bio is very long, but also very comprehensive. Highly reocmmended.

Customer Reviews:
Discography of BritPunk Explosion.......2002-08-01
Okay, it seems insipid to say, but definitely read the intro to the book first; if you don't, you may be disappointed. Mr. Thompson filled his book with British bands from 1976-78 only, so it's limited in that way. The book is the size and shape of a double-cd and is basically just a discography of as many bands as he could list from that period. Included with his discography is a band line-up (including changes) and on some of the less-obscure bands a sentence or two about the band and its members. [oh, and for the reviewer who commented on the lack of Crass, which I noticed as well, it's because Crass didn't show up on the recording scene until 1979---I imagine he'll put them in a 'volume two'.]
I think this book is great for record collectors as a sort of checklist, but it's not definitive (how could he have missed listing Warsaw?). This book is not one that you could read for information beyond record listings, but I recommend the "Punk" book in the "20th Century Rock and Roll" series (which is also written by Dave Thompson) for that. That book has more detailed information about the bigger bands in this book, and together they make a more complete picture for someone exploring the early British punk scene.
[Or, better yet, find yourself a copy of George Gilmarc's "Punk Diary".]
Educated and in depth.......2001-01-23
Just so people don't get the wrong idea. This book includes the majority of punk/indie bands from England. If you're looking for any American bands DO NOT buy this book. But on to the review... This book has virtually every band to come out of England during the blast of the first punk rock wave. A very thorough and in depth look and almost every release from 1976 to 1981, I think. For some reason they left out the ever important CRASS bands. Like Crass, Rudimentary Peni, etc. Other than that this is a great way to find out about hard to find records.
not bad ,a insightful look at a wild time.......1999-03-23
the book is cool, even better is "High On Rebellion; Inside the Underground at Max's Kansas City" by Yvonne Sewell Ruskin, loaded with NY Dolls/Johnny Thunders,Psychotic Frogs,Jayne County, Cherry Vanilla, etc THE REAL SCENE! YEAH!
A seemingly vast undertaking made simple and useful........1998-07-05
A collector's guide to punk is a huge undertaking, but Dave Thompson pulled it off. He made this book "Part One".
"To be included in this book, a band needed to be actively recording (for radio or record) during the period 1976-1978," he wrote. He focused on the UK. By allowing himself to work within these parameters, Thompson made the book an easier read, as well as saving himself a lot of work.
Thompson makes some outstanding points in his introduction that explain his take on the scene, and he invites readers to argue and "write the publisher long, well-reasoned letters about how 'x' should not have been included, while 'y' was a ghastly omission." Thompson acknowledges that punk is different to everyone.
Meanwhile, the rest of the book includes useful information for collectors including descriptions of UK singles, UK albums, UK radio sessions and a fantastic label guide. He even lists the chart position of the releases at the end of each section. I can't imagine the amount of work that went into this book, and I recommend it highly.
The book is designed to look like a double CD set, so it fits nicely in most CD racks. A fun extra.

Bought this book if you want finish the game.......2007-08-24
My wife was trapped in the last stage of this game. She had finished it only with the information contained in this magazine.
I think price is a little expensive, but if you want finish it, you should pay for it.
A must have item.......2006-03-18
I bought the game first and tried playing it on my own. While it was fun it is not like the pacman games I'm used to playing. It wasn't long before I got stuck, and that is when I purchased this guide. this is an excellent guide because it doesn't give you cheats, and ruien the game experience, but it dose walk you through what to do, where things are, and how to use the different features of the game. I have still not gotten to the end, but I'm enjoying myself now, instead of being frustrated.
Pac-Man World 3 Guide.......2006-03-17
This guidehas good text but poor graphics. It is however still useful.Hints within the game play are also very helpful.
Brady Games.......2006-02-01
The Pac Man World 3 guide is a great way to get through the tough spots and to make sure you didn't miss anything. My only complaint with this product is that some of the screen shots are pretty small and hard to see much detail. But, I wouldn't hesitate to order another guide from Brady Games in the future.

Plenty of help!.......2000-01-19
I found this guide to be incredibly informative, and a ton of help. I just received a PlayStation for Christmas, and Pac-Man was my first video game for it. I'll admit, I'm not terrible familiar with video games in general. This guide walked me through the game (and yes, even told me where the fruits were). Isn't that what these guides are supposed to do? Overall I thought this books was great!
No Strategies in Pac-Man world strategy guide.......2000-01-05
I bought this book thinking it would help me figure out an easier way to play the game and win - that's what strategies are all about. This book did not tell me anything that I couldn't figure out from playing the game. There were no helpful strategies such as where to find fruits or how to beat Toc-Man when you finally got to the end, just basically a book full of the scenery Pac-Man goes through. The only part of this book I found helpful was going through one under water world. I would not recommend this guide to anyone - just play the game and you will figure everything out for free!
Customer Reviews:

Book Description
The New Labour government is attempting to liberalize and deregulate British television to meet the needs of a digital future. Its policies are set to transform the environment in which both public service and commercial broadcasters currently operate. This activity appears to stand in stark contrast to the Labour Party's former opposition to a commercial television system and its indifference towards innovations in the field of electronic media. With the exception of the Open University, the party has not been directly associated with any of the major developments in broadcasting, all of which have occurred under Conservative administrations.
By drawing on extensive archive material and interviews with key participants, the author argues that Labour has intervened in all the main debates concerning British broadcasting and has produced a wide range of proposals for the reform, modernization and consolidation of television structures in the UK.
The book examines the party's divided response to the development of commercial television in the 1950s and assesses the impact of Harold Wilson's governments on television in the 1960s. It concludes with an evaluation of the role of television in the emergence of New Labour and a critique of the Blair government's record concerning television developments, the book suggests that Labour has been a vigorous but ultimately unreliable advocate of television reform.
