So, has this book been released or not? The original release date was like 6 weeks ago, but Amazon still isn't shipping. Anyone know?

WORTH EVERY PENNY AND MORE........2006-03-06

First off let me say that I wish you good luck if your ordering this book through Amazon. But, if they are somehow REALLY able to get it, you'll be amazed at its content. T-KID is a legendary style master, and if you didn't know that, you're a toy.

The stories are so vivid that you can smell the paint, and sometimes, the gun powder. And of course the art is fantastic. Tons of old school flicks to new school digitals. This blows many of the recent graff books off the "MTA map". If you own the COPE2 book than you've got an idea of how fresh this joint is.

A Book of Beautiful Artwork.......2005-08-01

I first came to know Eric Dinyer when I reviewed another book he illustrated. I raved about his work and he sent me a note. Since then we have collaborated on several projects including this one. I tell readers this so they will know I am not wholly objective!

Having said that, this is an exquiste gift book. It is not meant to convince or educate. It is an inspiration. It is beyond me how Dinyer's photographs would not reach out and touch anyone interested in yoga or anyone considering it as a path for growth.

The entire book was designed by Dinyer. The cutout in the cover is a touch that makes this a proud presentation for an inexpensive birthday or holiday gift.

Effort and Surrender is an inspirational book for yoga enthusiasts. This book contains beautifully artist photographs of the various yoga poses. These illustrations create an inspiring and artful feel to the book. Accompanying each picture is a short bit of text. The topics and authors of these texts vary. Some of the blurbs are short poems or thoughts about yoga or about inspiration for life. Other pieces include advice about life and yoga from masters, teachers, and religious gurus. Pointless, why bother?.......2006-04-13

Why buy an expensive book about anime when you can experience anime on television or read about it online.
This book doesn't have any new insights on the subject so I'll say again why bother?

An interesting historical document for U.S. anime fans.......2006-04-05

The essays collected in this book offer a fascinating glimpse into the history of anime fandom in the U.S. People who assume that the anime/manga phenomenon is a recent development will be interested to read about how much effort was required, over a long period of time, before the U.S. market became receptive to these "exotic" forms of media. This book also contains the best presentation and analysis of the Lion King/Kimba controversy that I have seen, and that alone is worth the purchase price.

It's a shame more anime and manga fans don't buy this book!.......2006-01-15

To be honest with my title, had I seen this in a bookstore, I probably would have passed. Essays and collected reviews from one person too often give you a slanted point of view, and often not much real information. I like history, and that was the big selling point on this book for me. Too often we buy what's popular, what we know (are exposed to), or from listening to the suggestions of our friends. I'm not speaking of this book purchase now, but of the act of collection, reading, and watching of anime. It's really nice to know the history behind it.

By rights, maybe this book should be four stars instead of five, but I couldn't resist because it filled in a point of interest for me I've wondered about for years. I wrote an Amazon review a few years ago on the anime classic, Spirited Away. In the review I compared the movie to a life changing animated film I had seen as a boy. I've never been able to recall the name, and because of the era, I thought it American or perhaps a Chinese production. I've always looked for it to show up on TV, or in video, hoping I'd recognize the title or the plot. I knew little more than the type of film, plot, and name of the main character.

My dad took me to the film, and I thought it must have been because he was interested in its philosophy. My dad had visited China, and India during WWII as a Cryptographer. After the war, he brought home some items from China, and a good deal of Eastern Philosophy. What I didn't realize is that the movie he took me too, was in reality one of the earliest anime shown in the United States. It was a dubbed film called Magic Boy, that was shown in a limited release in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in June of 1961. Strangely enough, it was another limited release anime, Princess Mononoke, that sparked me to begin collecting anime and manga in 1999. Little did I know that my childhood had been influenced greatly by the earliest film of the anime genre to hit the US. Perhaps I was destined to become an anime lover!

My point here is that this book helped me find out that fact. When I read in the book about the early anime films, I suddenly realized they were from the era when I saw that film. There were three titles, released in the US about then. I looked up the pictures, plots from the web, and got a dead-on match with the film, Magic Boy! As I've read further in this book I find more things I knew little about, milestones that brought about the popularity of anime and manga. As a kind of a time-line, (based on the dates of the articles collected in the book) you can see the growth of anime and manga in the US. You can see as well why there is still a great deal of resistance to it's becoming mainstream, even today.

Just to speak to that issue, inject a little of my own philosophy to a theme expressed in many of the books articles. The answer I speak of is that viewing anime, and reading manga, is justified by the main reason many avoid it. It's new, and its different! While many anime and manga are generic SciFi or Fantasy, often they contain elements of the Japanese culture. If you've watched one too many episodes of some reality show, the same rehashed episode of a sitcom for the 50th time ,you know you too long for something new. Despite cultural differences, most anime stories are easy enough to relate to, we're all humans and many of our goals are the same regardless of culture.

One more thing on the book, this is a good read to put somewhere (you know where I mean) to read in small bursts, periodically. Since it's a collection of anime reviews and small articles, you can read one or two at a time, and pick it back up later. It's not a book you have to read in long sittings.

One of the Best!.......2005-02-08

Brazilian rhythms are hot right now in the music world. From Jazz to Pop, Brazilian influence is taking over. I have particulary always enjoyed Samba and Carnaval rhythms which are two stlyes included in this book. Also included are hand rhythms and sacred/spiritual rhythms which have added an amazing new flavor to my music. The book comes complete with a glossary of Portuguese terms which is essential when studying more about these incredibles beats from Brazil. With the help of the CD I have been able to witness my technique and ability to play Brazilian rhythms increase. Alberto Netto is brilliant, and I can not say enough about this book. It's definitely worth every penny.

I have been doing cryptoquotes for awhile now and this book was great! I am someone who does not like any hints. I keep going until I get it! I recommend this book to anyone who is an avid "cryptoquoter"

Another Good Cryptogram Book.......2006-04-09

I've been doing the cryptograms in this book on & off for quite a while now. I tend to go from one type of puzzle to another - enjoying each type for a month or two, and then moving on to something else. For the last several months, I have been engrossed with Sudoku puzzles (a numbers/logic puzzle), and have only recently moved back to doing cryptograms again...

So, I got out all of my cryptogram books, dusted them off, and jumped right into the fun of decoding again (smile). I had forgotten just how much fun (and sometimes frustrating) cryptograms can be!

"Cryptogram-A-Day Book" is filled with puzzles that, when solved, reveal an interesting quotation, as well as the person known for creating it. It's arranged by date - with one puzzle for each day of the year. It appears that the author's intention was that us cryptogram-lovers would do just 1 of these puzzles per day... However, for me, I just dig right in, and do as many as my spirit moves me to do.

The only reason I gave this book 4 starts instead of 5 is because there are no hints in the back - all you get is the full solution. And, if you're anything like me, your eyes wander and you wind up seeing more of the answer than you wanted. I've become accustomed to the books that offer you 1 or 2 different hints that you can use if you become stuck, before having to go to the full solution.

Overall, I think this is a good cryptogram book, and I really like the fact that many of the solutions are quotes that are inspiring, or lead one to ponder. So, if you enjoy cryptograms, I recommend you give this book a try.

I was VERY DISAPPOINTED in the the Cryptogram-a-Day Book. It did not have the hint letter to start the puzzle off.

I've been a fan of cryptograms since I stumbled across them in my local newspaper - this book is a great collection and a good way to occupy your time and mind whenever you're bored or just feel the need to solve something! I really liked it because the cryptograms are for the most part lovely quotes by many famous people - you'll be treasuring the quotes long after you've solved the puzzle. The only thing about this book is that - the title isn't true - once you buy it you won't be able to limit yourself to just one cryptogram a day, that's for sure! Definitely a great catch and one to look into.

can't be done while brain is farting..........1998-11-25

If you like puzzles but you can't stand those complicated New York Times crossword puzzles that only my dad can descipher, then pick up this book and treat yourself to something different. Use your intuition and the math-oriented parts of your brain (which are closely related) to figure out the sayings and who said them. Have fun. If you don't like them, just go back to the New York Times and send me the answers. :)

People sometimes ask me "Why do you care so much about Hollyoaks?". My reply to them is always passionate "..because it is the most god-awful, rotting mound of offal; showcasing the talentless mumblings of vacant, hired-purely-for-their-looks imbeciles, in a ridiculously guff, failed-indie-film-maker style!..." I'll often continue for 40 minutes or more on how stupifyingly naff it truly is.

To find out that they are now inflicting this dross (albeit in book form) on the unsuspecting people of North America, I was overcome with anger, pity, frustration and general self-loathing.

In summary: I'm not a fan.

BRILLIANT!!
This book shows an excellent portrayal of a normal teenage boy being put through a terrible ordeal. showing how the character Luke Morgan feels after his ordeal, some of the feelings he felt towards himself made me cry, however emotional the book is it also has a few humerous moments that will make you laugh.I couldn't put the book down and red it within one night. this book is great for any mad hollyoaks fan will love, but even if you dont watch hollyoaks if you read it you would be surpirsed at how much you will come to love the character. it really helps you to understand what goes on inside his mind.
Great read and one which shoul definitely be considered
