Only buy this if you are FORCED to.......2006-02-28
I'm a student taking a color class at my local junior college and this is the required text. This book is the most awkward book I've ever read. The authors continually repeat themselves and ramble on about nonsense. The authors actually have the exact same sentences repeated within a chapter. This book is poorly written and poorly edited; there are misspellings, and incorrect information! While discussing complementary color schemes, the authors explain that complementary schemes involve colors directly opposite on the color wheel. Then they list the following examples "red-green", "blue-yellow", and "orange-violet". These exampes are INCORRECT. Blue and orange are complements, as are yellow and violet. If the author can't get such a simple statement correct, it seriously comprimises the rest of the text. In short, this book is simply the most awkward, frustrating book I've ever read. Please please please, spare your sanity and buy another book on color.
Really poor.......2005-12-14
This was a required textbook for a color course at Colorado State and was truly a poor choice. The content was overly generalized and sometimes simplified to the point of being meaningless. At other times, it was simply wrong. Comments on the cultural significance of specific colors were often inappropriate or perhaps the product of careless or stereotypical thinking. For example, there is an assertion that all Buddhist monks always wear yellow robes dyed with saffron because yellow is such an important color in that culture. (That culture? Buddhism is the dominant religion in multiple countries throughout Asia. Are they all to be lumped into one inaccurate stereotype?) My own travels tell me that only Thai Buddhist monks wear yellow robes dyed with tumeric (saffron is far too expensive for monks to use as dye!). In Burma and Tibet, Buddhist monks wear maroon robes and in Japan, indigo or black sometimes mixed with white. Because of these kinds of identifiable inaccuracies and the general tone of simplistic sweeping assertions, I doubted the content that I couldn't verify by my own experience and found the book worse than useless. There are so many other books available on color, why choose one as poor as this?
Book.......2005-10-03
The book was in fairly good condition. But ,I paid to have it shipped in two days, It didn't come for 2 weeks!!
Fabulous Book!.......2000-12-10
This is the best book on color I've ever found. It gives a really comprehensive overview of how color affects your entire life. If you want to redecorate your home, or influence people by how you dress, or learn how to use color to make your life healthier you absolutely must read this book. Color: The Secret Influence really goes way beyond anything I've ever read about color before in showing how it totally affects our lives. It clearly states that the serious study of color is in its beginning stages but it also gives an amazing amount of information that anyone can use today, right now to make their lives better. You've gotta read this book!
Disappointed.......2000-12-04
This book is like Reader's Digest. It trys to cover too much subject matter and winds up turning into a survey. It says a little about a lot. I returned it.

Book Description
Bad habits, bad attitudes, bad breath. With a weakness for bad outfits and having bad hair days. Dogs are no less bad than cats, so it was only a matter of time before, emboldened by the runaway success of
Bad Cat, the #1
New York Times bestseller with 487,000 copies in print, dogs would be begging for the chance to speak out. Dogs like:
Trixie, the puppy eating her own foot, who says: “If you’re wondering, it tastes like chicken.” Or the aging
Sam, eyes popping out of his head and granny glasses askew: “Sweet mother of mercy—the Viagra’s working!” Or
Tasia, a big mutt forced to wear little Santa hats, who snarls: “ I’d like to roast your chestnuts on an open fire.” There’s
Dallas the surly yoga instructor. The old letch
Samson, half-mastiff and half-slobber.
Barley of the Order of the Vested Shih Tzus. Devil-worshipping
Penny. Friend of sailors
Miz Skeeter Bug. And
Charlie, whose words should be heeded by every owner who thinks it’s cute to dress up the family pet: “Listen to me! I am not a bird. I am not a plane. I’m just your dog, Charlie.” In the same format as
Bad Cat, with 244 truly funny photographs (including a number of group portraits), plus name, age, hobby, and candid quote.

great gift.......2007-08-18
i bought this for a dog lover as a fun birthday present, and its a very funny book. she leaves it on the coffee table and everyone always has to flip through it and get a laugh
Guaranteed Giggles.......2007-07-30
I have bought several of these and several of the ones with cats(my favorite). These are great stocking stuffers or just for someone who needs a laugh!! I only wish I had been there when they were doing the verbiage!!!!
Don't be fooled!.......2007-07-19
The cover shows a cute, silly picture of a dog. I was expecting greeting card type goofy pictures and captions. The pictures were okay, the captions were tasteless, sick and far from funny. What a waste.
Bad Dog! Good Book! .......2007-06-09
I also have the Bad Cat book, which I think is hysterical. I wasn't disappointed with this one either!! I don't know if it's my sense of humor, because others I have shown it to don't seem to get it (LOL) but most of them think it's really funny. I have bought copies for a few friends and they love it!
Yes it's staged but it's HILARIOUS.......2007-04-11
I laugh so hard I cry at most of these photos and captions. This kind of stuff is my guilty pleasure. Even when this book is in the bathroom, a casual flip through makes me laugh. If you like dogs and their wacky antics, get this book.

I agree...useless.......2007-04-20
if you don't believe try doing the exercise on page 316, you won't get past step 4. It's like they left out a few steps to the exercise.
Very thorough index & easy to use Table of Contents........2005-07-19
A previous reviewer stated that this book is 'useless'. To prove her point she said the following regarding one of this books instructions: "For example, an instruction would say: Click Actions>>Movie Control and then double-click "goto". Sounds simple, except there is no Actions>>Movie Control>>goto. I don't understand how an entire book could be published with so much improper information."
That woman just trashed this book. It just doesn't seem fair to me. I don't know about you but to me it seems plain mean and stupid. Like she's blaming the book for her own shortcomings. Maybe she is and maybe she isn't but in reading a technical book (even one for dummies) some common sense and critical thinking on the readers part must be assumed.
Do you know how to use an index? I do. And consequently I know where the Actions panel is. It's conveniently located with all the other panels under the "Window" menu. If you don't believe me just look it up for yourself. In this books 19-page index. Where it's listed 16 times. Or a quick look at the Table of Contents tells me that on page 32 I'll find information on "Navigating the Actions Panel" and "Opening an Actions book".
Now I know what you're thinking. That's rocket science there and I must be some kind of genius. Well, it's not rocket science and, sorry to say, I'm no genius. It's just a little common sense and a willingness to take responsibility for my part of the learning process.
In case you're wondering, I don't know the author. I wish I did. I was just looking for a good beginner's ActionScript book and came across this one. In deciding on whether or not to buy a book I'll look at the Table of Contents and the Index. Maybe you do too. I guess that's why Amazon lists them. They both seem pretty thorough to me in this book.
Useless.......2005-06-17
ActionScript is the key to doing cool stuff with Flash, but the key this book provides doesn't fit the lock. For example, an instruction would say: Click Actions>>Movie Control and then double-click 'goto'. Sounds simple, except there is no Actions>>Movie Control>>goto. I don't understand how an entire book could be published with so much improper information.
Book Description
Our sense that a waltz is "in three" or a blues song is "in four with a shuffle" comes from our sense of musical meter. Hearing in Time explores musical meter from the point of view of cognitive theories of perception and attention. London explores how our ability to follow musical meter is simply a specific instance of our more general ability to synchronize our attention to regularly recurring events in our environment. As such, musical meter is subject to a number of fundamental perceptual and cognitive constraints, which form the cornerstones of London's account. Because listening to music, like many other rhythmic activities, is something that we often do, London views it as a skilled activity for performers and non-performers alike. Hearing in Time approaches musical meter in the context of music as it is actually performed, rather than as a theoretical ideal. Its approach is not based on any particular musical style or cultural practice, so it uses familiar examples from a broad range of music--Beethoven and Bach to Brubeck and Ghanaian drumming. Taking this broad approach brings out a number of fundamental similarities between a variety of different metric phenomena, such as the difference between so-called simple versus complex or additive meters. Because of its accessible style--only a modest ability to read a musical score is presumed--Hearing in Time is for anyone interested in rhythm and meter, including cognitive psychologists, musicologists, musicians, and music theorists.

Review of Pocket Guide to Bridge.......2007-01-05
This portable booklet is a very useful & convenient summary of bidding essentials & other information for quick reference.
Excellent Introduction to Bridge!.......2003-04-22
This is a book that really lives up to its billing as a pocket-sized yet thorough introduction to bridge. The only beef with this book is that most of it is devoted to bidding, with a tiny portion at the end for play and defence. I expect the authors to issue a sequel on play and defense. That aside the material itself is outstanding and clear, and at a surprisingly good level of bridge for an introductory book. I would definitely recommend it as a handy reference for someone starting out in bridge.
