An excellent book to stir a world-weary soul!.......1999-11-16
"In The Midst Of Chaos, Peace," is a reminder of the gentle, yet strong spirit of an ever-present God, who still lives and breathes beneath a world in turmoil and values gone haywire! It is a beautiful blending of three enormous talents that fit together well, to create a masterpiece of lyric and "visual music," that will stir the soul at every reading! One wonders how any human could create such beauty with paper, and sissors, and endless patience and faith. And Sr. Wendy's words fit perfectly, making this an unforgettable book for all ages!
A revelation ...........1999-10-13
Dan Paulos creates silhouettes of peace. Discreetly, they whisper a message of pure giving, secret gardens of joy, and radiant blessings. Indeed, where art becomes an exercise in prayer, only there is truly sacred art. The humble papercutting artist of Albuquerque and friend of the late Sister Mary Jean Dorcy gives beauty an old-new name, that of selflessness, source of peace.
This is a peaceful work........1999-10-13
CHAOS exists only in the title of this book. It is childlike in it simplicity and deeply devout. May it bring peace.
Only a blessing!.......1999-10-13
The silhouette has always held an enigmatic place in the history of art. This collection of papercuts beautifully displays that mystery, and Sister Wendy Beckett's unique commentary adds the necessary strength of the Gospel.
This book is a must........1999-10-13
This work pleasures the eye, warms the heart and elevates the soul. It is a successful blend of three talents that will never fail to delight and inspire.

Breathtaking.......1999-06-13
Golman captures the visions, dynamics and momentum of the people involved in filmaking- from the director to the teamsters. The sheer beauty of the images and the technical ability of the photographer are exquisite. The publisher should REPRINT THE BOOK!!!!!
Book Description
Just in time for cold and flu season comes this fun, funny and imminently practical guide to the fine art of germ avoidance. Admit it, you either are one or you know one: a person who prefers the scent of Purell to perfume, hates public restroom toilets and pushes elevator buttons with their elbow. In a word (well, two), a Germ Freak. Well guess whattheyre right! In the bestselling tradition of the The Paranoid's Pocket Guide and The Worst Case Scenario Handbook, Allison Jansea committed Germ Freakgives readers the lowdown on how to avoid the common cold and survive flu season with your health and sanity intact. This is the practical information your doctor wont give you (they always say not to worry and may be giving you the latest bug by not washing their hands when they examine you!), but which youre almost literally dying to know, such as: How clean is my office desk? (In terms of germs, its better to eat off a toilet seat) Do I have to shake that snotty persons hand? (The new etiquette says no) Are my hygiene products killing me? (No, but some increase your risk of illness) How do I get out of a public restroom without contamination? (Heres a five-step plan) What is the best way to wash my hands? (You have two detailed options) Am I the only germ freak in America? (Dont worry, 48% of women either use the toilet guard or make their own) Why didnt anyone tell me about The New Respiratory Etiquette? (Yes, its real, and its specifically designed for Germ Freaks just like you) Germ Freaks unite! This book will help unenlightened germspreaders get a clueor at least a HandiWipeand prove to the world that, in the end, its far better to be safe than sorry. Are You a Germfreak? Some Ways to Tell Your exit strategy from a public bathroom rivals an NFL playbook Your family and friends think Purell is your scent You check elevator riders for anyone who is sniffling and opt for the stairs even though you're going to the Penthouse You turn all public bathroom faucets with a piece of tissue You avoid buffets that dont have 10-foot-high GermGuard barriers You think BYOB means bring your own bathroom hand towels You only go to afternoon (or really bad) movies because theyre less crowded If you answered yes to any one of these questions, you're on your way to becoming a Germ freak. If you answered yes to two or more, congratulations, you're a full-fledged freak.

5 Stars from a Germ Freak Parent.......2007-07-17
This is a great book to help prevent you and your family from getting sick. When I brought my premature twins home from the hospital I was told it was very important to keep them from getting sick that first year because they were at such a high risk for contracting RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) which can be fatal. This book helped keep the germs away. Despite the unpleasant subject, it is a fun read. The author is really funny.

I love this book. It has great tips and cleaning suggestions even if you're not a germ freak.
Humor and practical health-maintaining habits blend in a guide .......2007-01-07
If you hate public restrooms, touching elevator buttons or doorknobs, and go through Purell like a house afire, then GERM FREAK'S GUIDE TO OUTWITTING COLDS AND FLU: GUERILLA TACTICS TO KEEP YOURSELF HEALTHY AT HOME, AT WORK AND IN THE WORLD defines you. Humor and practical health-maintaining habits blend in a guide which identifies just where the germs hang out, how they're passed, and how to avoid them.

Hey, I mean it! If everyone would just follow some of the practical advice in this incredibly easy-to-read (and entertaining) book, there would be less germs, thus less sickness, to be caught. I was always a germ-phobe, and now I must be extra-vigilant as I am a kidney-transplant survivor. I'm also about to be a mom. Just the thought of waiting in a pediatric office in the near-future is giving me the heebee-jeebees! Mrs. Janse is also a mother of twins and gives great advise on how to keep your little one from turning into a germ-magnet and making you sick, too.
My Top Three?
-Washing your hands to the alphabet....
-Using the disinfectant wipes at the grocery store before grabbing a cart....
-Making your doctor wash their hands before examining you.
One I'd like to add that I didn't see mentioned?
-If you valet: Have sanitizing wipes in your glove compartment and use to wipe-down your steering wheel after receiving your car - ESPECIALLY at a hospital! EEWW!
Fascinating look at topic, not just for the phobic.......2006-11-02
This is a great baby shower gift, or something to tuck into a gift or get-well basket. It's not just common sense stuff you already know; see what it says about automatic hand dryers in public bathrooms (I guarantee you'll shudder!). My reaction to a lot of things in the book was first, that it was very thorough and covered items I hadn't even imagined, and two, who knew?! Especially in these days when even a routine hospital stay can lead to a serious infection, it's very informative. Just look at the recent rash of e-coli cases that are in the news. Plus, it's an entertaining and easy read. You can't ask for much more than that for the price!

Book Description
Jeanette MacDonald, the movie musical's first superstar, was an American original whose onscreen radiance mirrored a beguiling real-life personality. Based in large part on the author's exclusive access to MacDonald's private papers, including her unpublished memoir, this vivid, often touching biography transports us to a time when lavish musical films were major cultural events and a worldwide public eagerly awaited each new chance to fall under the singer's spell. Edward Baron Turk shows how MacDonald brilliantly earned her Hollywood nickname of "Iron Butterfly," and why she deserves a privileged position in the history of music and motion pictures.
What made MacDonald a woman for our times, readers will discover, was her uncommon courage: Onscreen, the actress portrayed strong charcters in pursuit of deep emotional fulfillment, often in defiance of social orthodoxy, while offscreen she personified energy, discipline, and practical intellect. Drawing on interviews with individuals who knew her and on MacDonald's own words, Turk brings to life the intricate relations between the star and her legendary costars Maurice Chevalier, Clark Gable, and, above all, baritone Nelson Eddy. He reveals the deep crushes she inspired in movie giants Ernst Lubitsch and Louis B. Mayer and the extraordinary love story she shared with her husband of twenty-seven years, actor Gene Raymond.
More than simply another star biography, however, this is a chronicle of American music from 1920s Broadway to 1960s television, in which Turk details MacDonald's fearless efforts to break down distinctions between High Art and mass-consumed entertainment. Hollywood Diva will attract fans of opera and concert music as much as enthusiasts of the great Hollywood musicals. It is first-rate cultural and film history.

Hollywood's Golden Diva.......2006-11-30
I so much enjoyed reading about Jeannette McDonald. The author did an outstanding job with the research. She presented this talented actress and singer in such a perfect light-she talked about her hard working fund raising for the troops and her concert tours. What a great performer. I would have loved to have been able to see her live in concert!
A first rate biography.......2006-03-22
This was a biography that was hard to put down. Jeanette MacDonald lived an incredibly rich life. She came into her own during a period of time that I have always found fasinating. Beginning her career on the New York stage, she eventually found her way to Hollywood. You definetely got the impression that while Miss. MacDonald treasured her talant and her career, that her personal life was just as important to her. She had a supportive family and eventually a solid marriage to actor Gene Raymond that endured. I found that she had a wonderful sense of humor and a great talent. It made me go out and rent some of her earlier films, the ones she did with the great director, Ernest Lubitsch. Before all of those sugary musicals of the mid 1930's, our Jeanette was quite the coquette! Before the horrible Hay's code was inforced, Jeanette was able to portray some deliously decadent women on film. I loved this book.
Bad.......2005-06-25
A bad book!!!!!!!!!! This book is nothing but a sugar coated look at Jeanette MacDonald's life. The facts in this book come from Jeanette's husband (the author leaves out that he was arrested for soliciting male prostitutes) and Jeanette's unpublished autobiography (which was written in the conservative 1950s when stars did not reveal any secrets about their private lives). There are many better books out there about Jeanette.
"A reader" has to be Sharon Rich.......2004-10-28
I would like to point out that the review below by "A reader" that focuses so strongly on scandals and recommends "Sweethearts" by Sharon Rich TWICE is none other than Sharon Rich herself. The writing style gives it away. Ms. Rich runs a what is essentially a scandalmongering franchise that is obsessed to rather laughable proportions with proving that an affair existed between Jeanette and Nelson. My question is, if Jeanette and Nelson really DID have an affair, why is Ms. Rich going to such extremes to prove it? If it really is "the truth" as Ms. Rich says incessantly, then the truth should be able to speak for itself and shouldn't need so much help. What's going on here?
What is particularly hypocritical and questionable is Ms. Rich's constant high praise of Jeanette and Nelson while she tears down and demonizes the two's spouses, Gene Raymond and Ann Franklin. "Mr. Raymond is dead now. There is no more need to try and protect his honor." This brutal statement is the equivalent of spitting on that man's grave. And for what reason? Something is fishy here, and there is a strong need for someone to investigate Ms. Rich's claims, as a good historian would not conduct him/herself in this unethical of a manner.
Failure to research material completely........2004-04-27
No doubt Mr. Turk meant well, but when a writer of the life of someone leaves out important facts, it implies there is something to hide. Most of certain groups in hollywood during the 30s and 40s knew of Mr. Raymond's homo activities. That He was arrested on at least two occasions after being caught in certain clubs, and how poor Jeanette was nearly devestated when she learned of this after her marriage to him. Also, Jeanette was very human and very career minded. She was willing to do many things for the furthering of her career. After all, she was only human and imperfect like all of us. Even L.B.Mayer knew this. She was able to control a few men on her way up the ladder. But, when she met Nelson Eddy, he was of a different sort. The chemistry between them was very powerful on and off the screen. She and Gene stayed together, yes, as many people do, but they lived separate lives until her death. This can easily be done when couples make a show for the purpose of the public. I would recommend that Mr. Turk read "Sweethearts" by Sharon Rich. All of her sources are listed, and since she began her writing over 20 years ago, many of the people interviewed spoke over tape. Many of the close friends of Nelson, Jeanette, Gene, and Ann were still living. These along with letters and documents are proof. And lets not forget Jeanette's sister Blossem. I suggest that Mr Turk read "Sweethearts" by Sharon Rich. Then he will learn the truth. Mr. Raymond is dead now. There is no more need to try and protect his honor.

Really fun and informative.......2002-01-23
I bought one these guys' other books about the Palm, and was glad to see the same format for an MP3 book. They tell you everything about burning, ripping, players, software, Web radio stations, and even legal stuff about MP3. They do these hilarious point/counterpoint arguements like they did in the Palm book -- very funny, guys! Oh and the reason I bought this book is there's stuff for bands and musicians about getting your stuff distributed on the net and making money from it. Rip the cover off, though, cuz that girl is WEIRD-LOOKING!

Hopscotch,Hangman, Hot Potato& Ha Ha Ha : A Rulebook of Children's Games.......2007-01-14
What a great book, I teach P.E. and do afterscool care, I use this book all the time. It has great games for indoor and outdoors. Get it you won't regret it.
Best Children's Game Book Ever.......2006-04-20
I LOVE this book and I'm not a teacher NOR do I have children (just lots of nieces and nephews)! I've always been a board game fan and this book brings back memories of all the fun we used to have as kids. This is a great book for parents to get kids away from video games and get outside and have fun while being active. It covers almost any children's game you can think of in a manner that touches on all the detail I've forgotten over time. It's divided into chapters such as: Indoor Games; Games to Play on Grass and Playgrounds; Games to play on Pavement, Steps and Stoops; Games in Water; Party Games and Travel Games.
There are games I played that I didn't remember the names or the rules...they're all here. Card games like Old Maid, Fish and Hearts; Paper games like Hangman, Boxes (where you make the dots and connect the lines to form boxes) and String games like Cat's Cradle. There was even the game that you folded the paper and wrote stuff on the inside and you sliped the paper box thing over your fingers to answer the other person's questions. Here it's called Cootie Catcher but I can guarantee we didn't call it that! LOL
Writing this review makes me want to go play some hopscotch! See ya' later.
Great!.......2002-10-01
The best one book for playing games with elementary students. New games, old games, cooperative games, competitive games, variations on games- it's all here. The best money I've spent on a game book- and I've bought four!
If you have children or work with kids, it's a MUST!!!.......2001-08-08
I couldn't put this book down -- it's like reading a best seller! It brought back wonderful memories of my childhood. Games I always wanted to share with my kids, but couldn't remember exactly how to play them are not a problem now. I'm also a new Girl Scout leader (starting my 2nd year) and I know, already, this book will provide hours of fun. **One of the best reference books for entertaining children (and adults) I've come across.
Comprehensive Game BOOK!.......1999-05-16
I love this book! I have used it so much I had to order a second copy. As a teacher, I have used many of these games to play with my class during recess, on school trips, and after a lesson is finished. The book is easy to use for any age or interest level. These are the games I remember playing as a kid. I highly recommend you buy it!
