Book Description

This guide is an excellent tool for use by itself or with any human anatomy and physiology text. The author's unique approach promotes and reinforces learning on many levels through a wide variety of visual and written exercises. In its review of the human body, from microscopic to macroscopic levels, the workbook covers the most important and useful aspects of human anatomy and physiology, and offers clinically oriented activities. "At the Clinic" questions help readers apply what they've learned to real-life clinical settings; "Incredible Journey" visualization exercises in each chapter summarize chapter content, allowing readers to apply what they've learned; the many written exercises include completion from a selection of key choices, matching terms or descriptions, labeling diagrams, true/false, and definition questions. Elimination questions require readers to discover the similarities or dissimilarities among a number of structures or objects; a clear design, along with Marieb's hallmark friendly writing style, make learning more enjoyable; and more than 100 coloring exercises reinforce concepts through active learning. Designed to engage the introductory allied health reader.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great study aid.......2007-09-30

Great tool for anyone taking A&P. Easy pictures to follow and great study questions. A must for passing this class.

5 out of 5 stars Anatomy & Physiology Coloring Workbook 8th edition.......2007-01-21

This book was necessary for my schooling. Its good.

4 out of 5 stars great textbook adjunct.......2006-11-27

This book was really useful - the coloring parts are especially good if you are a visual learner. There's also more to it than just coloring in pictures - there are lots of fill-in-the-blanks sections to test your knowledge and review major ideas. This is where the only criticism lies....if you don't have the textbook (or a good knowledge of the material) then some sections will be hard to complete. Answers are provided, however, so overall, it is a really useful book and offers more than you might first assume.

3 out of 5 stars Dissapointed.......2006-08-13

The paper has a wax like feel. It is slippery for colored pencil. There is not enough tooth in the paper to hold the colored pencil. No fun. :(

5 out of 5 stars Great filler and study guide.......2006-07-21

I needed a good 'filler' and study guide for my Anatomy classes and this seems to fill the need beautifully. Not used it yet but will come back after the year starts in Sept. and give an update.

      Book Description

One the most creative artists of the twentieth century, Hélio Oiticica (1937-1980) played a key role in the Tropicalia movement in Brazil, and in the overall development of Latin American art and culture. Beginning with formal, abstract works on paper, he progressed to creating labyrinths, works that could be worn as clothing, structures hung from the ceiling, and works that featured pure, vivid pigments. The large-scale environments he created toward the end of his career opened up new sensory worlds for gallery visitors, inviting them to take off their shoes and walk in sand or share the exhibition space with live, brilliantly colored tropical parrots. Drawing on new research and including previously unseen works, this is the most extensive publication yet on this crucial Latin American artist.

        Book Description

One of the most important exponents of contemporary art in South America, Helio Oiticica creates multimedia room installations which intertwine social themes, experimental elements, and appropriations from popular culture, film, and music. This book focuses on works which have rarely been seen elsewhere, works in which Oiticica questions the traditional relationship between the audience and the world of the movies, such as his "quasi-cinemas," which combine slide projections and music. The lavish nine-part sequence "Black Experiments in Cosmacocoa" is published here for the first time, alongside Oiticica's own notes and critical texts.

              Book Description

One of the first modern European artists to be acknowledged in Latin America, Lucio Fontana is also one of the first of his ilk to be influenced by the cultural reality of this region. Through his poetic inventions, he impregnated the Brazilian art scene with a hypothetical problematization of space and subject; his "wish for space" paralleled similar concerns expressed by his Brazilian counterparts. In Lucio Fontana Brasil, the dialogue between the two is explored through instances of collation, approximation, and comparison, and is traced to their shared origins in Western art traditions and its developments in South America.

                          Book Description

Everyone says they would like to retire early, but Rodney Rothman actually did it -- forty years early. Burnt out, he decides at the age of twenty-eight to get an early start on his golden years. He travels to Boca Raton, Florida, where he moves in with an elderly piano teacher at Century Village, a retirement community that is home to thousands of senior citizens.

Early Bird is an irreverent, hilarious, and ultimately warmhearted account of Rodney's journey deep into the heart of retirement. Rodney struggles for acceptance from the senior citizens he shares a swimming pool with and battles with cranky octogenarians who want him off their turf. Before long he observes, "I don't think Tuesdays with Morrie would have been quite so uplifting if that guy had to spend more than one day a week with Morrie."

In the spirit of retirement, Rodney fashions a busy schedule of suntanning, shuffleboard, and gambling cruises. As the months pass, his neighbors seem to forget that he is fifty years younger than they are. He finds himself the potential romantic interest of an aging femme fatale. He joins a senior softball club and is disturbed to learn that he is the worst player on the team.

Early Bird is a funny, insightful, and moving look at what happens to us when we retire, viewed from a remarkably premature perspective. Any reader who plans on becoming an old person will enjoy joining Rodney on his strange journey, as he reconsiders his notions of romance, family, friendship, and ultimately, whether he's ever going back to work.

As a male around the age of the author, I found this book to be a holiday treat, and found myself vicariously living the "easy" life through the humorous and witty prose encompassed in each chapter. Interesting enough, the author often paints how the life of a retiree can be equally difficult as that of a man entering the competitive business world. Full of villians, cliques and quarrels, Early Bird will have people second guessing taking the route of a retirement center in their geriatric years.

5 out of 5 stars Read Rodney before it's too late..........2006-11-29

When Rodney Rothman lost his job, he could have taken the path of least resistance, the path most frequently trod upon: he could have simply found another job. But not Rodney. Instead, he opted to retire to Florida amid people usually twice his age. Florida, he says, is where you go when you want to fall off the face of the earth. Don't for a minute think that Florida is a dull place. Rodney joins the volunteer police department where he patrols the mean streets, culminating in witnessing a Toyota taking up two spaces at a neighborhood mall. And, gambling -- witness his efforts to break into the pool side card games monopolized by the women in his complex. Yes, in addition to the violence, there's sex. Read the chapter on that siren Vivian, who really does appeal to Rodney, though she will later deny having any intention of seducing him. And, of course, on a more poignant note: there's religion. Rodney, though Jewish, rents a room with a wall-size picture of Jesus over his bed. Later, when Christians implore him to take Jesus into his heart, Rodney takes comfort in the fact that he and Jesus are roomates. This is an important book which manages, despite his very objective reporting, to shed more light on Rodney than it does on retirement in Florida. Rodney, you're in our prayers!

5 out of 5 stars A great, just for fun, read..........2006-09-13

I found this book as an unemployed college graduate. I was trying to figure out my "career" options in life. This book didn't help me find that, but made me feel like there were others out there who wander, searching for their calling. It was entertaining and humorous, just a really fun book, written by a great author. A definite must read!

4 out of 5 stars Funny, fast read.......2006-08-31

I picked up this book Friday night, began reading it on Sunday night and finished it by Tuesday afternoon. Rodney Rothman does a great job of capturing the humor of his experience living in a Florida retirement community. The characters he writes about come alive on the pages and I often found myself laughing out loud at the obsurdity of it all. I found the first two chapters a bit akward, but by chapter 3, Rodney hits his stride and doesn't turn back. Surprisingly, this crazy recount of retirement living at 28 is hilarious, heart-warming and poignant all at the same time.

                            Book Description

From Elsewhere takes a close look at the most radical New Age group--those who claim extraterrestrial (ET) identity. Adapted from the Ph.D. research of Scott Mandelker through 25 interviews, From Elsewhere follows the lives of 25 'Wanderers' from their unusual childhood to the rare events that lead to an extraordinary sense of self. Detailed case stories trace their growth from confusion to clarity, dealing with society, intimacy, and life-mission. Their ideas on UFOs, human history, and the fate of planet Earth make fascinating reading.

After reading From Elsewhere I have this book an excellent read!
Very reflective and I resonate with many of the stories told by the 25 people in the book. I especially love Soren's story we are both very similar.
I highly recommend this book. Each time i read it I discover something new!

After my own "awakening" I went searching for others like me. I quickly found Scott Mandelker's book, "From Elsewhere." It was a relief for me to know that I was not alone. Reading the experiences in this book helped me a great deal as I have also told Scott. This book is helpful to all of the Wanderer's, Walk-ins and others that know they are "From Elsewhere." Thank you Scott for such a wonderful gift.

Almost everyone is still asking the question: are we alone in the universe?
But almost every metaphysician knows that the answer is simply "No" From elsewhere is a book that proves that we are not alone in the universe and it gives the reader a lot of valubale information about the extra-terrestrials amoung us. I found this book to be very interesting and I am certan that you will too if you read it!

                            5 out of 5 stars A life-saver for wanderers.......2000-07-25

Synchronicity brought "From Elsewhere" my way and I am eternally grateful. It is very difficult going through life as a lonely observer with a growing stack of unanswerable questions. This book addressed those gnawing issues for me. The answer to all of them: I am a wanderer. I agree with the Knoxville reviewer about the book probably being unpalatable to most non-wanderers/walk-ins. That is simply because few people are open-minded enough to ask the questions that Dr. Mandelker poses. These questions shake the very foundations of society's cherished beliefs about life. It is a tribute to Mandelker's courage that he dares ask them.

As a wanderer, I particularly appreciated the author's personal story in the appendix. That autobiography plus the quiz that the other reviewer mentioned, convinced me of my origins. I really wasn't surprised that I'm from Elsewhere. That was probably the most stunning discovery of all. I hope sincere, open-minded people will delve into this book. It deserves the attention of all devoted seekers of truth. Dr. Mandelker's sincerity, courage, and solid, though unconventional reasoning make this work a stand-out. Thank you, Scott.

                            4 out of 5 stars A handbook for wanderers.......2000-04-29

I must say this book was an eye opener for me. After 50 years of life I would have thought I would know my roots and why I just don't seem to fit into this world. After reading a quiz that I found on the net that suppose to indicate if one is a wanderer, I found that I answered virtually every question yes. So I ordered this book, and boy does it ring true. It has given me a new outlook on life, and at last I know my mission. For wanderers it is a must read. For those who are not wanderers it probably is of little interest.

It explains much of what had been a mystery to me, like why I came to have healing touch so easily, and why all my close friends have told me at one time or the other they are from elsewhere. Also it directed me to the RA books which have given me additional insight. Both are a must read for wanderers!

It is the most awesome book to start off with in order to create your own book of shadows. It kept me interested throughout the whole thing. I highly recommend the beginner or even the experienced witch to get this book. It gives you a good base to start off with and when you are out of ideas on what to put in or on your BOS, you can just look up for ideas. 5 stars!

I think this is a great book for beginners just learning the craft on how to put their book of shadows together. Too many times new Witches have asked me how to write their BOS, and now I tell them about this book along with my own thoughts. I especially love the chapter that included how to make your own paper. Its a delightful book from a very good author.

4 out of 5 stars Help for your BOS..........2004-10-31

I am pretty new to the craft (almost 2 years) and out of all the Wicca 101 books that I have read the most overwhelming chapter has always been on how to create your BOS. I made one out of a folder but soon learned that just one book wasn't enough to hold everything. Then I started having so much trouble with getting organized. Sometimes, it seemed the same information belonged in many sections, and sometimes I couldn't find a section where certain information belonged. When I saw the title of this book I decided to try it because, well, I was desperate for some help. The information in the book is shallow but that is very nice for someone just starting out because it helps you organize the information when it is still manageable and allows you to do farther research later. Another nice thing about this book are all the "crafts" ideas, creative things, that you can undertake if you have time such as creating your own paper and ink. And, finally, you end up with a BOS that you can actually use. The down side to this book is that if you have a few years under your belt, you might find this book boring and the information too shallow for your liking. That is why I gave it 4 stars. I think that this is a great book for some who has only read a few books and the Craft and is a beginner. I would highly recommend over some of the other books out there. But for someone who has had years of experiance I would suggest to find something else (or at least check the book out at the book store before spending money on it).
