Wonderful Insight to a GREAT MAN.......2007-03-08

If you are a Disney fan this is the one to read. Lots of info about his early days & how Disneyland came to be. He was sure he would die before he had finished what he set out to do. The Disney company was never the same after his death.
But is John Lassiter the new Walt..... Let's hope so.

This was a great and interesting book. I loved reading it and learning things about Disney and his history that I didn't know. A great read.

Great book on a great man........2006-11-24

Like the man himself, An American Original is at times quirky, innovative, sad, and uplifting. There are those out there that will push whatever drivel there is about Walt - that he hated children, was a money hungry monster, supposed anti-Semite, sexual deviant, etc. but mr. Thomas fortunately leaves the tabloids aside and deals with those that knew Walt personally. One then gets a portriat of a hopeful Horatio Alger who frequently went without full meals so he could pay early employees, volunteered his studio and expertise to make WW 2 films and lost thousands in the process when the majority of his funds were already frozen, and that fondly reminisced "I believe that every conception is immaculate because there is a child involved." On the other hand, he was indeed human - stubborn, willfull, and hot tempered at times to his best friend and brother, Roy (for a better account of their temporary falling out and Walt's attitude towards Roy's family, see mr. Thomas' also excellent bio on him). But he loved him in the end. Simply flawless account on Snow White, the creation of Disneyland (which contains the Walt-ism "people can buy Pepsi-Cola but they can't pee in the street"), and Mary Poppins. Altogether a very good portrait of the father of modern animation and family entertainment.

Corporate puff piece.......2006-04-25

Published by the Disney Corporation, not exactly an objective source for a biography of Walt Disney. You'll learn more about the man just wandering his parks and watching his films than you will from this extended press release, which completely ignores key individuals and events that helped shape Uncle Walt. The photos aren't very interesting either -- pass on this one.

A very good overview of the life of the master that tells all the general reader needs to know of walt's life and work. Highly recommended, despite the occasional faux pas which does not detract from this informative work.

Great for beginners..........1999-12-07

If you're NEW to Flash, this is a great book. For those of you that know NOTHING about Flash, but want to learn... this is probably the best book on Flash out there. If you're already fluent in Flash, don't waste your time, and anyway, if you're that fluent, why do you need a book? Use your imagination when it comes to designing and programming!

Disappointed.......1999-12-04

The missing contents from the CD is a major flaw. I spent far too much time drawing the graphics in Flash then actually following instruction from the book. Though drawing the clip arts did help establish some skill in the drawing tools of flash.

However, the instructions were sub-par. I felt as if several steps were missing and the explanations were not clear. Many of the instructions were repetitive.

I've already gone through one basic flash book. The alluring graphics in the cover and pages made it seem like I can take a step up to at least the intermediate level (the type of step one could use to get a job! ) Unfortunately, it did not.

Sorry, I'm glad I borrowed this book from a friend rather than buying it.

Useless!.......1999-11-02

I bought a couple graphic design books from The Coriolis Group before. They are all not good. I read this book at the bookstore instead of wasting my money. This book is not well organized! The information inside is far less useful than many online Flash tutorial sites. Too bad there are only a few Flash book in the market and all of them are useless. Maybe this is still a new software and there are not that many smart Flash designers around.

Not a useful book........1999-10-09

I'm a new user to Flash and for the most part the book put me in a coma when I tried to follow the examples (drawing tutorial was particularly painful to get through). The online tutorials and lessons provided by Macromedia are so much more helpful. I personally think this book should have been recalled because of the missing tutorial files. Author should at least post a url where we can download the missing files. Sorry for being so critical but that book cost too much to ignore the flaws. A nice looking cover design and some eye catching color page inserts probably tricked a lot of shoppers into taking this book home. Too bad the content wasn't better thought out.

Great Book if you know nothing about FLASH..........1999-09-23

I don't understand why so many people are putting this book down. A week ago I hadn't even touched Flash. I bought this book and by the weekend had my own website done ENTIRELY using Flash 4. And now I'm getting more work than I can handle because I have this skill. For someone who knows nothing about Flash, this is a really good book!

This book is so much fun. Beyond the great photos that are too campy to be believed, this book is jammed with the reflections of others on their mitzvah experiences. No poignancy here, just a lot of laughs.

This book is awesome - it perfectly captures this bizarre subculture of over-the-top celebrations of puberty among Jews in the 1980s, primarily in the New York metro area. If you are one of the chosen people that celebrated Bar and Bat Mitzvahs during that time, you will laugh until it hurts reading this book.

I just received this book for the holidays. I was going to bar/bat mitvahs in the early eighties and throughly enjoyed this book. Then came the photo. I graduated junior high with the entire table!!!

There are no words to describe how happy I am with this book, except to say that reading it was pure enjoyment.

This guide doesn't just help you beat the game, but gives you tips, maps, weapon description, armour description, a ship accessory list, and, of course, a whole behind the scences look at how the game was made. I actually got the stragety after I beat the game, and when I used it, I discovered all the secret unlocks and places that i did'nt even know exisited. This guide is defenitly worth the money!

i no this isnt that helpful but this is jus one of those games that make gaming reach a new level and thats it. and 4 that kid before me u dont have 2 buy all the armors i beat it the first time wit the 2nd armor and bought the rest in the chalange mode. so.......

Pretty and funny, but that's about it. .......2004-10-16

Many people may disagree with me on this, but this game just isn't very fun. THe graphics are wonderful, and when you play the first few missions, you feel as though this is one of the greatest games ever. Then that feeling comes to a screeching halt when you buy your first armor. If it weren't for the friggin' armor in this game, I definately would have given this a five. From one point on, you have to continuously buy armor in order to make it through a certain few levels, because if you don't you're screwed. The last armor is a million bolts. A MILLION BOLTS. To raise that grit I had to beat one level ten times, and seeing as how the level was huge, that got extremely boring. In order to raise money for this without doing what I did, you would have to spend nearly nothing throughout the game, which is hard seeing as how it is necessary to spend up to 10,000 bolts in order to gain one little bit of info from some cheap citizen. I am a big Jak and Daxter fan, and I'm used to big environments where you can choose how to approach the situation. Not so in this game. There is one and only one way to get to a certain point, and the environment just goes in one big circle. However if you were a fan of the first R&C and you can't help but waste more money on crap like this, go ahead. I won't stop you.

This guide contains maps and where to get all platnum bolts and nanotech boost which is REALLY helpful! It tells you info on weapons and when you should use them and how to get through stuff and answers to electrolizer and infiltrator puzzles to thats also really helpful. It also tells you how to get all the skill points and tips on getting them. A really great guide but a bit confuseing at times un-fourinetly

This game is awesome but like all great games there are parts where we may get stuck in and just get so frustrated since we cant figure it out. Now thats where this guide comes in. It tells you everything for those annoying times when we can find what to do. Help for every planet you go to..and for such a low price to buy! What could be better...#1-getting stuck at a part in the game and taking forever to figure this simple little thing out or..#2-paying a small fee for help everywhere you need it. Hmm...I would have to go with #1! Wouldn't you?

Ratchet and Clank Score Big.......2002-11-30

Prima's Official Strategy Guied for Ratchet and Clank is awesome. It has every mission you need to complete, how to complete them, walkthroughs of where to go and the levels, etc. If your having trouble beating this game (I know I would without this guide) get this book. It is totall worth the money.

Review of the First Casualty, by Nathan Reid.......2003-06-16

The First Casualty by Phillip Knightly looks at the history of War Correspondents, and analyzes their attempts to accurately report what actually happens on the front line. It covers a broad period of time, from the mid 1800's to the 1970's, in which the author analyzes just about every major war in the time span.

One of the most interesting aspects of the book is that it shows the inability of the majority of the correspondents to report accurately on the wars that have taken place throughout history. For various reasons, which are all explained in the book, most of what the average person read about a particular war during the time that it was going on, turned out to be some sort of propaganda or just completely false.

Phillip Knightly examines the role that technology has played in changing the role of the war correspondent. He looks at some of the most famous correspondents and explains what they did to get to the top. He also shows what the real priorities were for some of the correspondents and their editors.

This book also gives a very interesting perspective on many of the most famous wars, and has a lot of inside information that isn't available in your average textbook. This book will make anybody think twice about what they read in the paper, and I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in finding out the real uncensored truth about history.

Buy this book.......2003-06-15

If you are into the world of journalism in even the smallest capacity, this book is for you. If you are interested in how journalists cover major world events like wars, this book should already be on your bookshelf.

Knightley keeps a thorough record of how the wartime correspondent got its first start and doesn't let up through all of the major English and American wars including the Gulf War. Knightley himself is an accomplished journalist in his own right, but that doesn't stop him from taking a critical look at the industry - how it has succeeded but more interestingly where it has failed and continues to fail.

As a high school journalism teacher, this book will become required reading to understand how this type of reporting came about. It will help the students and you take a more critical look at how journalists are covering the war.

The Best Book on the History of Military-Media Relations.......2002-10-07

As a military officer who works routinely with the media, this book is my number-one choice for anybody who wants to understand how the relationship between media and the military became what it is today. This book simply tells a great story. Whether your interest is in media, the military or history, I think you'll have a hard time putting it down. And while I don't subscribe to Mr. Knighley's conclusion that the military scored a final victory in managing the media during Kosovo in 1999, the relationship is much more complex than most people realize and will continue to develop during the conflicts that are being played out today and in the future. The bottom line is that if you're interested enough in this subject to have gotten to the end of this review, you ought to buy the book. You won't regret it.
