Book Description
A sprightly text and colorful illustrations follow two creative people-and a talkative dog and cat-through the writing process step by step, from the inspiration for a story to the satisfaction of sharing the book with readers. Eileen Christelow based this instructive picture book on questions children asked during her classroom talks around the country. Simple enough for young children to understand, and with the entertainment value of fiction, "What Do Authors Do?" is children's nonfiction at its best.
Customer Reviews:
Good childrens book.......2005-09-30
This book is good for elementary aged kids. It explains how writers get their ideas and how they go about writing and publishing a book.
What Do Authors Do?.......2000-06-23
This is an excellent book for teaching children how books are created by an author and then published. It is a humorous account of the ways authors find their ideas and the rewriting necessary to create their stories. I plan to use it as an inspiration for my third graders as they write their own stories.

Book Description
In this informative companion to the popular "What Do Authors Do?" author/illustrator Christelow turns her attention to the visual side of creating a picture book. Employing her relaxed style and trademark humor, she shows how an illustrator develops a book from rough sketches to finished artwork, following two artists as they illustrate different versions of "Jack and the Beanstalk." Christelow answers the questions often posed by children, such as, "What materials do you use?" and "Is it hard to be an illustrator?" and reveals that the uniqueness of each book depends on many creative choices . . . and a lot of painstaking work.
Customer Reviews:
humorous look at illustrators.......2000-06-20
This books shows what illustrators do by following two illustrators both working on Jack and the Beanstalk but coming up with very different results. A friendly cat and dog also add to the book.
What Do Illustrators Do?.......1999-12-14
Outstanding descriptions and illustrations describing how two illustrators can get very different results, even though they were both working on the same story. (Jack and the Beanstalk) Wonderful teaching resource. Highly recommend this for K through the 4th grade; also recommended reading for teachers and parents. Contains excellent color illustrations.

Having previously dissected the factual inaccuracies of a single bellicose talk show host in Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot, Al Franken takes his fight to a larger foe: President George W. Bush, the Bush Administration, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, and scores of other conservatives whom, he says, are playing loose with the facts. It's a lot of ground to cover, as evidenced by the 43 chapters in Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, but the results are often entertaining and insightful. Franken occupies a unique place in the modern political dialogue as perhaps the media's only comedy writer and performer who is also a Harvard fellow as well as a liberal political commentator. This unique and vaguely lonely position lends a charming quixotic quality to adventures such as a tense encounter with the Fox News staff at the National Press Club, a challenge to fisticuffs with National Review Editor Rich Lowry, and an oddly sweet admissions visit to ultra-conservative Bob Jones University (with a young research assistant posing as his son when Franken's real-life son refuses to participate in the charade). Less useful are comic book dramatizations of "Supply Side Jesus" and a fictitious Vietnam War story featuring the numerous righties who, Franken intimates, improperly avoided service. And Franken's criticisms of conservative talk show hosts Sean Hannity, O'Reilly, and columnist Coulter, while admirable in their attention to detail, fail to shed much new light on people who have built careers on broad arguments and relentless self-aggrandizement. But Franken is at his best, and most compellingly readable, when he backs off the wackiness and the personal grudges and writes about more personal matters such as the political circus surrounding the memorial service of the late Senator Paul Wellstone. But even on these more serious topics, Franken's wit is still present and, in fact, grows sharper. In a time when much political discourse is composed of rage and shouting, it's refreshing that Al Franken is able to shout in a witty manner. --John Moe
Book Description
Al Franken, one of our savviest satirists (People), has been studying the rhetoric of the Right. He has listened to their cries of slander, bias, and even treason. He has examined the Bush administration's policies of squandering our surplus, ravaging the environment, and alienating the rest of the world. He's even watched Fox News. A lot.
And, in this fair and balanced report, Al bravely and candidly exposes them all for what they are: liars. Lying, lying liars. Al destroys the liberal media bias myth by doing what his targets seem incapable of: getting his facts straight. Using the Right's own words against them, he takes on the pundits, the politicians, and the issues, in the most talked about book of the year.
Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always funny, Lies sticks it to the most right-wing administration in memory, and to the right-wing media hacks who do its bidding.
Download Description
"Al Franken, ""one of our savviest satirists"" (People), takes on the issues, the politicians, and the pundits in one of the most anticipated books of the year. For the first time since his own classic Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations, Al Franken trains his subversive wit directly on the contemporary political scene. Now, the ""master of political humor"" (Washington Times) destroys the myth of liberal bias in the media, and exposes how the Right shamelessly tries to deceive the rest of us. No one is spared as Al uses the Right's own words against them. Not the Bush administration and their rhetorical hypocrisy. Not Ann Coulter and her specious screeds. Not the new generation of talk-radio hosts, and not Bill O'Reilly, Roger Ailes, and the entire Fox network. This is the book Al Franken fans have been waiting for (and his foes have been dreading). Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always funny, Lies is sure to become the most talked about book of political humor in 2003 and beyond."
Customer Reviews:
Another great book by Franken.......2007-09-22
This book while maybe not so fair and balanced does tell about the lies that people such as Sean Hannity, Anne Coulter, and Bill O'Reiley tell. This book is very funny escpecially the chapter when he and one of his TeamFranken crew went to Bob Jones University.
A very interesting read!
We NOW Know The Truth of it.......2007-09-15
Believe it or not, I was a registered Republican for decades. However, no longer. I think we need a little humor because the truth is so horrible to face. Using the fear of 9/11 and driving it into outrage to push an unfounded invasion into Iraq, the Republicans have earned us the disdain of all, including our own allies. We have also descended into astounding national debt. Our people and pets are being poisoned by imported food and toys (thanks to the "Fair Trade Agreement"). We also have fewer American businesses still in operation (Fenton Art Glass is closing after many generations of American glasswork). Also thanks to George Bush "Amnesty" plan (free citizenship for criminals), we are being invaded by millions of Illegal Aliens. NOW we know that people like Al Franken and others who humorously told the truth from the very start, were the actual real news reporters. I used to hate him and his ilk as Anti-American. How deluded could I have been?? Gee, and we thought Comedy Central's "Daily Report" was just fiction?? Check out their real news reporting with a humorous spin. Okay, the few people who still hold onto the strings of hope that George Bush can speak a modicum of truth will hate this book. I'm simply a realist AND an EX-Republican.
Funny look at shout shows . . ........2007-08-02
I loved Al's book. I thought it was a great mix of political analysis and satire. He takes aim at the shout shows like the O'Reilly Factor and most of the Fox Media lineup who have continually claimed that the media has liberal bias. He looks at this claim and others made by the get loud opinion crowd including O'Reilly and Coulter. He has worked hard along with "team Franken" a group of students from Harvard to debunk the factual misrepresentations of the Right wing media and fact check the issues.
He also pulls some silly stunts like pretenting to have a son/nephew who wants to attend Bob Jones University which is an non-acredited conservative christian University which until recently (after 2000) did not allow interracial dating. He and a member of "team Franken" go on a visit and ask questions until they are found out and feel really relieved because the students were so nice. I thought it was a funny look at the Right particularly the overblown egos of the Right wing media.
Unreadable.......2007-07-29
I didn't care that Franken lives in a leftist fantasyland in which he makes egregious mistakes on many pages, just as those he mistakenly defines as "conservative" makes mistakes on theirs. What I do care about is that this book is so excruciatingly political it is an unbearable bore. I couldn't read it, only glance though it looking for something interesting. I did find a few things, such as when Franken challenged girlyman Rich Lowry to a fight in his garage. That was funny, but it was about the only thing. For the most part this book is a flash-in-the-pan, and, thank God, will be forgotten.
Why the name-callin?.......2007-07-16
I won't as much as pick up this book, sounds like-smells like a lot of speculative bashing and reading into things that aren't really worth getting into! I second the nomination of impeachment of one William Jefferson Clinton! Godspeed!

Are you still deciding whether to take the red pill or the blue pill, or simply wondering what the Matrix films were all about? In The Matrix Revealed, Mark Worthing deciphers the complex world of the Matrix trilogy from the standpoint of Christian thought. He tackles the comparisons between Neo and Jesus, unravels the messianic symbolism and explores the postmodern context, world religions, philosophy and religious imagery depicted in the films. Customer Reviews:
How do you feel about bass lines?.......2006-12-09
I got this book because I love the CD (I finally gave in to Miss Spears despite years of trying to resist her) and because I wanted to play 'Shadow' on the piano. Well, I was so happy to discover that the arrangement (of Shadow) is both simple (lots of similar chords and one note melody throughout the song) and pleasant-sounding.
A wonderful book for piano, voice and guitar.......2004-04-27
It amazes me that such a stiff artist as Britney Spears, could write such meaningful words and music, as she composes half of this marvelous album. What shoscks me more is thaT "In the Zone," an album i did not buy until shortly after recieveing this book for one of my students auditions, is funner to play than to listen to. There are some truely wonderful arrangemnets on here, and the fact is this book is not "Britney Spears." No one can say they hate it for the sole fact that they hate Britney Spears. I am not fan of the Pop princess, but i'll tell you something, the absolutely stunning arrangement of Everytime composed solely by Britney could put you to tears if played properly.
There is nothing i love more than good music, and i never thought i would say it, but Britney, you write some damn good music... It's just too bad that my favorite songs are the ones britney wrote that never went to single (save everytime), and it's too bad Britney will probably never get the credit she so whole heartedly deserves.
Don't hate her cuase she can't write music, hate her cause she is the cuase of all sexual steriotypes.
well arranged, "In the Zone" is one fun play........2004-04-23
Britney Spears released "In the Zone" as a record, only finding lukewarm reviews. Yet, if you have a piano, you will find it impossible to stop playing these irresistable tunes.
Surprisingly arranged, In the Zone is sometimes funner to play than it is to listen to. Some of the bigger hits off the album are actually the least playable. "Toxic," "Me against the Music," and "(I got that) Boom Boom" are the biggest hits, yet the least complicated of arrangements, while "Outrageous" is barely sheet music. The best arrangements are surprisingly the "forgotten" songs off the new album, the best being an beautiful arrangement of "Everytime," and a delicate version of "Shadow."
Also the club ready "Breath on me," and "Touch of my hand" find great playablity. Jamacian flavored "The Hook up" plays well, while a bit repetative at times. "Showdown" and "Brave new girl" remain nearly as forgotten in this book as they do on the album, While "Early Morning" is a fun little piece that can be played with some jazzed up rhythm.
With great arrangments, "In the Zone" is one of the best popular music books out there. For fans it is a must, and for music lovers it is a need.

Book Description
War can get a fellow killed.
The fearless draconians of the War of the Lance have retired from the field of battle to a pleasant valley in the Kharolis Mountains. Well, it would be pleasant, if it weren't for some dwarves, whose irritating feuding prevents the draconians from realizing their greatest hope -- the ability to continue their doomed race.
When the dwarves discover a map leading to a fortune buried in the dwarven kingdom of Thorbardin, the draconians are swept up in a feverish race for treasure. Little do both sides realize that they are part of the strange and terrible destiny descending upon Krynn during the Summer of Flame.
A desinty that includes the children of Chaos . . . the fire dragons!
The Doom Brigade is the first installment in The Chaos War series, stories set during the war of the Dragons of Summer Flame, the New York Times best-selling novel co-authored by Margaret Weis.
Customer Reviews:
not enough action.......2006-06-25
IMO,this book fell a bit weak on the action department..The first half of the book was painful to read..I kept wondering when the real exciting epic story would begin.. I've read many reviews and it seemed that the book would be such an awesome read..I guess I expected to much from it because the action was very lacking..The overall storyline is the only thing that kept me from putting it back on my bookshelf, that and I couldnt believe the book was this bad..I kept reading hoping for some excitement..I was finally rewarded when a dark knight of takhisis got introduced..It was cool to read about Lord Ariakan gathering his army preparing for the conquest of Ansalon and I am sorta looking forward to see what happens in the second book.. But the dwarves were dumb and boring, except for brief humorous scenes with Selquist.. And most of the draconians were dumb except for Kang and Slith..
I hope to god the next book isnt as bad as this one... There were some brief moments of hope in the novel that intrigued me to read the second book..
Long Live Kang.......2006-01-12
Draconians. A race of dragonmen created from stolen eggs of good dragons, and very powerful and dark magic. Draconians first appeared in Dragons of Autumn Twilight, and now after the Chronicles they star in their own novel: The Doom Brigade.
I had recieved the Doom Brigade as a Cristmas present. When I saw that it was written by Maragret Weis, I knew it was going to be something. The main character of the story is the bozak draconian named Kang, who along with his fellow draconians is learning what it means to live a somewhat peaceful life. However there are many conflicts that disrupt that...the neighboring dwarves, the regiment of dark knights they inlist with for a short time, and an unknown threat that seeks to destroy the world of Krynn. However hope remains, as Kang discovers the location of where some female draconian eggs might be found.
Needless to say, this book is great. Like in all of her other novels, Maragret puts together a cast of incredible and unique characters. In a sense there are no "good guys" in the story, but Kang plays a pretty good character who you will cheer for all the way. The plot in itself is pretty good, and it sets up for the future events in the Dragonlance story. I encourage any Dragonlance fan to pick up this novel.
Surprised.......2005-09-13
I wasn't sure how Margaret Weis would be without her longtime writing partner Hickman at the helm of a Dragonlance novel. Her partner on this one is her husband Don Perrin, a fine writer in his own right. I found this to be an excellent novel, and has a solid place in the mythos of Krynn. It was nice to see another point of view(the Draconians), and also see that they are not without honor, and maybe not so evil after all. This is a very good, and fast read. Along with Dracion Measures, this is a good solid story.
Fun adventure.......2003-09-05
A book centered on Draconians....by Margaret Weis. You're joking right? Not at all. This book will change your entire opinion on the little known race of dragon men. And when you mix aggresive draconian warriors and scheming dwarves, you know there will be some laugh out loud moments. Through everything Weis and Perrin manage to string together an engaging plot with fun well-developed characters. Unfortunately there are some proofreading/editing mistakes (more than in any other book I've read). But it doesn't really get in the way. This book won't change your life, but it is guaranteed to entertain.
A Great Book!!!.......2002-10-08
There're 2 gruops I love reading about(besides the main ones I mean.): Gully Dwarfs & these Draconians.
These writers bring so much character to these guys it's impossible not to like Kang & his men! I hope there's more stories written about them.
