Each topic is treated in sufficent depth to engage a graduate student with background in aesthetics, and yet the topics treated provide a sampler platter for those new to the discipline. An excellent read overall.

Jean Shepard is without a doubt the most hilarious writer that America can claim! It is impossible to read any of his books without a belly laugh and for those of us born before television arrived, he captures the essence of sitting in front of the radio painfully waiting for DRINK OVALTINE codes! He is a ray of sunshine for all who read his books...and they are ALL worth reading!

Jean Shepard contributed to our culture with the stories that resulted in "A Christmas Story." He's hard to dislike, for that work alone.
Here, though, you get more exposure to Jean's other side. He is cynical, and not all that charming about it. He stereotypes, and it reminds us of how we used to be about assuming traits in people based on their race or ethnic origin. He excuses a lot of pretty bad behavior and, worse, expects us to agree with him that it is cute.
Well, that's the bad stuff. The good stuff is that he still has a grasp of American rhythym that's hard to find most places. You will enjoy his fresh view of our experiences, and, if you overlook your potential reactions like the foregoing paragraph describes, you'll hear an authentic descriptive voice which is now gone.

I made the mistake of reading this on an airplane once. I almost had an aneurysm trying to stifle my laughter. This is a book that you'll read over and over. Only, be forewarned; you'll have to buy multiple copies--once you lend it to a friend, you'll never see it again.

A great book from a great movie.......2005-06-17
This is a fantastic 'making of' book charting the fascinating process of filmmaking from script to screen. And it doesn't skimp on the color pics either. Ridley Scott' epic GLADIATOR is given the full epic treatment here, with accolades aplenty and no shortage of impressive obstacles faced while making the film. I love all of Scott's films, from The Duelists to the recently released Kingdom of Heaven. But sometimes the accompanying books don't quite match the majestic tone of the films themselves. This is different. Walter Parkes' treatment is fair and doesn't fail to connect with the reader. Showcasing all the necessary film techniques and humorous asides along with abandoned concepts, this also contains cast and crew thoughts and praises Scott for his remarkable visionary touch. A solid read and well worth the price. Buy it now!

A Tour de Force of Roman Epic.......2002-02-18
The book gives a thorough insight into the making of the most ambitious remaking of Roman epic in the 21st century Hollywood crowd of sci-fi movies. The pictures and the conceptual sketches really give additional values to the book in satisfying the artistic curiosity of the movie fans. The only drawback is that they didn't put in the complete shooting script a la other pictorial Newmarket movie books.

I would say its very acurate it is almost all tabliture very good i would recamend it but not to begginers or mabye intermidiate overall it is very good. In songs like right now it has the piano notes in guitar tabliture I can play 50% of the songs and I learned Eruption in a few days but I was missing a copule notes but i got the basics down everything is mostly not live like uruption very good book

Since Ed Van Halen has played his own-made guitar for the first time, everybody wants to play like him. Ed was the first guitar player that played a guitar with a new tremolo developed by his friend Floyd Rose. He was also the guy that showed out the world a new way of playing guitar. High harmonics and two-hand tapping inspired so many in the world. In this guitar tab edition you can do the same! It's very detailed and acurate! Worth it!

The author has certainly provided a very thorough text in terms of theory coverage, and I read (and occasionally waded) through it over a 12 month period.
The opening presents a position with an immediate imbalance and I finally feel more comfortable about playing against it with the white pieces. This book has also considerably helped my middlegame play.
Worth the investment in time, and even worth buying solely for reference purposes!
Intended Audience.......2006-03-15
So I'm FIDE rated 2068 and USCF 2111, but my opening preparation is in general quite good. I bought this book with no real intention of playing the Sveshnikov but instead to get a better feel for the ideas in the opening. The theoretical material is good, but I feel like certain sections didn't explain all the ideas behind some of the more modern novelties.
Overall I was please with the theoretical material in the book however my one big gripe is the layout. The author/editor or whomever was in charge of this didn't figure out a good way to categorize the lines so instead of having either games or thematic chapters like some opening books this book chose a chapter layout that was ALMOST a game layout. There were sections to divide earlier moves a little, but hopping around to look for the recommendations against key deviations was quite weird as there were sometimes many chapters it could occur in and it wasn't given in the first or in any recognizeable chapter. I have a feeling this is just me being spoiled from some of my favorite opening books like Watsons "Play the French" or Gallagher's "Play the King's Indian", but I think these two books are good models for theoretical works at most levels. There is always a give an take between just having pure trees and splitting the material up in some logical fashion, but I think the editors should have erred on the side of the pure trees as while they can sometimes be overwhelming they are much easier to use.

There have been several good books written on the Sveshnikov. The last -- and a masterpiece in its own right -- was titled, "The Complete Sveshnikov Sicilian", by Yakovich. It was published in April 2003, and hence has begun to show its age in this ultra-sharp opening.
Now one of the world's leading authorities on the Sveshnikov -- Dorian Rogozenko -- has come out with his own monograph on the opening. At 340 pages, with virtually no "white space", and filled to the brim with refernces to recent games (2002-2005), as well as lucid verbal explanations, this book will become the bible of Sveshnikov players for the next few years.

This book is pritty good as it tells you about the actors life before Dawsons Creek. Although some of the imformation is boring and drags on, some of it is realy interesting. I love to impress my friends with the Dawsons Creek knolage that I got from this book. This is a must-have for all Dawsons Creek fans,but if your not realy in to it I wouldent bother reading it.

Ok, Ok...We know that it wasn't the BEST DC book ever...ONLY because this book is for people who NEEDED to "Meet the Stars" I personally am an absolute DC obsesser sooo I knew most of that info already. But for those of you who ARE looking to "meet the stars" it's great. (EVERYONE should read the new, original series...Long Hot Summer (DC Series) only took me a few hours. It was great!)
