All the news that's not fit to print! Browse through this fascinating compendium of the best of the Weekly World News and you'll never look at the world the same way again.

Admit it. You've sneaked a peek at the supermarket checkout. Where else could you find the scoop on which senators are aliens, or Saddam and Osama's torrid love affair? Serious newshounds know the Weekly World News (which counts over a million beings as readers) broke the story that Elvis still lives, but it also has exclusives on what kind of pizza was served at Jesus' last supper, who's the father of the Loch Ness monster's baby, and (of course) the various escapades of Bat Boy, the half man/half bat found in a West Virginia cave almost 15 years ago. For the dedicated follower of the fantastic, and for the uninitiated too, Bat Boy Lives! contains all these vital dispatches and much more. Because the truth...is in here.

        5 out of 5 stars So funny.......2007-09-06

My dad loved this book...he used to collect the newspapers to get his students interested in reading something...anything!

5 out of 5 stars set your faces to stun.......2007-08-09

This and the Holy Bible are the only two books you need.

I continue to be baffled why folks believe The New York Times but not the Weekly World News. The WWN has *never* had to print a retraction or correction. It is the journalistic standard to which the Columbia Review of Journalism should benchmark.

Modern documentation off what Old Scratch is up to.

You may want to get a copy of "Let's Pave the Stupid Rainforest and Give Teachers Stun Guns."

5 out of 5 stars Weekly Word News Lives on in this WONDERFUL book. .......2007-07-30

Heard the Weekly World News isn't going to be publishing it's funny newspaper anymore. Was so sorry to hear this. Always loved reading the headlines as I waited in the grocery store line. Maybe should have purchased the paper every time I laughed at a headline and they'd still be in business. This book brings all the top of the tops in Weekly World News back. VERY well produced and all the articles will make you laugh out loud.

From President Clinton's 3 breasted intern to blobs from space eating farmer's trucks it's all here.

        HIGHLY recommended.

        5 out of 5 stars A zany presentation.......2007-01-07

It's hard to easily categorize BAT BOY LIVES!: it's a humor title which also is based on the Weekly World News gossip publication's impossible, sensationalist headlines - and it provides tongue-in-cheek commentary on celebrities, culture, politics, alien abductions and more within its pages of 'impossible events'. Black and white photos blend with 'truths' to make for a zany presentation indeed.

This tabletop book is 6 chapter of "Best of" the WWN. While some of my all time favorates are there, some importiant "News" articles are missing.

For those with a weird sense of humor and that have not heard of the WWN this book provides an ideal introduction to the unique features WWN. Those that are long term followers, this book will bring back memories of some of WWN shining moments.

        Book Description

Remember the 80’s? The Virgin Encyclopedia of 80's Music is a complete handbook of information and opinion about the history of the most fragmented and frequently maligned decade in the history of popular music. Here are 1000 entries on the bands, musicians, songwriters, producers and record labels – everyone who had a significant impact on the development of rock and pop music in those ten years, from the New Romantics who brought colour and image to fill the gap left by punk and the new wave, to the stadium acts who provided a launch pad for Live Aid, to the myriad variations of house and techno spawned in the latter half of the Eighties. As well as all the giants of the period the encyclopedia has the range and depth to include artists who flourished briefly and yet were quintessential to the decade. A perfect mix of fact and informed opinion contained in one single volume, distilled from the Encyclopedia of Popular Music, universally acclaimed as the world’s leading source of reference on rock and pop history.

        Informed, infatuating and invaluable.

4 out of 5 stars A comprehensive review of pop and rock 80's music.......2006-03-26

The book is a detailed guide of most significant artist of pop and rock music of the 80's. For each entry, it gives you a brief history of the artist or group, their discography with comments on the different albums(including albums that fall out of the 80's decade), and further reading to obtain more information. Perhaps, it is slightly too British music-orientated

        5 out of 5 stars Totally awesome!.......2003-05-17

If you love the 80s, this book will leave you breathless. There are over 1000 entries in here from big name bands down to ones you've never heard of - but all of them from the tubular decade. This book is now in the 3rd edition, so you can trust that any misinformation or typos have been corrected.

Each entry has dates, facts about the artist(s), ratings on their albums, and a discography.

Other books on the subject of 80s music are going out of print fast, so be sure to pick it up while you can. Great value for the money. Great bathroom reading. Learn something new every day!

          Book Description

This book reflects the move in Human Computer Interaction studies from standard usability concerns towards a wider set of problems to do with fun, enjoyment, aesthetics and the experience of use.

Traditionally HCI has been concerned with work and task based applications but as digital technologies proliferate in the home fun becomes an important issue. There is an established body of knowledge and a range of techniques and methods for making products and interfaces usable, but far less is known about how to make them enjoyable.

Perhaps in the future there will be a body of knowledge and a set of techniques for assessing the pleasure of interaction that will be as thorough as those that currently assess usability. This book is a first step towards that. It brings together a range of researchers from academia and industry to provide answers. Contributors include Alan Dix, Jacob Nielsen and Mary Beth Rosson as well as a number of other researchers from academia and industry.

            5 out of 5 stars Indispensible.......2007-01-04

For a serious or even casual card/game player, this is simply one book you cannot do without. You can very easily and simply handle any dispute by refering to the very comprehensive rules. Want to learn how to play a new game. The book tells all.

3 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Rules but Little Expert Advice.......2003-05-15

Frey (the author) provides the rules and history for an impressive, although not exhaustive, list of card, board and casino games. He succinctly describes the history and the rules of each game. The rules are written fairly clearly, although those who are not familiar with the proper jargon may find them difficult to follow. Moreover, Frey provides almost no "expert advice on winning play" as the subtitle of the book promises. Advice on strategy is reserved to only a handful of games and, when provided, it is too short and commonsense to enhance anyone's play. You may wish to purchase this book as a general reference on the rules of the game, but do not expect it to improve your play.

2 out of 5 stars Difficult to understand.......2002-05-26

I found this book quite difficult to understand. It has too much jargon, and the instructions to the games are sometimes unclear. There is no glossary. It seems to be aimed at an audience that is already familiar with most of the games.

            5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2000-10-30

A great read for anyone interested in cards. I managed to pretend to my friends that I knew nothing about cards before cleaning them out after reading this book...

The definitive reference for home games, this particular edition covers everything from Poker to Scrabble (the gaming juggernaut of the time) to Old Maid to Chess to Canasta. Nostalgia is probably the only reason to get this edition; in it's day, it was comprehensive but by now, many of the games listed have fallen out of public favor, while new games have been invented. The advice on winning play for each game is helpful, but also fairly basic for any enthusiast. I suppose the only reason to get this book is if you're collecting Hoyle books, or game books. It's intrinsic value has diminished over the years.

From the supplier: British children's books are often heavily edited by American publishers for vocabulary, spelling and cultural differences. Books with illustrations that cannot be easily Americanized, such as left-side driving automobiles, may not make it to the US. Typical changes and editors' reasons are discussed.

From the supplier: US children's book publishers are producing less translations from other languages and increasingly Americanizing British books, for fear of losing young readers. British editors believe their US counterparts underestimate US children, but nonetheless choose books partly for their exportability.
