The publication VISUAL PARADOX takes a critical look at photography's credibility as a simulacrum or a bona-fide representation of the truth. It challenges our common perception of the photograph as an unassailable representation of reality by presenting the work of contemporary American artists who call attention to the medium's inherently paradoxical nature--its ability to engage in outrageous fictions while preserving a demeanor of objectivity and truth. VISUAL PARADOX leads one through the rebellious early years of staged or directorial photography in the 1960s and into the burgeoning of such activities in the 1970s and 1980s. The publication also features both early and recent examples of conceptual photography, images that question the nature of photographic representation as well as the mechanisms of human perception. This was a very delightful book, and it had me laughing throughout the entire thing. I loved it! Definitely a must read if you have a difficult mother-in-law!

Cute, a funny gift.......2006-10-22

This book is definately not a self help book. I frankly found it humorus to read some of these other women's stories. If you're looking for something to improve your relationship, this isn't the book. If you looking for something kind of funny to laugh at all the silly things other people's MILDEW do, this is. I think it would make a fantastic gift for a wedding shower or bachelorette party.

Don't waste your time........2006-08-11

I thought this book was horrible. If all you want to do is laugh about the problem instead of trying to correct it, then maybe this book is for you. However, I found the stories mean and not funny at all.

The quizzes they had in there were far from helpful. I couldn't even relate to many because they reference TV shows I have never personally seen, not to mention situations that are so superficial it makes you wonder whether or not it is the mother-in-law that actually has the problem. Some of us have to work and have children with no time to sit and watch television or worry about petty squibbles; we are trying to deal with the "real" family situations that allow people to rise up and create a good family environment.

The only thing I could find in the book that made me slightly laugh were some of the quotes from famous people. Other than that, the authors failed attempt at success makes me wonder if they do anything to try to make their mother-in-law situations any better or are just being cruel at their mother-in-law's and husband's expense.

This is a book lacking in compassion, with no attempt to understand the issues involved in a diffcult, but potentially correctible relationship. It's mean and vindictive, and not as funny as the authors think it is. Let's hear from them when they become mothers-in-law themselves. Interested families should read other, more helpful books that will alleviate, not exacerbate problems with cruelty.

Wonderful pictures, and it provides a fantastic insight of the Superman Returns movie which I had the privilege of going to see at the movie theatre today. It only came out in the UK today and I must have been one of the first to see it.

It was breathtaking. A must see for all Superman fans.

For any Superman follower it's a must buy, and I can't wait until I can buy the DVD. I have asked Amazon to let me know when it becomes available.

As far as the book goes, it is a good buy because although it has lots of info, it doesn't give the story away.

Exactly what you'd want.......2006-07-06

This book is not meant to be an in-depth look at the making of a major motion picture. Rather, it's a book that's about 75% pictures. And really, that's exactly what the fans want. We've been lucky enough to follow the production of this film from Day 1 via Bryan Singer's video diaries (bluetights.net). We've seen how the film was made, and further documentaries will explain it even further. It's just wonderful to sit back and look at the details of the beautiful finished product, and this book delivers. I found myself dwelling on each page, like it was an art book. Considering the great price here on Amazon, if you're big enough of a fan to be on this page, there's no reason that buying this book now won't be worth it!

Superman Returns: The Official Movie Guide = Real Collector's Item.......2006-06-07

I bet you've been thinking whether or not you should purchase "Superman Returns: The Official Movie Guide"...seeing that the film scheduled to be released on June 28th (originally scheduled for June 30, 2006) is just 3 short weeks away.

I got the opportunity to read the guide, and it was a magnificent and mesmerizing quick-read; with pages upon pages of beautiful photography from the film (admittedly for those of you who've spent the last year following the film's production via the internet...some/most of these photos (and information) may not be new to you; but for the uninitiated, you're in for a fabulous treat.

The guide starts with a humble and heartfelt introduction by the director [Bryan Singer]. After that you're taken on a brief journey into the comic book history of the character (for those of you not fully aware of the character's origin outside of the original 1978 Richard Donner film [Superman The Movie] for which Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns" is vaguely branched).

Throughout the rest of the guide, you'll be treated with "glimpses" into, and "interviews" from, cast and crew. This book, very simply lays out the natural progression of the film's story without revealing (too many) key details in plot.

Bottom line...as the years pass, I predict this will be a seriously sought after collector's item. So buy it soon (or now)...before someone on "Amazon Marketplace", "Ebay", or some "other seller" in the next 20 years tries to sell you a used copy of it for $300.00.

Enjoy the Guide...it is a MUST HAVE.

This is a good book! It comes with nice themes, snacks, games, and crafts. A few ideas could have been better, but overall AG did a great job. I am planning a slumber party and this book has helped. I recommend you check this book out from the library before actually buying it.

Great Book.......2005-08-14

This is a great book to use if your having a sleepover. It gives you tons of ideas for yummy treats, fun games, and cool decorations. I would buy this book right away if your going to have a sleep-over. For my 10th birthday I used this, and it was really helpful. Everyone really enjoyed making to treats. The only thing bad about this book is that it's not long enough!!!

First of all, i just want to say that i enjoy most of the American Girl library, and that this one is no different. The food sounds great[read the book and you'll understand TOTALLY what i mean]but i have not found much time to make any of it.
Still, they could have been abit more detailed. And i will admit some of the games were EXTREMELY pointless and immature for my agegroup.

Overall, reccomended for ages 8-11

I am 14 years old and i thought that this book was great. At first, I expected it to be only for little kids. But, me and my friends thoroughly enjoyed it. I know, and all of my friends agree that I had the best slumber party ever because of that book! So, in other words, go out and buy that book. It is awesome.
