Interesting Coffee Table Collection.......2002-05-15

The photographs of mothers and daughters in this book are well done and interesting, covering a pretty broad spectrum of humankind. I thought the inclusion of daughters with photos of their deceased mothers was not a great idea and would have preferred to have additional selections of extant mothers and daughters, but it is a small caveat. All in all, a nice collection.

A wonderful gem!.......2004-02-19

"Grief was like a flower, opening in the mouth"...so goes the prose of this wonderful writer. This book was just written so beautifully, it can break your heart and make you smile all at the same time. The insight to a suicidal/depressed mind is amazing. I've never read a more true graphic account of the feelings one must be going through on either side of suicide. Don't let the content put you off however, the journey of this book is worth the effort. One of my new top five faves.

I picked up the book on a whim at my local bookstore and couldn't put it down until I finished reading it. Kelly describes in such vivid detail depression from a victim's point of view. Makes one understand more compassionately those who suffer from this terrible disease.

This is the best book about depression I've ever read. It rang the most true to me, the most real. Dwyer has a knack for getting at our most human emotions. And, like her first book, Tracks of Angels, it was incredibly beautifully written. I loved it.

Dwyer is such a good writer. Without the slightest whiff of urban anomie or slick cynicism, she handles language with supple, assured deftness, creates living, breathing characters for whom much is at stake, in the old-fashioned sense, and I mean this as a great compliment. I couldn't put this book down until the closing line. I might have wished for a stronger ending, but this is my only quibble.

I eagerly anticipate Ms Dwyer's next published work. I enjoyed reading Tracks of Angels and wholeheartedly recommend Self Portrait With Ghosts. I found it a rich tapestry of emotions readily related. If her first novel were a gingerbread cookie, then this, her second, would be a gingerbread house filled with edible furniture. Yumm!

The reputation of Uncle John, despite all his trips to the bathroom remains untarnished. This is where it's at when it comes to weird facts, pointless trivia and astounding information.

Great for starting conversations and suprising friends, -bad- for writing term papers ("Jake, you cited that Pontius Pilate is from England from 'The Bathroom Reader'?" "Uhh, yeah.").

But as long as you don't write a paper you should be fine. I treasure this book, along with its other companions, in my hallowed grounds (a shelf next to the toilet), a great gift. Period.

I bought this book for my husband last year as a Christmas gift.. it is STILL in our bathroom. We have read and re-read it time and again. This year I'm getting another one. It makes a great gift and believe it or not.. very interesting conversations. Oh ya, and tons of laughs! definately 5 stars.. if not higher.

Highly entertaining. This book is filled with more pedantic and esoteric material than you can imagine. I couldn't recommend it higher. In fact, I recommend it to all my friends as a great book for airplane trips, waiting around, and even a coffee table book.

I have all the bathroom readers and this one, in my view, is the best one so far. If you liked the others, you'll like this one. And if you don't have any of the others, this is a good place to start.

Very Wordy...........2006-02-01

The title says it all, "For Experts". If you just want to learn how to play, without all the technical terms, this book is not for you. There were 2 terms I was disappointed to have not seen. "Skunk" and "A skunk is 2 wins". I think every cribbage book should make that clear :)

At 96 pages, I wasn't expecting this to be so useful, but it doesn't waste pages explaining the rules and how to add up points. It assumes you already play cribbage, and concentrates on the area of the game in which the player has the most control, the play of the hand. If you want a book that does have the rules and basics, try Play Cribbage to Win by the same author, different publisher. And if you want to tackle really complex aspects of the game, try Winning Cribbage Tips and/or Miracles on 4th Street. They're all excellent.

David Bach provides helpful and realistic advice when it comes to money. He brings home the ways we all spend money on unimportant things and how if channeled in the right direction can yield a very comfy nest egg. It was GREAT to have it to listen to in the car. I've lent it out to several women so far and they are all big fans of it.

I haven't finished the book yet but so far so good! It's an easy read and I read it when I have time. Small enough to carry in a bad and take with me everywhere. So far I've learned alot and hope to finish it soon!

Women should read this book..........2007-09-05

My dad used to tell me that all I had to do was to marry a man and he will take care of me. I never bought into that and didn't get much more financial advice outside of that from him. This book offers some good advice. It is true that switching over my savings account to a higher interest earning account has more than paid for the cost of buying this book. It is more of a motivational book but has some good tips on how to get started for personal financial planning. When I talked to a financial planner he was surprised how much I knew about finance and what I wanted to do with my money. I also like what Bach has to say about educating future generations - what we need to teach our kids.

I would suggest that every woman read this book and not only read it but actually putting the priniciples into practice and making a plan for their finances.

This book really helped me to see how much I was on track and also showed me some areas that needed to be tweaked.

I purchased this book for my daughter who just graduated from college & began a career. It proved not only valuable to me as I plan for retirement but it's also a valuable tool for her as she sorts through managing a bugdet & planning a future. This book is written for women, in our language. I'd recommend it to other women.
