A Truly Amazing Work of Art.......2006-10-29
I first heard of this book while corresponding on the internet, and when I purchased the volume, I was immediately struck by the twin artistries which assailed my eyes - a selected group of beautiful drawings and paintings, and the mellifluousness of the descriptive prose which brought each work of art to life. The skill of the author, who is totally deaf herself, in making you feel that you are standing at the artist's elbow as each work is being painted, has to be an art form all by itself. As I read her cogent words, and examined each of the photographs, I could not help feeling that just as we marvel at the master works of such great musicians as Beethoven and Smetana, works composed when each was deaf; we must also stand in awe of such beauty produced by artists who lived in a hearing world, a world which often shunned the art of the deaf, and yet their magnificent works betrayed no sense of resentment or jealousy; just people and a world as they saw it, complete with clowns, society ladies, acrobats, deaf people, still lifes, barnyard inhabitants, and a lot of love. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who loves art, and sensitivity, because both are evenly portrayed in this beautiful volume.
The incredible sound of silence.......2004-09-30
A long overdue book. When are we finally going to appreciate the creative impetus of impaired dimensions? I am that I am. Whatever the Mind's Eye reflects onto the genius of Art, that is the corner of Infinite Ecstasy for the beholder!
I have personally known a NY deaf artist, who is well mentioned in this excellent book (Wildbank), and I found him extraordinary in all aspects with his sense of color, re-visualization, approach to subliminal sources of imagery: a feast of senses, where senses are not there in full. How can you not stand in awe?
The illusionism of the images presented in this book works because it reflects the vision of artists envisaging through another plane of appraisal. Artists here so carefully construct the perceived space, create the sense of texture in objects, and naturalistically render light effects that the viewer feels immediately drawn into that world.
Wildbank for instance provides me with acceptance of his work's existence as a matter of course. My overriding sense in looking at his production is that if illusionism exists here, it is to be found in the Mind, not in the reality it reflects.
The artificial constructs of certain paintings presented in this books are dynamically charged in space and are convincing because of the realistic character of the light and textural effects the artists create, that can only be engedered by a different perceptual stance. Colors range from the deep reds, blues, and blacks in the shadows to the very light, almost pastel tones of the summarily indicated patterns on sunlit and receding planes along top and left edges.
In many instances the artists presented accent the textural characteristics of their painted objects through the way light hits their surfaces. You can comprehend the interest of a deaf artist in the interaction of light with such objects, when silence dominates everything else around them. Upon examining these light effects, one realizes not only how carefully the artist observes its various characteristics, but also how he uses them selectively and creatively. By selectively eliminating shadows, at times the artist minimizes the temporal quality of the light entering the painting. The shadows create the semblance of reality while minimizing the transitory nature of the moment.
A must read for the discovery of silent creative auras.

Redneck Humor and Pride in Deluxe Foxworthy Package.......2007-06-15
This week's local paper led with our local school transportation director being verbally reprimanded after an email mocking "rednecks" snaked to his boss's email box. Among other things it called a shopping cart over a campfire a "redneck grill" and two guys throwing toilet seats at each other "redneck horseshoes."
"The e-mail system should be for business only! This is a business, it isn't a playground!" the school superintendent (a native West Virginian) thundered, echoing Milburn Drydsdale's pompously commanding his Commerce Bank minions. To which the transportation director replied, no doubt with Jed Clampett's modesty, "I consider myself (a redneck). I was born and raised in the mountains of North Carolina."
Thank blue collar comic Jeff Foxworthy, and hilarious one-liner collections like this, for these disparate views. Foxworthy's a Southerner and ex-computer programmer who struck black comedy gold focusing on proud, peculiar Southern peccadilloes: messy households, (sometimes too) strong family ties, minor law scrapes, regional dialects and slang. He turned their lives into a cottage industry with best-selling CDs, TV series, films, even a satellite radio channel atop one of comedy's most reliable concert tours.
The book's title sets up each joke in its 314 pages, focusing on redneck families ("If you cried the day your son tapped his first keg...") cars ("If you ever gift wrapped a tire...")and fashions ("if your wedding dress was leather.."), at work ("if the family business requires a lookout") in love ("if you used food stamps on a date") and outdoors ("if you've ever sent fan mail to a fishing lure")
"You Might Be A Redneck If.." isn't a book read cover to cover, but dipped into for tongue-in-cheek humor (and equally funny David Boyd illustrations) with the tobacco. (By the way, "if Red Man sends you a Christmas card..."). And laughing aloud or smiling in recognition, you may envy redneck resourcefulness (" If you clean your home with a water hose...") and unpretentiousness (...you ever slow danced at a Waffle House) which made their working-class lives content. It boosted that school transportation chief's pride, and once led Charlie Daniels to salute rednecks in song: "Now you intellectuals may not like it/But there ain't nothin' that you can do/Cause there's a whole lot more of us common-folks/Then there ever will be of you." (But remember chief, "if your chicken house used to be a school bus...")
Webster defines "redneck" as "a white member of the white Southern rural laboring class." Introducing this book, Foxworthy defines it as a "glorious absence of sophistication." To superintendent chagrin, and student, parent, and even blue-collar employee pride, this book confirms Foxworthy's definition funnier and more accurate. Recommended.

"If it ain't broke ,it ain't ours.".......2005-07-10
The more of this Redneck humor I read, the more I enjoy it.I have written reviews on several Redneck and Southern Humor books;but none are better than what the author of this gem,Jeff Foxworthy, gives us.
The layout of the book, the wonderful illustrations and all the one-liners result in a book that is great to sit back with "a cool one" and have some great laughs.
The author has come up with a great way to introduce these one-liners;that would be:
You might be a Redneck if....
"You use your daughter's wedding as an excuse to buy a new
shotgun."
"You've ever done your Christmas shopping at a truck stop."
"You can take your bra off while driving."
"You talk to your dog more than your wife."
"Your mother does not remove the Marlboro from her lips before
telling the State Patrolman to k--- her a--."
"You've ever thrown up in a squad car."
"You take your dog for a walk and you both use the tree at
the corner."
"You've ever vacationed in a rest area."
"You've ever worn shorts to a funeral home."
"You got your nose broken at your sister's wedding."
"Truckers tell your wife to watch her language."
"Your gene pool doesn't have a 'deep end'."
"You proposed at Denny's."
"You had a marriage license before you had a driver's license."
"You said your wedding vows while watching a football game
out of the corner of your eye."
"You learned the facts of life by watching dogs."
"Getting your car inspected means paying a bribe."
And that is just a taste of what you'll find in this book.It isn't stated;but there are somewhere between 1300 and 1500 of these one-liners for your enjoyment.
If you like earthy humor, you'll love this book.

this is not a hardcover book and is lacking the real music !.......2003-10-12
this is a paperback version and not this non-music reading version. look closely at the top of the books image. This is a "EZPLAY" version. It has juvenile jumbo notes in this version and only has the vocal notes --- no real chords or chord charts. beware if youre wanting the guitar, piano and vocal version. THIS IS NOT THE SAME BOOK.

Any guides by brady Games is good..........2007-09-12
The best guides the buy are by Brady Games...they are the most helpful when stuck in a game...they stend to include lots of picures unlike some of the other guides. The signature series look espicially sharp!
Not one of the best but gets you through.......2006-08-30
I'm not a big fan of stradegy guides. But I sure know what's a good one. This book has alot of tips and good boss stradegies, such as enemy data and HP, type weakness, break zones, etc. However, I feel uncomfortable with the layout of the maps and how the key works. It's a bit confusing. Especially with the location of the items and sometimes I wonder why the GS quests couldn't have been put at the end of each section instead of making me flip all the way back to the book. It's a hassle there because most, if not all new proceedings in the next stage, a couple of new GS campaigns are avalible and it's very annoying to always flip to the back of the book and wondering which GS route you have to do.
Also, there are confusing instructions making it almost impossible to find out what they're trying to make you do. Those are just one of the two major things that irks me. (It's not that bad but it's still confusing if you skip the key.) All in all, it gets you through the game, has amazingly good heads-up on notes you should keep in mind, and it has a lovely fold out poster. But I think you can get through the game just fine without it, it's just that it gets you through puzzles quicker. I'm one of those people who really hates game puzzles.
Great Shape, Fast Shipping.......2006-07-27
I received the product in under a week after I ordered it. It was received in bubble wrap and is in very good condition; there weren't even any creases on the binding. I would not have expected to find a copy in a bookstore in this great a condition.
Quality and Quickness.......2006-07-26
I got this strategy guid because I love playing these video games. I could have bought the strategy guide for 16.99 in store, but I bought it cheaper through amazon even with the cost of shipping. I got it in a few days and it was in excellent condition. My hats off to everyone involved in sending my package.
Hits the important points.......2006-04-10
If you're like me, you don't always get the time to really sit and explore an RPG to it's fullest. Despite my best attempts at playing a game straight through without help, I always find information that proves that there was A LOT I missed out on.
The game guide for Xenosaga II is a big help. The game has a huge back story, and sometimes it's easy to get caught up in it and forget that you have a battle system to master and a strategy to work out. This is a good guide to walking you through some of the basics of using the battle system, which is completely different from the first game.
What I liked best about this guide is that you usually get a really good solid strategy for boss fights. Although whoever wrote this guide must have not had the struggle I had with a few bosses. A lot of the main enemies you fight are pretty tough, and it's really easy for your party to suffer some serious losses, and the guide doesn't offer much advice for survival.
If you're not sure what an area is going to be like, this guide may give you a few pointers as to who would be best for the party based on their general skills. There are also a few pointers on the best way to customize your characters, although I found that they didn't recommend a few abilities for some characters that I felt were very important.
One frustrating thing is that there are 3 hidden bosses in the game, and the book only mentions them and gives NO INFORMATION on their stats, only where to find them. These bosses are the hardest that you'll fight in the game, and it's a real pain to have to restart over and over again when you get beaten to a pulp in less than a minute. You'll have to go online and search yourself for the most useful information on these bosses.
The book does offer a good, detailed walkthrough for the Robot Academy Scenario. There is also information on the Segment Addresses, the G.S. campaign, and a list and description of abilities, items and Ethers. Their side quest information is good and the best source for those who want to complete EVERYTHING in a game.
Overall, it's a good game guide. Not the best, but still a good item to have if you're playing the game and getting frustrated.

Great guide! Great game!.......2005-09-26
Very good guide with little flaws! The only thing that the guide missed was that it did not inform you to protect yourself from "instant KO" from the Demon enemy inside Proto Merkabah! Other than that it was great. Good boss strategies, good pictures/ illustrations and directions if you get lost on where to go. very accurate and complete lists of all items/abilities/accessories. This guide explains the basics of the game very thoroughly also so it is useful in that sense and if you bought the game used like I did or if you rent games, in which my copy did not have the instruction manual, you can get all the necessary info from this guide! So, I definitely recommend this guide to anyone who wants to get the most from this great game! Also, guide gives good explanation and rewards from the games side quests and games.
Great Guide.......2005-08-05
I think everything to know about xenosaga episode 1 is in this guide. I'm just about ready for episode 2 and I'll get the guide for that too.
One of Dan Birlew's better Strategy Guides.......2004-02-04
I recommend this strategy guide to those who plan on playing the game. It is true that you can beat the game without a guide. However, the game has plenty of side quests and important (but optional) items to collect that the chances of you finding them all is very unlikely without some sort of guide.
Also, the characters in the game are highly customizable. Meaning, you can manipulate their attributes to your preference. The problem is that the process for doing that is not readily obvious. And there are many ways to go about doing so. Some "bonus" items will be impossible to obtain accidentally, and some require that you make certain decisions, in the right order, in the right place, at the proper time. This strategy guide will help you get the most out of the game.
My only minor complaint is that the quality of the paper used in the cover could have been better. And that criticism also apply to most of the newer game guides out there. I prefer the covers to be made of heavier weight material, for example. I am picky, perhaps, because I collect these guides.
A MAJOR Help!.......2004-01-20
As far as strategy guides go, I'm more concerned with how its going to get me through the game, and also if it can get me through the game with ease. That's the MAIN point of a guide is to get you through the game. The Xenosaga Official Strategy Guide does this with ease. There are a couple of gripes present but otherwise very nice.
The first thing I noticed about the guide were the first about 60 pages of the guide are dedicated to a few of the miscellaneous things. The game basics and such. This may not seem like much but the guide explains the basics of the game a lot more clearly than the instruction booklet does.
Character profiles are great. They tell you when characters learn techs in an easy to use chart and they also give a small bio for them without spoiling what their main role is in the quest!
An weapon/armor/item list is availible. Easy to use table that tells you what you should buy and what you probably shouldn't. We all know that in Xenosaga you could spend quite a bit of money and you don't get much. This guide will help you save your money.
A.G.W.S data for them all. This also suggest what you should and shouldn't buy for them, as well as who should pilot them and what attacks you should focus on using.
The walkthrough was perhaps the most helpful part of this guide. This is where a couple of my small gripes come in but believe me they're very small. The walkthrough is easy to use and here's a nice thing to do in using this guide, while a movie scene from the game is playing take the time to read the guide. You'll notice that a lot of the info is extremely helpful.
Most noticeable are the boss strategies. These are VERY helpful strategies but this is where my first gripe with the guide comes in. The boss strategies are extremely helpful on offense. It's great to know what you can do to the boss but it would also be nice if they told me what the boss could do to me in return. Other than that these strategies are unbeatable.
Before you begin each section you'll see a list of enemies, maps with a very handy key, and a step-by-step objective and items list. VERY helpful walkthrough.
My second gripe is minor depending on how you use the guide. The screenshots aren't always clear. Some are rather fuzzy (the smaller ones). It's also nice that with each new area you come to there are mini-bios for the characters who you'll meet there. So the guide is very imformative. The best part? The guide has NO spoilers to the amazing story that unfolds!
Now for those mini-games, side-quests and secrets. The guide will help you to understand the mini-games and play them to success. If you're like me you don't play mini-games much. The guide also covers just about every secret and sidequests there is, again it doesn't spoil the plot.
Clearly this is an extremely helpful guide. You'll love the guide. It's great to use for the game. Just remember that you won't know what to expect from EVERY boss (there's one that can kill you in one hit and the guide WON'T point it out).

Book Description
Jack Benny, Jackie Gleason, Milton Berle, Lucille Ball, Walter Winchell, Walter Cronkite--the giants of the airwaves, with all their quips, quotes, foibles, and insights, have now been gathered together in one delightful book. Peter Hay, best-selling author of Broadway Anecdotes and Movie
Anecdotes, has collected stories of journalists and jokesters, inventors and investors, sportsmen and sponsors, presidents and producers, providing a riotous ride through the whole history of radio and television.
By turns hilarious and insightful, these anecdotes offer revealing portraits of the personalities behind the scenes. Here, for instance, is the origin of Jackie Gleason's nickname (Gleason once was reciting Shakespeare on demand for Orson Welles, then switched with ease to Aeschylus, leading
Welles to call him "the Great One"). Hay gives us stories from every area of the topsy-turvy world of radio and television. What was the ratings system in the days before Nielsen? One early broadcaster would name individual radio-set owners on the air and ask them to call if they were listening;
later, Amos 'n' Andy became so popular that the New York water department noticed a sharp drop in pressure as seemingly the entire city rushed to the bathroom during commercial breaks. There is memorable fan mail: A Frenchwoman once wrote a British announcer, "I am fervent of your emissions"; a
little girl wrote to Linda Ellerbee, "When I grow up I want to do exactly what you do. Please do it better." And Hay offers rousing examples of executive courage: The top brass at CBS, for example, congratulated Edward Murrow on his landmark expose on Senator McCarthy with, "Great Show, Ed. Sorry
you did it." Along the way, we see the wild improbabilities of the entertainment world. The title role of Columbo, immortalized by Peter Falk, was first offered to Bing Crosby; and the first TV interview with the victorious Fidel Castro in 1959 was conducted by Tonight Show host Jack Paar: Castro
offered to sell him Batista's mansion, but Paar looked at Castro's beard and asked for the Norelco shaving concession instead. And Hay highlights the role of the broadcast media in the great events of our century, from the impact of FDR's "Fireside Chats" to LBJ's reflection that when he lost
Walter Cronkite's confidence in the war in Vietnam, he lost Middle America.
In Broadway Anecdotes, Theatrical Anecdotes, and Movie Anecdotes, Peter Hay has shown that he has an ear for good stories and a gifted voice for retelling them. In this volume, he gathers the greatest tales of the classic age of radio and television and beyond, from Marconi to Monty Python's
Flying Circus, offering endless insight, enjoyment, and laughter.
