The essential overview of feminist art history.......2000-06-08
This is essential reading for anyone interested in feminist art history. It was one of the earlier scholarly compliations of critical articles concerning issues in visual representation of women as subject and by women as artists. Ranging from a study of images of women in Greek art, to an analysis of the psycho-social motivations of 20th century Expressionism, to an investigation of American quilting and its influence on contemporary art, each essay contributes to our understanding of paradigms which are basic in forming a new context-- a context which is needed to re-examine the white, Western male canon of standard art histories. The essays also provide a fundamental vocabulary for investigation of specific works, and aptly balance the feminist positions about art with vital, challenging interpretations of cultural conditions and biases which have affected our perception of gender and the place of art in societies over time. The introduction by the editors defines the content, nuance and strategy of the feminist art historical project and is as pertinent today as it was twenty years ago. I would recommend this book as a useful starting point for research and education; and for students, teachers or anyone willing to cast off the blinders of assumed histories.

Fanfare for the Onion.......2006-03-19
Even though I pick one up every week I still get the annual compilations since they can preserve the timely and timeless comedy of America's Finest News Source.
Essays of Hilarious Insanity!.......2005-04-24
Once again, Editors Carol Kolb and Robert Siegel produce a hilarious collection of "newsworthy" crap. Volume 15 is no less funny than the previous volumes and it is the essence of clever, yet mind boggling nonsense that makes a great gift for the bored or the obsessive reader. There is no end to the hundreds and hundreds of amazing stories and that can be a blessing or a curse to read. If you enjoy having a 264 page book of completely sacrilegious and hilarious news articles, this is your baby! Collect them all and then check yourself into the nearest sanitarium!
Keeps you laughing for hours... great gift.......2004-11-14
If you like the humor of the National Lampoon or Saturday Night Live you will love this book. I laughed out loud at several pages.
For any humor book there are some duds but they are few and far between with this excellent book.
This is the type of book you will want to read aloud to friends.
Some poor taste and not PC which is what makes it great.
Enjoy!
Another great compilation.......2004-10-03
The Onion has been on my favorites list for many years. Who else is able to come out with a heaping helping of hilarity every week and stay as consistently original, literate, and sophisticated as these folks? Not many. For those of you expecting low-brow spoofs, you might be surprised, but I think that ultimately, you will enjoy it. The Onion is similar to a print version of The Daily Show, for all of you fans out there. There are contributing columnists (especially hilarious is a certain accountant gangsta') and parodies of current events, politics, celebrities, and culture. The principal difference is, perhaps, the flat-out invention of news stories to achieve this end, while Jon Stewart prefers to mock the newsmakers. Both approaches work, and if you like one you'll probably like the other. This anthology contains an entire year of Onion hilarity (for about 15 bucks--what a deal). Samples of the Onion's headlines: Cheney enters Presidential race himself (but he's still on the ticket with Bush), Kerry selects 1968 version of self as running mate, McDonalds to remove the "Hammurderer" from its promotional material (the "Grapist" is also going to have to go), etc. I could tell you more, but I think my point is made. Get the book...please.

Fun weekend read if you are a movie buff........2002-09-28
I enjoyed this book if, for nothing more than it is refreshing to read something that doesn't extoll the cinematic masterpiece all film books seem to call their subjects.
While some of the choices may seem harsh, I must agree with most of them, (I will even admit to hating myself for the fact I can watch Grease 2, even though it is an undeniably bad film!) and some just made me cackle with delight. (The chapter on 'A Star is Born' is chock full of painful truth!) And I was surprised to find some films in there (The 10 Commandments...but I like his arguments).
I recommend this book for an enjoyable read, but not as a serious film reference.
Very Funny and Insightful Work........2002-04-29
Michael Sauter is a very good writer. Their are so many books anymore on the best movies of all time that is person decided to write a book that was totally the opposite. One of my favorite parts is were he attacks all of the fallow ups horror movies like Friday the 13th and Halloween have spawd. I have never heard anyone do a better job of making fun of somthing.
Typical.......2001-10-14
I hated this book. It's a typical mainstream look at "bad movies". There isn't much good information for the well read movie fan. Now some of the movies in the book may be truly bad, but they aren't the kind of joyfully bad movies you'd want to go back and visit.
The author even makes factual errors while telling you about a relative easy target as Godzilla.
Avoid
Delightful and Fun Reading........2001-03-02
As a movie buff, I read just about everything I can get my hands on containing to movies. When I first saw this book, I thought to myself, "All right! A book devoted to bad movies!". I found this book to be quite entertaining. The introduction explaining what makes a movie bad should be a must read for anyone who thinks that only Ed Wood and Roger Corman can make a bad movie. The sections following each movie listed proved to be both entertaining and informative; giving a description of the film, how the movie was made, and what went wrong. I learned a few tidbits of information and Hollywood history that I had never heard before. Of course, Michael Sauter is biased in his views especially when it comes to the great Cecil B. DeMille and Bruce Willis, but those biases don't cause a distraction. Overall a delightful, fun, and entertaining book.
Good,could be better.......2000-04-02
Michael Sauter rounds up the usual suspects here-"Ishtar","Xanadu","Heaven's Gate",in fact,if you've read any of the Medved books, there's really no need to read this one, since it covers much of the same territory. You could quibble with some of his choices, for instance,he seems to have a thing against Bible movies.(Frankly,I find them just boring, not "Bad".)He even has the gall to pick on Jack Webb's movie "The D.I."!Come on now, that movie is a camp classic! The search for a murdered sand flea is priceless!I do give him credit, though, for including "Manos-The Left Hand of God" in his book.Believe me,this movie is appallingly bad!Next to this,"Plan 9" looks like "Gone with the Wind."

Falsettos- What's not to Love?.......2001-05-05
William Finn is a genius. He is the composer and lyricist of all 3 musicals in the 'Falsettos Trilogy'. This vocal selections book has highlights from the first and second musicals in the trilogy, March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland. There are 17 songs in all, which is a rather large amount. In this book are: The Baseball Game, A Day In Falsettoland, Everyone Hates His Parents, What More Can I Say, What Would I Do?, Something Bad Is Happening, Holding To The Ground, Unlikely Lovers, You Gotta Die Sometime, Father To Son, I'm Breaking Down, March Of The Falsettos, 4 Jews In A Room Bitching, Marriage Proposal, Making A Home, The Games I Play, and I Never Wanted To Love You. The lyrics are both touching and hysterical. The songs both develop the characters and show the genius of the composer. 'Four Jews Bitching' is a fantastic musical theatre piece for four males. I can't reccomend this book enough!!!

Prima's Zelda Windwalker Guide Book.......2006-09-28
The best ever,Prima's done it again...
Prima made winners of all us gamers with this guide.
All Around Good Walkthrough.......2006-03-14
First, let me state that this review should be considered only by those who play games for FUN.. This means, NOT those who play first person shooters online for 16 hours at a time, but those who play video games as a hobby, not a lifestyle; i.e. a few hours a week. Second, don't even consider this book if you're looking for help on the Ocarina of Time, because it won't help. Someone stated previously that it looks like a review out of a video game magazine, and their absolutely right. I've used an Ocarina book I got right here from Amazon for that game, and it was perfect..
On to the review: The game is GREAT, and the book certainly compliments that. I know the first thing potential buyers are looking for is PROBLEMS, so instead of pretending there aren't any, I'll hit those first.
The main problem here (as previously mentioned) is the organization of the book, and it all comes down to your playing style.. If you want to play the game yourself and only have the book as a reference for when you get stuck or for finding little extras, than it's perfect. However, if you want to have everything spelled out for you and not play the game at all without first consulting the book, than this probably isn't the right one for you.. It walks you through the quests for the first 3/4 of the book, and has little footnotes at the bottom of each page, referring you to the side-quests which are detailed towards the end of the book..
If you've played the game, then you know that it's a HUGE ocean, broken up into 49 different squares, with 49 different islands, and once you've passed a few preliminary tasks, the entire world is open to you to explore on your own.. In my experience with the game, this book worked PERFECTLY, because the best part was sailing around the map and stumbling upon new islands and landmarks on your own, without someone or something telling you where to go.. The book complimented this, because it has an entire section showing what you can do on each island, and how far into the game you need to be in order to accomplish each task. This is separate from the walkthrough, which details the actual quests, and not the hidden items and extra goodies available on each island. Again, the organization of the book may be a problem for some, but it will be perfect for others..
Otherwise, the problems are VERY minimal.. There are a few instances where the book will tell you something is worth 100 rupees (dollars) when in fact it's worth 200, or vice versa, but these are few and far between.. I'm 4/5 of the way through the game and I could count those mistakes on less than one hand..
The pictures are clear and crisp, and plenty large enough to see if you have the ability of sight, and the walkthrough itself is well written, inclusive, and comprehensive. It's gotten me through all of those spots where your just scratching your head wondering what to do next, but at the same time the game is simple enough that you should be able to get through the majority of it without help.. Besides, exploring the vast world they created is the best part of the game!
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).......2006-02-25
what can I say, it has everything I need to know and more. Its Good.
wake up the wind!.......2005-12-29
I just got Zelda-the Wind Waker for Christmas and it's a great game! Though this isn't the game, I'd think the book would be good too. You start out as Link to run to your grandma's house. You get dressed in the green uniform and you save a girl from a bird. The bird kidnapps your sister and then your story begins.I'll try to find the game to tell more about it.....
It's okay. A review by Princess Zelda.......2005-03-08
This book is not fabulous. I like it, but I had to figure most of the stuff out myself. It doesn't explain every little detail, but it did help me a little bit. Without it, I probably couldn't have finished the game, but it was a little hard to figure it out.

A good guide with one mistake.......2004-05-10
this guide has everything you need in it to complete the game fully exept that it has one mistake in it. in the list of all the heart pieces there is one listed twice and one missing. heart piece 43 should be at rock spire island and to get it you need to defeat the boats in the area and haul up the treasure they leave. one of them is a heart piece.
other then this it is a very good guide.
Well-done strategy guide.......2004-04-05
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is not an easy game to write a strategy guide for, considering how very many tangents and extra features there are in the game. But this book succeeds pretty admirably, walking you throught the tough parts step-by-step. The charts that cover such things as where to find Heart Pieces and Treasure Maps are especially helpful. The only problem with the book is that in a few places, it directs you to use more difficult methods than necessary to accomplish tasks - for example, it might tell you to use water jars to cool off lava to make a footpath (hard to do and usually gets you burned a few times) when you can simply use your grappling hook to swing across the lava with no problem. But overall, this book is pretty much a must for anyone with a Zelda: Wind Waker game.
I don't mean to insult the game.......2004-03-12
The game is great. Another Legend of Zelda has hit top grade and flew over the disappointing Majora's Mask. The game is quite easy, but having a guide for an adventure game isn't much so of an adventure. I love the game. I also appreciate that they made this guide, but i don't think too much of it.
I'm new with strategy guides..........2004-02-08
I don't use a lot of strategy guides, so my opinion might reflect my limited experience. But when we (my son and I) couldn't figure out what to do next or remember what we had already done in the WindWaker game, I decided to get the strategy guide. This guide is very well laid out and gives you needed information without spoiling the game for you. Half the fun of a Zelda game is the storyline, and this guide does not give away important plot development. Though I was able to find important items located on each island without having to return to the location over and over again. (And it does take a while to sail around the world in that little boat!) I found the guide well thought-out and an invaluable aid in my 'virtual' quest.
Another person commented about the lack of info on the Nintendo Gallery. I must agree about that. Though I have found (in my 4th play-through) that trying to get all those photos is a huge and fun challenge. This is just an added feature to give the game replay value. If you are dead bent on getting the details on the Nintendo Gallery, do a search online.
Overall, I would highly recommend this particular strategy guide.
