Brilliant fantasy artwork........2005-05-16
Bob Eggleton's artwork not only shows what an amazingly gifted artist he is but also demonstrates a breathtaking imagination. As the title of the book indicates, this is a book featuring paintings of alien landscapes, wonderful spacecraft and alien beings. It is hard to believe such detail has come purely from imagination and that these are not something the artist has seen in reality. With vibrant colours and perfection in even the minutest details these are pictures that a reader will want to look at time and time again. This is a wonderful book not only for fans of science fiction and fantasy but also for anyone who appreciates art.

Book Description

Since this is the second volume, Rei and Akira's adventure together became more exciting. I enjoyed reading this book because new surprises appears and their relationship seems to grow stronger. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes Yaoi.
Grows on you!.......2006-05-01
This series and its characters just grow on you. Vol 1 is good and Vo 2 is even better. Akira and Rei are adorable and their 2 "body-guards",whose short story holds promises for us Yaoi fans, are equally appealing. Another quirky character, Yuji (Akira's uncle)is introduced, spicing up an already addictive series. And I do like this mangaka's artwork, the facial expressions are amazingly lively. With the bankruptcy of Biblos (Japanese publisher of Our Kingdom), I hope this still running series in Japan will not be disrupted . Looking foward to the relationship development between our 2 boys in future volumes.

This book was just as good as the first one if not better. You fall in love with the characters even more and even see some insight to the ones your not really fond of. I loved this story and am eagerly awaiting the next volumes.

Just try to forget that he's the President..........2005-06-23
The Bushisms herein are hysterically funny, but also fascinating in what they reveal about how Bush thinks, and the things that he apparently does not know. It's certainly worth a read -- you'll find yourself sharing your favorites over and over. For your sense of well-being, though, I suggest you try to forget that he's the guy with the keys to our nuclear arsenal.
From time to time, my friends and I have engaged in imitating our president's, er, style. I recall when Bush finally admitted to having "miscalculated" when planning our post-invasion strategy in Iraq. I imagined he might make a statement like this:
"We may have misunderestimated the responsiveness our troops would receptively experience, which after all was commisserate with the disparaging between a nation guided by the Almighty, and cowardly killers that kill when faced by them, the troops, that is... um, by the Iraqis. Not all Iraqis... it's just that when we set out to do a job -- and I want to be very clear about this -- we did one, and if that means we have to take some militaristic action, I'm all for it, in terms of terror and what's necessary to disabling it combatively. I mean, if errors have to necessitatively be made with respect to our accuracy, then I'm all for it if, in the larger picture, the larger sense, I mean, when the questions of the future are asked about force and those who fought it in the name of peace, I will always, and I mean ALWAYS, say that I did, and I am very proud of every one of you to have representated the fight against it."
Can't get fooled again.......2005-03-16
The intro to this book provides a good background to what is a common and almost played-out joke--almost because Bush continues to break out new ways to use the English language with regularity.
Some of the quotes in here...I just can't understand it, and I would honestly be willing to believe that at this point, Bush is coached on some things, and his 'Bushisms' are not entirely accidental. They may even help him.
There is an effort to craft George W. Bush into another type of Ronald Reagan--a charismatic, amiable but clueless man who can deflect criticism elsewhere. After all, Reagan is a man who barely understood what was happening under his own administration. Bush, as far as vision and policy go, is pretty much irrelevant. He's a perfect choice for the party, acting like a mouthpiece, incapable of remembering what his handlers told him to recite, and yet gaining popular support because he's a 'manager' and a 'leader', etc, all piled on with enough rhetoric to satisfy the many folks who are actuall being shafted by the Prez and those who are really running things in Washington.
By the time Bush II is done, there may well be an encyclopedia set dedicated to his unique brand of English. In the end though, books like this are just novelty, and perhaps these days they are best left alone, so the morbidly curious can just check out websites like Slate that devote much space to cataloguing the wisdom of George W. Bush.

Hey coward...why do we have to use policy to defend this book? This is not made up...these are direct quotes of the Texas Village Idiot himself in action! It is not the author's fault that DUB-YA never learned to read or write!
I still find these quotes hysterical. ONLY THE BOOK THOUGH. The fact that this guy is really our president is discouraging to say the least.
I love the funny quotes but now I want a book that lists his LIES along with the accurate truths/facts right alongside!!

I used to laugh at Bush's verbal gaffes too, but seldom is the question asked, is there something wrong with the man? Has he fallen off the wagon? Is his brain fried? Mine would be if I kept up the party-boy lifestyle I had as a college undergrad until I was 40. Think about it, wouldn't your brain be toast too after decades of alcohol and possibly cannibus and poppi abuse? Consider, in the August 2004 timeframe alone, Bush:
> stammered some hysterically incomprehensible gibberish about tribal sovereignty to a group of native american journalists. Though it doesn't make for a good Bushism "sound byte" his incomprehensible, rambling, ad hoc answer was funny (there's a Quicktime video of this on the web...) Until you realize how remarkabley unprepared he was. His reply to a straightforward soft ball question also was offensive to native americans, who can actually be heard gasping in the background when his answer implied that native americans were "given" their sovereignty by the US government.
> Actually, really, said, "Our enemies will never stop seeking ways to harm our country and its people, AND NEITHER WILL WE!" durning a press conference where he signed a $400 billion plus dollar military appropriation. Doh!
> Last but not least, made a mega-freudian-faux pax on the campaing trail in front of thousands when he said something to the effect that... "we must not stop OB/GYN doctors from spreading their love of woman across the country." HA-HA-Huh?!
Bear in mind, these >all occured around a one month period<! Also consider that these gaffes come from professionally prepared, written speeches in most cases! All's he has to do is read off a frigg'n sheet of paper! Now, even if Bush was articulate there's a thousand reasons why I wouldn't vote for him. In fact, this will be the first presidential election I absolutely plan to vote in, I embarrassingly admit, ever! This administration has been an unmitigated disaster for this country. However, making its way up the "reasons against" column in terms of relative importance is the concern about the man's mental stability, and past substance abuse issues, as evident in these all too frequent "Bushisms". Is the guy mentally fit to be the leader of the free world? It's not like the list of Bushisms is half-a-dozen. There's enough material here, literally, for a book! These so-called "Bushisms" are symptomatic of far greater problems, at least to me, at this point. In fact, they explain a lot.
Funny book(s), but no substance..........2004-07-25
Anyone of substance who reads the Bushism books will get a laugh and little more. Both President Bush and his father have a funny habit of mangling the English language. This is not a sign of stupidity, it is a sign of an inner battle of right brain vs. left brain dominance. To a lesser extent I have this same problem. For us center thinkers, the left and right half fight for dominance of the chain of thought, especially when speaking. When one half of the brain is allowed to step on the other's chain of thought, the thought get knocked off track. Listen for the brief pauses before the phrase goes awry. If you catch it, you'll start to understand. President George W. Bush has degrees from Harvard and Yale. He is our first President with an MBA in business administration. Unless you are prepared to say these universities are merely diploma mills, I wouldn't berate the degrees he earned (where are yours?). Yes, I know he was an average student, but he still earned a BA from Yale and a MBA from Harvard.
If you want a good chuckle, the entire Bushism series is a very funny read, but don't mistake the gaffs for a lack of intelligence. Remember the midterms two years ago?

What if someone took all the essential
information that every person should know about
DVD and Home Theater and put it into book form?
Well, this is exactly what Bill Hunt and Todd Doogan
have accomplished with their newly authored book,
The Digital Bits: Insider's Guide To DVD.
This is the very first publication of its kind to
explore the DVD format from history to future. You'll
not only learn how DVD discs are manufactured and
compressed, but learn about about the authoring process
in creating some of the great menu designs we have
come to appreciate over the years.
One of the greatest benefits of this book for
DVD "newbies" is the fact that it clearly explains
aspect ratios. Through the use of many comparison
film stills, a reader can not only see how a
1.85:1 ratio compares to 2.35:1, but how Full Frame
greatly compromises the widescreen scale. If there
is one thing I hope this book accomplishes is to
educate people as to why widescreen is so important
in preserving the filmmaker's intended vision.
For anyone just getting into Home Theater, this
book provides valuable information on how best to
begin building a theater based on a particular budget.
The authors are very careful in making certain that
readers wisely spend their budget, finding the right
compromise between features and price. Those of you
on a limited budget can actually do better than buying
a "home theater in a box," and you'll find some
invaluable advice on how you can better spend your money.
While the book does spend a good deal of its first 84
pages on material already familiar to most of you, Bill
and Todd have included eye-opening material that will
keep readers glued to their seats.
This book contains comprehensive reviews of the
Top 100 DVDs of all time. I particularly
find these reviews to be valuable as there are so
many great films crossing all genres that I have
yet to become aware of. The book examines the
very BEST of both Film and TV on DVD, with reviews
that contain background history on its subject
matter as well as giving us detailed information
on its transfer and included supplements.
As many of you are aware, Fox Home Video is
about to release The Alien Quadrilogy to
DVD. The Digital Bits had the opportunity
to go behind-the-scenes in the production of
this amazing 9-disc DVD that contains never-before-
seen versions of these films as well as all-new
supplemental materials.
At just over 400 pages, The Digital Bits:
Insider's Guide To DVD is a very easy read.
You can pretty much flip through the pages and
find something that will catch your eye. Newbies
to the DVD/Home Theater experience will spend
more time scouring through the first 84 pages of
the book. These pages provide a thorough look
at everything anyone needs to know about DVD and
building a Home Theater. Established enthusiasts
will fully enjoy the in-depth look at the creation
of this year's anticipated release of Twentieth
Century Fox's nine-disc Alien Quadrilogy.
The fact that this book contains comprehensive
reviews of the Top 100 DVDs of all time
is reason enough to keep a copy next to your
favorite sitting chair. It certainly takes the

With even person that asks me to help them buy a Home Theater I give them this book. It is a great book to give anyone if they are still trying to understand all the ins and outs of Home Theater, especially DVD talk, and the up coming HD-DVD talk. Granted you must realize that this book due to the subject matter of electronics will be "old" the day it is printed, it doe sa wonderful job of attempting to be as future proff as possible. Great book for starters, but if you wan to go deeper then just for to an online forum or find another resource.

I got this book in my stocking and it's really fun read! I learned alot about DVD, and got some good ideas about titles to buy that I wouldn't have thought of. It reads easily, and is easy to understand for beginners, and I think has lots of good information for people who already know a bunch too. I have reccommended it to all my friends - give it a try! Not Up to Expectation........2003-12-18
I would have to agree with the review done by the reader from Maitland, FL United States. My main intention to get this book is to learn more on the "Technical Information" such as in-depth explanation on Progressive Scan, Vertical/Horizontal Resolution, PAL vs. NTSC, etc. Unfortunately, it lacks such useful details.
Instead of discussing & explaining more on the DVD technology, features & benefits, a huge DVD movie lists are reviewed instead. Furthermore, the comprehensive review of the 9-Disc Alien Quadrilogy is included which it's way too long & unnecessary.
The only interesting areas are in Part 1 (Understanding DVD), Part 2 (Building a Home Theater) & Part 5 (The Future of DVD). The section on Aspect Ratio, Widescreen vs Full Frame, various sound formats, etc which are informative for newbies. Also, the part that explains the latest technology, such as DVD recorders and the new SACD and DVD-Audio high-resolution music formats is very revealing.
In conclusion, this book is concise & suitable for all DVD newbies (no, it's not boring at all!) but for the rest of us, our thirst for additional technical aspects isn't satisfied. Well, it's certainly worth adding this book into your current DVD book collection (just like your DVD movies) or simply to show off that you own the latest DVD book available in the market!
Useless book on DVDs.......2003-12-02
If you are going to buy this book looking technical infomation concerning DVDs, forget it. This book is more like a review of movies DVDs, talking about released DVDs and the upcoming Aliens DVD set. In fact,less than ten pages are devoted to discussing technical aspects of DVDs. All things considered, this a waste of money, time and effort on a book dealing with the trivial aspect of DVDs. You are much better off reading FAQ DVD on the Internet.

Definitive but not Always Clear.......2006-01-22
This is THE book to have for settling disputes over the rules of games. There is no substitute to have by your side when someone you are playing with makes up a rule and insists it is the way to go. (This cuts both ways. Sometimes I learn the rule I've always used is just something Granny made up so she wouldn't lose, but we won't go there). Thorough rules are given for the standard board games as well as card games.
Emphasis is on defining the rules rather than giving clear explanations of how to play. It is assumed that you already know the game and will be using the book as reference tool when an ambiguity comes up regarding the rules. As thorough and useful as the book is, I feel that, without being any longer, it could be a lot clearer in explaining the basics of most games to people who do not already know how to play them. For instance, I really doubt if four people who want to play bridge could figure out how to play it just by reading THE NEW COMPLETE HOYLE. If what you are looking for is help learning new card games, then I think a book like SCARNE'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CARD GAMES would be more useful.
If you are looking for a book to settle all disagreements about the games you play, rather than a book to teach you new games, you cannot beat THE NEW COMPLETE HOYLE. Even if someone writes a better reference book on game rules some day, it won't matter, because it won't be "according to Hoyle." Hoyle's been the standard for 250 years, and it doesn't look like that is going to change any time soon.

is complete from alpha to zed.
Stop arguments with your family. Checkers really does have rules. Learn if you must jump the other guy, if you must move the piece you touch, and precisely when a red queen can be placed on a black king.
No one who plays games should be without "The New Complete Hoyle Revised." It was great 300 years ago (so I'm told) and is
great now.

It is true. This book is THE authority when it comes to games of skill or chance, and even games that combine the two (like all games that mean anything to anyone). But this book is too authoritative, almost facistic in its clinging to the rules of each and every game. All games need to grow and expand (or contract) from their traditional settings. This philosophy is not, I suppose by definition, a part of this book. Otherwise ... yes, a perfect book. Of its type.

Same old stuff, different cover............2007-09-16
There are many books like this out there with the methods are out of date. Most successful network marketers build their fortune on the backs of others. There are some new twists on old approaches, the problem with most network marketing, MLM, multilevel marketing methods is the company's business model drives the behavior in the field and turns people into pushy, aggressive sales people, which causes huge failure in the industry.

This book was a great resource for understanding the network marketing business. It helped to build my faith and become more confident in what I was doing. Great, easy to read and relate to information with real-life examples from some of the best in the business. If you're even thinking about getting into the industry I would read this book to see if network marketing is something you can committ to.
