Only 3.6 percent of men will remain faithful to their women. At least according to the controversial "Smith and Doe," two guys who wish to remain anonymous except for revealing that they work in the motion-picture industry and live in Southern California. A sampling of their "unspoken truths" aimed at turning women into "Smith and Doe-educated women":
--"If a man is given the opportunity to engage in sexual relations with an attractive female, with no fear of getting caught and little risk of transmitted diseases, he will do so. Always. Without fail. There are no exceptions."
--"Man spends his life in one of two basic states: loaded or unloaded."
--"A prostitute is the perfect one-nighter."
--"Men are attracted to beautiful young women.... If you saw your man at the office when you are not present, you would become physically ill."
Also included are detailed guidelines for monitoring your man's financial activities (see third item, above), "surefire methods" for getting your man to confess to cheating (past or present), and a 75-question fidelity test ("Does your man play his answering machine messages in front of you?"). They conclude with a "condensed guide to training your man," a more sexually focused takeoff on the ideas in How to Make Your Man Behave in 21 Days or Less Using the Secrets of Professional Dog Trainers.

Every Woman Should Have This Book.......2007-06-11
A lot of the things mentioned in this book didn't surprise me, what did surprise me was how common it was.
Most men and I say MOST, not ALL would cheat if they could. It's inherent in their nature.
This is not a man bashing book. It's two men telling how things REALLY are. You can stick your head in the sand and pretend men don't think differently but you'd be doing yourself a disservice.
This book has given me some great tools in my next relationship to see things as they really are.
What Women Don't Want Men to Know.......2007-01-23
Entertaining but puleez. At one point the authors assert that women only fantasize about their partners while men will fantasize about other women, celebrities etc. Guess what guys? Women fantasize all the time about gorgeous movie starst etc. Did you ever think that is why lots of women like the lights out? And, maybe if you knew how much we fantasize you would take care of your appearance the way we do!
On another topic, I hated the fonts etc. used to make points. Let's just use one font and maybe some bolding. It gave me a headache.
Even though it is not so great when it tries to portray women - it was not half bad in describing the strong sex drives of men. THere is some reality there.
authors were in a vicious business, buying into its toxic lifestyle.......2007-01-10
I know one of the authors, who is now completely changed and embarrassed about having co-autored this book. He left Hollywood, spent years in meditation and now leans towards Buddhism and community service. The ideas expressed in the book are true for those in the self-destructive world of power characteristic of Hollywood, where appearance is the prime value and excessive drug use common. It almost killed him.

The Truth Shall Set You Free!.......2006-11-08
When I first started reading this book, I thought to myself that all women who have a man in there life are stuck with cheaters and liars! I wanted to burn this book! Men can't all be like this, can they? Well, for the most part, they are. They're human and they're different from women. There is GOOD NEWS! Smith and Doe actually inform you on how to keep your man happy and faithful - all you really need to know is that you need to keep them "unloaded" :-) Read this with an open mind and read it to the end. It's not their fault - they're just men.
Garbage in Print.......2006-04-27
Leave it to Hollywood to tell us every guy cheats dispite all the polls that show men and women cheat at about the same rate now and its only about 50%.
Maybe in their loveless, pathetic existence sex is what they live for. But at least in middle America, people still have values and ethics. All this reveals is the culture they live in.
For the rest of us, we know it is offensive nonsense.
Granted, if almost any guy were a rock star, traveling the country, alone, without his wife, and gorgeous women of all ages kept throwing themselves at him, almost any guy would give in eventually.
But thats an extreme case. Most of us don't look. Have a conscience. And though we may go through our lives wanting to sleep with various women, as women do George Clooney, or Brad Pitt, we also go through life thinking about how much money is in the nearest bank. Wanting money doesnt make us bank robbers. Some don't for fear of retribution. Most just know it is wrong.
The authors apparently lack any moral compass. And they are in no position to speak for me or the majority of men in American.
They are bottom feeders. And if it was written by women, it was written by bitter, stupid, or delusional women.
Book Description
This is the first full-length biography of Irene Dunne, one of the most versatile actresses of Hollywood's Golden Age. A recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors award in 1985, Dunne's acting highlights include five Best Actress Oscar nominations, occurring in almost as many different genres: the Western Cimarron (1931), two screwball comedies: Theodora Goes Wild (1936) and The Awful Truth (1937), the romantic comedy Love Affair (1939), and the populist I Remember Mama (1948).
Customer Reviews:
A Thesis not a Biography.......2005-09-11
If you want a university style thesis on Irene Dunne, then you will be happy with this highly priced book. It is analytical as you might expect from an academic but the author has failed to make a story out of it. This makes for a very tedious read. Refer to the biography of Alice Faye to see how well it can be done.
Margie Shultz, in her bio-bibliography of Dunne, does a much better job. The biography of Irene Dunne is yet to be written.
"Well Dunne" of a Book!.......2005-02-21
I think this book is excellent for students and people who are discovering the world of classic Hollywood. It goes into detail without getting "too personal". Please realize that this book is intended for educational purposes (although it is entertaining at points about her life).
If anyone wants to know more about Irene Dunne personally, then you should start collecting old movie magazines from the 1930s to the present. Otherwise, I would recommend this piece of well-written art, to anyone who is willing to learn about a great actress and a great human-being! Thanks for your tribute to Irene, Prof. Gehring. Since she didn't write a book herself, there are lots of us fans who really appreciate your hard work (not to mention how envious we are that you got to talk to her). We commend you!
Tepid Dunne Biography, Not Worth the Price!.......2004-10-18
For the exhorbitant price of $45.00 and higher, I expected a nice coffee-table style book chronicling Dunne's career and her life as well, loaded with pictures. This is not what I received.
What I received was a 178 page synopsis style of Dunne's non-scandalous life (rare for a Hollywood star...she was married to the same man for 45 years!! Amen to that...refreshing...) devoted to her family, a jewel to work with, and never gave a bad performance. Along with Barbara Stanwyck she was the best actress never to have received an academy award (she was nominated five times).
However, the author skims over Dunne's life, briefly analyzes the periods of her career and says almost nothing of Dunne's later years!! There Are a few pictures in the middle insert...but none of Dunne as a child or as a mature woman.
Irene Dunne was a classy lady who deserves better than what she gets here...a tepid, rushed biography (which doesn't even include a dust jacket) finely printed on glossy paper with the high price that is just not worth it. I'm sorry I bought it as I really learned nothing new about Dunne that I didn't already know. This book is acceptable at perhaps $7.95. $45.00??? Ridiculous! Trust me!
Book Description
Composers of serial music in post-war Europe wrote almost as much about music as the music itself, but the relationship between theory and practice in the work of key figures like Stockhausen, Eimert, Pousseur and Schnebel has often been misrepresented. Focusing on the controversial journal Die Reihe, this book traces serialism's cultural history, its debt to the artistic theories of Klee and Mondrian, and its relationship to contemporary developments in concrete art, poetry and information aesthetics. It sketches a aesthetic theory of serialism as an experimental music.
Book Description
Stepping is a complex performance that melds folk traditions with popular culture and involves synchronized percussive movement, singing, speaking, chanting, and drama. Developed by African American fraternities and sororities, it is now practiced worldwide. Soulstepping is the first book to document the history of stepping, its roots in African and African American culture, and its transformation by churches, schools, and social groups into a powerful tool for instilling group identity and community involvement. Elizabeth C. Fine's vibrant portrayal of the cultural politics of stepping covers the spread to new venues and participants, including Latino and Asian American Greek-letter organizations. She draws on interviews with individuals on college campuses and steppers and stepping coaches from high schools, community groups, churches, and dance organizations as she traces the widespread growth of stepping and uncovers the controversies surrounding it.
Customer Reviews:
A Different Perspective.......2007-02-08
Pros: I've been on this constant mission to find out more about Greek stepping after seeing "Stomp the Yard." I'm not quite sure why, considering I went to an HBCU and saw plenty of it, as well as being addicted to shows like "A Different World," but I've found so many books that give me a deeper perspective on the topic and this would be one of them. I enjoyed this book. It talked about the controversy between the African American nonGreek community and African American Greeks; the issue with representing African culture but using Greek letters; whether nonGreeks should be able to step; the light-skinned versus dark-skinned perspective in Spike Lee's "School Daze" movie; a little bit of hazing; the Greeks of the 50s and 60s who completely disagree with the idea that stepping came from African culture; and the dance of juba, which played a great part in the creation of stepping. I thought the book was going to be just about stepping, but I didn't expect so many debates to be covered as well. I enjoyed reading about how Greeks felt about other cultures learning how to step, as well as nonGreeks. That was something I'd always wondered about but never felt the need to ask.
Cons: I wasn't so much interested in reading about church step groups. Not to be disrespectful, but I was looking for the perspective of BGOs, not other cultures or groups. I do understand why the author covered all the territory.
Comment: She did such a great job of the research, especially considering her "mamma didn't tell her about A Phi A," and she is a white woman who was not previously introduced to the subject. In the antecdote about the black man asking her why she wasn't studying polka instead of step, she didn't dodge the topic of what readers may wonder but are too nice to mention. Great job!
Wrong type of product.......2007-01-20
I returned the product. I thought it was a DVD of stepping and not a book. I want tapes.
This book is one of a kind........2005-09-20
I enjoyed this book because it took me back in history to the roots of stepping. It connected me to my African and African-American Ancestors. It helped me relive my soul-stepping days as a Delta in Lambda Chapter in Chicago. Stepping is a tradition that has been passed on from generation to generation. Sororities and fraternities are known for their particular steps. Now, non-Greeks are stepping too. It is great to see how stepping has evolved and this book has captured the traditions of stepping. The first copy I bought was for me. The next book will be for my daughter in college so that she can have her own copy. Hats off to the author!

Book Description
33 of the world's best business minds tackle one urgent question: What does it really take to make your organization remarkable?
Most organizations are stuck in a rut. On one hand, they understand all the good things that will come with growth. On the other, they're petrified that growth means change, and change means risk, and risk means death. Nobody wants to screw up and ruin a good thing, so most companies (and individuals) just keep trying to be perfect at the things they've always done.
In 2003, Seth Godin's Purple Cow challenged organizations to become remarkableto drive growth by standing out in a world full of brown cows. It struck a huge chord and stayed on the Business-Week bestseller list for nearly two years. You can hear countless brainstorming meetings where people refer to purple cows and say things like, That's not good enough. We need to create a big moo!
But how do you create a big mooan insight so astounding that people can't help but remark on it, like digital TV recording (TiVo) or overnight shipping (FedEx), or the world's best vacuum cleaner (Dyson)? Godin worked with thirty-two of the world's smartest thinkers to answer this critical question. And the teamwith the likes of Tom Peters, Malcolm Gladwell, Guy Kawasaki, Mark Cuban, Robyn Waters, Dave Balter, Red Maxwell, and Randall Rothenberg on board created an incredibly useful book that's fun to read and perfect for groups to share, discuss, and apply.
The Big Moo is a simple book in the tradition of Fish and Don't Sweat the Small Stuff. Instead of lecturing you, it tells stories that stick to your ribs and light your fire. It will help you to create a culture that consistently delivers remarkable innovations.
Customer Reviews:
Too much hype.......2007-09-15
This book is a collection of random very short chapters by various authors. Essentially they will tell you the sun rises every day, if it rains you'll get wet and so forth... it's amazing that still nowadays the press gets mad over such things. It's time to scream "The King Is Naked"!
One in many that offer something else for your growth.......2007-07-12
The book i purchased gave me new visions how to do better what I want.
A Quick & Fun Read on Becoming Remarkable.......2007-03-19
Seth Godin decided to do something remarkable.
He thought, "Why not publish a book written by 33 people that doesn't make a dime of profit?"
Why not?
The result is The Big Moo, an anthology of 72 short, pithy essays covering everything from a list comparing big companies vs. startups, to a lesson on leadership learned in a redwood forest, to what a Colorado roofer did right, to what a local print shop did wrong.
The chapters bounce around all those topics and more, but all relate to the core idea of being remarkable. Godin defines remarkable, in business or personal life, as doing something not good, and not perfect, but that stands out, that causes people to start talking, "remarking" about it. In other words, not only do you have to stand out (as he wrote about in a previous book The Purple Cow), but you have to do something really out of the ordinary, remarkable, a.k.a. "The Big Moo." He says that the real challenge before us is to do something truly remarkable with our work and our lives. The Big Moo doesn't pretend to be a step by step guide to guaranteed remarkability, but instead is a freewheeling brainstorming session to whet your appetite and spark your creativity toward creating your own remarkable life.
The book itself is the prime example of doing the remarkable. The editor, Seth Godin, approached 32 people, some famous like Tom Peters and Guy Kawasaki, and others famous only to the people they have impacted. He asked them to contribute material to the book for free, with the agreement that all the book's profits go to charity. On top of that, all the material is anonymous, so that you're not sure who wrote which chapter. Remarkable.
How I received the book is an example of the ripple effect of remarkability that Godin is aiming for. My copy came from Glen Tullman, the CEO of Allscripts. When his company read the book, they asked the question, "What can we do remarkable?" The result of asking that question is a new collaborative initiative that Allscripts has launched that will provide the ability for every physician in America to use electronic prescription prescribing completely FREE, which is absolutely unheard of. Now that's remarkable.
The Big Moo is a quick and fun read, sure to give you some good food for thought for your own remarkable life.
Excellent Compilation of Essays .......2007-02-01
I purchased this book prior to reading Purple Cow which wasn't a mistake per se, but I read a few pages of this then decided to purchase and read Purple Cow before ultimately tackling the Big Moo.
Most of Seth Godin's work centers around a premise to get the reader to really think then eventually act on that thinking. This title is no different--it's a collection of essays compiled by some of the best marketing and business minds around in an attempt to get you to think about your current (or possibly a past) situation and what changes you may wish to make to become remarkable instead of ordinary.
It's a quick read which delivers on its objective to generate actionable thought. It's also fun to try to figure out which author wrote each essay as he/she isn't identified for each.
Highly recommended as a sequel to Purple Cow.
Good follow up to Purple Cow.......2006-10-31
If you like case studies, and you liked "Purple Cow," this book should definitely be on your list. Make sure your read "Purple Cow" first though.
