Book Description
This breathtaking collection features the work of 86 artists who have looked in awe upon the untamed beauty of nature and preserved it in deft sweeps of oil, watercolor and a host of other mediums. Look inside to see masterful renderings of animals painted against some of the world's most magnificent environments. With each painting, you'll find commentary from the artist on the inspiration, field research and techniques behind its creation.

A absolute must have.......2007-03-09
I bought this along with "Wildlife Art: 60 Contemporary Masters & Their Work". Both books are great, but"Best of Wildlife Art 2" is a must have. The captions under the art tells you what the medium the artist is using. "Wildlife Art: 60 Contemporary Masters & Their Work" doesn't alway tell you and you have to guess at it. I also like the art in "Best of Wildlife Art 2" better.
best of wildlife art 2.......2005-09-24
beautiful dynamic pictures you can see why the artists are tops in their feild. Many different mediums showen if your'e an animal art lover this book is great.
Great compilation.......2000-10-17
Part 2 brings us more of the same brilliant wildlife paintings as those featured in Part 1. For my money, this second version has the winning edge because it is richer in African wildlife subjects (I am an African artist!), with some incredible work that captures the essence of the animal in a host of creative ways.
Like the first volume, there are a couple of paintings that are ghastly, but they are in the minority. Paintings are grouped into chapters, with similar headings to the first volume: viz. "Develop a unique design concept", "Convey a particular mood", Grab your viewer with tension", "Bedazzle your subject with light", "Express an animal's character", "Take a different viewpoint", Capture a moment in time with action", " Embellish your painting with colour", "Depict an expressive pose or behaviour", and "Feature the habitat or environment". The reader thus has a critical departure-point from which to view the works. The effect of this is a heightened involvement with some of the best wildlife paintings in the world.
If you can afford both books, add them both to your collection. If you have to make a choice, I would recommend this one. Even with a few lemons, it's still great.
Customer Reviews:
Good source of inspiration.......2001-02-03
As well as a good place to see different styles displyed together but it would have been nice to include some art-in-progress info on the various artists so the reader could see the different techniques in action. Overall, though, the quality of the artwork is amazing and a wonderful book to look through when you are looking for inspiration.

A punster's delight from an 18th century Renaissance man!.......2007-02-09
The essay reprinted here was first published in Philadelphia in 1786, and puns heavily using various type faces which are beautifully rendered in this edition. "Francis Hopkinson, American patriot, statesman, signer of the Declaration of Independence, poet, musician, author, and inventor ... He wrote many humorous and satirical essays; this one was published four years before he did of apoplexy." [from the Colophon page]. Of an edition of 155, this is copy number 86 [86 hand printed in green ink]. Bound in textured card stock & bound with matching thread. A real beauty as befits this humorous tract.

Book Description
Okay, now this is just getting scary. Knives has imprisoned Vash, and now he's going around gathering plants. By plants, I don't mean green things growing out of the ground, but instead those angelic, humanoid, power plant beings that make it possible for humans to live on the planet Gunsmoke. Vash and Knives are themselves a form of plant, and have the same power, but what will knives do with this huge power supply? Meanwhile, things are looking pretty tough for Wolfwood. And speaking of Nick, this volume contains a special spin-off chapter based on our favorite preacher slash gunslinger. Learn a little more about the man in the suit with the confessional helmet!
Customer Reviews:
Volume 8.......2007-01-20
I'd expect that anyone buying this volume would have already purchased or read Trigun Maximum 1-7, so you know what to expect.
The story starts:
Knives's Ark has been launched and Vash is imprisoned inside.
Bonus story at the end:
A tale about Wolfwood's past.
Our author:
Goes to the spa and gets nothing done.
Awesome.......2006-02-09
This is a great volume, especially if you are a Wolfwood fan. By the end it shifts all the attention to Wolfwood, which is very fitting as the next two volumes deal with Wolfwood almost exclusively. The actions great as usual, and not to put in spoilers in this but Wolfwood finally makes his decision about which side he's on.

Customer Reviews:
Great Read.......2007-07-30
While reading Grammar Snobs I kept wondering if it was healthy to be laughing this much at a book on grammar. I read the book in one sitting (excluding 15-minutes to walk the dog and another 5-minutes hiding from a door-to-door salesperson) and it has to be one of the most user friendly books I've ever encountered when it comes to grammar. In addition. Casagrande may be the first author I've encountered who doesn't immediately disparage modern "netspeak" or attempts at countering racism and sexism in language. A great read for anyone looking to brush up on their grammar or to become better familiarized with writing.
Usage not Grammar.......2007-06-17
This is a usage guide, not a grammar guide.
Grammar snobs beware!.......2007-05-25
I'm not an English major or teacher, but an engineer who occasionally writes technical and marketing literature. Although I've always had a keen grasp of tricky English rules and exceptions, at times I still fumble with such details as "which" vs. "that" and "three" vs. "3". I thought this book was hilarious and a fun way to learn the tricky rules. I usually have a very short attention span when reading any type of rule book. However, June's short and humorous chapters made this book easy to read. Besides the definite grammar rules, the best thing I got from this book is learning that, in many cases, there are no definite rules. The major sources of English reference disagree with each other, and the rules change over time. This quickly put my mind at ease as I often thought I was going crazy when reading different writing styles. I highly recommend this book for anyone who does any kind of writing for a living.
You must be a grammar snob if you gave this less than 4 stars!.......2007-05-01
This book is hysterical! I (or is it me?) and most of my friends are at a loss when it comes to correct punctuation and grammar. We know most of it but, gosh darn if it isn't sometimes way too tricky! And we thought we were the only ones!! I personally cringe at the thought of using the words lie, lain, lay or whatever the heck it is and opt for something else.
While I did pick up some useful tips, I think the way in which she handles this topic is "right on" for so many of us. Her information is serious and yet delivered with such humor and ease, that I actually found myself recommending this book to others. And who, except a small group of grammar snobs, EVER recommends a grammar book to a friend??!!
Lighten up and enjoy the humor!
My favorite grammar book.......2007-02-02
I'm a freelance writer who has a shelf full of reference books, because ... sadly ... even though this is my profession I often get caught not quite knowing why something is right or wrong. It's a complicated language OK! Love, love, love, love this book. As entertaining as it is informative. I've highlighted and sticky-noted several pages. Chapter 35 actually happened to me too ... almost verbatim.

Book Description
There are movies we love, but only one movie in a thousand actually changes the way we live, the way we look at life, or the way we define entertainment.
Broadcast journalist Nick Clooney, best known as the silver-haired movie host on the cable channel American Movie Classics, has selected twenty movies that changed us, some for the better, some for the worse.
He starts with the recent past: Saving Private Ryan, a movie that changed the way people across the world view the American generation that fought World War Two; Star Wars, a motion picture so important that a missile defense system was named for it; and The Birth of a Nation, not only the first film to be hailed as the artistic equivalent to opera, literature, and painting, but also the first film to give a cloak of respectability to racial prejudice.
Clooney's debate-starting distinctions will engage, delight, and challenge everyone who loves movies: Did Taxi Driver change the way we view individual violence? Did The Graduate change the way we view romance? Did Dr. Strangelove change the way we contemplate mass destruction? Did The Best Years of Our Lives alter our behavior toward veterans? And did Triumph of the Will almost help the Nazis win the war?
Clooney ends with an epilogue on "The Movie That Never Was": the film that could have spurred the civil rights movement if only it had been made. "Sports changed things, the military changed things, and eventually the federal government changed things," Clooney writes, but in the matter of race, he concludes, the movies changed nothing.
Thought-provoking, entertaining, and compulsively readable, The Movies That Changed Us will delight film fans of every generation.
Customer Reviews:
A Nifty Concept, Poorly Executed.......2005-09-16
Few movie fans will dispute Nick Clooney's underlying point: That some movies change the way we, the audience, looks at the world. A wonderful book could be written around that idea, each chapter tracing the impact of a different movie. _Movies That Changed Us_ is, unfortunately, not that book.
Clooney's grasp of historical context--or, to be charitable, his presentation of it--is too narrow and too shallow to do justice to the points he's trying to make. If you're going to make the case that a movie "changed us" you have to be able to draw the Before and After pictures in convincing detail. You also have to be able to show that the movie itself was a catalyst for change . . . not just an indicator of larger forces that actually brought the change about. Clooney (especially when writing about changes outside of the movie business) frequently fails to do this,
The chapter on _The Graduate_ suggests that Clooney recognizes this problem. He argues that the movie (with its jaded view of romance, sex, marriage, and social norms) "killed the romantic comedy." It's an interesting argument, but what if the same shift in attitude that made _The Graduate_ incomprehensible to the middle-aged parents of 1967 made the romantic comedies of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s incomprehensible to their kids? Clooney never even considers the possibility.
The same problem sinks the chapter on _The Big Parade_, one of a cluster of films from the twenties and early thirties that painted war as bleak, unheroic, and tragic. Clooney credits such films with making the West slow to move against Hitler . . . but couldn't the too-fresh memories of 10 million young lives lost in a pointless war have been behind *both* the films and the hesitancy to go to war again? Clooney never stops to ask.
The book also suffers from sins of omission: Connections that seem so obvious and important you can't imagine why Clooney doesn't mention them. Why argue that the "Omaha Beach" scene in _Saving Private Ryan_ is powerful because of its realism, and *not* contrast it with the far more "Hollywood" battle scenes later in the picture? Why spend a chapter on the 1964 anti-war movie_Dr. Strangelove_ and not connect it to the nuclear-disarmarment movement that had been gaining strength since 1946? Why write about the impact of _Star Wars_ and talk only about computer-controlled cameras . . . not the "summer blockbuster" category that it (and _Jaws_) more or less created?
I study and write about popular culture for a living, but when I bought this book I *wasn't* expecting a scholarly tome. I was looking for something entertaining and thought-provoking to read at lunch . . . unfortunately, it isn't even a good lunchtime book.
Let's Go To The Movies with Nick!.......2004-05-24
This is a marvelous book written by a fabulous guy. He told me the film which changed him was FRANKENSTEIN! But I really think he was pulling my leg a little. In case he was really telling me the truth, I'd suggest he see VAN HELSING. This is a good addition to anyone's library if he has the slightest interest in the film world. Nick had insider information and a life-long interest in movies. After all, his sister Rosemary made many films, as has his son George. I'd love to see this fab guy in one of his own.
The choices made for this publication were excellent and the accompanying photos added to Nick's commentary. The movie he looked for in vain has been written several times. At least,it seems like I've seen that storyline in more than one film through the years. His personal story of growing up as he did (similar to Civil War times) has been portrayed, but I'd love to see his version put on the big screen. Now that his son, George, is a producer and director, perhaps he could do the script as well and show his dad and two sisters as they were in childhood. All Nick Clooney fans would mob the theater to see the old days.
I miss Nick on the radio. Whatever happened to his Marine Sgt.? Now what was his name?
Poorly written and edited . . ........2003-06-19
After hearing the NPR piece about this book, I thought that it had great potential, and my friends and I actually began a movie series to watch all 20 movies on his list. We bought the book to encourage conversation about each work. Unfortunately, Clooney writes poorly and seems more interested in writing about the studios (and their heads) than about the actual impact the movies may have had on the U.S. Other than one or two short paragraphs directly relating to each movie, Clooney rambles on about other, uninteresting topics. It's painful to read. He tries to wrap up each chapter with a momentous sentence, which only ends up seeming hyperbolic.
In addition, this book ought to have been edited more carefully. Clooney roams from topic to topic, without any understandable reason, and there are some egregious errors (e.g. the synopsis for "The Great Dictator" is incorrect). Practically every film has to do with war, and I'm hard-pressed to believe that they are the only ones that impacted our culture. It is also surprising that his list contains nine movies from the '30s and '40s, but only one from the past 25 years.
Underneath it all, there may be some merit to his choices, but the book certainly doesn't help understand why. I learned more from reading the reviews on IMdB.com.
An Unforgettable Pleasure.......2003-02-28
For me to say that Nick Clooney is a skilled, authorative writer, is to say nothing in as much as that is his main occupation, and he certainly doesn't need my approval to keep doing what he seems to have a gift for.It seems meaningless to comment on his choice of subject matter by acknowledging the years he spent hosting a TV production relating to just that subject. However to state that on picking up the book, opening it randomly, and not being able to put it down for two chapters might give you an indication of his ability to captivate the reader. The easy flow of the narrative was as though he was sitting there telling you the story in person. The last time I was so absorbed by a book, It was written by his sister, Rosemary (Girl Singer). Perhaps it's in the genes.
Clooney changes our ways of looking at movies.......2003-02-02
To be truthful, Nick Clooney doesn't really change the way we look at movies. Rather, he provides some profound insights into movies and how they affect us. By doing so, you'll never see a movie as you formerly did after reading the book. For he spotlights how certain movies, special movies that stand alone, change the way that we see the world, conduct our lives, create our moral benchmarks, even peer into our own souls.
If you're seeking movie reviews, this book will take you beyond the ordinary parameters that we've come to expect and thrust you into a realm where you will ponder the immense power of this medium.
For me, personally, one of the most telling chapters dealt with Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver." The movie has always been high on my list of well-made, powerful expositions on the seamier side of our political and social underbelly. But, after reading Clooney's insights into this "movie that changed us", I can clearly see the reverbrations that it has wrought in our world.
Clooney writes with verve and wisdom, two qualities not always joined together. For the film aficianado and those intrigued by social history, this book is a must. It is a book that will provoke discussion and argument, but for which we are all richer for having read it.

Customer Reviews:
Another great book by Robert T. Kiyosaki. .......2007-07-30
I found this more helpful than some of his other more recent books. It's not just a reiteration of his old information. It goes over some key points of his first book but hits on many things and mistakes he went through in his many businesses. He then applies the things he has learned and puts them in this book in ways which anyone can understand. There are some insightful tips from Sharon Lecter in here too.
A little too familiar.......2007-07-25
My cousin gave me this book on cd as a gift in preparation for my departure from the working world to full blown self employment. Despite what I thought were veiled messages from my cousin, I eagerly listened to this book. I'm not a big fan of books on cd because I have a hard time concentrating while just listening to them, but as soon as I put "Before You Quit Your Job" in I began thinking that I've read/heard this before. I've read Rich Dad, Poor Dad (and liked it) and I couldn't help but think that this book sounds an awful lot like it. I haven't really compared the "text" of the two since I've only listened to this book in the car, but I swear many, if not most, of the information and stories are repackaged from Rich Dad and possibly the other books in the series based on what others here have had to say about it. I don't feel as if I gained anything new from reading this book and I'm reluctant to read any of the others in the series after this. So, if you've never read any of the other books this might be worthwhile. If you have read the others, well, I don't know...this may be terribly redundant.
Good Book.......2007-07-02
This book provides a sound overview of the fundamental infrastructure that must be present for a business to be successful. As always, Mr Kiyosaki has done a good job explaining the basics of good business acumen in laymen's terms. He also explains some of the mistakes that he made during his career as a business owner to help readers understand some of the common pitfalls that can occur in running and building a business.
Great resource for small business owners!.......2007-05-09
This book was exactly what my small business needed. He lays out not only what is necessary to take it to the next level, but the potential pitfalls the authors have encountered. I'd highly recommend it for any small (or large) business owner.
A Must Read.......2007-04-01
Anyone who is serious about starting a business but have doubts should definitely read this book. Robert Kiyosaki walks you through the entire process of building a business from top to bottom. He gives you real life stories, successes and failures. I definitely recommend this book.
