great pictures, atrocious writing.......1998-12-28

A very handsome book that doesn't appear to've been copyedited at all. The first five pages have more grammatical errors than any ten randomly selected novels. Plus, author Jeff Kurtti's tortured prose stylings seem better suited to a grade 12 english class than a "quality" mass market publication. Still, excellent pictures, an attractive layout, and some good and interesting quotes from the key creatives, albeit rammed bone-headedly in between all the intermittently coherent Kurtti-text. Buy it to look at, not to read.

Public Enemy #2: An All-New Boondocks Collection.......2007-01-17

I throughly enjoyed this book. I was disappointed when I completed the book because it left me wanting more. Huey, Grandpa and Riley were hilarious. Uncle Ruckus was funny too. Aaron Mcgruder is very talented. I liked the way Mr. Mcgruder touched on important topics such as Iraq, non existent WMD'S (weapon of mass destruction) and racism while infusing humor. I highly recommend this book.

Not As Good As "A Right to Be Hostile".......2006-08-22

I loved the first big collection, "A Right to Be Hostile." This second big collection is not as good. Almost the entire thing is Huey on a political rant. Caesar is the usual foil. Riley and Grandad show up. And that's largely it. Huey angry about Bush stealing the election, Huey angry about the bogus war, Huey angry about Cos or whoever else set McGruder off that week. Some of this is really funny. Bush talking to Darth Vader on the phone is hilarious. Huey finding out how Riley has been learning from the news is too. The problem is what's missing: all the other characters that enriched the earlier strips. Maybe McGruder got busy with the TV show. Maybe he lost perspective. Maybe he ran out of ideas. Whatever the case, Boondocks would have been a lot better with some of the other themes dropped in the years this collection covers. I put down the book thinking of Richard Prior's stirring words from "Blazing Saddles": Where are the white women at?! That's part of what's missing here, and with my local paper having gone to Boondocks reruns for weeks now, I'm worried that McGruder has lost it. I hope not. Although it would probably be fairer to take him on his own terms, it's hard not to see the first years of Boondocks as showing the world the heir to Trudeau. I hope McGruder doesn't throw away the crown. This collection is still well worth reading, though.

Hilariously inappropriate.......2006-05-12

The "Baby Be of Use" series is completely hilarious, and makes an AWESOME inappropriate baby shower gift (for anyone with inappropriate-humor-loving, baby-having friends).

It's true, there are some people in this world who might not find it funny to imply that a baby should prepare your breakfast for you, or learn how to make Daddy a margarita (see _Baby, Mix Me a Drink_). You know who you are. If you snickered at all at this idea, you must purchase these books immediately.

The books are the same size and construction as all the other little board books cluttering up your house, so your child can chew them to pieces long before he/she ever figures out what the words mean. The words and illustrations are simple and large, which of course makes the whole thing even funnier.

Highly recommended.

Aaliyah:More than a Women,written by Christopher John Farley,tells about the life of Aaliyah from when she first started acting and singing until her tragic death on August 25,2001.This book really tells the reader about Aaliyah's determination to become the best that she could be, and the way she strived to reach to the top .It explains about how she went to a school of the performing arts, and how she started acting when she was in the first grade in a production of Annie, and she would rehearse three hours a day, four days a week.Also the book tells how Aaliyah went to from a singer to an actress. The book also has quotes and stories,and memories about Aaliyah from many famous actors, producers, video and movie directors, music artists, and family members. I would recommend this book to Aaliyah fans. But I would also recommend this book to people who never thought about reading about Aaliyah because her life is really interesting. The only thing that I did not like about this book was that the author sometimes went off topic. The book is about Aaliyah, but he also started writing about other people, and subjects that didn't have anything to do with Aaliyah. But, besides that the book was pretty good.

For anyone who still feels the world's loss of Aaliyah, but isn't in to reading a long book, this is a great synopsis of her short life and all her accomplishments. I recommend to all of her fans.

I know that I could've written a better book........2004-08-28

Although, I thought that his Aaliyah Bio was'nt as bad as Kelly Kenyatta's, The downfall of Farley's book was that he failed to stay on the topic of Aaliyah-who was supposed to be the main subject of this book! It seemed liked veered off the subject to either fill pages because of lack of research; or because he just wanted to brag to the reader about all the rich and famous people that he knows. The highlight of this book was that the author was somewhat detailed about the details regarding the day of the crash and provided some nice publicity stills of Aaliyah-esp the ones from her last movie, "Queen of the Damned". I thought that he exaggerated a bit about this movies reviews, though.It may have earned alot of money in the first week, but ticket sales soon dropped after that when it was heard through word-of-mouth that although Aaliyah was playing the title role, her part was rather small, and she does'nt come into the story until towards the end and her character was then killed off. I'm a writer myself , and with the right "connections" and research, I know that I could 've written a much BETTER BOOK than both the authors Farley and Kenyatta put together. Bottom line: Check the book out of the library, But don't but it! It will be a waste of your money!

Aaliyah is a young woman that was in the music business. Her impressive debut at the age of 14 with album Age Isn't Nothing But A Number. Aaliyah was very smart and she was always happy. She also loved to singing and dancing. She played and a couple of movies. Aaliyah had secretly became engaged to Damon Dash. Soon after Aaliyah released her third album, Aaliyah life tragically cut short in a plan crash. Saturday, August25, 2001.

Yes, I liked the book, Aaliyah (more than a woman). Because Aaliyah was one of my favorite girl singers. I thought that she had a beautiful voice. Her songs weren't always about sex, killing each other. It was about love and happiness. Her music touched everyone in different places. I also liked it because I learned more things about her and her life. I think Aaliyah was a very talented young lady. And it wasn't her time to leave.

The author Christopher John Farley did a good job writing the biography on Aaliyah. It was also a great opportunity for people who didn't know her. Plus it was a great look on how hard it will be to make it in the music industry. This book had captured my attention as a reader and a young lady. That' why I think others should read this book because it will catch your attention. Maybe you will learn more about Aaliyah Dana Haughton.

Exactly the kind of trivia book I was looking for.......2007-03-23

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the question and answers in this book. The author says it accurately at the start of the book: "Quizzing is not about the bland recollection of facts....Rather quizzing is about building an extensive knowledge base and using that to work out the answer to the questions. The questions themselves should be interesting and thought provoking". I found the book to be exactly that. I am looking out for more books of this type.

This book has some really interesting trivia a passionate quizzer would like to know. I would probably rate it 4.5/5. Would have loved it if it had more because the quality of questions was pretty good. The bottom line, and all that matters is its worth the money!!!

NOT THOUGHT-PROVOKING...BUT A LOT OF FUN!.......2001-06-15

If you enjoy trivia games, you will want to have this book. No, it is not lengthy, but is does provide a few hours of enjoyment and fun. In addition, you will be amazed at what you can learn on a variety of topics from business, art, and mythology to math, sports and literature.

So, what is "keraunothnetophobia"? Believe it or not, that for me was one of the easy ones, learned from my studies in psychology. It is the fear of "falling man-made satellites." Actually, there are hundreds of known phobias (fears) but, needless to say, that is not one of the commonly known ones. However, when it came to sports, I completely bombed out in that category! The book is a real eye-opener in discovering just how little the average person truly does know! You may do exceedingly well in one category, but some of the other ones will really make your head spin. Hold onto your thinking cap; many of the questions are not easy.

If you are feel a need to challenge your knowledge and mental stamina, by all means buy this book. It is meant to be fun, and it is fun - enjoy!

Long on Legend, Short on Facts.......2001-06-15

This book contains many well-worn 'facts' that have circulated for years, and have been debunked long ago, including "the reason people say 'Cheers'" mentioned in the canonical review above, the origin of the word "posh," and "kings in decks of cards are based on historical kings."

Don't trust anything in this book, which seems to have been created by collecting and sorting hundreds of e-mailed lists of apocrypha.

Easy Lessons Equal Coachable Moments.......2007-02-24

The reason I like this book is that it breaks many management and supervisory roles into very simple actions that create perfect coaching goals. As a Leadership Coach I am able to use samples of this book to assist in drawing a picture of the behaviours that we want our managers and supervisors to perform; (Much more fun than our current list of competencies.) The book is not quite as strong when discussing organizational change but it does demonstrate that all organizational change must start at the base of the organization with support from the Top. A simple read with great messages.

This book in fable form offers a real knowledge of what empowerement is about. It also discretly teaches how to progressively achieve an organization of empowered teams.
The fable form is very well suited to the purpose.
