Book Description
Here’s the first big book of The Boondocks, more than four years and 800 strips of one of the most influential, controversial, and scathingly funny comics ever to run in a daily newspaper.
“With bodacious wit, in just a few panels, each day Aaron serves up—and sends up—life in America through the eyes of two African-American kids who are full of attitude, intelligence, and rebellion. Each time I read the strip, I laugh—and I wonder how long The Boondocks can get away with the things it says. And how on earth can the most truthful thing in the newspaper be the comics?”
—From the foreword by Michael Moore
Customer Reviews:
If you have an open mind, read these comics.......2007-08-20
This comic book is great. It started out as comics before going to a cartoon for one season, so I didn't know about the comics until the cartoon came out but I'm glad I found out, these are hilarious
Awsomely awsomenessness.......2007-06-08
Words cannot describe how good this is. It's better than chocolate and peanut butter put together! (if your not illergic)

Offensive humor at its best.......2007-04-04
What can one say about The Boondocks that hasn't already been said? By now, you already should know that the humor is racially-based, the protagonist is a 10-year-old civil rights supporter and approximately 100% of the jokes are as left-wing as it gets. Well, there isn't much more to say so I'll give you my own PERSONAL Boonocks experience.
For those who have only seen the TV show, The Boondocks comics are far funnier and far more sophisticated. If you enjoyed the show, you won't be able to put down this piece of gold.
For those who have never even heard of The Boondocks, but are interested in investing their money in a worthwhile comic strip I'd have to say that The Boondocks is the best comic strip since Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes. The difference here is that Aaron McGruder WILL make you think a little, but at no additional expense. The amount of laughter that will escape your body will seem daunting when you realize how many ears you've destroyed because you couldn't control yourself. Yes, this is really that funny.
Now if you don't find politics and race very funny, or are even offended by either, then The Boondocks may not be for you. But let me say this: it does not take a high level of intelligence to get a good laugh from McGruder's comic strips. As long as you are breathing and have a pulse, his humor will find you.
Humorlessness, A Horrible Scourge.......2006-08-22
In "Good Morning, Vietnam" there's a scene where a guy just doesn't grasp a joke when it's thrust upon him. He's sure he understands humor, because he can list a few things he thinks are funny. But as a general rule he doesn't--and can't--get the joke. I think that if that guy was modeled on someone real, that person has grown up to become a reviewer on Amazon, and has been panning "A Right to Be Hostile."
Is Boondocks one sided? Yes. Is it rampantly ideological? Yes. Would white folks be denounced as the vilest racists for saying about blacks the sort of things McGruder says about whites? Yes.
SO WHAT?!
The comic strips are funny. They're really, really funny. What a shame that the humorless folks who have worked themselves into a lather over the politics of the thing just can't grasp that. Do I like it because I think like McGruder? Oh, no. No no no. But I don't like libertarianism either, and I think P.J. O'Rourke is hilarious. Get past your politics, people, and enjoy the strip's sense of humor. This collection is as good as Doonesbury or Bloom County. The next collection, "Public Enemy #2," isn't as good, but this is great.
Boondocks Review........2006-07-09
All the Boondock books are amazing well written and hilarious. The characters are lively and fun. The story line is real life and finding the humor in everyday situations through this one family.

Personal ads: Who can resist reading them-even if you're "attached"?Dogs: Who doesn't love them (okay, besides cats and mail carriers)?Personal ads for dogs: The most inspired combination since peanut butter and jelly!Fixed Mix Seeks Same: The First Book of Dog Personal Ads is a one-of-a-kind collection of hilarious canine snapshots and personal ads that will leave readers howling. What better treasure or gift for the dog lover, a friend who's making the singles rounds, or anyone who finds witty writing irresistible? Some ads are silly, others sly, and a few a tad naughty. The pooch portraits are grounded in reality, with a satiric or absurd twist-just like the most intriguing people personals.Consider the terrier in a bikini whose ad reads: "Moondoggie Where Are You? Sun-worshiping beach babe seeks Big Kahuna who loves to soak up the rays and knows when it's time to roll over. Sunsets, bonfires, gnarly waves, and corn dogs float my boat. Man thongs, hairy backs, and muscle heads move on. Let's duck under the beach umbrella and dig our own love castle. No sk8ers please-get a life."A hysterically entertaining look at man's best (date-minded) friend.
Customer Reviews:
Could have been funnier.......2006-03-27
I was expecting a more humorous book, based on the reviews I had seen. Some of the ads were odd, some funny. Not exactly what I was expecting, but a short read with humorous photos.
Bark Bark!.......2004-11-04
This is a very funny little tome that dog lovers will love! The descriptions are hysterical and for anyone who's ever answered a personal, you'll laugh out loud! It's a great gift for every dog lover on your Christmas list...and for your single friends, too!
Two paws -- way up!
Loved It, Laughed Reading Every Page! .......2004-11-01
First off, there are the pictures -- funny photos of real dogs in real life situations -- none of those cutesy posed things that make you cringe. Then there are the ads themselves -- hysterical, especially if you have ever read personal ads in any newspaper. I laughed at every page. I love this book and now know what I'm giving to my fellow dog-lovers for Xmas!

The moving image is a significant part of graphic design, even discounting motion graphics on-line. But now this world is in turmoil. `Transitions' is the theme that runs through this book, which deals not only with technical and creative innovations at the cutting edge of this branch of graphic design, but the challenges facing the industry and the changes ahead. Moves and changes are the stock in trade of the motion graphic designer from one image or scene to the next and this book neatly takes the analogy and applies it globally to the discipline.
The availability of cheap, easy to use digital video equipment has enabled graphic designers to move into the world of film; On Screen In Time arrives at the point where digital media design and film making meet. Through interviews with leading practitioners across the world, the book focuses on transitions across the range of motion graphics, from Hollywood titles to experimental films on digital video, to interactive interfaces for digital TV. There is also a practical tutorial section.

GREAT FOR THE MOTION GRAPHICS PROFESSIONAL.......2007-01-04
There aren't many great books on the market for Motion Graphics professionals and this one is a 'must have'. I love the storyboards and conceptualization surrounding each project. It's a really great collection of work that should inspire any designer.
not the way I accepted.......2006-03-18
Got the book in bad condition, the cover was ripped, the pages were crumpled . Another thing is my fault of not noticing that it is an old book (in design years, so I wasnt updated as I hoped fo)
Thank you, Oren
Does not go in depth enough.......2005-09-19
I read some glowing reviews about this book at Amazon, so when I received it and found out it was like a coffee table book I was disappointed. I expected it to delve deeper into the thought processes of the artists, but unfortunately too many selections remain on the surface.
Inspiring.......2003-06-20
There are loads of useful books on motion graphics, but this one is not only useful/helpful, but highly enjoyable -- and inspiring. The writing is wonderful and the images are beautifully done, but the interviews really make this book stand out.
On Screen In Time is a gem -- I highly recommend.
Inspiration for the Eye & Mind.......2003-06-12
I have been collecting design books for over 20 years and motion graphics is one area of design that has been incredibly underrepresented in print. Sure, there are lots of books on how to use Final Cut or After Effects, but few and far between showcasing the best work being done in the industry. Goux & Houff have done an amazing job of representing the moving in still images. The book is beautifully designed and jam packed with eye candy - every page an inspiration. This book is a must have if you are interested in the field of motion graphics. Use it to give yourself a break from all those mind-numbing tutorials. Oh, and did I mention I want to be Elaine Cantwell...

Chop Doctor in print!.......2007-07-12
Jeanne's new book is a delight to trumpeters of all ages. Great information, easy to read, and most of all it comes from a great person! Jeanne is always so willing to help a player in need. I wish I lived closer to her.....

Excellent Resource for All Players.......2007-06-07
Trumpeting by Nature is a book intended for people of all ages and levels so while some information may seem obvious to the more advanced student, the same information is a great help to beginners looking for direction in all aspects of playing. Jeanne's methods are based on the principle that each player is responsible for becoming their own teacher and her book is a guide to doing so. By providing explanations, photographs and exercises to develop the different areas of trumpet playing (embouchure, air, tonguing, etc.) she helps the reader find their unique "sweet spot" where trumpeting becomes as relaxed and efficient as possible.
The characteristic that sets this method apart from the rest is the way problems are addressed. There are no generic instructions such as "use less pressure" but instead, each common pitfall is described in terms of how it affects one's playing. Suggested ways of overcoming these habits are then presented in clear, detailed instructions, making Trumpeting by Nature a great reference for trumpeters at all levels with the desire to diagnose and overcome inconsistencies in their playing.
The one addition that would make this book all the better is a quick-reference insert or appendix that includes a glossary and a diagram of the muscles frequently referred to in the book. However, this oversight is far outweighed by the positive aspects of the book which is why it deserves a five-star rating.
Disappointing.......2007-05-12
This book may be appropriate for a young child, although it was not meant to be so. When I got to the part about rinsing my mouth after eating and before playing, I put the book back in the box and sent it back.
Everything You Wanted To Know About How The Heck To Get a Note Out.......2007-05-04
I have known Jeanne for more than 15 years, as a colleague, teacher and mentor. All I can say is WOW. No review I could possibly squeeze into this space will do Jeanne's book any justice. It's as though she is sitting next to you at your stand, telling how it all works. Most other contemporary material out there is in the form of booklets and such, cost the same or more. This is a complete reference, with illustrations and thorough explanations of how to achieve the optimum set-up for yourself. As a working professional musician, I am always looking for tips on how to make my playing more efficient, more musical, more powerful. Jeanne takes you by the hand (it doesn't matter what level you're on, you will learn a great deal here). The best part is, although this book is quite thorough, it is not some dogmatic, rigid, my-way-or-the-highway approach to playing. Jeanne's approach is a flexible (like one's playing should be) cafeteria-style menu of information, technique, philosophy and encouragement. Many approaches to the trumpet have been written and discussed over the years - Adams, Arnold, Maggio, Vacchiano, Stamp, etc. This is destined to be a classic, and rightfully so. Bravo, Jeanne!
I Wish I Had This 25 Years Ago!.......2007-05-02
For those of us who learned to play the trumpet incorrectly or inefficiently, this book is a revelation. Jeanne is known as the "Chop Doc" because of her vast knowledge and her insistence on anatomically correct setup and development. In this book she breaks down absolutely everything pertaining to the playing of this instrument in easy to understand text and using many visual examples. For the past three years my two sons and I have been privileged to be studying with Jeanne and we can tell you that what is in this book works beyond a shadow of a doubt. This book conveys her love of music, the instrument, and the art of teaching in a concise manor and with her trademark positive and encouraging attitude. I have watched her get kids who could barely blow a middle G, to become members of "The High C Club" simply because she told them that she KNEW that they could do it. This is the next best thing to studying with Jeanne. What is in this book will help you learn to play at your highest level for a lifetime.
Customer Reviews:
A Must Have For a Pro...or Beginner!.......2007-01-04
This book is short and sweet. I have been performing and teaching brass performance for a number of years, and this book encompasses several approaches I have learned to brass playing. It is easy to read, functional, and eliminated many aloof ideas about how to play a brass instrument. The work covers everything from breathing, how to develop *your* tone, and even tips and guidance on auditioning. I would highly recommend this book to High School students who want to further thier music education. It will help you build very solid foundation, and help guide you into the many years of music to come. This book should also be in the library of any music educator, whether it be middle, high school, undergrad, advanced, or doctoral studies. It truly is a Brass Bible!

Conquer Ancient Battlefields to
Plunder the Keep of Fallen Kings
The King’s Road cuts across fields where great battles once raged–fields littered with bones, shattered weapons, the wreckage of mighty siege engines. Follow the road to the sundered gates of the Keep of Fallen Kings, a great ruin wherein lies the fabled Earthcrown. But be warned! The keep has attracted its share of monsters and treasure hunters over the years, and rumors of a fiendish dungeon beneath the keep have lured many adventurers to their doom.
Fantastic Locations: Fields of Ruin contains two beautifully illustrated, double-sided battle maps scaled for Dungeons & Dragons® play. The battle maps feature fantastic terrain designed to create large, fluid encounters, key scenes, and exciting game sessions. Rather than simple dungeon encounters, these maps generate the epic struggles that campaign memories are made of.
Three of the maps also make ideal battlegrounds for D&D Miniatures Game play. Build your warband and fight for control of the King’s Road, the Keep of Fallen Kings, or the dreaded Dungeon of Blood. A 16-page encounter booklet includes both roleplaying game encounters and skirmish game options for use with the four battle maps.

Customer Reviews:
nice, not great.......2007-01-12
This was a nice module, the maps are good for both the material included and for adding to your existing game. The problem with these types of modules is that anyone who has purchased stuff from TSR through the years had come to expect a certain amount of content and playability and the offerings from WOTC just do not match up to what we've come to expect in terms of the amount of gameplay. I'm totally comparing the 80's and 90's to present day, so that is kinda lame within itself, but the fact is that everytime I get one of these new things from WOTC I feel like the gameplay is over to quick. Maybe it's a marketing ploy to get people to buy more products, but really it's just a marketing failure that leaves people frustrated and looking elsewhere for that gaming exeperience. The saving grace is that the writers actually do a good job of presenting some entertaining gameplay, thus the 4 star rating.
Great Product - Solid Adventure and Fantastic Maps.......2006-10-02
I have to say I was very impressed with this adventure. It is well thought out with a generic enough plot line that you can easily supplement in to any campaign setting. My favorite items are the two double-sided maps that you get. Those are outstanding and a great supplement for adventures beyond this one.
SHORT BUT CHALLENGING ADVENTURE.......2006-07-14
Fantastic Locations: Fields of Ruin is a short but challenging adventure for 4 characters of approximately 8th level. The adventure comes with a booklet, two large, double-sided, full color fold out map grids, and a DM screen with smaller versions of the maps with keys to encounters. The adventure is designed to be played on the maps, ideally with D&D miniatures. The ruins in question are those of the Keep of the Fallen Kings, and ancient fortress controlled by tyrant kings with the aid of a powerful artifact called the "Earthcrown" which allows the possessor to command earth elementals. Many years later an evil sorcerer named Raseris has gone looking for the crown. Several adventure hooks are provided to get the players involved, the main one being a Dwarven Lord hiring the players to find the crown and bring the sorcerer back to atone for his crimes.
Initially the players will travel and explore the area of King's Road which leads to the keep before finally arriving at the ruins of the Keep of the Fallen Kings. The ruins will eventually lead them to the Dungeon of Blood in the quest for the crown and where many dangers await. As mentioned, it's a short adventure, one that can probably be played in one good session or so but that needn't be the end. Much of the dungeon was blocked by rubble and the booklet provides ideas for continuing the adventure into other parts of the dungeon if the DM desires. The booklet also provides some excellent starting hooks for what may lie beyond.
Fields of Ruin is a solid adventure. Well-written and designed. Flexible enough to be played with or without miniatures although using them or some kind of tokens will certainly enhance the game play. Definitely worth checking out!

David Maister, the world's premier consultant to professional service firms, vigorously challenges professionals to examine this essential, yet under-addressed question: What is true professionalism? His answer is clear: It is believing passionately in what you do, never compromising your standards and values, and caring about your clients, your people and your own career. Business people are not professionals........2006-11-04
This is a feel good book attempting to make an argument that people in business can be "professionals." By definition, business people exist to create and manage a business entity inorder to generate a profit. Professionals are licensed individuals. They are mandated by law is to protect the public's health, safety and welfare through the services that they provide to the community. This book is an attempt to corrupt and diminish the definition of professionalism.
Maister Raises The Bar....Again! .......2006-03-04
Should be required reading for anyone aspiring to develop themselves professionally in a professional services firm. Especially pertinent for leaders and managers.
As Maister points out, some of his recommendations require the courage of ones' convictions to be realized. Yet, this book provides inspiration (along with wonderful advice) to achieve its ends.
Maister is simply the best in this niche...and this book, once again, demonstrates that.

Essentials Needed To Become a Successful Leader.......2004-04-21
David Maister does a great job of explaining the fundamentals essential to anyone that has a job or is looking for a job in consulting. Splitting the book into three sections made it flow well and easy to follow and comprehend. Furthermore, Maister really focuses on the things that you should look for within yourself as well as the firm and clients. He makes you think about what one should really focus on in your career and the benefits you can receive from your job. This book also guides an employee in explaining situations that will probably occur at some point in their working career. David Maister gives you the tools that you need to be successful; all the person has to do is apply it to their everyday life.
The principles that Maister discussed in his book showed me that there is a balance between the client, the firm, and yourself. This balance is important because it dictates how successful you will become. It is also important to value your client as well as engage with them so that you really know who the client is and what their needs and wants are. Even though you must achieve your goals, you should help others to do the same by establishing a relationship, which in turn will make the working environment healthy and successful.
There is so much information you take a way from this book that will help you in your career as well as your life. I advise everyone to buy this book, because it is very beneficial to the success of anyone's career. Through the use of catchy phrases and clear, practical explanations, I feel that anyone can read this book and take something from it to apply to their career.
Excellent Book - Speaks directly to consultants.......2003-03-08
Finally a book that speaks to the heart of what consulting is(or professional services in general), with no hype, no distractions or flavor-of-the-month thoughts. I had heard David Maister at a recent consulting conference and was quite struck by his focus on people and 'execution of strategies' as being the core of successful consulting firms.
This book is pithy without being trite and if you have been in consulting a while, you can directly relate to what the author is referring to. There are many suggestions in this book that are insightful, practical and feel right on the money to a practictioner.
While by no means a classic, it is certainly a must read.
Should be required reading in law firms.......2002-05-26
"True Professionalism" expresses Maister's core message: do work
you love with people you like and everything else will come
with ease. Few of the lawyers I coach have heard this message
before. If they'd read Maister they'd realize that business
development isn't about selling, with all of its worst connotations -- it's about helping people you respect and whose problems are meaningful to you.
Maister encourages the reader to consider the "radical" idea that work should be enjoyable and that if it is, then success will come from doing it well and with sincere caring. I agree with him and enjoy being reminded each time I re-read this wonderful book.
