Mark is brought to another planet in order to save it. Is he their only hope - or the source of the worst disaster to ever befall them?
Customer Reviews:
Contains one of the best superhero battles I've seen in a long time.......2007-06-21
This is a magnificent trade paperback collecting issues 25 - 30 of Robert Kirkman's Invincible, with a few extras included, such as pencil sketches of selected panels and splash pages, along with commentary by the author and artist. In these collected issues we see Mark Grayson flying off into space to save a race of insect-like aliens from extermination. This leads to Mark being reunited with a certain someone who was last seen flying off into space after beating Mark into a bloody pulp. Eventually the Viltrumites arrive, and what follows is the bloodiest (and best) super-brawl I 've seen in ages. Sure, the action's there, but what makes Incincible so appealing to a wide variety of readers is also the non-stop drama that Kirkman specializes in (see Walking Dead if you don't believe me). While Mark is off saving a planet, his family and friends deal with his absence and a few menaces plaguing the earth to boot. Character development is strong and Mark's girlfriend Amber is being fleshed out by Kirkman as more scenes are being devoted to her and how she deals with her life as the girlfriend of a superhero. Kirkman also introduces an interesting new element into the story in the form of a little 'surprise' from Mark's dad, but I don't want to ruin anything for you. Read the book and find out. It's a humdinger!
Incredible is Amazing.......2006-12-28
These books will uplift you and make you believe in comics again.
its like a fine wine....it just gets better with age.......2006-08-27
If you are reading this review then you must be familiar with Invincible and already know that this truly is the best super hero comic on the market. This story arc contains plenty of twists to keep the reader intrigue and introduces plot developments that will be critical to future story lines. If you havent read Invincible yet pick up the two Ultimate Collection hard covers and see what you are missing by not reading this great title.
Invincible is full of action and adventure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-07-15
This is the only comic book I collect when it is published as trade paperbacks. They are worth the wait. Image and the team of Kirkman/Ottley are great. Lots of twists and turns in this title. The art is crisp and the writing stellar. Kudos to all involved!!

Disappointing.......2007-06-18
Volume 2 of the Dreamwave series is a significant improvement from the trash that Chris Sarachini put out in Volume 1. However, compared to all of the comic runs based on the Transformers in the 80's and early 90's, this story is extremely lacking in substance. There are a lot of attempts at fan appeal , but the story just is not very compelling. If you are not already a fan of the Transformers, I would not recommend this book. If you are a rabid fanboy collector, you might want to pick this one up.
Great story and artwork.......2007-01-04
The Dreamwave's take on the G1 story line is very good indeed and the War & Peace story rocks!
Great chemistry with characters from Season one to three in one book........2005-02-03
I really enjoyed this book because it's the amalgamation of the Transformers season 2 and 3 combined. In fact, everytime I get out of bed, I always read that book every time because it's something I always wanted to see Autobots from season 1 meeting up with the Autobots of Seson 3. For example, Ironhide and Kup are actually best friends and battle buddies. How come we never get to see it on television?! My favorite part of the book was when Starscream shoots Megatron in the head sending him tumbling into space just like the variation of a scene from the movie. Volume 2 is all action and everything that Transformers fans wanted othan than the first volume. Brad Mick utilized every characters including those were not shown in the original comics line or on television. This book is good and I recommended to every Transformers fans.
Solid, consistent story tainted by Dreawaves' arrogrance.......2004-12-20
Dreamwave are an upstart company that claims to bring the Generation One Transformers to thier former glories, and to his crddit, "Brad Mick", a self confessed fanboy, achevies this.
"War anmd Peace" is a Furman-esque look at a Cybertron united by everyone's favourate comic villain, Shockwave, a minor Deceptacon lackey in the excellent Generation One cartoon, who once more has been given lines he was given in the Marvel comics about betraying both Autobot and Deceptacons to suit his one need for power, also making apperances (some for blatant fan-appealing reasons) are Alpha Trion, the Sharkitons, and Ultra Magnus' rarly seen in the comics (ever) cab robot body.
The story follows all the classic formats, Starscream's trecerhosu side, Megatron being ejected into space despite still functioning (a prize for anyone who can guess where that reference came from), Hot Rod and Kups' bickering, and of course, the ever dependable Matrix of Leadership, what fan appealing comic could do without it?
The only problem is that most Generation One fans would prefer it if this new continunity did'nt basically ignore the events of the conistently darker third season of the Generation One cartoon, it just tells you right there that Mick and Dreamwave clearly hated the fact that Optimus Prime was killed off in the film and are trying to create an alternative timeline for fans who felt the same to follow...a bold move, and one that turns them into utter hypocrites.
A solid story that panders to fans of Generation One, but seems like it's trying to tell you "follow our continunity, follow our continunity, follow our continunity"
An Epic........2004-08-26
No two ways about it - this is the best Transformers story of all time. If you have any appreciation for the G1 characters at all, you will love this and beg for more. The first book, Vol. 1, was a fun little story which re-introduced us to our favorite characters and helped us remember why we fell in love with the Transformers when we were younger. The colors and artwork were great, and the preview at the end set the story up nicely for this sequel. The thing is, however good that book was, this one is twice as good. I'm not kidding.
Remember how, in the old cartoon, characters would just suddenly appear in the show? Remember how older characters would just disappear? This story explains all that. It's a finely crafted tale of Cybertronian politics, which - although a little confusing at times - somehow manages to keep a fast pace while becoming more and more interesting. Almost all the Transformers you've ever noticed are included, and each manages to take an important role within the overall story. Pre and post-movie characters all interact together like a fantastic dream. All five of the Dinobots are back, as are the Protectobot and Stunticon teams. We see the introduction of Hot Rod and friends, and even learn why the Ultra Magnus toy had a white "Optimus Prime"-type figure inside it! Others, such as Ratbat and Smokescreen, are given the introduction that they should have had back in the old cartoon, while characters like Ramjet and Blitzwing are given extra time to develop their characters a little more. Even the Go-Bots are included, although perhaps not in a way that fans of that series would appreciate... hehe. ;)
The bottom line is that this story fills in almost all the gaps and fixes plot-holes from the old G1 cartoon. It's very exciting, and you'll be able to watch that old cartoon with a new appreciation for the characters that suddenly appeared. All alliances and events are fully explained in the back of the book, and it even ties in to "The War Within" series by Simon Furman (a prequel series of sorts). The script is very good, with accurate character personalities, and the artwork is somehow even better than it was in Vol. 1 (which itself was amazing)!
I was skeptical about this series of books because of a few negative reviews, but now I'm hooked. I wouldn't even be surprised if this particular story is used for the upcoming live-action movie (being released in 2006). Both this and Vol. 1 are well worth the money, so don't hesitate like I did. Get them now! :)

Transformer Guidebook 2.......2005-01-05
This book has some great details, with full color pictures on glossy paper. It give the bios, abilities, strengths and weakness of all the Autobots and Decepticon from the beginning and other Transformers I have never seen from the original that came out in the late 1980's from Marvel Comics and Hasbro.
I wish they had put this book into one instead of two volumes and if possible in hard back cover like the Transformers "The Ultimate Guide".
If you like the Transformers from the 1980's, I think you will like this guidebook.

Nice companion book (Volume 1 of 2).......2005-09-29
An enjoyable book listing the personalities and abilities of numerous Generation 1 Transformers. I picked up the book out of nostalgia sake (grew up with the original Transformers) and enjoyed it! It's unfortunate the Dreamwave Productions publishers went out of business though. Their work on the Generation 1 Transformers help promise and potential. I recommend picking up the Dreamwave trade paperbacks collections if you enjoy the original 80's Transformers.
Volume One.....for any hardcore fan .......2005-09-07
Yes...Im a big fan of the decepticons, and a huge dork about the transformers.. The book is great, but the pages are really small, volume one only goes up to the letter "P"...so all the other characters are in the second volume, which I think is a load of crap !!! $25 bucks for half the characters..you'll end up spending $50 bucks !! thats crazy !! just a way to get more money out of our pockets right..dont get me wrong, its a a good book, but you only get half the characters and the book is small.
Good, but not definitive........2005-09-06
These two volumes represent Dreamwave's effort to provide a guidebook for all of the G1 transformers. I'm not talking about inductively coupled wire coils, but the fiction spawned by the 1980s toyline.
Transformers are silicon-based lifeforms from the planet Cybertron with the ability to change into different objects. Two groups, Decepticons and Autobots, wage war against each other. Under most versions of the story, Deceptions attack and board an Autobot spacecraft, which ends up crashing into Earth a long time ago. Volcanic activity today awakens the Autobot spacecraft, which erroneously rebuilds the Decepticons as earth machines, identifying them as the planet's dominant life. The Decepticons, with classic characters like Starscream, Rumble, and Soundwave, under Megatron's leadership set out to enslave the planet's "fleshing" inhabitants and use its natural resources to make Cyberton the galaxy's predominant military power. The Autobots, with the help of a few humans (and the opposition of others!) work to stop them.
At its best the entries really shine, but the comprehensive effort lacks consistency and generality across universes. The outstanding penciling in many places left me in awe. I observe, however, all characters are not drawn at the same skill level. Moreover, the coloring lacks complexity and takes away from the penciling to some extent.
The guidebooks are very comprehensive. For instance, I really appreciate the personal information on individual micromasters. The entries on omega sentinels, pretender shells, size/mass conversion technology, teleportation, sparks, space bridges and so forth also add a nice touch. I'm annoyed by the presentation of the neo-G1 history as if it is authoritative; I suspect most fans regard this history as a strange aberration that strays too far from the original stories.
Overall, one hesitates to take the "official" guidebooks as gospel, but they're still fun items to own.
Transformers Generation One: Guidebook Vol. 1.......2005-03-29
This book contains lots of info about your favorite characters from the original Transformers including the toy characters as well. It also includes some characters' personal rivalry with another. I highly recommend this book for any Transformers Fans.

Because the fans demanded it, Transfan-fave Jetfire returns courtesy of the villainous Starscream, who has, out of fear for his own life, formed an uneasy alliance with the Autobots. But is the combination of the Autobots' courage, Jetfire's intelligence, and Starscream's conniving enough to thwart the super-powered zealot (and brand-new Generation One character) Sunstorm from destroying both the Earth and Cybertron?

Customer Reviews:
Very Helpful For Artists.......2005-05-06
I'm not obsessed with the Star Wars films, although I did enjoy them. But the great thing about this book (and the other "Art of Star Wars" books) is that you don't have to be a huge fan to appreciate the conceptual artwork. As an artist, I consider this book to be one of my favourite reference books. It shows much about what goes into the preparation of a film. This book IS rather fan-oriented, and lacks some critical information such as the sizes of sketches, and other technical information about the paintings and drawings which would have been helpful to aspiring artists & designers. However, it is never-the-less an almost daily source of inspiration for me as I do my own futuristic art.
As for the script, I could take it or leave it. I've never read the whole thing, only bits here and there. What amuses me is how the script is subtly different from the movie. It's clear that although Lucas has a great mind for stories, his writing is only adequate. The script is rather awkward. If you want a good story, see the movies: the script doesn't do them justice. But for great behind-the-scenes production and concept artwork, see the book.
I would also recommend getting the modern 1995 re-issue of the book, not the 1979 version, if durability is an issue, because mine, like so many others I see here, has fallen apart.
Five stars for content, minus one for durability.......2003-04-15
In 1979, Ballantine Books (then the sole licensed publisher of Star Wars novels and most tie-ins) published two versions of this book. One was a limited edition hardcover, which I have never seen, the other was one of those "trade paperback" editions (coffee table size but in softcover). What made this book a must-get was that it contained the entire fourth revised draft of the screenplay for A New Hope (it was the first time I had seen the Episode IV subtitle...even though I bought this book AFTER seeing The Empire Strikes Back). The screenplay I read included scenes that were later edited out of the final film (mainly scenes on Tatooine focusing a bit on Luke's life there and introducing Biggs Darklighter. Another deleted scene -- later restored for the Special Edition 20 years later -- introduced Jabba the Hutt...he would have been very different in look and demeanor from the final Jabba, but at least he was there. Some of these scenes appear both in the novelization (make that ALL) and in the Radio Drama.
The other attractive thing of this book was the amazing artwork. It ranges from pre-production paintings, costume concepts, actual photos, storyboards, and poster art. It even has a section devoted to spinoff art and some cute fan art, mostly drawn by small children.
The one flaw in the book is not content related but the choice of paper and binding. The pages are glossy, like those of a yearbook...but the glue that holds the pages to the binding was not strong enough to hold the pages together. I went through three copies of this book in the time it was in print...I only looked at the last one ONCE and the pages still came loose. Thus, out of 5 stars, I give this book 4.
The Original and Still the Best!.......2003-04-03
Okay...I have owned several copies of this book. Never the hardcover, since that one is rare ... It is lovely to look at and the screenplay...the fourth draft, which has scenes that were cut in the first version and some adapted in the Special Edition, gives us more of the story as it would be presented in the novel and radio dramatization. It is a wonderful book to look at, ALTHOUGH my other copies had the weakness of falling apart even if one was careful when perusing it. Some problem with the binding, I imagine. It is worth getting, though.
SIMPLY WONDERFUL.......2002-10-10
I can't even to begin to express how delighted I am with this visit to George Lucas' galaxy, "far, far away". To see designs from the minds of these amazing creators, popular gadgets, gizmos and vehicles as they were conceptionalized, is a real treat and forever an inspiration of how the magic of film making and imagination can transport an audience.
Everything from the beginning..........2000-08-22
This is a nice book for the addicted fans who are looking for more. Well, there is not much more than in the movie, but is nice to read the original script (expecially for those like me who are not from an anglophone country) and take a look at the pre-production sketches and to the matte paintings. I appreciated it very much, but if you aren't an addicted fans it's sufficient to search in the net to see the same pictures.

The REAL episode one.......1999-08-05

This book includes an accompanying CD and an additional discography of Charlie Byrd's recordings. Tune selections: The First Word; At the Seaside; Little Girls at Play; New Shoes; Waltz Op. 39, No. 1; 11 Waltz Op. 39, No. 2; Waltz Op. 39, No. 3; and more. Simply Handmade.......2005-10-03
I was looking for a resource to provide project ideas for children to make as gifts or as art projects for home school kids that really like making crafts. This book is exactly what I hoped it would be. The ideas are simple yet elegant, the instructions are complete and all material needs are clearly outlined. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys making crafts and especially for those that have kids that enjoy making crafts along with them.
Simply Tacky!.......2005-08-26
I have to agree with a previous poster that most of the projects in here are pretty tacky. Examples- decorating a pumpkin with mardi gras beads, or putting glitter on coin rolls to hand out for Halloween. And there must be 7 or 8 diferent examples of the same painting of candle holders, just for different seasons of the year. In all I found 3 or 4 itmes I may be interested in making. Not very creative. Not worth buying in my opinion.
Great variey of easy projects.......2003-06-25
There is a reason that the words "simply" and "easy" are in the title of this book. The crafts are easy to do. For someone such as myself, who is just begining to learn about the world of crafts, this is a good thing. So really, what you get out of this book will depend on your experience level and how well you can extrapolate from the projects in the book to your own, perhaps more advanced, projects.
As for the style of the projects, they are predominantly country and kitschy, but most of them could be made more sophisticated by choosing other colors or materials. However, there are some elegant projects in the book that can be made without any changes. One such project describes using foam leaf stamps to decorate glass bottles. The examples in the book look handpainted rather than stamped. I was glad to see the project on how to create and add "festive" bows and other embellishments to presents. I especially like the wooden box that was covered with sheets of music. I also like the project that describes how to sponge paint and embellish a tray with pressed flowers.
Most of the projects have step-by step instructions and photos. Some projects are just listed because you don't need in-depth instructions to do them. All the projects are listed by season, but some projects can be changed to fit more than one season. The book also gives you two variations on every major project.
As a bonus, the book has quotes scattered throughout its pages, such as "No one was ever great without some portion of divine inspiration."
If you are interested in learning the basics of a variety of crafts, this book is for you. If you are a more advanced crafter, the ideas within the book might still be inspiring, but you probably already know the basic techniques presented in the book. I would recommend this book to anyone, but realize that not everyone will derive the same amount of enjoyment from its pages.
Some good ideas.......2003-01-22
There are some good ideas, but overall the crafts are kistchy. Very little elegance, a lot of bright poofy things.
Great Book!!!.......2002-03-27
I just received this book in the mail, and I have so many pages already marked for great gift ideas. This book has something for everyone, and provides jumpstarts for other crafting ideas. Whether you have a lot of time or just a little, this book is PERFECT.

Like the carefully engineered dies which created his company's first products--steel pitons and carabiners which climbing enthusiasts would recognize as primitive forerunners of today's sleeker gear--Yvon Chouinard is if nothing else an original. How many other shy French-Canadian boys become surf-and-climbing bums, then blacksmiths forging their own play tools, and eventually founders of world-renowned sports equipment and apparel companies like Patagonia? How many other heads of multi-million dollar enterprises open their memoirs by stating bluntly, "The Lee Iacoccas, Donald Trumps, and Jack Welches of the business world are heroes to no one except other businessmen with similar values. I wanted to be a fur trapper when I grew up." The proverbial mold from which Chouinard was cast got broken.
In Let My People Go Surfing: The Education of a Reluctant Businessman, readers get a fascinating look inside the history and philosophy of both Patagonia and its irascible, opinionated founder. From its beginning, the book shares a sense of Chouinard's strong-willed personality and his love of the outdoors. He recounts a mostly happy childhood spent in a still-unspoiled southern California, climbing, diving, fishing, and surfing. The narrative soon moves into Chouinard's early entrepreneurial efforts, which were less focused on market-share domination than on earning a basic living to finance his own sporting habits. As his company's first catalog noted, delivery could be slow in the summer months, when Chouinard typically left the "office"--a dilapidated shack converted into an ironworks--for climbing adventures across the American West.
Eventually, though, the story settles into a pattern familiar to business audiences: Patagonia grows rapidly, takes on more employees and product lines to sustain hungry demand from customers, but overreaches with over-ambitious expansion plans and suffers a hiccup in its adolescence. This make-or-break juncture of a business's development often contains the most interesting material, and here Chouinard and his beloved company are no exception. He describes a series of wrenching decisions through which he and Patagonia management team navigated in 1991, as sales growth stalled while capital and operational expenses sprinted ahead. From this crisis emerged Patagonia's first-ever layoffs, affecting a hefty 20% of the workforce, and a serious re-examination of the business's core principles and methods.
The historical part of Chouinard's book largely ends at this point, and gives way to an exposition of philosophies which emerged at Patagonia during its dark moments in the early 1990s. The rest of the book serves as a kind of primer to business, the Patagonia way: one chapter each on product design philosophy, production philosophy, distribution philosophy, image philosophy, financial philosophy, human resource philosophy, and so on. Fans of Patagonia can revel in the company's working details, as can those who support or want to build businesses with self-consciously cultivated soulfulness. Readers who enjoyed Gary Erickson's story about Clif Bar, for example, should definitely find this a welcome addition to their bookshelves. --Peter Han

Customer Reviews:
Who knew that Patagonia had a mean side?.......2007-10-04
Yvon Chouinard built an iconic business which exemplifies commerce with a conscience. I have long been enamored of their products, the photography, and the essays of their catalogs. As a surfer and career environmentalist I was anxious to read this book.
Yvon shared some interesting philosophical perspectives. He takes the position that people who believe the earth to have been created and not the result of evolution are hiding in their faith from the facts. Furthermore, because creationists don't believe in evolution they don't aspire to improve. (Clearly, Yvon never heard of the doctrine of sanctification.) He argues that abortion is a means by which we can keep too many children from being born and then over-running the carrying capacity of the ecosystem. And Republicans? Don't get him started! He might be the only mean spirited Zen Buddhist of whom I have had the displeasure to read.
There is so much to commend here with regard to encouraging businesses and individuals to be environmentally and socially engaged. Too bad the message is soured with arrogance, condescension, and obvious ignorance of those he apparently considers to be enemies of the environment.
let my people go surfing.......2007-09-01
this book is an inspirational page turner until it gets to the philosophy section which is good and interesting, but the first half is really, really good. i would highly recommend it for all 20-40 year olds that are thinking about changing up their careers to something more fulfilling.
An Opus on Business, Management, and Environmental Action.......2007-08-16
Yvon writes clearly and succinctly about his triumphs and mistakes. He's fanatical about product quality but insists on his MBA style of management (management by absence). He shows how doing the right thing is frequently profitable and Patagonia has been a field leader ever since Chouinard decided early on that his petons were destroying the rocks that he climbed on. Making a daring move away from his top selling product to a new product, the hexentric nuts; that would not wreck the rock, proved to be a genius move. Since then, Patagonia has lead the field with material science in using PCR soda bottles in their fleece jackets, making the switch to Organic Cotton, and building the Reno, Nevada Service Center out of all sorts of recycled materials and green technologies
Yvon also discusses how childcare and healthy cafeteria food contribute to a more productive work environment. He rewards employees for purchasing hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles.
Patagonia publishes catalogs that are artful for their photography while at the same time they are calls to action on various environmental issues. There is no push to higher priced products or mega sale enticement. Patagonia has become the best in the outdoor industry by challenging the status quo and daring to be different. It's Yvon's disdain for the mentality of behaving like a sheep and blindly following the current trends whether in business or life that make him extraordinary. It is my hope that he will produce more books of this quality in the future. I finished the book in three days- I couldn't put it down.Patagonia: Notes from the Field
You've got to read this one.......2007-07-02
Whether you're looking for a case study on: a successful business with happy employees, how to create a business from your passion, or what businesses need to do to help the environment.
From management tips, to HR lessons learned, Yvon brings in all his Patagonia experience (good and bad).
As one of the first environmentally-conscious companies in the world, Yvon has a lot to say about the world and what needs to happen:
"The Zen master would say if you want to change government, you have to aim at changing corporations, and if you want to change corporations, you first have to change the consumers." -Yvon Chouinard
This is a book you can't ignore. Especially since Yvon pioneered the `green business' movement back in the 80's.
Investigate the claims in this book.......2007-06-28
If someone was to investigate the claims made in this book, there would be conflict. Patagonia is a corporation, like any other. Their main purpose is profit. Do they offer loads of color variations on their underwear for the environment, or because Yvon is a "reluctant businessman"? I doubt it.
They do contribute money to the environment. This is true. But where do you think this money comes from? Their employees are paid at the bottom of the scale, and their prices are at a premium. So shouldn't their employees be getting credit for these contributions instead of Yvon?
At best, this book is a manifesto of what a company could do, not what any company is currently. From what I've heard, The Management section in this book is nonsense. If anyone was to investigate the claims made in this book in detail, and make the authors prove what they claim, Patagonia would be caught with their $125 pants down, revealing their $35 underwear.
