New, wicked humor from the author of the bestselling Bunny Suicides books
On the heels of his runaway Bunny Suicides books, cartoonist Andy Riley turns his irreverent wit to another group of small creatures that lurk among us seemingly everywhere: children.
From the benign (every ant you meet must be named) to the truly cruel (Ronald McDonald is dead!), each hilarious cartoon has a tall tale to educate children and entertain wicked adults everywhere.
Praise for Andy Riley:

absolutely hysterical.......2007-08-12
The perfect gift for new or soon-to-be parents with an open and dry sense of humor.
"If you utter the trigger word 'Badminton' to your grandmother...".......2007-04-21
"...her original programming will activate and she will kill all humans."
This caption runs underneath a picture of an elderly woman in a rocking chair reading, while a boy looks at her trepidatiously.
If you find this sort of thing amusing, I suspect that like me, you'll very much enjoy this book. These comics are sort of like a British youngsters version of Dan Piraro's excellent "Bizarro." By making things deliberately topsy-turvy, Andy Riley gets us to think about the world in a different way.
And that's a good thing.

Very Short, Nothing Hillarious Here but if Cheap or in Your Local Library Give it a Look.......2006-12-12
Andy Riley certainly isn't in the high quality non children aimed cartoon leagues of say Gary Larson (The Far Side) but this book will certainly releive the boredom, albeit only for ten minutes or so as there are not that many cartoons inside here.
It is very unlikely you would find kids stupid enough to beleive any of these lies within but I don't think they're meant to. The book is what it is, basic cartoons telling far fetched stories to tell kids or gullible adults.
Funny Brit.......2006-09-04
This is an adult British cartoon book, meaning some of the humor is going to be quite off color. Of course you may have guessed that with the title. I gave it to my husband for father's day, and we both got some good chuckles out of it. As another reviewer said, it is very short.
Great stuff!.......2006-08-10
I bought this book seeing it next to the Bunny Suicides books, so I knew what to expect, and I loved every page of it. Brilliant!

If you are taking yourself, your practice, or life a little too seriously then pick up a copy of this book, sit in swing and read it with a cup of green tea and a smile.
provocative, funny journey through the Crazy Wisdom landscape.......2000-06-13
Romp with Wes through the world of clowns, jesters and fools while you unearth the paradox that is present in our daily lives. This irreverent look at the world from the mindsets and customs of both the Eastern and Western world will make you laugh and realize that what you you will eat for breakfast is the most important thing in the world. For those who enjoy seeing esoteric views of our world and enjoy humourous examinations of our many follies, pick up your pack and join the archetypes as you travel down the road.
Thouroughly entertaining and easy reading.......1999-10-27
Crazy Wisdom offers an entertaining, easily digested, and concise view of some of the prominant philosophies and religions today. I thouroughly enjoyed it for its simplicity, insightfulness, respect, and comedy. I recommend this book to everybody. Close-minded people need not apply.
Great thoughts and inspirations . . ........1999-07-30
Crazy Wisdom is a straight-forward view of the modern human condition. Through the examination of many religious concepts, CW presents an excellent point of view. If you find this book you are on a rewarding but difficult path . . . and my words are but one more signpost. Eastward Ho!
If it makes sense, then its not philosophy........1998-09-21
Our world is plagued by rigid, intolerant religions, dogmatic "truths" and people who take themselves and their ideas too seriously. Then along comes Wes Nisker with his humble little paperback that can hold its own next to The Bible on the bookshelf. This book explores everything that is central to true enlightenment: the ridiculous, the blasphemous, the paradoxal, the rebellious, the foolish. This book embraces all that society rejects, and in doing so, unearths the very missing link to our spiritual evolution. There's no reason to fear. Journey with Wes and his troop of clowns, poets, mystics, thinkers and fools as they explore the philosopies of East and West with a grain of salt the size of a boulder. Along the way he points out that the world's greatest and most revered thinkers, prophets, poets, scientists, artists and activists were all considered "crazy" in their day and viewed as outlaws and criminals by their contemperaries. Partake in this humourous and easy to read exploration of the absurb side of philosophy, and see that the various spiritual and philosophical traditions of the world have more in common than they'd probably like to admit to each other.
Book Description
The Passion of the Christ, directed by Mel Gibson, was a commercial success of astonishing proportions, ranking as one of the highest grossing films of all time. It also unleashed a torrent of controversy and debate, provoking passionate responses, both negative and positive, from people of widely divergent backgrounds and beliefs. Exposing fundamental differences of opinion about everything from the historical reliability of gospel stories to the political power of Hollywood, the film continues to stir up accusations of anti-Semitism, gratuitous violence, and gross misrepresentation of the Bible. This book--whose contributors include theologians, journalists, academics, and clergy from Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish traditions--provides a wide spectrum of views and backgrounds. The essays consider the historical and ethical conundrums presented by the New Testament in general and by The Passion of the Christ in particular. The contributors' discussions range from the film's theological and historical underpinnings, to its cinematic and cultural implications, to the issues surrounding the millennia-long question "Who really killed Jesus?"

Reissue of cloth with new title.......2006-03-17
This is a reissue of the book _Perspectives on The Passion of the Christ_, published in cloth by Miramax Books, 2005 (ISBN 1401359590). The only difference is the new preface by Paula Fredriksen. Check for reviews under cloth title. It's a great collection of essays, but the price, $19.95, is the same as the cloth, and the publisher has not made any reference to the cloth edition. People might buy the same thing twice. Hence only four stars.

Book Description
For the opera singer, the chapter on crossover is pertinent. Hong-Young's solutions to the challenge of making the operatic voice sound idiomatic on Broadway are straightforward.
- Opera News
. . . one of the best books on this subject that we have seen.
- Stage Directions
This technical handbook on studying singing provides what few others do: both a scientific basis
and practical guide. In it, Arabella Hong-Young, who has been a singer for 60 years and a teacher for 40 years, explains the vocal apparatus and process in simple, comprehensible terms. She also offers extensive exercises to guide students through detailed steps in learning to sing.
The vocal techniques she presents are geared to solve specific challenges throughout the range from the simplest approaches for the beginnerproper posture, breath control, voice placementto the more advanced study for professional students, including:
- the adaptation of a classical technique for improving vocal quality and control in musical theatre, pop, rock, and jazz singing
- "Zen in the Art of Studying Singing" for focusing the mind to get the most out of one's studies
- "How to Audition" for the complete process from the audition package, attitude, preparation, and presentation to controlling fear.
For this revised edition, Hong-Young offers a new featured chapter, "Conquer the Hole in the Voice," in which she supplies unusual insight into handling the upper and lower passaggio changes in voice. Passing from one register into another requires adjustment in vocal placement and Hong-Young explains exactly how this is achieved. Her detailed and numerous exercises help singers solve this universal problem.
Anyone serious about singing, whether amateur or professional, will benefit from the wealth of instruction in this book. It is also ideal as a supplement and reference guide for students, teachers, and classes.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointing.......2007-09-06
This book is full of wrong information, too much to go into, that is easily recognized by someone who actually took the time to get an actual vocal pedagogy education. This book would get an "F" if it was turned in as a project in a vocal pedagogy class. I am still fascinated and dismayed by what "experts" get away with when it comes to teaching voice. What is equally disappointing, is that there are so-called "teachers" that consider this a valuable text. Please do not teach because you could not make it as a singer.
A necessity for any singer wanting to get to the next level.......2004-09-21
As a singer, sometimes what is taught to you is ethereal and ineffable. Hong-Young effectively lays out the ground work for developing and maintaining an effective, efficient, and exceptional voice. Not only does she explain things in a pedogological manner, she also brings heart and soul into the voice and its power. An all-around great resource for the beginner to the advanced professional.
The best book on learning how to sing!.......2004-08-24
This is the best book I've seen on teaching you singing techniques. The book addresses typical problem areas that all students encounter with simple approaches on how to solve them. The books' format is easy to follow and the chapters are clear and to the point. Exercises are included which are of great value to any student.
The primary reference work for singers and teachers.......2004-02-17
Mrs. Young brings forty-plus years of teaching experience into this book, offering a clear and concise overview of various methods of vocal technique. She includes clear descriptions of each approach and practical ways of applying these techniques.
This is the best book about vocal technique that I have ever read. I recommend it to my own students and to everyone interested in the voice.

A Well-Written Overview.......2005-11-01
As a private voice teacher I read everything I can find on vocal study, techniques and approaches. Singing Professionally, is a solid well-written overview that I would recommend to anyone starting or thinking about starting vocal training. While this book is clear and well organized, it can best be used as a broad summary to help make prospective students aware of the many aspects involved in voice study.
[professional singing.......2001-07-24
I don't have this book but I got it from the library and I is a great book it explains the diffrent parts of the voice and teaches you how to fix the problem in the diffrent areas like the phonations, breaks in the voice how to smooth it over and also where the chest, mix, head ,and the flageolet ranges. I tells you how to smooth it over and make you a better singer and sing with confidence. So if your a singer this is the book for you
Book Description
Not exercises but common sense text: erroneous theories, basic aims, techniques, abilities, other background.
Customer Reviews:
Hey, this isn't a pep talk.......2004-04-03
The reason some readers are turned off by this book is because Kagen's opening point is that not everybody can sing professionally, no matter how much training they receive (just like the point that some people aren't ever going to be cut out for professional basketball). That said, Kagen does have some good things to say about the importance of developing your inner ear and not getting bogged down by too much technical twaddle. If you want to read about singing or learning how to sing, this probably shouldn't be your first book, but it shouldn't be the last you get around too, either. Other helpful books are by Clifton Ware, Richard Miller, and James McKinney.
Not true!.......2002-11-10
It was unfortunate this was the first singing book I ever read and so I gave up on singing. Pretty much the author say singing is a borned talent and cannot be taught. Not true! Recently, I started taking some singing lessons to find out for myself and I have improved dramatically. You can do anything in life if you have good discipline and alot of perserverence! Don't let anyone tell you that you can't.
Excellent reference for beginners.......2002-04-20
As a young college music student, Kagen's book was an excellent starting point in my vocal study. I would recommend giving this book to read to anyone considering studying voice professionally. Not only does Kagen write realistically about who can and cannot learn how to sing like an opera diva, but he goes through and breaks down into steps the process of learning a song or a difficult florid passage. Though he can be rather repetitive (this is the reason for three stars) and hold to much of the "old" in vocal pedagogy, his ideas are an ideal starting place for further discussion in both the study and teaching of voice.
decent, but not as good as other things i've read.......2000-05-16
not that great, not so informative. for the amateur

The Arts of the Sailor.......2007-08-15
This book has some of the most clearly articulated and illustrated instructions I have ever encountered.
This book should be owned by every sailor.......2007-06-12
A great book chock full of interesting ideas to make your boat more seamanlike. The definative rope working book.
great book.......2007-05-22
This is an excellent resource book and we will use it a lot....
Unique book on knots as applied to sailing.......2007-03-18
This is a unique book on knots. It has a sailing perspective, but I enjoyed it and I don't sail at all. The drawings are about the best I've ever seen for knots. His chapter on splicing is so clear that you will turn in a good eye splice the first time you try! A classic
An excellent resource for new and old traditional sailors........2007-03-15
This is another excellent piece by the late Hervey Garrett Smith. It's sort of a companion to "The Marlinspike Sailor" (ibid), though it is somewhat more expansive on many fundamental topics like knots, bends, whippings and seizings. There is a good bit of overlap between the two books, although this one is both more comprehensive and a smaller physical book (for your small onboard library...) "The Marlinspike Sailor" is more project oriented - and has excellent plans and diagrams for practical onboard ropework and sewing projects - while this book is focussed on the elements that go into such projects (without the actual examples). It's very traditional - as with all of Smith's period writing - with little or no reference to modern materials, but it's a posthumous reprint, so don't expect much updating... but the style is both informative and interesting without being dry or obtuse. "The Marlinspike Sailor" might actually be a better starting point for a true beginner (and it does contain a short update to 'modern' braided rope in the back), but I have them both and don't regret it.

Customer Reviews:
A great lesson from a mouse.......2007-03-24
From the first page this book began teaching lessons worth well more than the cover price! Im a retail manager that often looks for ways to drive my teams and actively engage my customers.
Through well written examples of several operating practices you slowly begin to learn how the daily operations of Disney World apply to your own business. Within the first few chapters I was sharing the principles with my team leaders.
The entire book is written in a way thats not typical of business improvement books. The Disney template allows you to understand the theories by recalling your own visit to Disney World or Disneyland. You remember the small details that you encounter during your stay. The book even points out those elements taken for granted that would detract from the experience if they werent there; like pavement textures and garbage cans and it all makes sense.
I bought this book after a very positive recent visit to Disneyland. This is actaully when I would recommend buyng the book. Either before or right after a visit. Trust me, this will impact your understanding of the books priciples.
If Walt Disney had known how his own business beliefs would affect the 21st Century business person I feel he'd be proud. Forget the old corporate templates and listen with your heart to Walts vision of how to please your customers. Be our guest will provide the magic carpet ride, you just have to get on.
another one for Disney.......2007-02-11
lot's of great info from the Disney point of view. It may seem the book only applies to the theme park environment, but it's easy to apply their guidelines to almost any business
Service Excellence.......2007-01-10
Great book with actionable ideas that I have implemented in my company and they are making a possitive difference. Even if you are not in a "leadership" position, by sharing these processes with your boss or even testing them on a small scale and letting others see the possitive impact, you will look like a star. Disney is not a huge success by accident.
Bottom line: it all comes back to customer service. You want to keep customers or get more customers; get this book and don't be afraid to try what is in it.
Should we be Surprised?.......2006-08-26
Disney, as reflected in their stellar "guest satisfaction and loyalty," at their theme parks has brought this resource to the manager, and customer retention specialist. In so doing, the writers reveal the "magical secret" of how to create loyal raving fans of your business. It is no secret that with today's globalization, expereince economy, and scare of commoditization for businesses, this is a MUST read for anyone that has anything to do with a customer. Great work once again!
The Science Behind the Magic.......2004-11-23
This book is a quick read, yet has a very detailed and adaptable structure around which to build a customer service organization. The process presented in the book works systematically to create a self-renewing customer service structure, while allowing those using it to retain the distinctiveness of their organization. In addition to historic examples of how Disney has consistently applied their own principles, the book uses examples from former clients, including details of how they adapted those principles to their businesses.
This is the perfect book for someone looking to create more than just a laundry list of policies and procedures. For fans of Disney, the book also gives terrific insights into Walt Disney's vision and the Disney way of doing things.
