A memorable passage from The Art of the Dragonlance Saga explains the saga's birth in 1984: "The god who began to envision the possibility of this world in his mind was the God of Marketing. This god ascended from his mighty throne one day in early 1983 and announced that he had done a survey. And, according to the survey, people who played the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS® game wanted more dragons."
And more dragons they got. The prolific and extraordinarily popular writing duo of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman produced a veritable treasure trove of books telling of the heroic exploits and dastardly deeds of the denizens of their fantasy world. The Art of the Dragonlance Saga, long out of print, collects all the art from the novels, calendars, and game products that the God of Marketing created. This is an extremely rich collection, with sketches, paintings, drawings, and studies of beloved characters and settings. It is also full of artist's notes, character development, and explanations of the ways in which the books and the art coevolved. A must-have for Dragonlance fans, The Art of the Dragonlance Saga is also wonderful eye candy for all swords and sorcery fans. --Therese Littleton
Customer Reviews:
Amazing!.......2004-06-05
I have to agree with the other reviews on this book, it's a MUST have at any price.
The art from the early Dragonlance covers has always been some of my favorite fantasy art, and this book dives deeper in the vaults to bring out art that if you're like me might never have seen. Some of the art is from the dragonlance calandars, posters, etc. This book will leave you with a deep appriciation for Larry Elmore and the other great artists who've done these covers.
The art of my name!.......2003-01-11
I was born with the name of Raistlin.. naturally i would want to see the character i was named after. This book provided me with the start to my passion with Dragon Lance.
It goes into detail and explains everything (how the dragon riders stay on the dragons etc.).
I have one copy and so does my Dad, but mine has pages missing from when he used them as posters. I want another copy but it depends how much i am willing to pay on e bay.
This book is worth getting for a price such as £50.
Enjoy.
Excellent, excellent book!.......2002-03-04
This book is worth every penny I paid to get it. It includes a short story about how the Dragonlance epic came to be, the four original color roughs (by Larry Elmore), sketches of the dragonlance and saddle and how to use it, sketches and pictures of the many types of draconians, armor and weapons, beautiful oil and acrylic pictures, a little history and pictures of the Heroes of the Lance, pictures and history of minor characters such as Lord Lorac, the elven king, and much, much more! This book is a must-have for any Dragonlance collector. You won't be disappointed!
Lavish selection of TSR's best works.......2000-04-30
This gorgeous book is one of the finest compendiums of TSR artwork ever created - it is loaded full of hundreds of illustrations, free of print, on glossy paper; included are every piece of full-color artwork ever created for Dragonlance (up through 1987), supplemented with rich text and many, many concept sketches that appear nowhere else! For Dragonlance afficionados, or those who appreciated classic art by Easley, Caldwell, Parkinson, Elmore, and more, this is the ideal collection.
Wonderfully Organized! Beautifully Presented!.......1999-07-05
This was an absolutely beautifully laid out book. It contains 'round 40 full color full page prints of paintings of the dragonlance saga. Along with the prints there is also background info. on how the artists put the images together, along with an intriguing storyline that ran with the images. An absolutely fantastic book... can't say much more about it!

Book Description
Rat, Pig, Zebra, and Goat, the central characters of Pearls Before Swine, are back in their new book, Sgt. Piggy's Lonely Hearts Club Comic, the first Pearls Before Swine treasury-supersized for your enjoyment. But this is no ordinary cartoon treasury. Like the influential Beatles album that inspired the book's title, Sgt. Piggy is full of surprises. In addition to collecting in one volume all of the Pearls cartoons that appeared in BLTs Taste So Darn Good and This Little Piggy Stayed Home, cartoonist Stephan Pastis takes readers on a VIP backstage tour of one of the most successful new comic strips in newspapers today. In Sgt. Piggy, Pastis explains the genesis of Pearls (hint: it didn't begin at an artist's easel), why he was initially reluctant to show it to newspaper syndicates (and the surprising reason he changed his mind), the unexpected responses from readers to his work (oh, the letters), which Pearls strips worked and which ones didn't (and how he would have corrected the ones that didn't). The result is a rare and revealing glimpse into the world of Rat and Pig, Goat and Zebra. Full of humor and insight, sardonic asides and unexpected truths, Sgt. Piggy's Lonely Hearts Club Comic is a book that comics fans everywhere can enjoy anytime-even when they're 64.

Totally Awesome!.......2007-05-30
I've been a Pearls Before Swine fan for a while, and I love this book! The comics are funny and realistic (rather), though a bit dark. But it's still worthwhile. I like how Stephan Pastis puts little comments under some comics. It's nice to see some insight from the author. The beginning is good as well, with Pastis telling how he got into the comic business. Overall, I highly recommend this book to Pearls Before Swine fans, and to anyone looking for a funny (but not always happy) comic.
Great book!.......2007-05-03
I always start my mornings out with a nice healthy strip of Pearls. This first Pearls treasury is a must for all fans! It contains all the strips from the first two books (BLTs Taste So Darn Good, This Little Piggy Stayed Home), but the Sundays are in color and Pastis even includes some personal comments for select strips. The comments offer a different way to look at the strip, giving insight to what the author was thinking or how the audience reacted to the strip.
Best Comic Strip Out There.......2007-01-24
The first Pearls comic I've ever saw was the strip where Pig made Fidel Castro cry and I've been hooked ever since. I've had this collection for about a year and it still makes me laugh. A great gift for friends or yourself, an instant classic.
Hilarious!.......2007-01-20
This book is fantastic. I am a Pearls reader, but anyone with a dry, sardonic sense of humor will like it. For Pearls fans, it has an introduction and bonus comments by the author, which are illuminating and very interesting. I laughed out loud at least fifty times while reading it, then I bought it for my brother, too. Highest recommendation!
See my review of Lions & Tigers & Crocs .......2007-01-05
The second (or first, I forget which) anthology of PBS and I loved it.
I have the strip about women and shoes posted on the fridge so my wife can see it every day. It hasn't stopped her from buying shoes but it makes me laugh every morning.

Who says the left wing doesn't have a sense of humor? Maybe it doesn't, but documentarian Michael Moore sure does--Exhibit A was Roger & Me; B was the ill-fated TV Nation; and C is 1997's print skirmish Downsize This! Moore's politics are rabidly liberal, populist, and anti-big business--about what you'd expect from the former editor of Mother Jones. While this restricts his audience to Americans on the left side of the aisle, for them Downsize This! will be a chance to point and laugh hysterically (if ruefully) at the clique of rich white guys who run everything.
Moore is at his best as a prankster, whether it's trying to see if Pat Buchanan will take a campaign donation from the John Wayne Gacy Fan Club (yes) or whether he can have Bob Dornan committed to an insane asylum based on his bizarre behavior (no, but it was close). Moore is one of our sharpest satirists, and Downsize This! makes one wish he would write a "Sorry State of the Union" every year. But only if it doesn't cut into his moviemaking--that's too big a price to pay. --Michael Gerber
Book Description
Americans today are working harder, working longer and yet for most of us, in this time of ruthless downsizing and political cronyism, job security, a decent standard of living and a comfortable retirement are becoming harder and harder to find. In this brilliantly funny and right-on-target diatribe, irreverent everyman Michael Moore gives his own bold views on who's behind the fading of the American dream.
Whether issuing Corporate Crook trading cards, organizing a Rodney King Commemorative Riot, sending a donation to Pat Buchanan from the John Wayne Gacy fan club (which was accepted) or trying to commit former right-wing congressman Bob Dornan to a mental hospital, the in-your-face host of TV Nation and director/star of Roger & Me combines an expansive wit with biting social commentary to make you think and laugh at the same time.
In hardcover, Downsize This! stormed the bestseller lists of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle and others. Given Michael Moore's enormous -- and growing -- constituency, this trade paperback edition brings his unique perspective on the nation to an even greater audience.

Love it.......2007-05-09
I just love Michael Moore. Have a few books by him. He is frank, to the point and raises questions. He makes you sit and think and ask questions yourself.
Entertaining broad propaganda.......2007-02-14
[Crown Hardcover] Lacking the wit of left-of-center pundits like Al Franken or Bill Mahr, Michael Moore tries harder - sometimes trying *too hard* such as tossing in barbs at the inconsistencies of Saturday Night Live - and does make compelling points about the phenomenon of CEO ascendancy and workforce oblivion; Bob Dornan, G. Gordon Liddy, Steve Forbes far-right/far-out observations and recommendations, etc., but just like his offensively titled movie "Farenheit 911"...it needs more meat on the bone. And less facetiousness - okay, most of these CEOs are "non-ethnic" folks but by including the color of their eyes in a long litany of names and reputations is stretching the point. (In addition, in all fairness - look that word up, Mike - it's quite possible that many [GM?] workers had to be let go because product quality and customer service went down, profits or no profits...sometimes I like to reflect on my '82 Skyhawk experience and a few "hot-line" exchanges with people who acted somewhat...indifferent). The suggestion that downsizing is the order of the day for single-minded greedy guys is a little too simple.
An interesting chapter is on President Clinton, who MM sees as a leader who got off to a running start, then ran in all directions, sometimes well into "enemy"/right-wing territory. Whatever motivated him, his conservative view on Welfare and Economic Reform showed that the "complicated" millenium man President made some bold and intelligent *adjustments*. Moore finds this perplexing.
Moore does have a message, however, and he gets us to ask questions. This book might not get you to rethink your views but it will cause you to see things in a different light. That can be fun reading.
Back When Moore Had a Real Issue.............2006-06-17
This is from an era where Micheal Moore actually made valid points. I'm a Republican, but I'm also a Christian. That means I believe that people are supposed to give a darn about something besides just money. Greed and heartlessness in the corporate world are very real... though I'm a capitalist, this greed thing is something that I struggle with. There are folks who lose their jobs for no reason at all, hard working people with nowhere to go.
It's not right.
But when the government gets involved, I can't say things are made any better.
Nonetheless, Moore makes some valid points in this book, which is from an era when he was more than an anti-gun, anti-war loony.
If you work hard and the company prospers, you lose your job.......2006-05-17
Of course, this book is partly out-of-date. It covers mainly the Clinton years. But the issues it tackles are still very actual.
- the unemployment issue: Manpower is still the number one US employer and corporate downsizing continues unabatingly
- the salary issue: worker's salaries are still less today in real dollar terms than in 1979
- the CEO salary issue: a CEO earns 212 times more than an average worker
- the healthcare issue: more than 40 million US citizens cannot afford healthcare insurance
- the voting issue: why is only a small part of the US population voting?
- the abortion issue: 'outlawing abortion would mean a return to the good old dirty, unsafe days of illegal abortion'
- the corporate representation issue: few blacks or workers
- the race and affirmative action issue: still necessary
- the immigration issue: all US citizens are descendants of immigrants
- the corporate fraud issue: Enron and Co
- the welfare v. Aid to Dependent Corporations issue
and most amazing of all, 'the balanced budget issue', proposed by the Reps. But once in office, the Reps digged enormous holes in the budget by offering heavy tax cuts to the super-wealthy!
However, Michael Moore committed also a colossal blunder: 'Democrat? Republican? Can you tell the Difference?'
That Michael Moore's voice is terribly feared by the wealthy, the powerful, the conservatives and the religious right, is mercilessly exposed in the excellent movie 'This divided State' by Steven Greenstreet.
We need his vitriolic voice.
Michael Moore Throws a Tantrum.......2006-05-02
I've seen Michael Moore on TV, humorously trying to get an appointment Roger Smith (then General Motors chairman). The book "Downsize This!" has the moral high ground concerning the looting of corporations by CEOs, accompanied by plant closings. However, I rapidly lost interest because author Moore strayed from this subject. After thirty-seven pages of wandering. I concluded that he'd forgotten about it.
Moore is right about some other things. The American dream has gone up in smoke, and the political parties are alike.
However, Moore quickly resorts to mindlessly repeating the entire litany of liberal thought, spiced up with insults to anyone who doesn't agree with him. We are asked to believe that Joe Citizen is a militia target. Oklahoma City is redneck. Pat Buchanan doesn't agree with Moore, so Buchanan is motivated by hate and fear. Moore uses generalizations and stereotypes. He attacks the opposition's motives rather than their facts and logic.
Moore's grandparents were immigrants and anti-immigration talk makes him feel bad. People who are against immigration, are "a_ holes." Moore tells us that immigrants aren't a drain on welfare, they don't commit crime, they only take jobs that other people won't do. Moore says that if my surname was not on the Mayflower passenger list, then I have to "shut the f_ _k up" about curtailing immigration.
No facts, no figures, no research, no logic, no quotes, just bare opinion. Page 37, I'm out of here. Plunk, wastebasket.
There were some good parts in. Moore's movie "Canadian Bacon." I think he should stick to screenplay.

For the serious film studies student.......1996-07-29
As one of Dr. Palmer's students at Georgia State University, I found him to be an excellent professor, one who is proficient not only in film but also in literature and classical studies. His insights to this very-American genre is, at least, obtainable and useful. His instruction, as well as his writing, is readable and his insights are easily applied to the study of nott only film noir, but any other discipline of film studies. By breaking down a few select examples from the film noir genre (Murder, My Sweet, Taxi Driver, Double Indemnity, Vertigo, etc.) he traces several key characteristics of the typical film noir, like issues of character, plot, theme, sexuality, and feminism. To be frank, I do not have to book in front of me so I can not quickly review it fully and wholly, complete with specific quoted passages to back up my recommendation. It is an affordable book so please trust me. This is an indispensable book for the film noir student

Book Description
Regarded by many as Brahms' first real chamber work, the Clarinet Quintet is here placed in the context of chamber music in general, Brahms' own earlier music, and the history and repertory of the clarinet generally. In addition to providing a detailed analysis, Colin Lawson pays special attention to performance traditions and also to the influence of Brahms' music on later composers. This handbook is the first comprehensive study of this work and it reflects the author's wide experience both as performer and scholar.

Excellent!.......2003-07-08
Very interesting edition. Noteheads are large and well readable. The preface is very interesting, and lists some passages found in Brahms' autographs that were crossed out and rewritten (e.g. the beginning of the Clarinet Quintet). Hans Gal (the editor) made a great work in preparing this edition!
Excellent Value.......2003-01-01
This fat Dover edition is an excellent deal if you're playing any one of these pieces. I think they reprinted the Breitkopf and Hartel edition, so every marking should be legitimate. Definitely a key component of the chamber music score library. And like most Dover scores, it stays open easily if you set it down- it's bound in such a way that it won't close by itself all the time.
Book Description
Perform timeless Clarinet works with The Classic String Quartet! Perfect for practice, rehearsal, auditions, contest solos, performances, and more! Brahms' magnificent B-minor Clarinet Quintet is one of the summits of the chamber repertoire for clarinet. It is in many ways an homage to Mozart's classic quintet for clarinet. Not to be overlooked by any serious clarinetist. This deluxe 2-CD set includes the quintet in its original key with printed parts for both A and B-flat clarinets, and adds a repitched version for B-flat clarinetists, allowing players of that instrument to learn the same fingerings as the composer's intended A clarinet for performance purposes.
Includes a high-quality, newly engraved printed music score with parts in the original key for both A clarinet and B-flat clarinets; plus a compact disc with a complete recording of the quintet, with soloist; and a second performance minus the soloist. Also includes a second compact disc containing a recording of the quintet repitched to allow B-flat clarinetists to play the original written part for A-clarinet.

FACTS the Insurance Agents Hope you NEVER KNOW.......2007-10-01
After readying this you will see the MOTIVATION for the Agents selling this line of BS, it will take most of you over 20 years to have any type of REAL NET return on your Life Insurance Policy. Want the TRUTH talk to an unbiased ACTUARY not a saleperson making a fortune off of your home equity. I am telling you when people finally realize what is taking place lawsuits will start to fly, IMO.
When did the Life Insurance Agent become a charitable organization?
Anyone who is believing this so called NEW way of thinking is either really bad with math or simply does NOT understand Life Insurance. There is a REASON you don't see REAL professionals using this concept they KNOW the TRUTH!!!
What is the ROI on my home Equity? MORE THAN ANY LIFE POLICY!!!!
After you learn how to subtract out all the commissions and fees, then the REAL cost of the death benefit, loan fees for your house loan fees for the life policy let's sit down and compare which approach works best. Having my house free and clear with NO COMMISSIONS to pay, no loans, and no INCREASING internal costs for the life insurance will BEAT any Life Policy I GUARANTEE IT!
Here is a shocker to reality. If you bought into this BS and mortgaged your house and placed the money into a life policy order a current statement for your policy showing the SURRENDER CASH VALUE in the first year, HOW MUCH did you LOSE? Then look at the 5th year how much have you LOST? Tenth year? Do the REAL MATH find out the REAL FACTS.
LIFE INSURANCE is one of the HIGHEST commissioned products in the financial industry FACT! Where do you think that money comes from, YOUR POCKET.
Here is a little KNOWN FACT there are currently MANY so called experts out there today TRAINING for a large fee many other life insurance agents how to SELL LARGE COMMISSIONED life insurance policies. They don't care if you need a policy or NOT they only care about SELLING a policy. Check the facts. Some are even paying for cruises for Seniors then encouraging them to apply for insurance. IT IS HIGHLY PROFITABLE to someone BUT NOT YOU the policyholder.
You will see many lawsuits in the coming years from these abuses when the you know what finally hits the fan.
By the way did you know that it was illegal for you stock broker to encourage you to take out a mortgage to buy a REAL INVESTMENT? It should also be illegal for Insurance Agents but it's not, well not YET, time will tell.
Where is Elliot Spritzer when you need him?
I wish more people would ask the harder questions before believing this new line of BS.
FACTS The INSURANCE AGENT want to hide from you: Insurance agents make about a 30-50% commission on term life insurance and around 90-95% commission on whole life products. Keep in mind that this is the first year commission on the premium and subsequent year commissions are much lower with an average of 6% per year for whole life products and 4% per year on term life insurance products.
One of the great problems with whole life is only an expert can tell if a policy you own or are considering will ever become a decent investment. James Hunt, actuary for the Consumer Federation of America, who has analyzed thousands of policies, notes that whole life policies hardly ever yield a reasonable return unless held for 20 years or more.
So if you buy one be prepared to pay into it for the very long haul.
The key to a whole life policy is its internal rate of return -- the yield on the policy after all fees and charges are subtracted. A competent analysis can determine at a minimum whether the weight of the fees and charges built into one of these policies will ever allow a worthwhile return. Such an analysis will also pinpoint the minimum amount of cash value that you can derive from a policy at any given time interval.
Some financial planners, actuaries and accountants can perform internal rate of return analysis on your policy. The Consumer Federation has a service that will do this, calculating the real return year by year and comparing it with other investments. The fee is $50 for the first policy, $35 for each additional. Call 603-224-2805 for more information.
Get Your Fortune Back.......2007-09-17
This is an excellent book with many examples of how changing your money management and especially you equity management strategy will result in greater wealth and safety in investing for you. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the author belabors several points and essentially is just repeating the same material over and over. Other than that, the ideas and strategies are well worth looking at and the authors heart is in the right place.
Good read but be wary........2007-09-04
Like many of the other reviews, I agree the concept is interesting and makes sense for very specific cases. I would be causious of thinking this is for everyone who owns a home.
The concept in general is simple, which I like. If you can explain it to a 12 year old then I think you have a good grasp of the idea. Doug does a good job of breaking it down so that most of us can easily understand and probably explain it to a 12 year old. Applying it over the long term is something entirely different. In California most people do refinance or sell every 5 so years. This concept at least tells them to focus on saving rather than spending it, something that most Americans do not do well.
I would recommend reading it and understanding it but talking to several advisors and other people who have experience with this before acting.
Although not for everyone, you would be remiss if you didn't learn the strategies........2007-07-25
Much has already been said - to which I endorse this book's overwhelming ability to change the way you think. With that I also caution the need for clarity and focus in the execution of these strategies. I have been fortunate to meet with Doug and had him explain these strategies personally. Although these strategies could benefit everyone, not everyone is the same and thus differing results are inevitable. After having read this book, I not only implemented these strategies myself, but have integrated them into my professional practice and have clients grateful for the insights. To reiterate, these strategies are not for everyone. If you read the book I think it becomes self evident who it is not appropriate for, but may I allude to them as those who feel "equity is for consumption and not conservation".
Investment version of War & Peace.......2007-05-14
Very thorough with a tremendous amount of information and investment concepts. I read it in 3 1/2 days and have re-read several chapters.
