Book Description
Photography has been widely accepted as an art form for several years, with museums on the subject in every major American and European city. Nude art photography takes a special position in this development. The human body has been a subject of art for centuries. As with other art forms, nude art photography explores the borders of the medium. The focus in this book is on the aesthetic. The Body contains photos from the international collection of The Gallery of Esthetic Photography (GEP). The GEP holds the largest collection of nude art photography in Europe. Featured photographers include the Spanish celebrity photographer Miquel Arnal. His black and white personal work is rich in contrast and evokes feelings of bewilderment. German born Klaus Kampert uses dancers as his models. Perfect lighting and an eye for detail and composition result in top class images with abstract characteristics. At the other end of the spectrum is the work of the Argentinean photographer Walter Bosque. He positions his models in dramatic environmental settings resulting in stark contrasts, for instance that of white skin and burned forest.

A merger has taken place between Peter Novobatzky and Ammon Shea's books Depraved English and Insulting English. The result? Depraved and Insulting English. "Some of the entries are lascivious," the authors say, "some revolting, and others derogatory. A few are all of these things." This book will provide blissful browsing for anyone who ever got a fourth-grade thrill from looking up naughty words in the dictionary or, later, felt a frisson of pleasure from using obscure but racy words that few others understood. Many of the terms here--such as coprolagnia, cypripareunia, hybristophiliac, peotillomian, and sacofricosis--sound downright illicit. More intriguing are the words that sound perfectly acceptable, like blissom, feist, and plooky. But watch out for the plooky fellow who lets out a feist when he blissoms; he's actually a pimply guy who farts silently while copulating with ewes. Eeew. --Jane Steinberg
Book Description
Originally published as two distinct collections, Depraved and Insulting English brings to light the language's most offensive and obscene words--words that have fallen out of today's lexicon but will no doubt delight, amuse, and in some cases prove surprisingly useful. Who hasn't searched for the right word to describe a colleague's maschalephidrosis (runaway armpit perspiration) or a boss's pleonexia (insane greed)? And what better way is there to insult the scombroid landlord (resembling a mackerel) or that tumbrel of a brother-in-law (a person who is drunk to the point of vomiting) than by calling him by his rightful name?
A compact compendium of ingenious words for anyone who's been tongue-tied, flabbergasted, or dumbfounded, Depraved and Insulting English supplies the appropriate vocabulary for any occasion. Word lovers, chronic insulters, berayers, bescumbers, and bespewers need fear no more--finding the correct word to wow your friends or silence your enemies just got a whole lot easier.
Customer Reviews:
Perfect light reading for the linguistic connoisseur.......2004-03-24
I received this as a gift and have since bought it for others. Is truly as it describes itself - a reference book that you can start reading at any page.
The only problem is that you find yourself reading too much at a time, and the definitions will stick as memorable, but the words don't. Often at work I have really wanted to call someone "an odor resulting from the belching of an intoxicated person" but the specific word escaped me. Read slowly and try to use a word a day to get the most out of this book.
The gems of this book are the words that sound so dirty but actually have very appropriate meanings. Example: Who wouldn't get upset when called a "pricklouse"? Me, because I know it just means "tailor".
This is a perfect gift for the word (or insult) enthusiast who has everything.
Funny and, at times.... useful!.......2003-03-03
Though I wished this book was a little more organized (beyond simple alphabetizing), I still found it most useful. Great vocabulary to have, especially when you want to let someone have a peice of your mind but don't actually want them to hear you... but you kind of do... but don't... you know the situation.. this book is the key to solving that paradox! So the next time that jobberknowle takes 11 items to the 10-items-or-less isle at the grocery store and starts to pay with a check, you'll find yourself speaking to him/her on terms they aren't familiar with!! Ever been around people who spoke a different language than you, and you knew they were saying something about you but you didn't know what? ...now it's time to level the playing field!! This book is written all in fun, and reads like a book even though it is in dictionary format. You'll definitely get a kick out of it. Some words in the book aren't fully detailed enough to understand, and others are downright useless, but overall this book is a fun read... I do think 10 bucks is a bit steep though... buy it used!
impulse shopping.......2002-10-04
I was standing at a bookstore's special orders desk, waiting and I picked up this little volume. I was stunned. My laughter flowed like water in Niagra. I've used several of the lovely words, with friends and associates. Last night at my poker game I gave a small educational lecture about the english language, and made sure to keep my drink next to me - so with my compatriots newfound knowledge, they would not find a moment to leint my beer. I recommend this book to anyone that find's language interesting and/or useful.
Quite amusing, really.......2002-08-30
Can't say that I expected to find this sort of stuff to be funny, but I'll admit I was wrong. Rarely have I laughed like this at a book.

Book Description
Some acting careers are made by one great role and some fall into obscurity when one is declined. Would Al Pacino be the star he is today if Robert Redford had accepted the role of Michael Corleone in The Godfather? Imagine Tom Hanks rejecting Uma Thurman, saying that she acted like someone in a high school play when she auditioned to play opposite him in The Bonfire of the Vanities. Picture Danny Thomas as The Godfather, or Marilyn Monroe as Cleopatra. This reference work lists hundreds of such stories: actors who didn't get cast or who turned down certain parts.
Each entry, organized alphabetically by film title, gives the character and actor cast, a list of other actors considered for that role, and the details of the casting decision. Information is drawn from extensive research and interviews. From About Last Night (which John Belushi turned down at his brother's urging) to Zulu (in which Michael Caine was not cast because he didn't look "Cockney" enough), this book lets you imagine how different your favorite films could have been.

A Day at the Movies.......2006-02-09
My son got me this book because I'm always bugging him during movies and saying things like "you know that was supposed to be..." (we just watched Amadeus, and Meg Tilly was supposed to be Mozart's wife in that, but hurt herself a day before filming began); So for me, it was a perfect gift.
A must for movie lovers, or people that never had a problem with the "entertainment" category on Trivial Pursuit.
I loved it, and still do.
One that'll never leave your library..........2006-02-09
This is one of those books (in the vein of a great movie guide, like the ones I love by Leonard Matlin and Pauline Kael) that I'm constantly picking up and just leafing through. No matter where I open it, there's always a find I'm interested in.
After reading the whole thing once, I wanted more. Painstaking research on the author's part makes for a great ride for the film buff. Some "might have beens" I'd heard of, such as Lee Remmick in Mary Tyler Moore's role in "Ordinary People", but many, many others I would have had no idea about.
Not only researched well, but also organized down to the last detail.
Enjoyable and Interesting Reference Guide.......2005-12-17
I have to applaud Mr. Martinez sentiments. I totally enjoyed this book, and found many interesting suprises. This forum should be reviews about the book, not about personal jabs at the author or her readers. I was amazed to see this insulting review posted. There is not one example of why this book is not credible, but yet he attacks the author. May I suggest that Mr. Dobkin re-evaluate himself as a Critic at Large because if you are a critic this was the most assine review I have ever read. Why so Bitchy? Did Ms. Mell do something to you in your past? Do you even know Ms.Mell? Or from the bitchiness of this review, does a "partner" of yours have a problem with her?
I can't even believe that I am responding to such nonesense, but when I saw it, and Mr. Martinez review I couldnt pass up the opportunity to give Mr. Martinez 2 thumbs up...Mr Dobkin 2 Thumbs Down, and Ms. Mell 4 Stars!!!
As for the book I echo Mr. Martinez and Mr. Liotta reviews. It is so fascinating to see what might have been. Would the Graduate have been a classic with Robert Redford? or Could anyone imagine anyone else as Marlon Brando in The Godfather? Some choices you say OK that would have been great, and others you say what were they thinking... It's the perfect book for Film buffs, and Movie Enthusiasts!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
AMAZING REFERENCE GUIDE - READ FOR HOURS!.......2005-12-15
Have you ever gone to a bookstore, picked up a reference or fun fact book and not been able to put it down? Ms. Mell's work is one of those books.
Chock full of information and exhaustively researched, you'll be amazed at who turned down certain roles or who auditioned for others. Imagine my surprise to discover that Peter Sellers was considered for the part of Leo Bloom in the original "The Producers". Every entry is carefully referenced!
As far as the previous reviewer (Gary J. Dobkin), I can't possibly understand what his personal attack on Ms. Mell is based on. He goes on, not only to criticize a book that he probably hasn't read, but continues his own "self-aggrandizing" review by insinuating that the other positive reviewers for this book aren't intelligent enough to know any better.
To that, I will only say the following: Mr. Dobkin's claim that Ms. Mell is "getting the facts wrong or simply not getting the facts" isn't backed up by any examples or contrary information. It seems Mr. Dobkin's "Critic At Large" title seems to be just that. An extensive Google Search of "Gary J. Dobkin" who proclaims to be "firmly entrenched" in entertainment journalism, yielded absolutely nothing.
Utterly vomitous pulp and even more self-aggrandizing.......2005-12-14
One can't quite be sure of which crime Ms. Mell emerges more guilty with her little tome; getting the facts wrong or simply not getting the facts. One wonders if perhaps she was one of those mindless children who simply spent her days languishing in the prison of fantasy, endlessly casting and re-casting films for her own silly preoccupation by dint of needing to escape some deep, dark secret. Either way, her book emerges as laughable at best and a travesty at worst, and serves to literally and liberally spew poison over cinematic history as we know it. Not only is it not worth the cost, one can only hope that some naive publisher will never, ever see fit to entertain so much as one proposal with regard to her so-called "work." With respect to my fellow reviewers on this page, I'm simply unsure that any of them is of sound enough mind to critique a sure-fire hit, much less this extremely meager excuse for investigative reportage. The literary world in general and the world of entertainment journalism in particular, in which this critic is firmly entrenched, will rest much easier when Ms. Mell has put her wretched example of a career very firmly upon the proverbial back burner.

Sisqo's Autobiography.......2001-08-06
Leah Furman's book took you into the life of the silver-haired crooner giving you insight on how he lives his life before, during and after the 'Thong Song'. She lets you know how hard-working he is and that it takes more than vocals to keep your career afloat. I personally enjoyed the layout of the book and the numerous pictures. This is a perfect book to purchase because makes a great collector's for die-hard Sisqo fanatics.

Colorful Visual Reference.......2007-08-23
I purchased several of Tom Tierney's historical paper doll sets to augment my family history projects. I have 150 years of family photos which are mostly in black and white, of course, so it's great to see the period clothing in detail and in color. The paper dolls will add so much to my research and my family's appreciation of the historical times and stories. Although I intend to keep the paper dolls uncut, they are printed on card stock which would be easy to cut and not tear apart if well-cared for.
Beautiful...simply beautiful.......2001-12-14
I found that these gowns and the people were beautiful. I could spend all day looking at this book...

Customer Reviews:
EXCELLENT LITTLE BOOK!!!.......2007-10-02
If you are looking for simple and direct answers on how to invest in the stock market, then this book is for you. I also would recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn the basics but does not have the technical background needed to go deeper in financial analysis. Great book!!!
Great Book for Market Begginers.......2007-08-28
I found this book a great starting point in my investment journey. There are lots of great basioc information, yet i found the book a joy to read.
Great Introduction to stock market investing!.......2007-08-28
An easy to read introduction to stock investing! I have not yet finish it (since I just got it recently) but what I have seen so far could get someone from having no real knowledge to having a kick start about stock market investing. The great thing about the book is that the end of the book is not really the end, as there is the website, which provides even more useful articles on investing and personal finance. For those who are really interested in investing could also subscribe to the news letter that the author has put out, which has a small subscription fee but it is really nothing compared to other sites that offer similar services.
This is MUST HAVE for private investors!!.......2007-08-20
This book is exceptional. It breaks the patterns you usually see in investing books, by being crystal clear, concise, to the point, honest- and very accurate. You will learn more from this book than any other I've read, and it will be truly useful information that will help you get a clear overall picture on the process of investing. Excellent for the newcomer, but equally so for the more experienced because it causes you to return your focus to the key factors that make a difference. This is a complete book, it covers all you will need to get you on your feet in the market (or back on them as the case may be...) and it's the first book I've ever seen to do so.
I'm a serious investor with about 10 years experience and part of a small association of aggressive investors. This book is one of the best investments I've made!
Outstanding stock market guide for investors at any level.......2007-08-01
I'm a 19 year old college student, and I really had a desire to know more about the stock market. So, I bought this book and The Stock Market for Dummies thinking they would both open the door for me, and then I'd buy other books to get more detailed information. The Dummies book was good, but too slow paced for me. This book, The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing, explained what Dummies did in about the first 50 pages. Jason Kelly, the author, uses great examples to help drive his points home and connect with the reader. He is an English major, and it seems like he specializes in talking in everyday English but still having incredible amount of detail. He also has a section where he discusses where all of the world's best investors agree on strategies, which I think is one of the best chapters in the book.
Kelly then goes on throughout the book discussing EVERYTHING from first hearing a stock ticker to purchasing it through a broker. Even though I have accumulated quite a collection of stock market books, none of them are as thorough on each step then Kelly. I like his technique too, which encourages long term investing with some medium term speculations. While reading the book it quickly becomes obvious that he is incredibly confident in his strategies, which makes the book more enjoyable to read and some of that confidence has come on to me. From finding places where to discover stocks, to Value Line pages, to various types of brokers, Kelly has everything covered.
At the end of the book, Kelly gives his email address and web site (go to his web site to find his new email address). So I figured I'd send him and email to ask a question. I've done this before with other authors, nothing new, so I've learned to not actually expect a response, and if it does happen it's much later and probably won't happen again. But in less than 12 hours, Kelly emailed me back with helpful advice in a cheerful mood. Talk about a complete book.
I still find myself coming back to this book, time and time again, to refresh my memory or to reread sections. If you are anything like me, you will be extremely excited about the stock market after reading this book.
