Don't look for the soup of the day in the format menu.......2002-12-19
Once again, Tennant has given us a book with no introduction, afterword, or anything except various strips of _The Fifth Wave_, the cartoon best known for its appearances in various For Dummies books. While some will be familiar to readers of the series, this book contains 126 strips, enough to provide fresh material to most readers.
Even when 'technical' topics are covered, the strips are aimed at a broad audience ('I *swear*, Larry, no one knew there was a compression chip in the virtual-reality helmet!') Topics range from Network Jones and the Lost File of Wendy to the duck hunter who bags a flying toaster, and from Real Programmers to how to tell if you're *not* a cyberholic. Buddy Diskk, Computer Comedian, appears 4 times, more than in later books (Tennant doesn't need to crack jokes to be funny). MousePad Land is going through hard times since the big trakball moved in outside town.
Some strips feature kids, although not as many or quite as clever as in _Downloaded_, the next book. On the other hand, _Version 2.0_ has more strips featuring dogs - the floating pointer benchmark suite is worth seeing. :) _Version 2.0_ even combines dogs with desktop publishing (Rags can now say it his way in a personal greeting card).
Technology humor similar to that of the "Far-Side".......1998-08-24
A great book for anyone who has ever had a problem with a computer, who knows a techno-person or is one yourself.
Book Description
Return of the Bunny Suicides follows over one hundred bunnies as they find ever more bizarre ways to end their fuzzy little existences. From swimming with nibbly fishes, to hiding under an elephant's footstool, to getting on the sharp end of a Venetian gondolano stone goes unturned (or undropped, or uncatapulted) in the twisted little creatures' next installment.
Illustrated in a spare and simple style, Return of the Bunny Suicides is a collection of hilarious and outrageous cartoons that will appeal to anyone in touch with their evil side.

I Finally Get It!.......2007-09-17
This is my second suicidal bunny book. I bought them both in Rome in a very sophisticated, upscale store where I had been cackling for longer than was appropriate in Rome. (When in Rome, don't cackle in public, the Romans don't.)
Before I send this one off to my kid in college, I gave it one last look. And I got it. There's this drawing of a bunch of people running away from the shore line at the sight of a shark fin, and one tiny bunny in a swimfloat, eagerly padding into the water.
So on one level, there's every mad politician going ahead with some policy that everyone on the beach knows is crazy. On another level, that's all of us doing some nutso thing in spite of the world running around us in the opposite direction away from the visible shark. It reminds me of the hilarious novelRecycling Jimmy with the same weird British take on things and the same subversive sub-text.
I'm looking at this book one more time wondering which shark I'm heading towards. What about you?

my cheeks hurt still!!.......2007-09-09
If you are in anyway feeling a bit blue, take a look at this book!
Fantastic.......2005-09-30
A friend had to close the book because he was laughing so hard he couldn't breathe. Intelligent humor (for the slighlty morbid)that's not over anyone's head. Great for a coffee table or with a few beers. Simply fantastic.
As wonderful and politically incorrect as the first book.......2005-08-20
I found the first book on a trip to London - nasty, nasty bunnies full of ingenious ways to commit suicide - not pathetically but with plenty of attitude - just like Grommit and Kliban. Printed humor has become so PC - it is refreshing to see something this original and funny
On the Road to Oblivion... one more time.......2005-04-13
I loved "Return of the Bunny Suicides". If you liked the first book, "The Book of Bunny Suicides," you will most likely enjoy the sequel. The bunnies find even more creative ways to end their lives. It is funny and amusing, if you don't mind seeing cartoon bunnies execute both simple and complex plans to end their lives. Although the reader does not know why the bunnies are so willing to die, (s)he can certainly appreciate the bunnies' formulated deaths. The drawings are relatively simple, not too gory (yes, some decapitated heads but nothing graphic), and allows the reader to anticipate what happens instead of always giving the end picture.
Obviously this book isn't for everyone. But if you think you can appreciate the humor in suicidal cartoon bunnies, it's certainly worth flipping through.
By the way, I love bunnies and am against animal cruelty, but have enough of a sense of humor to laugh at silly things such as this.

Sherman.......2001-12-19
Read it! Jim Toomey rules! Funniest shark in print...and the crab ain't bad either.
Fun for every hairless beach ape!.......2000-09-03
This is the first Sherman's Lagoon collection and is it a hoot! There are several good storylines in here, including the introduction of the sun-loving polar bear Thornton, Fillmore's trip to Ascension Island for mating season, the ongoing tumultuous relationship between Sherman and Megan, the crabiness of everyone's favorite crab Hawthorne and a visit from Sherman's brother Herman. One of the nice things about this collection is that you don't have to be a fan to enjoy this book. It is an excellent introduction to the often hilarious world that Jim Toomey has created and is a testament to his skill as a writer and artist. I love this book, it makes me laugh alot and I am proud to own it. I'm sure you would be too!
a loveable shark!.......2000-05-22
Do yourself a favor. Get this book.
Toomey has an incredible knack for turning things around so as you burst out laughing, you think, where does this guy get his ideas?
When you read this book, you are going to root for the shark. I have spent years snorkeling in the ocean, and never imagined I would be enamored of a loveable shark, but here he is, folks, Sherman and his better half, Megan.
Blood in the Water.......2000-05-20
While it is nice to see a book that is not all nice - where shark meets human beach ape. Where else would you read that a shark would not want to eat a person because she is a Redhead and he is allergic to redheads. Will buy the next book.
Garfield ... With fins........2000-05-03
I love sharks. I think they are one of the most beautiful creatures to inhabit the ocean. And when a friend told me about a cartoon about a fat, lazy shark and his wacky friends, I thought he was joking. He wasn't, but Jim Toomey was, and was it ever so funny. Sherman's Lagoon takes potshots at peoples perceptions of sharks, pop culture, and the battle of the sexes, interspliced with comments on the eviroment, and a keen sense of humor that surprised and delighted me. So check it out, as Sherman will grown on you and on occasion, that a bite out of your side.

Customer Reviews:
Sort of a sequel to How to Read Your Opponents Cards.......2007-03-15
Start with Mike Lawrences "How to Read Your Opponents Cards". Get comfortable with the concepts he presents. Then try this. The book presents a set of chapters each featuring a common combination, such as KJx.
The reader will need to place cards based on the defenders bidding (or lack of it), and whats been played (and wahts not been played).
The book really is about deduction and counting, not how to play a suit to maximize the number of tricks. Don't let that stop you from buying and reading it, its well worth the time and money.
How to play a combination based on the entire hand.......2006-12-24
This is *NOT* a book on how to play a single suit in isolation.
Its a book on how to play a bunch of common combinations, based on what you know about the entire hand.
Its filled with gathering clues and applying Logic to figure out whether to lead to the K or J in KJx in dummy.
For a book ONLY about suit combinations, try Klingers Card Play Made Easy.
I think the reviewer who only rated the book a 3 is way off the mark. Its a great book, and he is basing his lower rating on the fact that the book was on a somewhat different topic than he expected.
Thats like me saying Kit Woolseys "MatchPoints" isn't so good becaus eit covers things other than MP, like hand evaluation, etc.
This is a great book. Sout of like the sequel to "How to Read Your Opponents Cards"
Not what you might expect.......2005-09-27
The title of this book misleads. One gets the idea that this book will attempt to show players the best a priori plays of the dozens (hundreds?) of key card combinations in bridge. Instead, we receive an in-depth analysis of 7 specific situations. Admittedly, most of these combinations will arise frequently, and Lawrence analyzes them effectively and thoroughly in various contexts. However, I was hoping to see a method to analyze generic combinations at the table quickly, one that would have use in more than only a few specific situations.
Great analysis by Lawrence, a la "Play Bridge with Mike Lawrence", but not what I was looking for in a book with this title.
Humbling concept.......2004-01-17
On first reading Mike Lawrence's book on card combinations, I was disappointed. In fact, the book only deals with how to play seven particular suit combinations (one chapter on each). The obvious disappointment is that, even after having fully mastered the book, one will ostensibly only have mastered seven suit combinations!
Yet, on further consideration, any disappointment was mitigated by two realisations:
1) At least one will have mastered seven suit combinations; that is, be able to play them perfectly in any of a number of situations - no trumps contracts, suit contracts, contracts where entries to dummy are at issue etc.
2) One expects that the logical discussion employed to analyse these particular hands can be gradually applied to other suit combinations.
The title "humbling concept" applies here, as Mr. Lawrence's book makes it clear how difficult a task it is to become a master of bridge. Let us say there are 200 suit combinations which actually are of interest. Then one would need to read almost 30 books of this size (227 pages) to master the topic thoroughly.
In conclusion, I suspect that if it were possible to discuss all (or even most) suit combinations thoroughly in one book, Mr. Lawrence might have written such a book. Instead, one should respect his decision to concentrate on seven suit combinations, and we can perhaps hope for other books to follow.
Take more tricks.......2003-05-02
How to take more tricks as declarer or as defender by playing the odds. Helps you to spot problems that may arise later in the hand. Recommended for all levels.

Great Easy Read.......2007-06-02
I would recommend this book to students of every discipline, as well as non-students. This book has great examples for each lateral thinking concept. It's one of those feel-good books that can be motivating and empowering.
Edward de Bono writes about using different styles of thinking that can be used for any situation. He organizes philosophies about thinking that has been around for ages into visual concepts to be applied in daily scenarios.
Brief spoiler ahead..
White Hat- State the facts
Red Hat- State the emotions
Black Hat- State the negative aspects
Yellow Hat- State the positive aspects
Green Hat- Think creatively (outside the box)
Blue Hat- Think about thinking!
Yes the blue hat is tricky, so you should buy the book and get more details.
Six Thinking Hats review.......2007-06-02
De bono's six thinking hats covers the different mind-sets for the thinker. He explains the need for different types of thinking processes, each type of thinking symbolized by wearing a different hat. The book is filled with amusing ideas and interesting philosophy about thinking. It is a easy read. I believe that if the logic of this book is followed before making important decisions, one will never rush into a conclusion they are not prepared for. Some people in life are born with the ability to think....or they have had much practice.....others follow the program previously set in place or what they are told. Practice thinking and you can become a six hat thinker. Read this book a let a thinker...De Bono....teach you how powerfull your mind can become.
Great book! Just ask the author, he already knows........2007-06-02
Six Thinking Hats is not as good as Edward De Bono may believe. Now that is not saying that Six Thinking Hats is a bad book, it is just that Edward De Bono is extremely arrogant. He promotes his method constantly throughout the entire book. Once you get over his arrogance, the ideas of his method are actually pretty interesting. Having everyone in a meeting working together on a common purpose using the six thinking hats will greatly increase the productivity. The book is pretty easy to read and it is filled with tons of good examples. His arrogance is a little annoying, but just get over it because this book is totally worth reading.

I have been using this book when trainning managers. It is a very usefull help for people who needs to understand their own way of thinking in different circumstances, and, at the same time, helps them to undertand other people emotions and cognitive responses. Improved Parallel-Thinking Process for Evaluating Issues.......2004-09-25
Seldom can one find a legitimate improvement on existing thinking processes, but there certainly is one in Six Thinking Hats. De Bono reports that this process reduces time spent in meetings by 20 to 90 percent, based on experiences reported to him since the book was first published. It also seems that many people feel that the evaluations that emerge are more useful ones, as well.
De Bono himself makes this statement: "The Six Thinking Hats method may well be the most important change in human thinking for the past twenty-three hundred years." You'll have to decide for yourself, if the book lives up to that claim.
De Bono diagnoses the fundamental problem of decision-making as being muddled thinking. Groups are simply not well equipped to deal with a wide range of data and perspectives simultaneously. The meeting often bogs down into conflicts of personalities and over focus on inimportant points. By creating a simpler way to think about issues, de Bono claims to eliminate many of these problems.
The process is not one that I have used, but it makes sense to me as an improvement over less structured evaluation methods. It can be used by an individual or a group working together. The amount of structure you use can be high, or you can be more ad hoc.
People learn best when they are playing, and the six hat approach clearly encourages a spirit of play. By giving each person a role (and each person eventually playing all of the roles), the method reduces the amount of personality-based conflict, encourages more participation, and gives validation to many different ways to present the question at hand. This should make each person feel more affirmed and invested in the process. Also, since the route is focused on getting lots out on the table, it also suspends judgment longer so that more ideas can emerge. As such, it is closer to the Japanese method of making evaluations than the American one (as de Bono points out).
Here is the color scheme. Blue is the process coordinator (like the conductor of an orchestra) and starts and leads off the meeting (plus helps keep it on process) -- except sometimes it is better to have red finish just after blue summarizes at the end.
Red goes second, and represents emotions and feelings to present both positive and negative emotional reactions, as well as more subtle things like intuition.
It seems to be more free form from there. Let's go to yellow next, which is speculative and positive -- the optimistic side of the case. This view is to open up the possibilities.
Naturally, that has to be balanced by looking at the downside, which is black (cautious and careful). This hat is normally worn the most in evaluations, and can easily be overdone. The idea is not to be negative, but to search out the risks.
White plays an important, but neutral, role -- pointing out the facts that are known or are likely to be true. Care in characterizing what is known is important.
Green is the wild card -- finding alternatives. This color connects very well with de Bono's original claim to fame, as someone who has good ideas for stimulating individual creativity. By giving each person a role in being creative in a meeting, he extends that focus in a useful way
De Bono makes two interesting comments about how all this leads to decisions: "In the end, all decisions are really red hat." But we should assume that it is a more informed set of emotions and feelings than would exist otherwise. "Decisions seem to make themselves." Knowing how painful decisions are in many circumstances, if that were the only benefit, that would be enough to make this book essential.
My suggestion is that you give this process a trial run with something unimportant before unleashing it on a big issue. Otherwise, you might be stalled by lack of understanding about how the process works. Keep practicing until you are satisfied that it is working well.
Good luck with overcoming your stalled thinking about making decisions and the issues that face you and your organization!
Product Description
What caused ABB, a major power technologies company, to go from $0 profit in the country of Syria to a $60 million profit in just 2 years?
What was being taught in a training class for out-of-work people in the UK that helped to reduce the UK unemployment rate from 3 million to 1 million?
The answer is: the de Bono thinking methods.
Thinking methods are not the catalyst most people imagine as ushering in such drastic changes, but that may be because their own thinking methods arent creative enough to consider it. Although most people dont equate improved thinking skills with such extreme results in business, Dr. Edward de Bono always has. He has created a clearly defined set of tools that can be used to change the way people think. The de Bono thinking methods have proven themselves by producing dramatic outcomes.
This first ever compilation of printed success stories contains more than 20 case studies in which the de Bono tools have made significant, positive changes to businesses and individuals worldwide.
The book contains interesting and practical information about how specific techniques have helped companies produce fresh ideas. For instance, did you know that a well-known ice cream company used the Lateral Thinking technique, Random Entry, to help them solve a major delivery problem? Did you know that J. Walter Thompson used the Six Thinking Hats to help them design a three-day marketing event to launch the Ford Focus?
The book also reveals that the benefits of the de Bono tools are not limited to big companies. Six Thinking Hats has been used in South African mines, jury deliberations, and faculty meetings at universities. The de Bono methods continue to move forward into uncharted territory, encouraging fresh thinking in many diverse aspects of society.
This book of powerful success stories proves that the de Bono methods really do make all the difference!
