Book Description
"It's not against any religion to want to dispose of a pigeon." (Tom Lehrer, from "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park") "They're rats with wings." (Woody Allen, from Stardust Memories); No one is certain when pigeon-loathing began, but the anti-pigeon phenomenon has by now insinuated itself into every medium of popular culture. Whether in film, television, music, or advertising, pigeon eradication has become an accepted way to tug at a person's funny bone. With Canceled Flight: 101 Tried and True Pigeon Killin' Methods, A.V. Jones has created an Anarchist Cookbook of comic relief for the worldwide pigeon-hating population. Conjured from Jones' twisted brain, 101 surefire methods for speeding a pigeon's journey to the grave are laid out for even the novice pigeon-despiser with lists of required materials and step-by-step guidelines. Every method has been brilliantly illustrated with the help of more than eighty-five of today's hottest street-inspired painters, illustrators, designers, and photographers. Whether visualized in the pre- or post-death stages or at termination, each piece faithfully represents Jones' methodology with incredible energy and originalityin "The Butcher," a Dalek Space Monkey picks up a cleaver to "chop, chop, chop till he can't chop no more," and Cody Hudson's "The Permanent Press" illustrates how two scorching hot irons can make a toasty pigeon sandwich in no time flat. An exhaustive compilation of execution, Canceled Flight is sure to provide the pigeon-killing technique perfect for you.

Funny!.......2006-08-06
I saw this book in a book store in Chicago, but it was too expensive. Yay Amazon for being reasonable. I love all animals and am completely against any and all cruelty, BUT this is hilarious! It is just art! Thats one thing people have to remember. Dont take it as a literal "How to" book! Its simply funny! Its a very entertaining coffee table book!
Clipped Wings.......2006-01-06
I'll start this by saying that I loved Riley's Bunny Suicides. Jones' Canceled Flight on the other hand comes across as wanting. The humour is forced and the art, while well done, doesn't seem to complement the ideas. Hopefully someone out there can come up with better pigeonicide work. I'm giving two stars because there were some good moments in the books like method #12.
halarious.......2005-09-09
this book is the funniest thing iv seen in a log time, i seriously could not put it down. The art is incredible, and both the artisits and author show an incredible imagination.
Now for the people who say it is horrible, you are tree hugging hippies with no sence of humor. Come on its supposed to be funny and if you dont get it then dont review it, i bet you havn't even read the book. Have fun with your boring lives, ill be out killin me some pigeons :-D
Don't Take Everything So Seriously! It's Art!.......2005-06-14
This is a bizarre, fun, crazy, mind-bending collection of artwork. If you love animals: don't worry! I do too! I'm a vegetarian, I love birds, I would never wish harm upon any living creature. But this book is not to be taken literally! Aesthetically interesting, never dull, and always a great conversation piece. If you find the theme unsettling, you haven't done your research. This is NOT a book instructing or condoning the killing of ANYTHING...in fact, a large number of the "killing methods" provided would be impossible, expensive, or illigal to carry out.
If you possess a slightly macabre sense of humor, or simply delight in oddball 'what-if' topics, this is the book for you. It has given me hours of entertainment and I believe that I have a greater respect for pigeons having explored this book.
senior vector control officer, tulop co. gives five stars!.......2005-05-21
The scholarship evident in this masterful survey bespeaks a thorough understanding of pigeon pathology. I somewhat regret the levity with which the author treats our persistant struggle against this constantly evolving public menace, but on the whole, myriad fail-proof approaches were thoughtfully presented. For the do-it-yourselfer, this well illustrated reference provides a clear methodology for various eradication procedures that will benefit humankind. Only by sticking together and pooling our resources can we foster the dream of a pigeon-free environment, if not for ourselves, than for our progeny.

Book Description
Jargon-spewing corporate zombies. The sociopath who checks voice mail on his speaker phone. The fascist information systems guy. The sadistic human resources director. The technophobic vice president. The power-mad executive assistant. The pursed-lip sycophant. The big stubborn dumb guy. They're Dilbert's coworkers, and chances are they're yours, too. If you know them, work with them, or dialogue with them about leveraging synergies to maximize shareholder value, then you'll recognize this comic strip as a day at the office, only funnier. Since 1989 Dilbert has lampooned not only the people but also the accepted conventions and practices of the business world. Office politics, management trends, business travel, personnel policies, corporate bureaucracy, irrational strategies, unfathomable accounting practices, unproductive meetings, dysfunctional organizations, oppressive work spaces, silly protocols, and inscrutable jargon are all targets of Adams's darkly goofy satirical pen. Dilbert strikes a deeply resonant chord with fans because it casts such a dead-on reflection of the realities of the white-collar workplace, even with its off-the-wall delivery. Today, Dilbert runs in 2,000 newspapers in 19 languages, reaching 150 million readers in 65 countries. The 24th Dilbert collection, Author's Cut, features Adams's personal all-time favorite selections, along with his own handwritten commentary about the strips.
Customer Reviews:
A Fantastic Book of Comedy.......2007-04-02
I received my Dilbert Treasury and it is even better than I imagined. Not only is it full of some of Scott Adams' best Dilbert cartoons, it also has his own personal comments after each one! Some of his comments are even funnier than the cartoon above it! :-)
I keep mine on my coffee table and people just love to browse through it. It was on sale and I feel an excellent value for the price!
Love it!!!
Good book, but not as insightful as I would have hoped..........2007-03-12
The comics are a good collection of Scott Adams' work over the years. While he has has added some interesting commentary, "as if [he] were looking over [your] shoulder", it seems like it could be more insightful. Some of the comments such as, "Monkey-related punchlines always work," seem a bit lacking, while, comments such as "all success depends on faulty comparisons," reveal some thematic insight into the author's vision of the strip. As a long-time fan of Adams' work, I recommend this, as it is a solid collection, and captures a bit of Adams "behind the scenes" thinking behind his strips.
Journeying Dilbert's world with Scott Adams.......2007-02-03
This book is amazing. I would probably say that of most of Dilbert books, but what I truly appreciate about this strip treasury is the careful selection made by the Author and also the handwritten commments below every stip. Thanks to these add-on you can get much more of the behind the scenes on how the humour of the characters is conceived and on how to draw and compose comics. For me this is an interesting added value while maybe someone just prefer to enjoy the comic stand-alone. I would reccomend buying it mainly if you are already a Dilbert fan although it can be a very insightful introduction to newcomers of Dilbert's world
Laugh out loud Funny.......2006-05-31
This book had me LAUGHING OUT LOUD on the airplane - I am sure everyone was jealous that i was having such a great time with JUST me & my book -- it is VERY funny. Only read this book in public if you won't mind people looking at you because you are laughing so hard!
It is funny, even though he explains it.......2006-02-21
I bought this book anticipating nothing more than a rehash of "Seven Years of Highly Defective People". Instead, however, Adams starts right where "Seven Years" left off, in terms of the comic timeline. The book is very much like "Seven Years" in that Adams provides funny handwritten comments under almost every comic, but unlike "Seven Years", the book is organized chronologically, and not by character. That said, the book is very funny and very enjoyable to those people (like me) who like a bit of a "behind-the-scenes tour" now and then.

Jackie Mason brings all the vivacity, spunk, and chutzpah of Yiddish to the tongues of the less fortunate. Don't be a meshugenner, buy it already!
Customer Reviews:
Jackie Mason helps you learn to talk Jewish the Yiddish way.......2007-02-06
I wanted to learn some common Yiddish sayings. So I bought Jackie Masons' book titled: "How to Talk Jewish". It is an enjoyable book complete with Yiddish sayings and a taste of Jewish life as only Jackie Mason can tell it.
How to Talk Jewish.......2006-03-03
Not as good as I had hoped. He explains a lot of Yiddish phrases that are not commonly used. The commonly used expressions were not defined as well as I could have defined them myself.
Can we talk????.......2003-04-09
Quintessential Jackie! Hilarious! A must-have in a Jewish humor library. May I also recommend a nifty, gezunta book I received as a gift and fell in love with? "A Little joy, A Little Oy" -- if Jackie's a main course Joy, Oy is one amazing antipasto.
Lillian & Joe Moses
OY A KLUG!.......2002-02-06
Only a meshuggener would not find this book entertaining and informative. Then again, probably only meshuggeners would want to READ shtick like this. Too bad Jackie didn't record this for the blind and the goyim; LISTENING to his spiel would just make this so much more of a mecheieha. If only that gantseh macher Webster had had Jackie as his editor -- oy!
Lexicography that is witty and wise.......2001-02-04
This is a smart little book of 93 Yiddish words and expressions that are defined, illuminated, and used-in-a-sentence by comic and philosopher Mason. In his Introduction, a thoughtful essay on Yiddish, he asserts that although he born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 1934, he grew up in a one hundred percent Yiddish-speaking world ("I didn't know that anybody in this country spoke English until I was old enough to go to the movies.") His family moved back to New York before he was five.
This little book contains a wealth of Masonisms. Jackie Mason used to have run-ins with censors and others. He reserves the right to be both self-deprecating and insulting. Jews, gentiles, politics, marriage, family, ethnicity, money, power, and God himself - all are up for grabs. There are a lot of funny stories. In addition, he has an understanding of the Yiddish language that he is happy to share. (Harry Truman was haimish - accessible, natural - FDR was not. Colorful explanation is provided.) He offers a theory of chicken soup that links it -successfully - to most of the world's cuisines. He is never dull. Mason: "It seems that in English that you have to prove that you're not emotional in order to have class." He posits his sociolinguistic theory (which you've heard if you've seen or heard his stage show) that the more emotional the speech - content and structure - the more "low class" the speaker. He defends emotionality. He loves Yiddish, and in fact the language (black English, specifically) of any people engaged in a battle of wits to survive.
A funny and endearing book.
Book Description
This book is a practical and inspirational companion to the conversion process for Jews-by-choice and their families. It is practical in its explanation of the process and the pitfalls; inspirational in the stories it tells and the wisdom it shares.
Written primarily for the person considering the choice of Judaism, it provides highly personal insights from over 50 people who have made this life-changing decision. But it will also speak to their families--the non-Jewish family that provided the convert's spiritual beginnings and the Jewish "family" which receives him or her--and help them understand why the decision was made.
To those in the Jewish community who work with these "embracers of the covenant" as they explore new paths, and to other Jews by birth who want to welcome them, it will provide valuable guidance.
Customer Reviews:
Few Protestant to Jewish Conversions.......2002-10-31
This is a good book for anyone considering converting to Judaism and wanting to read about the experiences of others. There are many case studies of those who have converted to Judaism, their reasons for doing so, the reaction of their family and friends, and their feelings about the whole experience. The examples are overwhelmingly positive, but there are a few who report difficulties "feeling Jewish" afterwards or feeling that they are totally accepted by their new Jewish community.
The examples are mostly from those who either converted from Catholicism or had no real religious upbringing. I was disappointed that see few Protestant-to-Jewish conversion examples; the ones that were given, were mostly from those who had very limited Protestant upbringing as children, not really practicing Protestants who decided to convert to Judaism.
The other disappointment I found with this book was due to all of the white space. This book is definitely not as long as it appears, and it will be a very fast read.
Overall, I found this a helpful and interesting book that I only wished were a bit longer and had a few more examples.
Fabulous!.......2002-09-10
The stories in this book are sometimes hauntingly beautiful. One woman expressed my thoughts so well that I read her story aloud at my bat mitzvah. This is truly a book for making connections.
Gave me confidence in what I want!.......1998-05-03
I had this book posted to England where I was spending my year abroad. Part of the reason why I was looking forward to that time in England was the opportunity to find out whether Judaism was what I wanted in my life. This book helped immensely and gave me many thoughts to pursue in conversation with friends and my rabbi. I can only recommend it to people who contemplate conversion.
Wow! It spoke my language........1997-12-21
This book will sit prominently in my living room. I want everyone i know to read this book.

Explaining the effects of trauma on communication, this book offers an understanding of the language of silence that often becomes the first step to healing. This book also touches on different types of trauma, such as the loss of a family member and survivors of child abuse.

Book Description
Who can forget Dorothy's quest for the great and powerful Oz as she tried to return to her beloved Kansas? She thought she needed a wizard's magic, only to discover that home -- and the power to get there -- had been with her all along. This engaging and provocative book proposes that Hollywood has created an imaginary cinematic geography filled with people and places we recognize and to which we are irresistibly drawn. Each viewing of a film stirs, in a very real and charismatic way, feelings of home, and the comfort of returning to films like familiar haunts is at the core of our nostalgic desire. Leading us on a journey through American film, Elisabeth Bronfen examines the different ways home is constructed in the development of cinematic narrative. Each chapter includes a close reading of such classic films as Fleming's The Wizard of Oz, Sirk's Imitation of Life, Burton's Batman Returns, Hitchcock's Rebecca, Ford's The Searchers, and Sayles's Lone Star.

Book Description
Packed with memorabilia, many rare photos, a definitive discography and utilizing unprecedented access to band members and associates, Gary Carter and Mark Chatterton have charted the long and often turbulent career of one of England's premier rock outfits.
Book Description
In this book Grandmaster and opening expert John Emms produces a comprehensive but workable black repertoire against all of White's possible options in the Najdorf.
The Najdorf is one of the most sharp, dynamic, and popular openings that Black can play and is a firm favorite amongst the world's elite players, including world number one Garry Kasparov.
Customer Reviews:
Great Work!.......2007-09-24
I am a diehard Alekhine Defence player. I play it through habit... until i found this book. John Emms took me away from my beloved 1...Nf6 and plunged me into 1...c5. His analysis in this book really pushed me to expierience the schev/naj. And I did. Though, at the time i still consider the Alekhine my #1 defence, I have to say it was because of this book that i broke a ten year cycle of 1...Nf6. And i wasn't disappointed.
The Best So Far in Understanding the Scheveningen.......2004-10-29
Grandmaster Emms does a commendable job in providing an ample slice of contemporary examples of master play to explain the primary strategic ideas for players of both the white and black pieces. The Scheveningen variation of the Sicilian Defense is arguably the most durable and least subject to fashion and fad of all of the semi-open variations. Emms is a seasoned grandmaster with an analgous mastery of the written word. For players attempting to decide how to play the Najdorf Sicilian, Emms' case is both sound and strong for adopting the a6, d6, and e6 pawn structure of the Scheveningen variation. As with any opening book, the student must build upon the lessons in this work by collecting and studying further high level game scores. This book is a fine template for that further study.
Book Description
In this completely revised and updated edition of the customer service classic (more than 600,000 copies sold), Carl Sewell enhances his time-tested advice with fresh ideas and new examples and explains how the groundbreaking “Ten Commandments of Customer Service” apply to today’s world.
Drawing on his incredible success in transforming his Dallas Cadillac dealership into the second largest in America, Carl Sewell revealed the secret of getting customers to return again and again in the original Customers for Life. A lively, down-to-earth narrative, it set the standard for customer service excellence and became a perennial bestseller. Building on that solid foundation, this expanded edition features five completely new chapters, as well as significant additions to the original material, based on the lessons Sewell has learned over the last ten years.
Sewell focuses on the expectations and demands of contemporary consumers and employees, showing that businesses can remain committed to quality service in the fast-paced new millennium by sticking to his time-proven approach: Figure out what customers want and make sure they get it. His “Ten Commandants” provide the essential guidelines, including:
• Underpromise, overdeliver: Never disappoint your customers by charging them more than they planned. Always beat your
estimate or throw in an extra service free of charge
• No complaints? Something’s wrong: If you never ask your customers what else they want, how are you going to give it to them?
• Measure everything: Telling your employees to do their best won’t work if you don’t know how they can improve
• Borrow, borrow, borrow: Sewell, for example, learned about hospitality from Japanese culture, cleanliness from Disney, and
politeness from his mother.
Customer Reviews:
Classic Sales primer.......2007-07-28
Carl Sewell's model for Sales and repeat business in the automobile business was thrust into the spotlight by some generous praise from uber-guru Tom Peters. This is his book on how he did it. Of course so much of it is beyond obvious ("Listen to your customers" - who doesn't know that's important in Sales?) but then again, he has to be doing something right.
Key themes include:
- The important of understanding you customers.
- Service through systems.
- How do deal with people.
- Measurement.
- Creating customer experiences.
- Learning (Borrowing).
Perhaps Sewell's greatest contribution to broader Marketing management is the concept of the lifetime value of the customer. Is a customer worth the Caddy they buy, or every one they buy during their life? That's what costs need to be measured against.
The book does earn it's spot in any Management library.
Great!.......2007-02-09
This book gives valuable insight into what a customer really wants and thinks. I would recommend this book to anyone who works with customers, employees and employers alike! Often we forget who really pays your paychecks. (Hint: It's not your boss!)
Easy Read.......2007-01-09
If you have ever managed any type of business, you will know that many of the things Carl Sewell says in this book is very true. If you haven't managed a business, you will definitely learn something to apply in the future. Sewell writes as he would talk, so the book is easy to read and understand. The strategies he applies to many of the fundamentals of his book may only work for a specific group of customers, but then again, he tells you to target those customers at the same time. Good book, and I would suggest it to anyone who wants to learn about customer service and managing a business.
Great Practical Application of Service .......2007-01-09
This book cuts through all the theory and gives a real life view of someone who is passionately dedicated to service and shows how service drives superior business. All the business theories come to life through real life examples from Carl Sewell's business experience. It is a down to earth book of how to see the true value of service to a business and how to think like a customer to deliver world-class service.
Since he is the boss over his firm, there are a few things that need to be modified or adapted to fit in the corporate world to be practical.
Overall, a good read. It will energize you in thinking about service as a strong business tool.
Classic Book.......2006-09-03
This book does a great job of giving useful and easy to implement information to anyone who wants to increase customer satisfaction and referrals. The author writes from his personal experience in the automotive industry.
It is easy to read and even gives a checklist at the end of each chapter with the points or lessons of the chapter. Although some of the examples seem obvious, I find they are almost never followed. I think anybody could gain financially from reading and following the ideas given in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about increasing client loyalty and referral business.
