Wrong book in "Look Inside".......2002-04-18
I'm sure the book "Monet: the ultimate impressionist" is quite good, but when you click on "look inside" it takes you to look inside a "Homeric Questions" book and not the one about Monet.
Excellent introduction and overview of Monet's life and work.......1998-12-05
When ordering I thought that this was a large format book, and was a bit disappointed when I got it and saw that it is pocket-size format. But it turned out to be such a pleasure to read, that I recently ordered a similar book on Van Gogh.

Light-hearted and Funny.......2006-05-17
Although often mistakenly connected with Yaoi or Shonen-ai by Amazon, the manga is actually funny short stories about daily life at Cafe Kichijouji based upon a hit drama CD in Japan. The five cute guys who work there all have different personalities, from the girl-crazy "romeo" floor waiter Maki Okubo to the spooky chef Minagawa who carries around voodoo straw dolls with him.
Highlights include the story when Minagawa takes two days off and asks the others to do the cooking and when the poor college student part timer Shuta Tokumi visits the other worker's apartments in search of free items.
Wacky, light-hearted and fun, this Manga is designed to make you laugh - which is suceeds alot! Great script and very attractive artwork. As the book is published by Digital Manga is comes in a slighly larger size than normal with an attractive glossy dust cover and cute removeable board game. Very refreshing!
funny + cute = CKD.......2006-04-08
CKD is a pretty amusing manga. There's lots of crazy stuff going on; and anyone with a well-rounded sense of humor will enjoy it. ^_^
All the characters in there are loveable, and if you think this a yaoi book, well, uh, it's not. It's just about a bunch of crazy dudes causing chaos almost everywhere they go. Some of their "adventures" in this book include a giant catfish, screaming scones, weird voodoo, a giant boulder, and of course, 5 awesome (and good-looking) guys (and more!). ;D
(oh, and there's nothing perverted in there... just nice innocent fun!)
There's also 5 "tiny cafe" stories throught the book, which are very adorable! ^__^
Anyone who likes comedy manga should add this to their manga collection.

Cafe Kichijouji de vol.1.......2006-03-15
CKD is a good manga to have in between mangas. I like to think of it as a great comic strip rather than a manga :P there's alot of lovable characters (who are quite attractive to boot) and a pretty funny situation going on.
I will definitely be buying the next as soon as I get some extra money :P

This book is hysterical! Real life is better than fiction, and in this case, a lot funnier! A compilation of funny stories and anecdotes from people across the country, dotted with a few true adventures from Liz's life. Help! is sure to tickle your funny bone, and reading it is a great way to spend an afternoon.

This is a great collection for the literate Sorkin fan. It makes connections among all his works, including his films. (I didn't even realize that he wrote the screenplay for the film Malice.) It debates issues. And it raises interesting and thoughtful questions.

I was disappointed in this book. I am familiar with Aaron Sorkin's plays, movies and television series and find him to be a brilliant and insightful writer. I was hoping to learn more about his process, technique and where in this "whiz kid" his idea pool resides. Instead I found this collection of esssays to be tedious and overly-analytical in their review of minutiae in an attempt to find hidden meaning in words and phrases. Aaron Sorkin's works are perceptive and realistic in pace and tone and substance, but the contributors to this book have found very little positive and a great deal of perceived subtext to examine. I would not recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Aaron Sorkin's work.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked reading different perspectives on Sorkin's writing. I liked the fact that the essays about Sorkin, who is such a smart, interesting writier, were also smart and interesting. Sorkin's work deserves this.
The book made me think about his writing in new ways.

Being a fan of The West Wing, The American President, Sports Night and A Few Good Men, I assumed this book would have more "Sorkin" in it. Primarily it's a collection of folks over analyzing his work and contradicting each other at every turn. These are primarily people in love with the sound of their own reasoning. I give it a C-
Not What I Thought It Was Gonna Be.......2005-08-21
I was expecting this book to be about the process Sorkin uses to write the masterful scripts that he does. I thought it would be about HOW he writes his scripts, not analyzing the scripts from an academic point of view. So, for those out there expecting the same: BE WARNED. The book is a collection of ACADEMIC, esoteric writings that analyze Sorkin's work.
I ended up returning the book.

I bought this book a while back, and kept it for almost a year before I read it. I wanted to give the book my highest level of attention. Well, it was worth the wait. Shostakovich Reconsidered has a wealth of information for any serious (and not-so-serious) Shostakovich scholar. My only criticism of the book is that Ian MacDonald's (The New Shostakovich) name should be more associated with this book than it is. He has written a sizeable array of articles in this book, and each one has proven to be as interesting as The New Shostakovich. I found the "courtroom" approach to supporting or refuting the memoirs of Shostakovich (Testimony) a little tedious after awhile, but I enjoyed the information nevertheless. I also found that Laurel Fay's book (Shostakovich: A Life) suffers from "selective scholarship" in the eyes of the authors. This should be interesting, as I dive into that book next. . .

Silence follows!.......1999-10-21
A thoroughly researched and well written investigation of the composer-as-dissident. For contemporaries and friends of Shostakovich as well as careful listeners, the composer's dissidence is plainly evident in his music.
One wonders what the counter-revisionist musicologists will make of Shostakovich Reconsidered. Under the weight of Ho's and Feofanov's evidence there is little choice but to remain silent or to torpidly dismiss the book.
According to Terry Teachout in the October, 1999 issue of Commentary, that is precisely what Professor Fay has done in her upcoming biography of Shostakovich.
Certainly (one hopes) not the last word on Shostakovich, but a must buy for all lovers of the great composer.
Essential reading for anyone who cares for Shostakovich!.......1999-03-28
Shostakovich Reconsidered is a timely publication that puts into perspective all the issues revolving around the defamation of the composer's memoirs (Testimony, edited by Solomon Volkov).
Whichever side of the fence one is on, the book comprehensively gathers all the witnesses and testimonies so that one can understand the entire issue surrounding the controversy. At the same time, the second half of the book presents various interesting essays on the composer and his music and other fascinating materials such as the symposium by Maxim SHostakovich.
On the whole, it is very illuminating. On the subject of Testimony, it could very well be the last word on the subject.

Great coverage of a very sound & underated opening.......2006-02-24
The book first off is well done. It stresses ideas above rote theory which makes it ideal for folks new to this opening. When one wants to avoid the huge amounts of study required to face the boring Petrof or the endless amounts of theory in the Ruy then this is the opening for you. This is also a great opening to learn since it provides a player with a healthy variety of the open games because of it's transpositional nature. Great opening for masters down to newbies.

I learned statistics back in the university then never applied concepts and after some 10 years I was challenged to undertake basic statistics matters in the way of learning Six Sigma. This book is very focused on the variation and the graphical interpretation of data. Yuo may read this book over a weekend then attack Six Sima stats without pain.
Interpreting data is about the patterns, not the points.......2007-03-07
This is not a book for people looking for the technical detail of data analysis or statistical process control. The pearl in this book is the message that interpreting your data (such as KPIs or performance measures) is about looking at patterns, not at individual points. It's a book that can be read by people not interested in the technical stuff (such as managers or executives) - and it *should* be read by these people. We have to move beyond the days of comparing this month to last month to judge business performance, and this book is a great step in the right direction!
The best concept book for non-technical people.......2007-03-07
I would agree that the details in the book are very, very basic. But that is what makes this so great in my opinion. Most organizations are focused on very small changes in numbers - something moved by a tenth of a percent, the punishments or celebrations must begin immediately - that are, in fact, not driven by anything anyone "did". I have worked with people who were very focused on the "moment". This book is excellent at communicating why that may not be the best way to manage a business. This is written for a business person, not someone who loves statistics, and for that audience the message comes across very, very well.

Very superficial.......2006-12-12
Wheeler has only one premise: plot everything on an XmR chart and watch for outliers or trends. The entire book has very little other technical suggestions for data analysis. Wheeler's mathematical detail is extremely weak. For example, he doesn't show where any of the multiplicative factors come from nor does he give references. The same depth of knowledge can be gained in 10 minutes with a Google search.
