Book Description

Susan Seddon Boulet uses subtle colors and a unique fusion of forms to reflect the magical and spiritual powers of shamans. In native cultures around the world, shamans are healers who traverse the boundaries between the everyday world and the spirit realm.

Boulet's paintings delicately interweave images of woman, man, and beast with elements of myth and mysticism, evoking a visceral understanding of shamanism. This collection of over seventy-five images is accompanied by quotes from shamans from various cultures.

5 out of 5 stars Captures the essence of Shaman.......2007-01-11

I'm a big fan of Susuan Boulet and was very pleased to see her calendar
avilable this year, her work just embodies the Indian spirit and beliefs and I'll be glad to have her work on my wall for the year.

5 out of 5 stars a beautiful meaningful calendar.......2006-01-29

This is the 6 year I've had a calendar containing the artwork by Susan Seddon Boulet. Although the artist is deceased, her artwork speaks of another world, ancient archtypes, legends and myths. There is always something new in each page of the calendar. Pictures within pictures. Along with each month is a small poem or quote which is appropriate to the picture and very meaningful. If you enjoy shamanism, native american legends, classical mythology, this is a product you should buy.

5 out of 5 stars Shaman: The Paintings.......2000-05-19

We always did want to see the spirit of a tree. Susan Seddon Boulet did & brings us every detail, enchanting our eyes & entrancing our minds. This artist has a host of calendars & greeting cards to touch the heart, uncurl our modern neutered spirits & fill our eyes with affection, calm & starlight. Lovely & profound.

5 out of 5 stars Shaman's: Soul Journey.......2000-04-17

There is very little I don't own of Susan Seddon Boulet's work in calendar, card or book form. Shaman is an exemplary achievement and work of love done by a woman of profound talent.

I met Susan at a workshop in Rhinebeck, N.Y and was instantly struck by her inner glow. The radiance of a woman who is grounded and knows the path of a Shaman. How better to portray her inner beliefs than through her art work?

The Shaman's Paintings are a testament not only to a spiritual path but also to one of our finest American women artists.

The path of a Shaman is best expressed by someone like Susan Seddon Boulet as she weaves ancient myth and folklore into beautiful tales on canvas.

A must have.

        4 out of 5 stars Garfield - On & On.......2007-08-13

As always, it was pretty funny! The only thing I thought was a problem (A too common problem) was that the strips started to fade into each other, and into the strips from earlier books. All of em funny, all of em following the old formula. I guess when you've written thirty books you run a little low on ideas, so I can't really blame Jim Davis. Entertaining comic strips with everybody's favorite fat cat.

4 out of 5 stars Great Reading .......2006-11-03

It is good, but i expected more of it after reading the tenth fat cat 3-pack

5 out of 5 stars The only TRULY good comic strip still being printed.......2001-08-21

With "The Great One" Charles Schultz's passing (RIP Mr. Schultz and thank you!), this leaves Garfield as the only current comic strip that remains consistantly funny. This review is a pretty universal review for all of the books. If you're a Garfield fan and you don't have them: Get them!!!

5 out of 5 stars Yet another grest Garfield masterpiece!.......2000-07-27

This fat cat 3-pack (like the others) is not only entertaining to read (like the others), but it is also a great reference book of Garfield comics (like the others), because from the point the book starts to the point it ends it has every daily comic in the order they were in the newspaper without skipping any days.

5 out of 5 stars Funny! A great book in all Circumstances!.......2000-04-06

Great book! It was a great buy and if you're thinking of buying it, don't hesitate! Garfield makes me laugh a lot from his attidude and his interest in all the things that people love to do.

A warning to readers: though Ben Stiller (Flirting with Disaster) and Janeane Garofalo (The Truth About Cats and Dogs) used to be a couple, do not confuse their advice book with Chicken Soup for the Couple's Soul. This is more of a cross between James Thurber and E.B. White's satirical Is Sex Necessary? and MTV's Beavis and Butt-Head: Chicken Soup for the Butt.

The ex-couple give us alternating chapters of remarkably rambling, extravagantly ironic, showbiz-insider's philosophical musings, but they do discuss their actual relationship, just to let you know where they stand--right on your funny bone, exerting maximum pressure until you beg for mercy. After their breakup, writes Garofalo, "We agreed that in the future we would only meet for professional purposes, or if we were drunk and felt like having emotionally destructive sex."

This faux tome (also read by the authors on audiocassette) is a meeting of the minds for professional purposes. But again, don't be fooled by what these wily authors say! The intriguing chapters referred to in the opening pages--"Why Can't I Sleep Around and Still Love You?"; "How to Fake an Orgasm to Show Your Love, or The Art of the Squeal"; "Negotiating with God for What You Want--and Getting It!"; "Pros and (Very Few) Cons of a Third Party in the Bedroom"--these chapters do not in fact exist! What does exist is a dog's breakfast of jokes from a pair of clowns. Read it and weep, but heed it at your peril. --Tim Appelo

        Book Description

"We are professionals. Though not specifically professionals in the field of 'psychology' or 'psychiatry,' we are both highly paid actors and comedians, and as such know more about neuroses than you could possibly imagine. . . ."

If you're tired of following the rules, dating people from Mars and Venus, gorging on chicken soup for your soul, or getting lost on a road less traveled, then it's time you listened to Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofalo, two people who actually sweat the small stuff . . . because, let's face it, if your body doesn't sweat, it dies--much like Ben and Janeane's train wreck of a relationship many years ago. From that experience came wisdom and self-reproachment. Now, in Feel This Book, they tackle the tough questions:

        - Is love necessary?
        - How can I make money off my spouse?
        - Compassion--is it overrated?
        - Why can't I sleep around and still love you?
        - How many times have you told your significant other that you would pick up something for dinner on your way home from the office, and next thing you knew you're at an all-night eatery with some hermaphrodite you found on the strip, having eggs and bacon at three in the morning?

Through helpful tips, completely fabricated case studies, the six laws of spiritual success, the fourteen by-laws of spiritual awakening, and the twenty-three addendums and sub-laws regarding anything spiritual and successful, Stiller and Garofalo teach such valuable lessons as:

        - When it comes to family, grasp onto the blame and don't let go
        - Make the connection . . . between Deepak and Tupac
        - Your mother lied; looks are everything, and the sooner you submit and stop denying the inevitable, the happier you will be
        - And much more!

Feel This Book. Let it be your path, your compass, your sensible shoes, your Frappuccino®. It's what self-help was meant to be.

1 out of 5 stars A badly written, lazy piece of writing....inexcusable in my opinion..........2007-07-07

I paged through this thing while hanging out at a Borders, and it was pretty awful. It seemed like it was written in a day or two, and as some have said, it was probably done just to make some extra cash. Janeane had said in an interview that she didn't really want to do it (there has been tension between her and Stiller for years, recently saying in another interview he tried to get her fired off of Reality Bites), and that her and Ben didn't actually write it together. They wrote their pieces seperately, and sent it to the editors, who tried to make sense out of it. It is a haphazard, lazy outing, and you're better off not reading this tripe at all. Considering Janeane is very articulate and well read, I thought she would be a good writer. She probably is, but working with Stiller probably dumbed her writing down. Stiller may be good at playing neurotic, nerdy characters that make fools of themselves, but he's a rather smug person (a typical Gen X type), and here he shows that's he's a terrible writer. I was never a huge fan of his, and here he just confirms my dislike. If you really want to read something from Janeane, google her numerous interviews (she's done TONS of them, probably the most of any minor celebrity ever). They're better than this "book". The fact that this book is selling used for a penny shows that people aren't as dumb as Ben and Janeane thought they were (or the publishers) when they tried to pass off this crap.

3 out of 5 stars A recommendation from the Washington Post.......2007-06-04

From The Washington Post, 'The Tortured Lives of Interrogators,' June 4 2007.

"Not long ago in Iraq, he felt "absolute power," he said, over men kept in cages. Lagouranis had forced a grandfather to kneel all night in the cold and bombarded others in metal shipping containers with the tape of the self-help parody "Feel This Book: An Essential Guide to Self-Empowerment, Spiritual Supremacy, and Sexual Satisfaction," by comedians Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofalo. ("They hated it," Lagouranis recalled. "Like, 'Please! Just stop that voice!' ") "

Boy, is that some kind of plug...

        1 out of 5 stars Unbearable.......2006-12-05

A few of Janeane's chapters have one or two funny moments, but Ben Stiller's are not to be borne.

Almost nothing that Stiller writes has any laughs whatsoever. Even as parody, something should provoke a laugh or a smile.

        Awful!

        5 out of 5 stars What a duo........2006-03-11

A laugh riot! Me and my brother read this and couldn't stop laughing. A must-read!

        5 out of 5 stars I felt this Book.......2004-06-11

I felt this book. Not just felt it, like holding it, I mean you have to hold a book to read it, but what I mean is I loved this book. It helped me get in touch with my inner comedian, the guy inside of me who wants to host a radio talk show and make $10,000,000 starring in a motion picture. Every chapter is hysterically funny. Well, not every chapter. The one by Ben Stiller having a guardian angel who looked like Hoss Cartwright is kind of like a bad sketch comedy bit that goes no where, but everything else in the book is right on and cool, to quote hip seventies language.
I guess it is kind of wierd to be praising a book five years after it came out and everybody else reviewed it five years ago. Okay, so I'm a little behind, but so what? Maybe this book was ahead of its time, maybe its time is now. Maybe Ben Stiller and Janeane Garafolo, Garofolo, Garofalo's time is now. They seem to be doing pretty well, Janeane is doing that terrific radio talk show and Ben is making a movie every other month, and I see all of them. Well, I didn't see the recent one with Jack Black, but that was in and out of the theater in like two days, but I did see "Meet the Parents" twice in the movies and twice on TV, and I'm waiting for the sequel which I have heard Barbara Streisand is going to be in.
Anyways this book has really helped me. It hasn't helped me to sell any of my thirteen screenplays which nobody has bought, but it has helped me to see being pathetic as a source of humor. That's good and amazing. Well, maybe not amazing, but interesting. And believe it or not I finished it in one afternoon, and I never did finish that book by Ellen Degeneris. Maybe, I'll finish that book today and write a review of it.

          Book Description

In this study, David Sterritt offers an introductory overview of Godard's work as a filmmaker, critic, and video artist. In subsequent chapters, he traces Godard's visionary ideas through six of his key films, including Breathless, My Life to Live, Weekend, Numéro deux, Hail Mary, and Nouvelle vague. Also included is a concise analysis of Godard's work in video, television, and mixed-media formats. Linking Godard's works to key social and cultural developments, The Films of Jean-Luc Godard explains their importance in modernist and postmodernist art of the past half century.

Godard is a hard nut to crack open and dissect his aims and thoughts.
I think Mr. Sterritt has accomplished all that.
Sometimes (the last two chapters) it's hard to proceed when the text is hard to grasp, but eventually after a couple of reviews one finally gets it (I think). Anyway it's a very rewarding experience !

            4 out of 5 stars Good book - recommended.......2002-12-08

All the Christmas music standards. Only Warner Bros. can come up with a collection like this - the best Christmas songs ever (maybe, but that's a rather objective opinion I think), all in one clever book. Includes great classical songs like "Gesu Bambino" as well as modern tunes like "Sleigh Ride". Arranged for piano/vocals/chords and includes guitar chord symbols. Not for the absolute beginner, but you don't need to be a pro to learn the pieces either. Good book - recommended.

3 out of 5 stars A must have for the christmas holidays.......2000-11-15

If you own a piano, and love christmas then you won't want to miss this deal. The book had all of my favorite christmas songs, and the price couldn't be beat. Throw it in with the rest of your order.

I Just wish Prima had put out a Guide for Enter the Matrix, Brady Games' guides are offen confusing and of sub-standard quality. This one isn't that bad, it has all the basic info and even insights in to the hacking System. But here's were it goes bad:

                              * The Pre-Walktrhough Chapter has no more info that the Manual

                              * The Walkthroughs lack maps, and sometimes that's all you need.

                              * Numerous Typos in the Encoded messages make decoding them in the Hacking a nightmare.

                              * The Dificluty estimates are way off.

                              * They forgot to show you how to make the HoverCraft MOVE!

                              * Enter the Matrix is one of those games were the path is pretty clear and in MOST(not all) cases you don't even need the Strategy guide.

                              * On the Plus side, even with the typos, it makes the Hacking System MUCH easier to figure out.

My Advice? Don't order it here, go to a store and flip through it a bit to see if it's what your looking for, and make your own decision.

                              5 out of 5 stars I'M RED ON THIS.......2003-06-02

Brady Games has done it again. Their Enter The Matrix Official Strategy Guide has got it all. It's broken down into The Construct (game play, weapons, vehicles, etc.); Characters (Ghost, Niobe, and the others they interact with); Hacking (into the game console); Jacked In (complete walkthroughs for both Ghost and Niobe); Glitches In The Matrix (unlock multiplayer, find 4 mini-games, etc.); and Behind The Game (interviews and concept art). The 190+ page book even comes with a double sided poster (Matrix Code Rain and a Matrix Universe Timeline). Also hidden inside are over 50 codes for you to find and decipher. Are you red or blue on this?

5 out of 5 stars Great For Anyone With The Game!.......2003-05-28

This strategy guide is a necessity for anyone with the game. The walkthrough might be helpful to some, although you can usually figure things out on your own. The best parts of the guide are the extensive sections on Hacking, as well as the storyboards and the spiffy timeline. Even if you're not into walkthroughs you should get the guide for all of the extras in it. This guide will definitely take you deeper down the rabbit hole...

                              5 out of 5 stars Very Helpful.......2003-05-19

This game guide helps. Alot! Great to have because of the time line it comes with that teels the history and events of the Matrix which
includes the Anime. Also it gives a walkthrough on how to hack into the game using the hacking system, which will unlock alot of secrets. So go out and get cuz it's the best guide out there.

In a global economy, it is crucial for business people to be sensitive to cultural differences. And although the best reason for doing so may be ethical, it's great for business as well! This is an invaluable book for "doing well while doing good" in your intercultural relations, covering the protocols of appointments, business entertaining, greetings, forms of address, gestures, dress, and gifts in 60 of the nations you're most likely to be doing business. Some interesting excerpts:

The authors are very aware that no generalizations apply to all residents of a nation, and are careful not to stereotype or judge. Highly recommended to any business traveler--or any student of the diversity of human cultures.

(Note: a great companion volume for this book is Gestures, which is devoted entirely to explaining the varieties of hand gestures in 82 countries!)

                              5 out of 5 stars Understanding.......2007-06-18

This is an excellent resource to assist those of us who live in the United States to better understand and relate to individuals from other countries. Behaviors are very often driven by culture. I use this with Homestay families when I place students from other countries in their homes.

5 out of 5 stars A Quick Reference on Cross Cultural Sensitivities.......2007-05-19

I run leadership programs for high potential Fortune 500 women in NYC, Boston and NJ and I meet so many talented men and women from Eastern Europe, Europe, South America, Asia, South America and even Iceland. This book gives me a quick reference on business culture, mores, traditions and social culture. I know these get out of date quickly but it's sure better than not knowing and allows you to be more responsive.

1 out of 5 stars Dubious advice at best.......2007-04-25

I lived in South East Asia for nearly 12 years including over 8 of them in Indonesia. From tiny villages in Java with just under 30 families to the skyscrapers of Jakarta, running industrial projects and developing business. I even gained a native level fluency of the language.

At no time during that entire period did I EVER find an Indonesian who would hesitate to tell me "no". They can say it, do say, and even have a few different words for it. The only time I've ever seen someone suck air between their teeth is when they've eaten something really hot.

It's naive to think a single book or individual can cover the customs of 60 countries. Having spent considerable time in one geographic region with my feet on the ground for years in nearly a dozen countries, I couldn't even begin to start to explain the cultural traits and habits of maybe four or five of those countries.

Find yourself a real cultural etiquette book that focuses on the specific country you want to visit, and forget this superficial treatment that looks like a rehash of every other general cultural etiquette book I've ever read.

3 out of 5 stars Another inaccuracy .......2007-03-30

Perhaps many of the people who are rating the book so highly did not take the "cultural IQ" quizzes. I took the one for Spain, a country I have visited. The answers were correct in identifying the Prado as being in Madrid, but the last time I visited the Alhambra, it was in Granada, not Toledo (where the book puts it). That's quite a distance to move a major cultural landmark!

Excellent reference book. Especially useful if you do international business of any kind.
