Book Description

-Extensive step-by-step demonstrations and simple exercises
-Contains templates for each step-by-step project
Watercolor for Starters is the perfect introduction to watercolor painting for the complete beginner. Paul Talbot-Greaves guides the reader through learning basic brush techniques to applying these to create a finished landscape painting.
Popular landscape subjects are broken down into achievable step-by-step exercises to help develop the reader's understanding. Also included are traceable templates for each of the projects, ensuring that the reader really can just pick up this book and paint a finished picture right away.
This book contains all the know-how the first-time painter needs to create finished paintings. All the most important aspects of watercolor painting are explained, including color theory, brush strokes, tone, composition and perspective.
Customer Reviews:
Gentle intro to a demanding medium.......2006-08-06
Watercolor, among all painting media, may be the easiest to start and the most difficult to master. Children so often begin with it, in those little pans of dried colors, but virtuosos like Beatrix Potter show how just how far the medium can be taken.
This book is for anyone starting out on that long road to mastery. Talbot-Greaves starts with the basics: "Watercolor is transparent ... You can not paint a light tone on top of a dark tone." Although this fact gives watercolor its brilliance, it also creates the greatest challenges in using the medium. After explaining the basics, the author discusses the paints themselves, in their various grades, paper, brushes (including what to avoid), and other basics including masking materials. Although he describes the different weights and surfaces of available paper, I was disappointed at how little he explained the paper's role in the finished product. Yes, the surface affects how paint will flow. The hefty substance of watercolor paper is important, also: it not only resists cockling after lengthy contact with water, it also retains the strength needed to support aggressive techniques and rework in its wet state. His discussion of color-mixing is very brief; it should be supplemented by your favorite auxiliary text.
Before he even gets into colors and mixing, Talbot-Greaves has the reader started on exercises in flat and gradient washes - the most basic of watercolor techniques, and the ones that differ most from painting with viscous media like oils, tempera, gouache, or acrylic. He then shows other brush techniques, and demonstrates how to "read" the use of each technique in a finished painting. (Talbot-Greaves is a pragmatist, by the way, and un-fussy about selective use of opaque white where it can help.)
Sections on color and color mixing, composition, and perspective are brief - they'd just get in the way of putting paint to paper, which is Talbot-Greaves's real goal. I would have hoped for a little more time spent on color and mixing, so I hope you'll supplement this overly-brief discussion with another text.
Instead of a general discussion of available colors and their individual characteristics, Talbot-Greaves plunges directly into projects of graded difficulty and specifies the colors to use for each. This may be a surpise to some students: seeing how much versatility there is in just a small selection of colors. Even complex images get by nicely on a limited palette - you don't need every color every time. Each project addresses specific skills, from basic washes up to the many approaches needed for creating complex textures. The final section of the book supports these lessons by showing the photos and initial sketches behind each project. The author encourages the student to copy these skeletal templates. This is not to quash creativity, but to let students skip over compositional problems on the way to getting their hands constructively dirty.
Like any other instructional book (and there are lots out there), this one has its strengths and weaknesses. The plusses outweigh the minuses though. By itself or with other texts, this is a good one to start with.

Product Description
2 Books: 76 pages and 48 pages.
Artist Blacksmithing is a creative process. It begins with an idea which then becomes a mental picture. This must then become a real picture, usually a free-hand drawing, detailed enough to let the beginning smith visualize his idea, determine its size, shape and proportions, and also realistic enough so the experienced smith can present it to his customer, and use it as a basis for a dimensioned shop drawing.
These two books will help both apprentice and expert in a most important part of their work.
"The pencil is as important a tool for the blacksmith as his hammer." - Jack Andrews.
"Serious practice in freehand drawing is of basic importance." - Max Metzger.
The drawings in these books appear to be three-dimensional; the objects look as though they could be picked up. The realistic effect is the result of simple shading techniques explained in detail in the text, and avoids the drawing of an engineer. The workbook assigns exercises that will require the blacksmith to do his homework: consider the historical style that is pertinent, be compatible with the surroundings, and meet the functional requirements. Answers to exercises are provided. Together the two books will be useful tools in the artist-blacksmith's shop. The author, Rudolf Baum, is head of the metalwork department at a state technical school in Hennef, Germany. He prepared these books to provide an introduction to descriptive drawing for both apprentices and advanced artist-blacksmiths.

Customer Reviews:
Copied from Brain Press Reviews.......2007-06-21
This book is a long overdue treat for jewelers, blacksmiths, sculptors, and all artists of metalwork. It has information on chasing and repoussé in greater depth and detail than any other volume today available in the English language. Painstakingly translated from German this text is a valuable resource for both the professional and the hobbyist. Adolf Steines is clearly a master metalworker who enthusiastically demonstrates his creativity, knowledge, skill, and experience. The book thoroughly addresses the workroom, tools, materials, working surfaces (including carpeting and pitches), transfer of designs, sinking, raising, stamping, chasing, repoussé, engraving, soldering, etching, as well as the coloring and protection of metal surfaces. Numerous examples of the author's works are illustrated including large scale doors, fountains, memorials, wall sculptures and portraits, as well as many delicate jewelry pieces. A number of tricks and special techniques are described, such as using air powered hammers for forming and chasing. Profusely illustrated with very clear drawings and quality photographs of objects and procedures, this book is essential for the library of every serious artist working with metal.

"Keep this cartoon book with Dr. Spock and all the other baby-care tomes.... You'll like the whole book." --Booklist
Customer Reviews:
If you missed the early ones, get this book!.......2002-12-29
"Baby Blues : This is Going to be Harder Than We Thought" is the first book of the series and a must for "Baby Blues" fans. You can really see how much this comic strip has evolved, but yet, some things will never change. With great expressions and witty lines, it will have you smirking in no time. I recommend.
A must have book for all parents and kids!!.......2001-09-02
I got this book about 3 months ago, and I loved it! It shows you that parenting isn't the most easiest thing in the world. This book has lots of laughs and good times in it. So if you want lots of laughs (100 percent guranteed) then get this wonderful book!
True to Life!.......2001-06-22
I have been a fan of Baby Blues since my daughter was born, eight years ago. I sometimes think that Mr. Kirkman and Mr. Scott hide outside my windows and take notes, because so many of their strips are right on the mark! If you have small children, are thinking about having small children, or just want a good belly laugh, I highly recommend the entire series of Baby Blues collections. Enjoy!
The best gift for new parents you'll find..........2000-11-17
We received this as a gift from friends when we had our first child, and could not stop laughing as we gained a new appreciation for what it meant to be parents. Whether you're new parents, know someone who is, or have been parents for years and want to remember what it was *really* like, this book needs to be on your list.
We've now given this book as a gift to four other couples who've had babies recently, and all agree that it's their favorite new book on the shelf. It covers everything - changing the first diaper, the first visits from the parents (both sets), sleepless nights, and the joy of teething, to mention a few.
Buy this book. You'll laugh for a long time, and will probably end up sharing it with your other friends fortunate enough to have kids of their own.
A comic strip that tells like it is about raising kiddies!.......2000-04-25
At first, I didn't really like the comic strip all about babies and parenting, which simply isn't my cup of tea. But - over the time, I began to truly appreciate what a vaulable contribution it could be to our society: a pretty stern disclaimer to the usual maternal fantasy that every young girl holds dear to her heart when she is old enough to get married and produce children. The not-so-nice part of having babies like labor pains, breastfeeding, dirty diapers, vomiting, screaming temper tantrums, shot nerves, etc. are all so candidly depicted here on the very pages of our funnies. In fact, it seems to me that if it wasn't for the kinship ties and the anxious need to support the future species, Darryl and Wanda would've probably been very happy to simply drop off Zoe and Hammie at a nearby orphanage.

Book Description
Kids say the darndest things? Adults DO them!!! Author Judy Reiser offers up more hilarious eccentricities exhibited (and confessed to) by otherwise normal people. Everyone has at least one particular oddity in his or her daily way of life. The trick is to get them to admit to it. These side-splitting actions are categorized from hilarious bathroom behavior to funny money and clothing habits to eating and sleeping peculiarities to germ-a-phobia and more.
Here are just a few examples of the extremes, dare we say rituals, we'll go through to perform everyday activities:
Flipping through a magazine at a newsstand then reaching for a fresh copy to buy because the one they were flipping through is no longer new.
Enumerating (1, 2, 3...) while urinating and trying to end their peeing on an even number.
Flossing between their toes with a pair of socks to remove sock fuzz at the end of the day.
Eating the most expensive part of a meal first, just in case they can't finish everything.
Ironing the newspaper before reading it to protect them self against germs.
Leaving sunglasses on top of the fridge so a midnight raid won't blind them by opening it.
Controlling shedding by vacuuming the cat.
Collected from real, live, actual human beings, the zaniness begins again in Admit It, You're Crazy!
Customer Reviews:
Going Bananas!.......2006-08-15
Ever heard of someone who makes holes in her socks? A person who irons his newspaper? What about a cat who runs a treadmill? These and many other quirks are now available in one book to tickle your sane nerve. Author Judy Reiser brings to public notice the many quirks and idiosyncrasies of people in her recent book Admit It, You're Crazy! (Andrew McMeel Publishing, Missouri, 2005).
Judy Reiser's book is a collage of interview clips of numerous individuals, all adults, in first person. These run the gamut of humor from real crackers to slightly off-the-track peculiarities of living. Obsessive thinking and resulting compulsion is the recurring motif in most of the instances included. At times, the behavior will not seem so irrational as some of the persons relate it to their early experiences and some of them definitely reflect the reader's own quirks.
As far as goes the fun part of the book, it will depend on the reader's own rationality whether the instances scribed elicit a guffaw or a sigh out him/her. More matter-of-course response from the reader, more reason to suspect one's normality. Grins! But the book is certainly unique in that the author's absence is nearly fixed (except in occasional questions); in some ways a short coming because after reading over fifty pages you feel lost in a deluge of voices popping in and out incessantly.
One beautifying feature of the book is the adornment with colored headings, fun figures, and vignettes that go in perfect accord with the business of going bananas. Money, eating habits, bathroom behavior, travel, and germ-response stories are presented with the profession, gender, and age of the people involved. Judy Reiser has done a nice job in letting people put on the make-up of self-critical smile before they stand under their shower. Wink!
PS: Judy Reiser is open to receiving more quirks and idiosyncrasies from people. She can be reached by e-mail given at the end of her book.
A fun read!.......2005-10-21
An OCD ALERT! (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, that is).
Judy Reiser interviewed 2,000 people to find out their quirks--many you and I share.
Her bathroom humor section (toilet paper, seat use, reading material) was amazing as I thought it was only at my house this happened.
She captured the behavior of spouse and friends alike--things you learn to ignore or they will drive you nuts. Married 38 years I know! That's why the concept of tolerance should be added to the wedding vows.
I didn't see myself in hardly any of them, but then I am a compulsive liar. Actually I had no favorites in the hundreds of little quirky stories because so many resonated with me in some way.
Great gift book that will end up in the bathroom, where according to a "man quirk" there MUST be something to read.
Armchair Interviews says: Admit It, You're Crazy is a fun read for your house or a gift--say a bridal shower so the unsuspecting bride will get some much-needed clues.
Think You're a Bit Quirky? Me too!.......2005-09-27
Just reading the names of the seven chapters will tell you a bit about what this book is about, here they are: Loo-ney Tales, Funny Money, Assorted Nuts, Night Shtick, Close Encounters of the Strange Kind, The Howard Huges Syndrome, and lastly, Now I've Heard Everything. Sound like there might be a bit of humor in this book. You betcha!
Judy Reiser has put together a whole slew of quirky things people do. Where did she get 'em, why from people she interviewed. Real people, just like you and me. Well, maybe not just like us, but close enough, at least if you've got quriks, or maybe even it you're a teeny, tiny bit obsessive. Do you iron your newspaper? Do you clean your bathroom from top to bottom before leaving on a trip? Does each slice of bread on your sandwich have to match perfectly? Do you have to have equal amount of cerial and milk on every spoonful? When you're filling out the tip for your waiter or waitress on a credit card bill do you make it round off to zero? Wait a minute, I do that! What's so quirky about that?
Actually that's not the only thing I do that's mentioned in this book. And I'll bet you'll find somethings in here that you do. This is just the perfect book to replace your old bathroom reader. What the heck, might as well have a few laughs when you're in there. This is just a must have book.

Yawn.......2005-09-10
There are some funny obsessions and compulsions in here (no, no, "quirks and idiosyncracies"), but there's such a low-grade sameness to it overall that if you're leafing through the book looking for the side-slappers, as opposed to reading choice samples in a review, you have to be a very special type of person to stay amused. It's not particularly nasty--the author must be a nice lady--but it palls very quickly.
How Crazy Are We?.......2005-05-09
This book collects together lots of goofy things people do. Some of it is compulsive behavior, phobias, or just quirks. It was fun looking though it to see if any were behaviors I have.
I liked the one where the lady puts her hot iron in the refrigerator to avoid any possibility of a fire after finishing her ironing. You can't help but smile at some of the ideas. One woman shopped for food that starts with the same letter (carrots, cat food, corn). Must have made life complicated.
The behaviors are grouped so there's a chapter on food, clothing, money, sleep, germs, bathroom, and miscellaneous.

this book has all you need to know about the history from the begining till 1991.
Book Description
Rap is generally acknowledged as originating from New York, when the Jamaican-born DJ Cool Herc started spinning discs for parties in the late seventies. People would originally talk and then “rap” over the top of this. From there it spread all across the United States and then around the world. But the key songs are from the United States, and are all featured in this unique book. Hip Hop: Bring the Noise expands the best-selling Stories Behind the Songs series to include musical genres. Rap is the most powerful and overtly political music ever. Rappers always had a lot of words, but what were they really talking about? This book features dozens of photographs and examines fifty of the greatest hip hop songs ever recorded, from the innocent, fun-loving classics of the founding fathers (“Rapper’s Delight”—The Sugar Hill Gang) through Gangsta-rapping anti-authoritarianism (“F**k the Police”—N.W.A.) and bad-boy sexism (“Gangster of Love”—Geto Boys) to the multiplatinum sellers of the twenty-first century (“Stan”—Eminem). The subtlety and intelligence of many rappers lie hidden behind media hype and misinformation. Hip Hop: Bring the Noise helps to right this wrong and showcase rap for the groundbreaking musical movement that it is.

Since then, it's likely that no gambling personality has been featured more often in the media than this "Gambling Grandma." Her frequent national publicity, her long-term success in casinos around the world, and the solid low-rolling advantage-lay techniques she's divulged along the way have all helped catapult THE FRUGAL GAMBLER into the ranks of best-selling gambling books. And now THE FRUGAL GAMBLER is completely revised and updated. New information includes a completely revamped chapter on video poker, updated coverage of getting the most out of slot clubs, recent examples of exploitable gambling promotions, and a brand new Resources section, identifying the best sources of player information availablefrom books to software to the Internet.

Queen of Frugal.......2006-10-22
Jean Scott may not have been the originator of the wise advice: "A penny saved is a penny earned," but it fits her philosophy perfectly. I am a professional gambler and writer (Casino Gambling for Fun and Profit:Second Edition)and note that much of the money to be squeezed out of the casinos comes from cash coupons, cashback, promotions, etc. Jean Scott is a master at getting the last penny in fringe benefits from the casinos.

The Frugal Gambler.......2005-01-29
I really didn't think it gave me much information on deals in Vegas which I thought it would.
Not Very Frugal Buy.......2004-09-09
I believe that The Frugal Gambler, and the sequel, More Frugal Gambling, were highly relevant in the old days. By old days I mean when Casino Hosts had discretion in issuing comps. Today the system is so highly automated by Slot Club Cards that there is little room for negotiation for better comps. Today you need to simply SIGN UP for a card where ever you are playing. One thing I do find problematic about this series is that it does not address the need to stick to one club, whether it be Harrahs or Ceasars or whatever, in order to get the most bang for your buck. Spreading your gambling budget between multiple casinos merely dilutes your value to each of those casinos.
If you are a table player, then definately check out Comp City, by Max Rubin. You can still buck the table rating system today. That is until MindPlay rating systems become universal.
Buy only if you have no idea how casino marketing works.......2004-03-25
This book is a great introduction into casino marketing and how they get you into thier casino to gamble. There is no miracle in this book to get a ton of free stuff.
This book and her "new" book are the same book just her old book she doesn't try to sell you all her other products. There is no reason to buy this book unless you don't know how to sign up for a slot club or ask a pit boss/slot host for free things.
Rehashes Basic Information.......2002-09-20
Most of the information in her book is available on cable TV for free. She gives very little specific information regarding anything about how to play. If you want info on how to join a slot club, available free at any casino, then this book is for you. Otherwise, forget it.

Praise for THE NEW MARKET WIZARDS
"Jack Schwager simply writes the best books about trading I've ever read. These interviews always give me a lot to think about. If you like learning about traders and trading, you'll find that reading this book is time well spent." -Richard Dennis, President, The Dennis Trading Group, Inc.
"Jack Schwager's deep knowledge of the markets and his extensive network of personal contacts throughout the industry have set him apart as the definitive market chronicler of our age." -Ed Seykota
"Very interesting indeed!" -John Train, author of The Money Masters
"Successful trading demands longtime experience because it requires firsthand knowledge. If there is a shortcut to this requirement, however, it is in reading about the experiences of others. Jack Schwager's book provides that shortcut. If you find yourself sweating upon occasion as you read, then you're as close to the trading experience as you can get without actually doing it yourself." -Robert R. Prechter, Jr., editor, The Elliott Wave Theorist
THE NEW MARKET WIZARDS
Some traders distinguish themselves from the herd. These supertraders make millions of dollars-sometimes in hours-and consistently outperform their peers.
As he did in his acclaimed national bestseller, Market Wizards, Jack Schwager interviews a host of these supertraders, spectacular winners whose success occurs across a spectrum of financial markets. These traders use different methods, but they all share an edge. How do they do it? What separates them from the others? What can they teach the average trader or investor?
In The New Market Wizards, these wildly successful traders relate the financial strategies that have rocketed them to success, as well as the embarrassing losses that have proven them all too human.
Meet the Wizards of Wall Street:
* Stan Druckenmiller, who, as manager of the Soros Quantum Fund, realized an average annual return of more than 38 percent on assets ranging between $2.0 and $3.5 billion
* William Eckhardt, a mathematician who, in collaboration with trader Richard Dennis, selected and trained the now-legendary circle known as the Turtles
* Bill Lipschutz, a former architect who, for eight years, was Salomon Brothers' largest and most successful currency trader
* Blair Hull, a one-time blackjack player who began an options trading company with
Asking the questions that readers with an interest in the financial markets would love to pose to the financial superstars, and filled with candid appraisals, The New Market Wizards takes its place as a classic.

No secrets.......2007-10-01
Jack does a nice job as usual. Have a plan, stick to it, and don't let your emotions control your trading.
Everyone loses in the beginning, so you need cash to keep going.
Great read..........2007-09-22
I am far from a great trader and definitely in the category of novice. My brother recommended I read this book and its predecessor. The knowledge I picked up from both books coupled with a lot of reading and research spawned by what I found in the book have allowed me to generate decent returns on investments that have been stagnant for about a year. Within a three week time period I was able to go from being in the hole 6% in unrealized gains to being up over 10% in unrealized gains. I have since realized those gains and re-invested them looking to turn some more profit.
So I would say this is definitely a worthwile read for those interested in finding out how the big investors/traders became who they are and trying to come up with your own methodology for not falling into some of the pitfalls the market holds for the novice investor.
Mandatory Reading, Excellent.......2007-03-07
This book is excellent, mandatory reading for all aspiring traders and interested fans of the financial markets. A joy to read, covering everything from the nuts and bolts to the philosophy/psychology of the supertrader.
buy this right now dont waste time .......2007-01-12
thats all there is too say just buy it now and dont think twice
Boo Hiss...Horrible.......2006-11-25
This is one of the worst books on investing I've ever read. I read his first one from the library and loved it. This one stinks to high heaven. Grammatical errors, misspelled words are really tough to get past. I can see one or two, but...!!!!!
On top of that, the content is empty and very disappointing. If you're looking for a book similar to the first, forget it. This one does not measure up at all. If I could get my money back, I would in a second.
