Most of the tales are amusing, several are laugh-out-loud hilarious, but a few border on the tragic/tasteless. Overall, not bad. Worth a read if you're bored and want a good chuckle.

Not worth reading..........2006-06-13

When I bought this book at a significant discount, I expected that I would find it moderately charming with lots of funny stories and witty insight about the demise of fools. Quite frankly, the stories were not funny and the insight was not witty.

I agree with other reviewers that the rules and regulations in the book was ridiculously cumbersome. This book just takes itself way too seriously. I don't care how the stories were selected, so much as I'd like to read stories that were interesting.

I haven't read any previous editions of "The Darwin Awards," so I cannot attest to the suggestion that the well is running dry. I will simply state that I found many of the anecdotes to be far from fascinating, many of them downright boring. And at the end of the day, I just have a hard time laughing at the death of humans, regardless of the stupid choices that they may have made to bring about their demise.

Ultimately, I chose not to give it one star because the book did provide what it promised. I probably should have known that this type of supposed humor just wouldn't resonate with me. Nonetheless, I found the book to be cold and stale, and I now have no interest in investigating anything further from this perspective.

Wow is this bad.

I barely made it through the first chapter of rules and procedures. The author prattled on for what seemed like several George Burn's lifetimes beating to death the "rules". The US Constitution isn't this arcane.
The greatest fault I feel is the author obviously went through some sort of experimental procedure where her sense of humor was completely and utterly ripped out. In addition to the arrogant and condescending attitude. The "clever" and "sarcastic" remarks are as funny as Josef Stalin reading the Yellow Pages if he had ever endeavored to do so. I was so angry and agitated at the text the "punch lines" flew past me unnoticed.
Henny Youngman once quipped "Take my Wife, please" This author would turn those elegant four words into a unabomberesque rant only an intellectual living in a shack in Montana could appreciate.
There must be an award for taking a great idea and turning it into a poorly executed exercise in hubris.

Lots of fun, great for retelling.......2005-09-29

This book is a hoot! It's a fun, if sadistic, look at just how dumb people can be. It's also great for adding funny stories to your repertoire. One of the things that makes this book rise above others in its field, is the confirmed/non-confirmed accuracy rating. Knowing that the Darwin team has investigated many of the stories for their truthfulness makes them all the better.

Decent Resource.......2001-08-22

Like many resource books, "Executive Marbles" offers a little something for everyone. If you are looking to purchase an "everything I could ask for in one resource book" this is not for you. If you are looking for a few new ideas to begin or enhance your personal bag of tricks, this book will likely deliver.

I had some difficulty with the written explanation of some of the activities. Less isn't always more. More detailed descriptions would have been helpful. Also, the lack of helpful diagrams and the limited descriptive photos might be troublesome for visual learners.

There is a helpful chart in the front of the book detailing the recommended group sizes for each activity. The team size information would have been even more helpful had it also been included with each individual write up. Less flipping back and forth.

There are a couple initiatives that have been used frequently in our programs since having purchased this book. We have had tremendous luck with "Insanity" in particular.

If you are developing a resource library, this selection may not become your most referenced book, but it is not likely to gather dust on a shelf. A decent resource and a decent value.

I have read a little of the book and find Mr. Moglia writes well but the truth is that Ameritrade's business practices leave a lot to be desired given my experience with them.
Ameritrade holds little value in the individual customer.
Coaching football and being a CEO are not the same. You can be mean to your players but you need to treat your investors with respect.

Too Many Football Analogies.......2006-12-28

Moglia's approach to the topic is very well thought out. He covers all the angles of investing in the markets. However, the football analogies are overdone and unnecessary. His credentials and his exposition should be based on what he has done in the business world, not on what he did on a football field.

This book is packed with important information for new investors from one of the most respected people in the investment world. I have recommended this book to many of my clients who are sports fanatics and they found it to be useful, practical and engaging. The "Game Plan" page at the end of each chapter reviews the main points and the glossary serves as a quick and easy reference.

The book is about becoming successful in investing and Moglia uses sports analogies to explain concepts that are complicated or a puzzlement to people like me.

The introduction keeps my attention, so I think I'm in for a good ride. After seeing the Game Plan page at the end of each chapter, I start reading the bulleted list first because it reviews the main points of the chapter and lets me know what to expect in the chapter.

The handy glossary provides useful for the novice who may not be familiar with the terms used in the book and in the investment world. As always when reading any book offering financial advice, the reader must remember that the judgments offered are the author's and others might disagree with some of the concepts.

Coach Yourself to Success is a great primer for new investors or those who have little or no knowledge about investments. It also provides good brush-up text for more experienced investors who may want or need to analyze their portfolios. As the author explains, you should continuously keep up and change your allocations as circumstances dictate. The writing is clear, the concepts simple and the advice down-to-earth and basic. Most individual investors will find the book a practical resource.

A great book for beginner investors.......2005-07-13

I think this book is a wonderful tool for people who are interested in investing their money but don't understand their options, especially 20-somethings. It explains the different type of investments out there along with pros and cons of each. This book makes investing less intimidating and even provides resources to help you get started. This book was like a pep talk for me - it provided instructions, clear explanations and encouragment. Towards the end of the book you get the feeling that this is just a marketing tool to drive you towards Ameritrade/Amerivest products. That said, by no means should this be the only book you read, but it's a great starting point.
