For the globally brand-conscious, a showcase of innovative and effective corporate designs from companies that conduct business around the world.
Customer Reviews:
Waste of time and money.......2005-12-26
Well, I must say I am very disappointed with this book. The way things are ordered in it, is very bad, with a lots of incomplete examples about corporate identity designs. The design examples, are very poor and they don't reflect the good and modern graphic design nowadays. Don't waste your money and time on this book. Please take a good look at your street, I'm sure you will find there better graphic design examples.

Customer Reviews:
Buy it instead of "French Chic"! .......2006-04-04
I probably own a hundred "how to dress" books, and this is one of my favorites. Sommers' previous book, "French Chic", may accurately explain how French women dress, but the tips she gives and the examples she uses would make you a laughingstock in America. (One photo presents a plump woman with waist-length hair, huge sunglasses, and a beach towel thrown over her shoulder like a shawl. But she's not dressed for the beach -- these accessories accompany ordinary day clothes. The message seems to be that the French find eccentricity the height of elegance.)
By contrast, "Italian chic" describes a classic style that works anywhere, with all ages, and is not quickly dated. Low-key, high-quality, versatile clothing is featured. Chapters on Italian culture, skin and hair care are a plus. The writing is charming, and the book itself is beautiful, with high-quality, glossy paper, and lovely photos. It's ten times better than "French Chic". Now if only Sommers would write "Chinese Chic","Indian Chic", "English Chic", etc.....
Excellent for the fashion enthusiast!.......2001-08-02
If you are interested in fashion, you will love Italian Chic. This out of print book like its cousin French Chic (also written by Susan Sommers) is rapidly becoming a sought after collectible. Though French Chic has been listed for prices well over $100 Italian Chic can be found for much lower. Yet of the two books, my preference is for Italian Chic. The book written in 1992 describes how to incorporate Italian style secrets into simple to follow fashion guidelines. You will learn where to scrimp, where to splurge. How to update what you own. How to travel light and wrinkle free. Make a shawl work for every occasion. The pictures in the book are contemporary and work today. Unlike many fashion books where you are supposed to pick your look like romantic or trendy and dress accordingly Italian Chic is classic and works forever. You will learn how to work your wardrobe to your best advantage. Much is covered in this detailed book, everything from the type of jeans to wear and where they should hit on the ankle to the classic sunglass choice. There is a whole section on makeup for maximum effect. The Italians put the emphasis on the eyes. And information on how water helps the Italian skin glow. Excellent resource for those that want to look fabulous!
Worth finding.......2000-02-15
The regional distinctions might not be accurate (or maybe they are), but the fashion tips and photos are wonderful. I refer to my own worn copy of this book, regularly. If you're trying to determine your own "look," this book is helpful.
Book Description
The Doctor's home planet of Gallifrey has been destroyed. The Time Lords are dead, their TARDISes annihilated. The man responsible has been tracked down and lured to Earth in the year 2005, where there will be no escape. But Earth has its hands full - a mystery signal is being received from a radio telescope, there's a second moon in the sky, and a primordial alien menace has been unleashed. The stage is set for the ultimate confrontation. Now, the last of the Time Lords must ensure that justice is done. The Doctor and his companions Fitz and Trix will meet their destiny. And this time, the Doctor isn't going to be able to save everybody. This is the last in the continuing series of original adventures of the Eighth Doctor.
Customer Reviews:
Not bad.......2006-02-25
It's hard to swallow that Gallifrey is gone, but it is an interesting twist. I must admit at the end of the book I was very interested in what was to happen next. The bit about everyone who died really didn't wasn't quite so believable, but it is science fiction. A good Who read.
The End Of An Arc....................................2006-02-13
This novel deftly ties up(well, almost....) the Eighth Doctor arc begun all the way back in "The Ancestor Cell". We discover the actual fate of the Doctor's home planet of Gallifrey (I won't give this away here!), which was believed to be destroyed, of necessity, by the Doctor's own actions; we discover that there are Timelords still about; and the way is also paved for the emergence of Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor in both the literary and television mediums. Don't expect a regeneration, though; that's widely avoided to give further wind to the McGann era, as this leaves open the possibility of further Eighth Doctor Adventures. Solid story and characters, well paced, and a neat bridge between the mythos of television Doctor Who and the Doctor's adventures in the literary medium. This one is not to be missed; it delivers even for the reader who hasn't faithfully followed the BBC books Eighth Doctor arc, as well as leaving the "door" wonderfully wide open...............
A Rousing Send Off.......2006-02-11
The eighth Doctor gets a spectaular send off in popular author Lance Parkin's books. Despite criticism from some fan quarter about what the book doesn't cover, people should look beyond this and simply see this as a celebration of the 10 years of the eighth doctor.
Not everything I hoped for, yet a good read........2006-02-07
I was hoping to "see" the regeneration from the 8th to the 9th Doctor, but we did not get it. Just a quick, "Well I'm off to die!" at the end of the book. The story was good enough, but it headed in a completetly different direction two thirds of the way through. If you like the 8th Doctor, this is a good book. It just didn't quite answer all the questions I had.
A Great Footnote in Dr. Who canon!.......2005-11-17
A mysterious Earth-bound Timelord watches, evaluates the Doctor in a stream of seemingly unrelated adventures, the Doctor's home planet of Gallifrey, the Timelords, their TARDISes, a companion all dead and gone the Doctor's memories maybe gone too. Is the Doctor responsible?
It's fitting that Lance Parkin writes the last (of the continuing) adventures featuring Paul McGann's 8th incarnation of the Doctor, since Parkin wrote the first original novel featuring this Doctor in The Dying Days (The New Adventures from Virgin Publishing). It is a well-earned honor, because like his other novels ("The Infinity Doctors" is brillant!), this is another great one. The voices of the Doctor and his companions, Trix and Fitz, who are preparing to depart, are clear and consistent. This is a good novel to make way for the Eccleston 9th incarnation novels soon to the "flood" shelves. As "The Gallifrey Chronicles" represent the end of an era of sorts and the begining of a new one, a personal irony in this regard is that this novel is all that remains of my Dr. Who book collection due to Katrina. Hopefully future offerings from Mr. Parkin and BBC books will be as good as this and make rebuilding my collection worthwhile.
Customer Reviews:
Very good.......2004-06-06
This is a very good resource for plumbling the depths of Time Lord physiology, characters from Gallifrey, and Gallifrey history. Perhaps the best part of this book is the theoretical hypotheses that Peel articulates so well about such things as regeneration and dual cardiovascular systems.
I considered giving this five stars, but there is something about the book that turns me off. For one thing, the cover art is simply awful, and I am a very visual person. Why not just get a good photo of Tom Baker from Deadly Assasign or Invasion of Time?
Also, some of the plot summaries of epsiodes with The Master, The Rani, and others are rather tedious.
One of the best Doctor Who information Books.......2000-05-05
The book is full of different biographies of the characters, Including all of the companions and has quite interesting Information on the different stories and the monsters faced in the series.

Makes a great gift.......2004-11-29
This quick-read makes a perfect gift for the woman who really does love cats too much -- like me. It is thoughtful and it delivers a chuckle on every page, and the illustrations are cute. A lot of the points made in the book will really hit home for cat lovers.
A must read for all Cat lovers!.......2002-08-12
This book was HILARIOUS>^..^
< I am an admitted Cat-aholic so I could totally relate to this book. Especailly since I spent 3 hours putting a perch together for them yesterday before I read the book:-) Nothing is too good for my furrbabies!
Hi. My name is Kathy, and I'm a Cat-oholic..........2001-02-20
As I sit here in the middle of the night typing this, my cat sits on my lap as she purrs away and I hit the keyboard while my elbows are uncomfortably extended out straight...of course I won't bend them...I wouldn't want to disturb my baby. She's comfortable. Thank you Allia for letting me know that there are others out there and I am not alone. At last, group therapy may be available!!!
If your wallet contains a photo of your cat or perhaps if the feline decides what's for dinner tonight, then get this little book. You will laugh and laugh. The full-color illustrations are funny as they depict you and I too well! Many meows to you all.
This book is a laugh a page!.......1999-02-27
No matter how many times I read this book, I always LOL (Laugh Out Loud) -- maybe because it's so true!
Book Description
Originally published in Italian in 1915, Shoot! is one of the first novels to take as its subject the heady world of early motion pictures. Based on the absurdist journals of fictional Italian camera operator Serafino Gubbio, Shoot! documents the infancy of film in Europe—complete with proto-divas, laughable production schedules, and cost-cutting measures with priceless effects-—and offers a glimpse of the modern world through the camera's lens.
Shoot!, presented here in its 1927 English translation, is a classic example of Nobel Prize-winning Sicilian playwright Luigi Pirandello's (1867-1936) literary talent and genius for blurring the line between art and reality. From the film studio Kosmograph, Pirandello's Gubbio steadily winds the crank of his camera by day and scribbles with his pen by night, revealing the world both mundane and melodramatic that unfolds in front of his camera. Through Gubbio's narrative—saturated with fantasy and folly—Pirandello grapples with the philosophical implications of modernity. Like much of Pirandello's work, Shoot! parodies human weaknesses, drawing attention to the themes of isolation and madness as emerging tendencies in the modern world.
Enhanced by new critical commentaries, Shoot! is an entertaining caricature, capturing early twentieth-century Italian filmmaking and revealing its truths as only a parody can.

Can't go wrong with this book!.......2007-05-17
Don't let that 'Young' Beginners' fool you. This book is for anyone wanting to get into rock or r&b sax, even a grey-beard like me! Progression is good with both melody, rhythm, and starting improv covered. The cd has both alto and tenor tracks. Geller makes it reasonably easy to sound good, but it will take some effort. Price and Laughter each have a great rock sax book, but this is the place to start!

Lots of pictures, not very much instruction.......2007-08-01
I started scrapbooking a few months ago and was looking for a type of "how-to" book that would give me instructions on how to do the basic, different things (techniques) involved in scrapbooking. I read the reviews for this book and thought it sounded like what I was looking for so I bought it. I was rather disappointed. It does have many, many pictures of layouts that other people have done and they are very nice. What it doesn't have is very much instruction. There are a few small paragraphs explaining different techniques in a general way and we are told what products were used to make each layout/picture. I guess what you will get out of this book depends on how you want to make your scrapbooks. If you like to use other people's ideas then this book will be great. I prefer to come up with my own ideas about layouts and the use of colors, photos, etc., so this book didn't really help me much.
The full-page color photos of sample layouts are clear and uncluttered, and the result is packed with inspirational examples........2007-02-09
There are plenty of books on scrapbooking in the market, but this packs in so much more information than competitors that it's the recommended pick for any library seeking just one or two authoritative texts on the subject. Such a collection will find not only the usual tips on how to produce polished scrapbook results, but interviews and profiles of leading designers and companies, advice for newcomers on improving images and presentation, and keys to understanding a camera's advanced - often unused - capabilities. The full-page color photos of sample layouts are clear and uncluttered, and the result is packed with inspirational examples.

All inclusive information for scrapbookers, no other books needed!.......2007-01-09
Save yourself money and shelf space - this book covers everything you need to know be a brilliant scrapbooker! I checked out every book on scrapbooking from our county library system (over 40) and this book is far superior to any of the others, so I had to have a copy of my own for frequent reference. It is a big, thick, all color book of high quality glossy pages with a good sturdy binding to allow for heavy use. It starts with the basics - colors, including what-goes-with-what for the more color challenged of us, how they interact with each other, how diffferent colors on the same layout touch different emotions, etc. It covers photography: what makes a good photo and how to take it, how lighting can change the feelings the photo evokes, how to crop a photo so it coveys what you want reflected, etc. It covers papers, vellums, cardstock, and what you need to know about each category. It covers embellishements thoroughly, and gives great ideas for uses of household items that look fantastic, not tacky, on pages. It gives great info on what makes good titling, journaling, etc. I could go on and on. This is not just a 'picture book' though it has literally hundreds of pages of gorgeous layouts for those of us who prefer to 'scraplift' ideas (copy the layout). It has all the information you need to be a designer scrapbooker, all you have to do is read it, and it is worth reading - every word!

A magazine?.......2006-06-27
I thought this was an actual book, but it is just a thicker magazine. It's okay. Good for the pictures.
A font of great ideas for cardmaking.......2006-04-18
I agree with the other reviewer: I loved reading this book. I pored over every page and card idea.
You get one sample recipe or template where the how-to's are explained and then several riffs on the recipe, all very different and done by different designers. It was easy enough to figure out how these other cards were made.
I would describe the card elements used as being mostly those in a scrapbooker's arsenal: embellishments, ribbon, and patterned paper, and the designs are all very clean and contemporary. Hallelujah! There is hardly a country or Victorian/romance design in the bunch and for that I am very grateful.
I am excited to get going on making some of these.
Must have for all paper crafters.......2005-12-21
This is the best and easiest book to give inspiration. The ideas are quick and each comes with a sketch and multiple examples of how to adapt the sketch. It is a book I pull out again and again!
Customer Reviews:
Good - a little outdated.......2004-07-02
It has good information in it. The quality of the scrapbook pages is a little "outdated." With advances in supplies & techniques, I'd recommend a subscription to Creating Keepsakes (also Lisa Bearnson) instead. The pages featured are true inspiration to get those creative juices flowing. Product articles also keep you up to date on new items hitting the market - what's safe what's not. I will probably still refer back to this book periodically.
Scrapbookers of all levels should read this!.......2002-12-02
"Joy of Scrapbooking" is great for the beginner scrapbooker, and even good for an advanced scrapbooker, who wants to look back at the basics. With an easy reading format, helpful hints, tips, and ideas, and a few pages of examples in the back, this book is incredibly helpful and useful and everything is in color! You must always keep this book by your scrapbooking work area! I recommend.
A beginner's must.......2002-11-23
This book helped me to get started on scrapbooking. Joy of Scrapbooking provides recommendations on tools and materials, basic techniques including taking photos. The latter part of the section provides sample scrap pages. This book's definitely a must for beginners!
I love this book.......2002-06-05
This is a great book for getting started in scrapbooking. It is not only loaded with useful information and beautiful color pictures, it is also well written and easy to understand. It is among the best how-to books I've read on any subject.
A sound guide to basic scrapping........2001-07-03
If you are in the market for a beginner's guide to scrapbooking, then in my opinion, you have come to the zenith of the craft in finding this book! Although I never have the patience or time to create as involved and perfect looking layouts as I see in the Creating Keepsakes magazines and books, I always look to them for the newest techniques and supplies. I've become quite adept at "scraplifting" and modifying layouts by my favorite artists (including Becky Higgins and Heidi Swapp.) This particular book will take you through the basics...supplies, journaling, layout, etc...all with Lisa Bearnson's friendly instruction. It basically takes your hand and walks you through the overwhelming task of beginning scrapbooking so that you can start out with a strong foundation of USEFUL knowledge. It may also help to prevent you from buying a lot of things that you won't necessarily use right off the bat...and may also prevent you from making a few of the mistakes that I now cringe at when I look at my early pages. For clear, simple instruction on scrapbooking basics, this book can't be beat!

Practical and easy to read.......2007-03-11
Many sales managers I know are some of the hardest working people on earth. They don't have time to read theory and work over months or years to apply it.
This book gives a good, practical approach which can be used immediately - invaluable to newly promoted sales managers or veterans. It's the type of book which lets you read a chapter at lunch then use the idea that afternoon!
Miller's approach offers insight and forthright advice on the keys to success in managing sales people.
soup to nuts, but very rudimentary.......2007-02-26
Has chapters for the entire Sales Manager life cycle, from vision/culture to interviewing/hiring, to corrective action. Very basic and rudimentary rather than theoretical such as you'd find in sales management course texts. Maybe this is all that's necessary to gain the big picture rather than dealing with various minutia.
Practical Tools With A Mission.......2006-10-08
'ProActive Sales Management' is packed with practical tools for business executives to drive sales organization in a proactive manner. Miller has coherently illustrated how these tools fit together & help sales organizations to achieve the mission of proactively capture business opportunities; more importantly, he also shows managers how to gain better control of their life while achieving business goals.
A needed concept and training course in sales management.......2006-10-01

Highly Recommended !.......2005-02-24
This book by William "Skip" Miller, a sales veteran and experienced trainer of sales managers, provides a wealth of information and guidance. Experienced sales managers will find it useful and new sales managers will find it indispensable. Miller covers cultural change, goal setting, recruitment, hiring, firing and more. He pays plenty of attention to day-to-day management, albeit in the context of his "ProActive" sales management program. Use this short, expansive manual as a handbook. For example, when you need to recruit, hire or terminate someone, consult the appropriate chapter. The book is easy to read and full of common sense. We recommend it highly to its target audience: sales managers.
