    Book Description

One of the most important building blocks of design is color -- but getting the color right is also one of design's biggest challenges. In the wake of new technologies such as improved computer monitors, digital photography, and digital printing, ironically, the complexity of color management has increased rather than diminished.

This practical and comprehensive book offers a troubleshooting guide designers can turn to for answers about all aspects and every step of color use and management. This book begins with the basic of color theory and move methodically through the design process, covering everything from choosing color combinations and executing management techniques to designing with color on the Web and printing with optimal results.

        Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

        5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

American Splendor is the series that sparked a revolution in comics and brought graphic novels to the attention of post-adolescent readers everywhere. Here is the best of American Splendor and other comics by Harvey Pekar, including never-before-seen material.

5 out of 5 stars The New American Splendor Anthology.......2007-05-15

If you can't love Harvey Pekar, you can't love anyone. He is a lovely man, with as many neuroses as the rest of us, who listens and watches and reports on the people and world around him. His kindness and caring for the people who populate his world - these are real stories with real people Harvey knows, including his family- is obvious and makes reading his work a delight. I found the Pekar books to be like peanuts - I kept wanting more and more and hate to finish one - unless I have another ready to read. Harvey's 'comics" are the first graphic novels I've spent time reading, and I am hooked. The drawings add immeasurably to the story - a format I would like to see developed further in the future.

5 out of 5 stars More interesting than it has a right to be!.......2004-12-17

Seinfeld, a show about nothing? Pbbbb. Never thought it was that special. Heard about this guy named Harvey Pekar who writes comics about well, nothing. Not nothing really but ordinary, mundane everyday things. Saw the movie, liked it, picked up the Anthology at the library. Hooked. Want more. More. The first friggin' page had me hooked, the old fella telling Harvey about the rag peddlers cry. 'PAAAY-PER REGGS'. The thing is I don't think Harvey needs every dollar now. Between the movie and his work being reissued and the new found interest in him and his comics, he's probably laughing, or brooding, all the way to the bank. Good for you Harvey Pekar!

5 out of 5 stars Please welcome back Harvey Pekar.......2004-01-29

This is the second American Splendor Anthology. It features material that was written after the first Anthology came out, plus some older stuff that was left out of the first book. If you like Harvey Pekar's stuff, you will love this book. For people who became interested in Harvey because of the movie based on his life, you will be interested to find the comics based on his David Letterman appearances here. Also, Toby and the "Revenge of the Nerds" story is featured here. For Harvey's hardcore fans, there are some rarities here, such as pre-American Splendor comics from the early '70s, and Harvey's Forwards to other people's books. Buy this book, Harvey can use the money.

5 out of 5 stars Pekar in the 1980's.......2003-09-16

This is another great collection of Harvey Pekar's AMERICAN SPLENDOR "comics". These are some of his later ones, from the mid 1980's up until 1991. They include his stories on his Letterman appearances.

If you've read the movie tie-in collection and have become a Harvey Pekar fan, this is the best collection to pick up next.

5 out of 5 stars From Off The Streets Of Cleveland Comes..........2002-01-05

This comprehensive collection of American Splendor autobiographical comics by Harvey Pekar features the artwork of many prominent underground comic artists, including Jim Woodring, Joe Zabel, Gerry Shamray, Chester Brown, Spain, Drew Friedman, and R Crumb. But Pekar is truly the dominant force here. Whether he is trading records, arguing with people at work, getting sick, or losing the library's copy of "Confessions of Zeno," you'll get right inside his head as he muses, worries, broods and gets [angry] at the people in front of him in line. Strong stuff with a hard edge of realism.
Compiled from the American Splendor comic books published in the 70's and 80's (which are now largely unavailable), this is highly recommended for those who dig underground comics, new forms of biography or jazz (Pekar is also a renowned jazz reviewer and writer who sometimes talks about music in his comics).
This is not a psychedlic "head" comic, and it does not try to be hip. Harvey is no hippy, he's his own person. There is some social commentary in there too.

          1 out of 5 stars "Academia" at it's worst..........2004-04-15

Being a Disney nut, I'll read just about anything that talks about the Disney corporation and culture. I found Understanding Disney at the library and eagerly picked it up. What a waste...

I should have been clued in on page 5 with this statement: "The continued expansion and popularity of the Disney empire calls for the deliberate integration of political economic analysis with insights drawn from cultural analysis and audience studies or reception analysis, or, in other words, analysis emphasizing the economic as well as the ideological, or production as well as consumption."

          Huh?

She teaches a class at the University of Oregon on this stuff. Very academic and abstract, and too much so for my liking. While there were some interesting factoids about Walt's true history vs. the story told by Disney, she went into pure academia all too often. An example, labeled "Psychoanalysis And Pinocchio": "Brody observes the anal images and incorporation themes have been common in Disney tales, citing examples from The Three Little Pigs and Peter Pan. Anal images, especially featuring the "often-kick-in-the-butt" Jiminy Cricket, are a rampant in Pinocchio as images of erection (Pinocchio's nose, the donkey ears), and incorporation is appearnt in the scenes of Pinocchio and Gepetto in the whale's stomach."

Please!!!! You have *got* to be kidding me... She even covers Marxist analysis and the imperialist Disney. And kids pay to take this class?

3 out of 5 stars Wasko is a bit verbose.......2003-06-04

I have to agree with another reviewer. The text can be tedious and annoying while not conveying any information. Her many references to "which I will discuss in chapter (x)..." is so common it becomes a joke in her writing. While the text can be informative at times her writing style tends to be annoying and pretentious. It's reminiscent of a speaker who spends all their time telling you what they are going to tell you, that they dont really have that much to say in the end.

5 out of 5 stars the best book I have ever read about Disney.......2003-01-02

I have read many books on Disney. This book gives you all the details you want. It tells about the fun and interesting facts you want to know about disney. This book is a must. I have two of them just incase something happens to one of them.

3 out of 5 stars Some things are just unnecessary..........2002-03-23

While the book is very interesting the author's constant use of phrases such as "which I'll discuss later in chapter x", "which we talked about in chapter x" was extremely distracting. She seemed to use this phrase at least once a page. Maybe she was just trying to make the book longer - who knows.

            Book Description

"Saint Beethoven!. . . . He was clad in somewhat untidy houseclothes, with a red woolen scarf wrapped round his waist; long, bushy grey hair hung in disorder from his head, and his gloomy, forbidding expression by no means tended to reassure. . . ."

When Wagner published the first collection of his writings he was pleased to admit how well he wrote, even when young. Historians and musicians ever since have agreed that some of his most important and revelatory works were written when he was first establishing his reputation in Paris and Dresden. Pilgrimage to Beethoven and Other Essays provides translations of the first two volumes of his Gesammelte Schriften (1871-1873). These works reveal how committed he was to emphasizing Germanic qualities in his music and define his opposition to the music of France and Italy.

In addition to his influential essay on Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, this volume includes two early essays on Germanic myth—"The Wibelungen" and "The Nibelungen-Myth"—his homages to Carl Maria von Weber, and the complete text of his autobiographical A German Musician in Paris, with its famous "Pilgrimage to Beethoven."

The volume concludes with his "Plan of Organisation of a German National Theatre" (1849), founded upon Beethoven's moral music. Listeners "inspired by Beethoven's music have been more active and energetic citizens-of-State than those bewitched by Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti." Throughout these essays, as throughout his life, Wagner knew how to provoke.

This edition includes the complete volume 7 of the 1898 translation commissioned by the London Wagner Society.

            Book Description

The Slav has been played by 11 of the first 13 World Champions, and has been favored by many stars of modern chess, including Anand, Kramnik, Shirov, Ivanchuk, and Morozevich. Its great popularity is due to its extreme solidity and abundant possibilities for dynamic counterplay. This book provides detailed coverage to help players as both White and Black face the challenges of this tough yet rewarding opening. All lines after 1 d4 d5 2 c4 c6 are discussed, except those that transpose to the Semi-Slav. The sharpest tactical lines of the Slav receive especially detailed coverage. These include the critical piece sacrifice in the main line (5...Bf5 6 Ne5 e6 7 f3 Bb4 8 e4 Bxe4), the Steiner line (5...Bg4) with 6 Ne5 Bh5 7 h3, and the possibly dubious, but highly dangerous Geller Gambit (5 e4), which was a favorite of the young Kasparov. The trendy ...a6 lines are also covered systematically for the first time in chess literature.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book.......2006-09-16

I read realitycheckmate's review and have to say that I completely disagree, after all, look at how many people who gave the book 5 stars? Burgess demonstrates easily that a player does not need to be a GM to write an informative, easy-to-read book that's bursting with new variations.

I've been playing the Slav when I was 1400 and now I'm 2100 and this book has been my best friend in those years (it's only been 4!).

This book provides detailed and easily-sufficient coverage (there are tonnes of alternatives to choose from) to help players as both White and Black (although I would recommend it more for the Black side) face the challenges of this tough yet rewarding opening. All lines after 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 are discussed (except the Semi-Slav), which is excellent work considering how much analysis the author had to sift through (this book is definitely not a database dump). The sharpest tactical lines of the Slav like the piece sacrifice in 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Nf3 dxc4 5.a4 Bf5 6 Ne5 e6 7 f3 Bb4 8 e4 Bxe4.

Burgess is a highly versatile chess writer. I have NCO and The World's Greatest Chess Games and I have to admit that Burgess (though only a co-author) has done a great job on them as well.

5 out of 5 stars reliable coverage of a fighting opening .......2006-03-23

I've noticed that the Slav defense is popular amongst many of the top young Russian players, which says a lot about the fighting qualities of this opening. I've been playing it for years.
As a sound, solid defense which you can still use to play for win with, you can't fault it really.
Burgess does a good job of presenting the material; useful variations and sensible commentary, with reliable and checked assessments, standard Gambit fare really.
I guess my main problem with the Slav is that it is no longer such a surprise weapon. I saw a review somewhere (Donaldson perhaps? His reviews are usully good value) that praised the new QGA repertoire book by Rizzitano. So I might test out that one just to keep opponents guessing.

2 out of 5 stars OK for a reference book. Not a good first book on the Slav........2004-12-22

I been playing the Slav for a couple of years and have worked through Matthew Sadler's excellent book. I purchased this book to continue my studies. I find that it is not well laid out. Actually, if you are trying to learn to play the Slav, the introduction is the best part of the book. I have been able to pick through and study-up on the lines I try to play, but this is more of a reference book, not a text book on the Slav. If you are trying to learn the opening, buy Sadler's book. If you already know what you are doing and just want to go deeper into some variations, (notably the exchange variation and the ...a6 Slav) then you might get some use out of the book. Otherwise, your money is better spent elsewhere.

3 out of 5 stars Explanations thin, layout hard to reference.......2004-01-26

            .
There is too much grade inflation in these Amazon review ratings of chess books, with most getting the maximum 5 stars. 3 stars means average. What does this book have to earn being rated better than other opening books?: nothing.

The moves recommended in this book are fine. But any opening book would achieve that. To be above average, an opening book must explain the ideas and effects of every pre-middlegame move. Burgess' explanations are thin and minimal. Most other opening books have at least this much explanation, though frustratingly few make the effort to give more. Only a textless Informant would have sparser explanations.

Example 1: "5...Bf5!? 6 Qb3 Nxd5 may well be an interesting alternative, but there's no need for this"

Other examples include lines being assessed a simply "pleasant" or "unpleasant" for Black: gotta love that deep middlegame forethought.

            Example 2: "b23) 8...e6 9 g4 (9 Qb3 should probably be preferred, even though 9... Nxe5 10 dxe5 Nd7 11 Qxb7 Rb8 12 Qxa6 Rxb2 looks satisfactory for Black)"

Example 3 (showing this book at its rare best, explanatory text writing about 4...a6 at the beginning of a chapter, -- means text bypassed): "This little move has several ideas. Most obviously, Black prepares ...b5, which grabs some space and also forces White to act on the queenside, which often stabilizes that part of the board, or else give Black counterplay. Black also prepares to develop his queen's bishop, since after ...a6 (and possibly ...b5), White's attack on b7 (by Qb3) has less sting. -- Also, by waiting for a move, Black makes it easier for him to determine where to put his queen's bishop: if White plays e3, then ...Bg4 -- One further point is that Black's idea of ...dxc4 is now slightly more of a threat --".

Another reviewer wrote this book gave him a good post-opening position against a GM, but that he proceeded to lose due to flawed middlegame moves. A good opening book discusses the relationship between its particular opening and the middlegame themes likely to arise. This book lacks such depth of discussion, and thus seems terribly average to me.

This book's layout makes it hard/time consuming to find a specific variation. Reading through long pages of text looking for section "f22)" or "b)223" is ridiculous. Scientists and accountants would do not present their data this way, for good reason. Tables of variations are the clearest way to index and organize variations. Plus there are numerous unnumbered variations in the textual analysis - good luck referencing those. Tables and text are not in conflict, they compliment each other.
There is a clunky Index of Variations in the back of the book. But it is incomplete at merely 1 sheet in size, and its layout is a tedious eyesore. It is a poor substitute for proper tables.

Opening books do best when they focus on playing just White or Black. When I am playing as Black in a given position, I do not need 6 moves to choose from, when 2-3 are clearly better than the other 3-4 alternatives. Covering 6 just adds noise when studying to play as Black, and takes space and depth from other discussions.

This book says nothing about the endgames likely to arise from the Slav. No full games are given, so no relationships between the opening and ending are traced or discussed. Nor does this book have any organization around the stable pawn structures likely to arise in the Slav.

            5 out of 5 stars A Good, Reliable Opening.......2003-12-03

I like this book. The material is pretty up-to-date. Of course, the Slav can get kind of boring if White is unambitious; therefore, some people avoid it as Black. Nevertheless, it is as solid a defense to 1.d4 as one can imagine. It's great to play against stronger opponents, or if you don't mind the drawishness of the Exchange variation.

The author is reliable and a credit to the good name of Gambit Books.

5 out of 5 stars Great for Learning PM Software.......2007-04-05

I am not a PM, but had to do some work juggling data in MS Project and SureTrak. Their manuals and help pages were useful, but confusing. Lewis' book helped cut through the tangle of jargon, and explained the simple math underneath the software. Especially useful were the exercises explaining how ES, EF, LS, and LF were calculated, and how resource leveling was performed. (I focused on that section, and got my money's worth right there.)

This book won't be enough for PMs, but for managers and others working in a project-oriented organization, and using PM software, this is an excellent, concise, well written guide.

4 out of 5 stars Project Management Books.......2007-03-15

This is an excellent book if you are looking for well written, sound advice on Project Management and what being a Project Manager is all about. The author used humor and very mild sarcasm in alot of the sections, which makes the book alot more entertaining and easier to read than most dry books of this nature, and serve as 'memory-hooks' to help you remember the message intended by that text. I would highly recommend this book.

3 out of 5 stars An "OK" reference.......2007-01-04

This was a required book for my doctorate. However, I never used it... the material just wasn't pertinent to what I was doing. It is fairly simplistic with common sense thrown in. Unless it is required, I would not bother buying this book.

5 out of 5 stars Very usefull book, not only for beginners.......2006-11-06

Although I have several years experience in Project Management, I took this book because of good reviews and because I somehow wanted to consolidate what I have learn in practice.
This book was exactly what I needed. Very concise, without loosing a point. I most liked the author's idea to make a project out of this book when describing importance of planning. And I can say he did it - the book is well organized, explains everything you need to know, and also offers a good references for further reading. Of course, don't expect to be world class manager after reading 200-pages book, but you can be sure that you will get very structured baseline for managing projects after reading this. For sure worth of reading.

4 out of 5 stars A brief and accessible introduction to a huge field..........2006-08-21

Anyone wanting to get a foothold on the burgeoning field of project management can easily begin with this small book. Its clear and untechnical language flows effortlessly through ten accessible chapters. The author mixes real life anecdotes with the inevitable dump truck full of jargon. This helps pick up the pace considerably (anyone who has read books on project management knows their entertainment value). Also, various aphorisms of project management wisdom dot the margins, including a memorable one from Charlie Brown: "No problem is so big or complicated that it can't be run away from". Most, however, spill good advice for newcomers or seasoned managers seeking a refresh, such as "No plan, no control!"; "Rule: The people who must do the work should participate in developing the plan"; "The WBS is a good way to portray the scope of a project"; "An exact estimate is an oxymoron"; "Project Management is not just scheduling"; "A negative message always takes priority over a positive one"; "Process reviews conducted as witch-hunts will produce witches". One of the book's final quotes recommends that project managers watch the movie "Stand and Deliver" (the one from 1988 directed by Ramon Menendez) for a good example of leadership. This book really covers a lot of ground in some 133 pages.

Readers completely unfamiliar with project management will learn about such things as work breakdown structures, the difference between a mission, a vision, and an objective, project control, earned value analysis, and the ever elusive nature of the work estimate. These tools will help anyone get a handle on managing a small to a medium sized project (for a large project do more reading; much more reading).

Earned value analysis might have been too heavy of a subject for an introductory text. The author throws rather esoteric terms and acronyms at newcomers without providing a framework for real world application. Unfortunately, the discussion remains rather academic and probably not too useful.

The author does give a great rundown of network diagrams and their uses. No one should come out of this book without a clear understanding of early finish, late finish, early start, and late start. Readers who do should read it again. Also, the pages on critical path analysis effectively illuminate this bugbear concept.

The book doesn't end with simple concepts and jargon. An entire section on managing project teams closes the book. Many longer books ignore the psychology and human resources aspects of project management, so it's suprising to see this subject broached in a book of this length.

Of course no book attains supernatural perfection. As good as this book is, one thing missing from it is a case study that runs through all of the chapters. Many of the concepts get treated in the abstract and left there. The earned value analysis chapter suffers greatly from this lacuna. Some step by step applications of the concepts would improve comprehension for absolute newcomers. Plus, the book's brevity runs the risk of not providing enough granularity for retention. Some of the chapters fly by really quick, along with many of the definitions. After a constant shower of concepts readers may grow dizzy in the new world of project management and find that none of the book stuck to their neurons. But the "Key Points to Remember" included at the end of each chapter do help.

Those who need just a glance of this huge field can probably stop reading here. But those continuing on to manage projects of considerable complexity have to read more detailed books. This one will by no means give potential project managers all that they need. It serves best as a ten thousand foot view of the field or as a reiteration of basic concepts. So don't rely on it alone. Nonetheless, the book succeeds admirably in what it sets out to do: lay out the fundamentals of project management in an accessible way for general readers.
