Buy if u know about drawing.......2005-10-10
I found the explinations rather vague.... the book doesn't really explain too well the form in which you have to draw, its good at teaching technique materials requires and stuff, but if you don't already know how to draw its a little hard to learn how to draw good anime from it. I didn't get much from this book... it doesn't give much explination in the actualy WAY you need to draw the head and body. And it gave absolutley no teaching on how to draw the eyes... which is an essential part of the anime style drawing, maybe its to get you to buy the other books??
Book Description
For people who want to start drawing manga, this book gives a good overall picture of what is required. First, one learns what drawing tools are needed, then how to use them, how to draw characters, and fill in the tones. From there, one learns how to make it all look manga-like, and how to handle backgrounds. It's all here in a this single volume.

This Book Is AWESOME!.......2006-06-26
This book was a great guide for me and i just started making manga. the book is easy to read and i finished it in 3 days. the only thing i had trouble with was finding the pens, so i ordered the deluxe kit, that brought the special editon of how to draw manga, tone sheets, manga mastering tools, pen nibs, and pen bodies! Now I can draw good manga!
For those who wants to make a Manga.......2004-11-23
Just as it says, this book is for the artist "Getting Started" but it should include "...in drawing your own manga". If you are only interested in drawing manga/anime style only, then this book would stray into manga creation that you'll find basically unhelpful and useless. For the aspiring manga-ka, this is a great start and much more comprehensive than some other like books.
What I find interesting and quite useful in this book is that besides being seperated per chapter, it is further broken down into topics - 60 in total - with each pointing out something specific. There are several chapters which also have a summary of sorts compiled as a Q&A section with further tips and info.
All in all, this book touches upon everything and doesn't go in-depth into anything except manga making in general. This is a good book to get your feet wet but I would recommend you pick up editions that focus on one topic comprehensively such as HTDM Putting Thing in Perspective if you're serious about manga creation.
An ok look into drawing manga.......2004-07-26
This book is an ok start to help you get ready with drawing manga. While it is not really for a basic beginner with no knowledge of drawing it is essential for people who have or know a little about drawing. It is not really a nessecity for one to know how to draw but get the basics of drawing in perspective. This book utilizes the fact that you are a person who has seen enough manga or has seen enough drawings to want to get started and shows in it's pages tips and skills about what is needed to how to draw basic figures. While most people with absolutly no background in anime/manga may find it difficult to pick up this style it is easier for those who have been immersed in it for a bit and wanting to know how they are drawn or how to get started. While I admit this book isn't for everyone, I would recommend this book to people who feel they are ready to start learning about the basic steps to drawing their first characters.
Not really good for beginners.......2004-04-14
This book is not really a manga getting started book. I don't feel that it explains enough for amateurs; it doesn't have a step by step or enough explanations. This book could maybe help some of those that already got through the amateur phase, but if you're really a beginner I wouldn't recomend it. (...)Maybe after you have mastered everything in these web pages you could buy it.
This book was a total waste of money!.......2004-03-09
This book sucks! It should not be labeled "How to draw Manga" because it doesn't teach you how to draw anything. I am no a manga artist but I would like to get started and I thought I would get this book because it was called "Getting started". I would not recomend this book to anyone. If I could, I would give this book no stars.

There are moments in history where events converge to create something rare and special. Jacqueline Kennedy's selection of Oleg Cassini to design her personal wardrobe as First Lady was one of those moments, not only in fashion history, but political history as well. As creator of the "Jackie look," Cassini made the First Lady one of the best-dressed women in the world and a glamourous icon of the Kennedy era.
During the thousand days of the Kennedy administration, Cassini designed over 300 outfits for Jackie Kennedy--coats, dresses, evening gowns, suits, and day wear. He coordinated every aspect of her wardrobe, from shoes and hats to gloves and handbags.
For the first time, Oleg Cassini offers a fascinating and comprehensive view of his role as Jackie's personal couturier. His international background allowed him to fit comfortably into the Kennedy poltical dynasty, and offered him unprecedented access to both Jackie and John Kennedy as a designer and a trusted friend. From the details of his long-standing friendship with the Kennedy family to his first meetings with the First lady to his thoughts on Jackie's clothes and their legacy, Cassini's recollections are far-ranging and informative.
Cassini's original sketches are accompanied by 200 color and black-and-white photographs of the First Lady as she tours India, France, England, and Italy, shows off the White House, and hosts state dinners and family gatherings. Public moments as well as private ones capture the great elegance and charm of one of the most admired and emulated women in the world.
Customer Reviews:
I am a huge fan of Jackie Kennedy.......2007-05-25
I love reading and learning about Jackie Kennedy and feel she is the personification of elegance, class and grace. She was the EPITOME OF STYLE. For anyone that is an admirer of hers you won't be disappointed with this picture book (except I wish more photos had been in color so we could see her clothes in their natural hue). But it is evident Mr. Cassini is a very talented designer and Jackie was the ultimate subject. It is very easy to see why the world was obsessed with what she was wearing and how her style has influenced fashion for years on end. Great coffee table book.
Camelot - A Brief Shining Moment.......2007-01-11
I have always admired Jackie Kennedy for her style, grace and elegance. Therefore, Oleg Cassini's informative and illustrative book about the dresses he had designed exclusively for Jackie whilst being First Lady of America truly delighted me.
Her reign (sadly) of a thousand days of "magic" was all too short for our mere mortals. A great coffee book table, I will always treausre it.
FASHION ICON.......2006-01-14
This is the BEST by far on Jackie Kennedy's simple but elegant fashion style. Oleg Cassini was personally selected by Jackie to design many of her outfits during her time as first lady. This book includes not only Cassini's finished articles of clothing, but also the original sketches he used in designing the clothes. On many pages he includes personal notes of thank you from Mrs. Kennedy, as well as requests for specific gowns or other items for special occasions. Not only was Jackie a fashion statement, she set the stage for years to come in the fashion industry! Oleg Cassini is a magnificent and world-renowned fashion designer, and will no doubt be long remembered for his fashion creations for Jackie Kennedy! The photos are stunning, and beautiful as ever...portraying Mrs. Kennedy all over the world wearing his designs. If you are a Jackie Kennedy admirer, Oleg Cassini follower, or a Fashion History buff; this is a remarkable book to add to your collection...more than worth the price!
An Exquisite Book Capturing an Exquisite Woman.......2004-04-26
I bought this book in 1995 when it first came out, it has held up beautifully, and is one of my all time favorite books about Jackie.
A large, coffee table book that is filled with exquisite photos from Jackie's wedding day to President Kennedy through her time as First Lady, and her later years.
Jackie has always been one of my favorite role models, and Oleg Cassini did one fantastic job in showing the sketches of clothing illustrations, as well as when and where Jackie wore them. He gives wonderful and detailed paragraphs of information that are respectful of Jackie. The book also has clear copies of the many letters of gratitude Jackie has written, as well as the many activities she was involved in.
It is a true and dignified portrait of Jackie's greatest 1,000 days, and is a timeless treasure, showing the class, dignity, heart, and soul of a woman who will forever remain eternal.
HIGHLY Recommended for the beautiful and dignified manner with which it is presented.
Top Jackie Fashion Book !.......2001-09-25
As far as I am concerned this is THE top book about Jackie's Fashions and I have either read, bought, or extensively reviewed all of them. This big coffee table book written by Oleg Cassini contains more information, better pictures and sketches than any other book about Jackie's fashions. In fact,I would say in some ways it is almost a biography of Jackie albeit a heavily illustrated one. Do not let the new influx of books about Jackie's fashions deter you from buying this book. The new books that came out around the time of the exhibit of her fashions at the Met are all ok . And Hamish Bowles book about the exhibit was the best of the three released during this timeframe. However none of these books match the lushness of Cassini's book!

Garfield’s not just surviving, he’s thriving. The always fashionable fat cat has evolved over the years, but one thing hasn’t changed — his voracious appetite for food and fun. That’s what makes this all-new smorgasboard of comics a natural selection for hungry fans of the world’s most famished feline.
Customer Reviews:
This Garfield fan isn't disappointed one bit..........2006-04-25
Yes, I'm a Garfield fan, and I have never once been disappointed by a Garfield book. Not once, ever.
I like the new "full-color format" which (strangely enough) fits better on my shelves than the old "Garfield format" versions. I may have to get the full-color Fat Cat 3-pack with the first 3 books, just to see what I was missing.
I absolutely love the Garfield outtakes. Jim Davis, if you're listening, put more of these in the next books, or do an entire book on these wonderful, great outtakes!
I also wish he'd also put out some US Acres merchandise once in awhile. Orson the Pig is just so funny in the series. He sounds WAY too much like a piggy Jon Arbuckle (i apologize for any terrible mental images).
My name is BJ Wanlund. I have creative powers, but I can't draw to save my soul.
Very good read for fans of the fat cat!!!.......2005-08-08
This is a good Garfield read, and the cartooning is great. But, the only problemm is, the jokes ain't that funny, and I do have to agree with... emergency chick 67(???) that the jokes are running a bit dry. The only "laughs" I got were a few chuckles, and the series is running a bit low on funniness. All in all, I'll give this book four stars, but I'm a bit anxious about the strips in the next book, Older and Wider...
Really Funny.......2004-12-28
Okay, I think this is a funny book, but a let-down compared to some of Jim Davis's earlier books. In spite of this, it is still funny, and still gets 5 stars.
I like the comics dealing with Mrs. Feeny, and the ones dealing with Jon's Mom. I would like to see what Mrs. Feeny actually looks like, however.
Still funny, still entertaining, and cat's do not live to their 20's but it is a COMIC STRIP. A very good one compared to some of the unfunny crap in newspapers these days.
Scathing Underworld.......2004-11-12
This is a coming of age tale stupped in the lesser known nuances of the Comumbian drug cartel. Garfield grows older and wiser as he unabashedly experiments with mind expanding drugs. Plus there's a ton of nudity.
If You're Hungry For Garfield, This Is A Satisfying Treat.......2004-07-05
I can never get enough of Garfield's sarcastic humor, so I love to sit down with a book like this and read six months of strips in one single sitting.
This, his 40th book, covers the strips from June-December of 2001 with a few outrageous outtakes in which you won't recognize Garfield before he took on his present form.
My favorites are always the ones with Nermal, but his neighbor Mrs. Feeny also gets her share of torture from the tubby tabby and his antics with Jon and Odie take center stage. When it comes to cats, fat is where it's at and nobody does fat better than Garfield in a smorgasboord of full-color strips to make you laugh the day away.

Boredom begone cure!.......2007-04-29
Always with things popping up, this web comic has always entertained me. Some are just a giggles while others make you wanna laugh out loud. I love keenspot comics, I've been reading them for about 5 years now. Sinfest is one of my favorites of all time. Just how the characters interact is so priceless and well thought out. How the random stuff can turn into a delightful story line. You won't find this at your local book store. Fun for the whole family(if you like corrupting your children that is).
a book for the best web comic.......2005-11-13
Sinfest is the best web-only comic I've read. I've been reading Sinfest since 2002 and I'm surprised that it's still not syndicated.
This book contains comics from 2000 and 2001. Tatsuya Ishida's art has improved since then, but even his older material is good. The Sinfest comics are all online, so you can check it out and decide for yourself if you like it before you buy.
Expensive.......2005-04-05
Quality comic, which I highly recommend. However, you can purchase the books for only $15 on the author's cafepress.com page. He has a link to it on sinfest.net.
Way. Too. Funny!.......2004-06-17
I stumbled onto Sinfest at the Keenspot site while browsing the offerings there, and immediately had to go back and read from the first strip. Sinfest is a guilty pleasure; you know it's naughty, but you can't help it.
I like that Mr. Ishida gives God equal billing, and the characters interact with God (and the Devil) in a way that I think a lot of people do--asking frank questions, trying to understand the way things go in life.
The art style is crisp and the subject matter is wickedly sharp--not to mention very, very funny.
The best unsyndicated comic strip.......2004-04-15
Sinfest is quite frankly, THE best unsyndicated comic strip out there. As another reviewer said, it's risque nature-while making it frank and funnier-works against it when it comes to getting syndication. But the quality of the comic strip is superb, surpassing a good deal of the syndicated strips.
Ishida's huge back-archive of comics is also delightful as it allows newcomers access to so many good comics. So buy this book and support this strip's continuation.

Book Description
Enter the world of Johann Sebastian Bach through this illuminating collection of readings. The New Bach Reader reveals the life and career of Bach through hundreds of letters, family papers, anecdotes, and records relating to his personal and professional life. The original Bach Reader, edited by the late Hans T. David and Arthur Mendel in 1945, established a new approach to biography by offering original documents in impeccable translations. In The New Bach Reader, Christoph Wolff of Harvard University has incorporated numerous facsimiles and added many newly discovered items. Taken together, the readings in this volume provide music lovers with a fascinating, almost firsthand account of the composer and his environment.

THE SUPREME BACH in his own words and thoughts!.......2000-08-10
All worshippers of JS Bach need to acquire this informative and satisfying journal dedicated to the absolutely most profoundly sublime genious in all of music. If having all of Bach's masterworks in your CD collection wasn't enough...you need to add this book for further intellectual stimulation because here Bach is presented in his OWN WORDS! Every example of written coorespondence by Bach and his contemporaries concerning him has been preserved and translated from the hand of Bach's penmanship and presented to the reader. As a result, we can glimpse into another facet of the mind behind the music. Although most of the letters were written to either one offical or another (and therefore embellished with the standard nomenclatures of the time), I was able to detect exasperation, sarcasm, fearlessness, austerity, humor, ridicule and sorrow in much of them. In the vast majority of the wordy, complex style of his coorespondence we begin to see that Bach composed his complaints in much the same vein he composed fugues; lavish phrases, requests and expostulations are intertwined in the most respectful manner to his superiors...and simultaneuosly he projects an attitude that if his needs are not met he will resort to higher means...usually meaning petitioning the King himself (which on one occasion he ultimately did!) His complaints ranged from objectional wages, unruly choirboys, the relegations of authority, and his delinquent son (in which the debtors were now pestoring Bach to compensate). It is true that not many personal references by Bach have come down to us, but there are a few morsels for us to dwell on; his declining a gift from a cousin stating that the tax required was much to high for the parcel itself, he mentions with regret a flask of wine that broke open (accidentally?) while on route in the mail and spilled out, and how not too many people were dying...so unfortunately he wasnt making out too well on funeral music composition. We begin to see that apart from his unsurpassable genious and intellect, he was very much a normal person...even a bit dull. He certainly had a dry sense of humor and had absolutely zero tolerance for people he thought were using him...and for those he thought were not taking him seriously. The is one instance where he got into a street fight at the marketplace, another instance where he was reprimanded for introducing "strange sounds and alterations in the harmonic structure" during mass at the organ (the buddings of his genious). He was interrogated for bringing a "strange maiden" up to the organ loft with him. He even spent some time in jail for being too stubborn when his leave was denied (he was looking for better work and his employers refused to let him go). He was reprimanded for overstaying leave time on another occasion (by like 2 months!) hanging out in Lubeck to see Buxtehude play. He had no qualms whatsoever in disqualifying students from his instruction if they showed any from of recalcitrance or inept musical talent. Buy this book! You can read all about these things and more from the REAL letters! There is plenty of praise and accolades to go along with it, both by his contemporaries and posthumurous composers. Read about Mendelsohn's debut of the St Matthew's Passion (100 years after Bach performed it last) written by the tenor who sang Christ's lines in the score during that performance! Look at the replicated facsimilies of Bach's letters in his own hand! The book is full of paintings of Bach...in all stages of his career. Read his letters and get some insight into the turmoil and altercations, of the humor and sarcasm of the greatest genious of music this world has ever known. His music is immortal and nothing can even come close; not even the greatest works of Mozart or Beethoven can overshadow the universal sublimity and unsurpassed ecstasy the world can find the the music of the Almighty Johann Sebastian Bach.
What an incredible resource.......2000-04-28
I have been studying this book for the last 2 months. The amount of information that is in this book, and not many others, is incredible. Actual letters from JS Bach showing how he feels. Descriptions of performances that were only available from PhD's in the past are available to you in this publication.
On the subject of J.S. Bach, this is one of the best resources I have found.

Revisit a classic D&D adventure, now expanded and updated!
Expedition to Castle Ravenloft is a 224-page D&D adventure that harkens back to classic 1st-edition adventure, Ravenloft. This adventure expands on the original adventure, introduces some never-before-seen threats. It also features a new encounter format designed to make running the adventure easier for the Dungeon Master. This new layout includes such details as more graphics and readily available stat blocks, both of which can shorten prep time and gameplay.
Customer Reviews:
A HUGE time saver!.......2007-08-19
First off, I must give WTOC a big round of applause for this module format. I typically run home-grown stuff, but with a demanding career I haven't had the time to prepare much in the way of a good game. As a result, we haven't gamed as much as I would like.
With the addition of this adventure to my library I have been able to read this while on a plane, and be prepared to run it when I land. The encounter pages are laid out BEAUTIFULLY, I love the stat blocks, and the maps/visuals are to die for.
I HIGHLY recommend this module for anyone having difficulty finding the time to prepare!
Great Book.......2007-05-20
This is an incredible adventure. Normally I am a little hesitant to buy a pre-made adventure, but this one is worth every cent. The new format in this book is a very handy feature, providing everything you need to know about the encounter in two pages. Wonderful formatting and maps. This is such a customizable adventure that it fits anywhere. It is reccomended that you buy Three Dragon Ante (Dungeon & Dragons) as well, because there is one part that these could be used. If you don't want to buy this, ordinary playing cards work just as well.
From the story aspect, this has an interesting plot. The adventure can be played multiple times with PCs finding out more things every time.
I look forward to more Expedition books!
Not as much atmosphere as the original adventure but a nice 3.5 adaptation.......2007-05-19
This is a very good adventure. It does not rival the original in terms of atmosphere but is a really nice 3.5 adaptation, with lots of new material also.
It is a much better work than the first revision of the original Ravenloft (House of Strahd for the 2nd Edition).
My only complain with this book is that it does not contain a full map of the Castle as in the original and the earlier version. Since this book even mentions that one of the groundbreaking features in the original Ravenloft was the classic Castle Ravenloft map, I would expect that it would contain a full two-page map of the Castle. It does not, though. It only contains small maps of each level, so you never get to see the Castle in all its glory. For me, it does not present a great problem since I own both the original Ravenloft and House of Strahd, but I would expect that it detracts from the adventure for people who only have this book.
Other than that, it is really surprisingly good.
It won't get 5 stars, in my opinion, because of the map issue.
Good story, poor layout.......2007-05-18
The overall story and possibilities of game play are tremendous in this book, however actually using the encounters is extremely difficult. First, there are monsters from various sources. It would have been nice if the book told you which books they came from. This also includes feats and prestige classes. Next, the encounters are hard to follow. You have to flip back and forth between the area description and the encounter descriptions which could be 20 pages apart. Also, the maps do not flow well. It is often hard to figure out where a character ends up when they go up or down a stairwell. The maps are not clear. A large poster map would have been much better. For running the adventure, the book is rather mediocre, but for future or outside stories and the feel of the original, it does a pretty decent job. There should have been a better description of taint and depravity, as it would be a great addition and players and DMs may not have access to or familiarity with the Heroes of Horror supplement.
Awesome.......2007-04-18
An amazing book. I'm a beginning DM and it lays everything out for you in the new encounter format pretty much as straightforward as possible. Here are the stat blocks for the monsters, here are their places in the encounter, here is how they act. Also very handy that they provide useful information about how to adapt the game to span any desirable length between a one-shot Halloween adventure to an entire full-blown campaign. If you like horror movies or halloween you will love this adventure. It's got everything you want in terms of zombies, witches, werewolves and of course, vampires.

A true Adventure in the tradition of classic role-play........1998-11-20
Of the adventures I've read or played, few short of the original Castle Ravenloft come close to this. Unlike many dungeon-crawling or hack-and-slash adventures, this one has the elements of real role-playing. The NPCs are believable people, and not just backstabbing rednecks. It also encourages good or heroic characters rather than just the -then-and-take-their-gold types. With a mysterious and twisting plot filled with colorful characters and an optional twist on the ending, this is one of the best adventures around. While the other review emphasized that it is too simple, I would argue this point. With a balanced party, it is easy to do as is, and with a more powerful party, it is easy for the dm to manipulate things to make them more difficult. The only thing I would suggest is for the dm to have a few people help him Role-play the major NPCs, this would allow the game to have a much greater influence on the characters. Recommended to all true role-players.
A good, solid intro to the wonderfull "Forgotten Terror"........1998-11-05
This is a good, solid game, though a bit on the short side. I reccomend that you write your own encounters, because the ones in it are super-easy. It's relatively easy to run, except for an optional mini-advenure that takes place in a small, Selune-worshipping town that no ones really heard of. This part was very badly done. This game is a short, fun adventure worth buying. It is also neccisary to play this game before the awsome "Forgotten Terror".

Ravenloft domain boxed set.......2001-03-31
This is a boxed set for 2nd edition D&D's Ravenloft setting detailing the domain of Forlorn. In particular it deals with Castle forlorn and its temporal anomalies. It deals with Goblyns and ghosts, and background history on ravenloft's druids and the magical powers that occasionaly arise in redheaded individuals.
Not the best ravenloft supplement but it does deal with this core domain as it has never been dealt with before or since.
The redheaded individual information is also available in an abbreviated form in the third part of Van Richtens monster hunter's compendium volume three.

Organizational guru Ken Blanchard has long had a knack for writing management books that are easy and fun to read (The One Minute Manager, plus 11 other bestsellers). Now, in his latest, he becomes (with the help of three coauthors) something of a novelist, relating the saga of the Riverbend Warriors, a come-from-behind boys' hockey team, to teach a broader lesson about the importance of, and the key dynamics behind, good teamwork in organizations of every sort.
High Five! starts with otherwise exemplary exec Alan Foster losing his job because--you guessed it--he isn't a team player. Unemployed, bored, and demoralized, he decides to coach his fifth-grade son's failing hockey team into better shape. But it's not until he enlists the help of Miss Weatherby, an aging African-American retired teacher and champion girls' basketball coach that things really start to turn around. As we follow the struggle of the increasingly well-oiled Warriors machine as they drill, strategize, and bond their way through the season, we learn some of the fundamental lessons of what makes good teams--and good team-building by coaches and managers. Among them are "repeated reward and repetition," the guiding notion that "none of us is as smart as all of us," and four key traits that shall here remain undisclosed (hint: their acronym spells PUCK).
As fiction goes, don't expect high literature here. But to its credit, the book's ending isn't 100 percent happy, either. If you worry that the aged but whip-smart Weatherby might die at the end, don't--instead, she becomes perhaps the world's first octogenarian, black female management consultant. As books on teamwork go, Blanchard's latest is on the lighter side, but it still packs a fair share of commonsense wisdom when it comes to putting together, motivating, and sustaining work teams worthy of the Stanley Cup. And it may even have inaugurated a new fiction genre: the organizational tearjerker. --Timothy Murphy
Book Description
High Five! combines the spellbinding charm of a timeless parable with cutting-edge information about why teams are important and what individuals and organizations can do to build successful ones.
Through the story of Alan Foster, a workplace one-man band, High Five! identifies the four key ingredients of winning teams. Although Alan is an effective producer, he is unwilling to share the spotlight by partnering on projects and is fired because, as his boss puts it, "Alan, we need good producers who are good team players, too." It is a bitter pill for him to swallow.
While mulling over his disappointment, he takes his son to his grade-five hockey practice, where it is clear that his son's team, the Riverbend Warriors, knows nothing about teamwork, either. When the team's two overworked coaches learn of Alan's plight, they persuade him to join their ranks, and he finds himself charged with teaching himself and the players the meaning of teamwork. With the help of a woman friend-a former girls' basketball coach who has "won more high school basketball championships than anyone"-Alan and the Warriors learn the magic of teamwork and that "none of us is as smart as all of us."
With its simple style and easy-to-follow techniques, High Five! is a must-read for anyone seeking to learn the value and power of teamwork.

Guidance for managers, educators, and students alike!.......2007-06-30

Wow, what a book!.......2005-04-13
While I have read other Ken Blanchard books, this one truly got my attention and was wonderful. As a student collegiate athelte myself, Blanchard and Bowle's book was easy reading and very easy for me to connect with based on my own experiences. The book allows one to follow a main character that starts off by being fired from his job, then gets involved coaching a young hockey team and calls on a coach he remembers from his school days to assist and turn the team around. With the assistance of this "coach" the main character begins to understand what it takes to make a successful team. He realizes the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and building team pride. This is a book that you can't put down, it can be read quickly and easily and I do feel everyone would be able to associate with parts of the book. Blanchard and Bowles do a great job at using the hockey team to teach the readers about team building yet simultaneously showing how these same principles can be applied to a work site. One is taken through the steps of team building and given examples time and time again on how these steps can be applied. There are very interesting twist throughout the book that keeps one's attention. I recommend this book to everyone.
Team work - A neccessity in any workplace.......2005-03-20
Team Work - Everyone knows the importance but yet more often than not, our own individuality gets in the way. How much more can be achieved if everyone behaves for the collective good of the group rather than for himself?
In this charming story, we follow the journey of Alan Foster, a top producer at work but very much a solo player. Because of this, he loses his job. Soon, he gets a job of coaching his son's ice hockey team, which interestingly, is bottom of the league due to it's lousy teamwork. Through a series of practice sessions and with the help of a former girl's basketball coach, Alan sees the problem with the hockey team and in the process realises his previously same problematic behaviour at work. As with all fairy tales, the team undergoes a transformation after they finally manage to get their act together. As an icing on the cake, Alan somehow also gets invited back to his former company to give a speech on teamwork! Did he finally return to his former company to work? Read the book to find out but of course, do not forget about the main lesons on teamwork! As the saying goes, "None of us is as smart as all of us."
Recommendation: Read this and start working on your team immediately! No point paying so much money to consultants. Get the soft cover version or try to borrow from the library if you are really low on budget. :)
For the simple minded only - and not in a good way.......2005-01-05
This book is a utopian, unrealistic, poorly thought-out, infantile piece of trash. It's an insult to the intelligence of any adult who reads it. Written at a third grade level with 16-point type, this book's contents would be better suited to a coloring book. The philosophy it presents a real no-brainer, and if you need to read this to learn these principles, you have bigger problems to worry about. The "story" is just that, a "story" - there isn't an ounce of truth or realism to it, so just file this book under "office fairy tales". Believe it or not, I'm not a pessimist, I love books, and I'm totally into "self/professional improvement" topics. But do not waste your time or money on this silly book.
Motivating quick read.......2004-02-24
This is a great book to share with your team members to inspire them and to help them learn how to work together more effectively. It's easy to read and will lead to great conversations.
