I bought this book for my husband. He's an engineer and they have a "uniform" - khaki pants and a golf shirt. I tried for years to upgrade this image, but to no avail. With a recent promotion and some hard earned weight loss, I wanted him to be more knowledgeable about how he gets dressed in the morning. I bought several books on men's fashion, but this is the one he refers to most often. It's simple, straight forward and funny, and it's getting good results. Thank you Carson!

Karson's Approach is very informative and funny although I might not agree with all of his ideas on styling. I like the fact that he can be very 'in-your-face' but that's great and at least he's being honest with a lot of fashion faux pas that people make.

Does he BELIEVE he was hired for TV because of his GOOD TASTE? Or just to laugh at in humiliation of him and his "fashion victims"? Obviously Carson is someone raised by wolves, but I do "Lupa" and the boys an injustice by failing to note their superiority.

Just look at the dork! Wearing old lady slippers, and NO SOCKS!

His advice is all on the cover, and looking at it to see what NOT to do is all that's necessary to receive full benefit of the book.

I'll admit it, I was not a terribly dressed man, but I knew I could do alot better and realized the impact it had on my life.I don't usually write reviews, but I had to for this one, I'll admit it, I'm a fan of carson and queer eye as a whole but I was never out to dress like carson, I just thought he had good taste on every man he helped dress, as he says, don't dress like him, the whole book is about developing your own style based on what works for YOU. But this book has completely changed the way I look at clothing, and my understanding of how things look good and why things look good and how we can use simple and fun ways to get there. Whether you spend 200 dollars per month or per year on clothing, this is the book that will give you the basis you need to fit every man's needs and trust me, he'll cover everything, even things that people who wrote bad reviews said it lacked, I don't understand why, I quickly found it, I'm done with the book after two days, I could not put it down. I love my fairy godstylist.

A nice graphic novel [plot] with very good graphics. In this installment of the goddess household, we meet Keiichi's parents. Now I know where Keiichi gets his female handling techniques from. Though the charater development of the parents is a little shallow, it is still a nice story. Of course, the hijinks of the whole group is in full swing! Enjoy the graphic novel.Ah! More Chuck Dixon magic.......2005-07-14

This book covers the beginning of Tim Drake as Robin. He is the third Robin and feels a strong need to prove himself. In his first adventures he fights and is even trained by, one of the world's best martial artists, Lady Shiva. Robin races to defeat a new threat more powerful than previous enemies. The terrorist Ghost Dragons have captured a sample of old bubonic plague and plan to unleash it, killing millions.

I really like Tim Drake as Robin because he does exactly what Dixon proposes: he "complements" Batman. He is not reckless and brash like Jason; if anything he lacks confidence. However, he is arguably the best detective of the three Robins, and incredibly clever.

His determination is what really impresses me. When he is training and feels so helplessly alone, he doesn't give in. That is a true hero. I also have always liked it when Nightwing and Robin get together. They just have such a great brotherly relationship. Chuck Dixon writes both characters really well.

Chuck Dixon is really great with these "coming-of-age" stories. Robin: "A Hero Reborn" is the story of one young man's journey to become a hero. He is not so arrogant to believe that he is destined to be great, and he acknowledges humbly the dangers of the world. Despite his fear, he bravely treads onward. Tim embodies our own struggles with inadequacy and anxiety and we cheer him on as he bests each new trial. This strong empathy between reader and protagonist is reason enough to check out this book for anyone curious to the motivations of a "Boy Wonder."

Reborn Works Well.......2004-11-04

Lets face it: if there is no Robin, there is no Batman.

I nearly cried from reading "Death in the Family" when second Robin, Jason Todd, was killed. Robin represents a part of the Batman comics that enlightens us, makes us thrilled to be the kid, and follow the Dark Knight. That, combined with the fantasy that Batman could recreate his golden days with Richard Grayson (Robin I) died along with Jason.

Some people say Jason wasn't a hero, but I dont think that's correct. He was a child trying to fight in a man's war. Patience and diligence were lessons that he didn't learn.

In between Jason's rashness and Richard's perfection was a thin line that Tim had to walk. But he walked on that path because he knew that Batman needed a Robin. It didn't have to be perfect, but Robin had to exist. Yet in order for Tim to be worthy of the mask, he had to experience something terrible in his life, something Batman had felt before: loss of a loved one.

Frustrated by his mother's death and haunted by visions of the two former Robins, Tim managed to past the test by focusing on what counted. He conquered his fear and concentrated on using his brilliant detective mind to close a case. What mattered was rescuing Batman when his life was in peril-even more than becoming Robin.

This was a hero reborn, indeed. Tim had the balance the traits between both former Robins and the mind to pull it all together. He wasn't just a robin, but a phoenix who rose out of the ashes to become the legendary sidekick to Batman. Everyone is happy to have Tim on the team, and I can see why.

Meet the new Robin!!.......2001-11-12

I thought this Batman graphic novel was great!!! I really enjoyed seeing the new Robin (Tim Drake) taking the mantle of becoming the Dark Knight's sidekick. But it all doesn't happen just instantly, Tim Drake has to prove himself to be a true vigilante superhero by battling his own inner demons and through rigorous and grueling physical and mental training, just like Bruce Wayne had to do before he became the Batman. Plus he has to go up against a power-hungry druglord that plans to wipeout the whole city of Hong-Kong with a powerful secret weapon developed by the Nazis in World War II. I recommend this great graphic novel to all fans of the Batman mythos. I myself can't wait to buy the sequel to this story of the new Robin.

overlooked gem.......2001-09-01

In a time where comics sink to new lows in terms of story & artwork is the "only" thing that matters.... this book is an exception.

A solid story & worthy art in a cute (cheap) little package.

Should be better.......2004-04-29

There is some decent info, but the worst part is how outdated the numbers and addresses are! You go to call a company and they're gone! Same with addresses--I had many queries returned to me because the company was no longer there. So then, what's the point of the book if you can't get ahold of the people?

More "advice" from someone with no record........2003-10-19

The truth is that if you want to make it in Hollywood, you have to come to Hollywood. You can't phone it in, and producers don't have the time or the inclination to track down scripts... they are sent 100 a week to choose from. This book is worse advice than you would get in one night of hanging out at any bar in LA that real, credited writers go to. I mean, look at the other credits this writer has... "your modeling career"... what the heck sort of background does this give so that the writer can speak to script writing, being that he has no script sales (verified by using Studio System, the entertainment industry database) or movies to his credit? The advice in here is plain, common sense, not insightful... and what the other poster said about telling Black writers where to get the best fried chicken in LA is just the sort of stuff you get. He spends three pages detailing how many brads to bind scripts with... and if you actaully talk to any agent, the truth is they don't care. In short, this book is worthless, written by someone with no experience in the subject.

much ado about nothing.......2002-10-20

This book is mostly hype and little delivery. The "inside" information can largely be found on the net and/or in better-written books by screenwriters of prominence. The agent and producer listings are vague and of little help. The book tells you almost nothing about "what they want" and virtually nothing about "how to win them over." All in all, it's poorly written and verbose and could have been cut down to a third of its length. Some of it is shockingly inappropriate, such as recommending to African-American writers where they can get good fried chicken in LA. In sum, it's yet another add-water-and-stir screenwriting book by somebody long on self-aggrandizement and short on Hollywood experience. I also find it quite suspicious that twelve five-star reviews here on ... were posted within a three-day period. Yeah, right.

A terrific resource!.......2002-04-05

I love this book! Mr. Press has done a terrific job. I strongly recommend this book to anyone wanting to make a career as a screenwriter!

A Friend in the Industry.......2002-03-26

As a professional writer in South Africa on an award winning sitcom, amongst others, I have endured constant battles to even have my feature scripts read in Hollywood - to a large degree because of Tinsel Town's blinkered approach to writers who are not based in LA. It really is a business where WHO you know, far outweighs WHAT, and in this respect alone, Skip's book is an invaluable resource. Not only does it provide a wealth of interesting and useful information about the movie industry, it also includes a substantial list of contacts for those who feel they have, to the best of their abilities, mastered the craft of scriptwriting and are ready to start querying producers, agents and managers. Thanks to Skip's book, and his monthly newsletters, I am now repped by a WGA signatory agent and receive regular readings of scripts that before no-one would bother with. While I still haven't sold anything in Hollywood, my confidence has risen since purchasing this book and when I do sell, it'll be to a large degree due to Skip's assistance.

Don't know how to play chess? Read this, fast and good!.......1999-01-31

This is a good first book. To be good at anything requires time,money, effort. This book condenses a solid beginning to about $7. Not bad! I'm rated at about 1460 and I find the reading easy, fast, clear and accurate! I recommend this as a first book. If you know how the pieces move, try a chess club, it doesn't cost anything and you might make a friend. If it's Bill Robertie, you hit the lottery.

Leadership and the New Science is a hard read unless you are the science type. Each chapter starts out like an introduction to evolution, but the ending (the part that you can actually conprehend) is very thought-provoking.

Signficant and Revolutionary Insights to Human Organizations.......2007-07-02

The insights put forth by this book need not be limited to businesses - though that is the stated perspective (ie applying the insight of the new sciences to business managment theory). I think the insights go far beyond business managment and would be of interest to anyone interested in group dynamics and how humans work together - be it on a local community or national level.

For those who may perceive the book as a slam against newtonian physics (as at least one reviewer simplistically decribed it) I do not believe she was invalidating newtonian physics nor mindlessly framing organization dynamics with simplistic generalizations from the "new sciences". She was quite explicit in her introduction that this book was intended as a reflective piece to see what insights might be gained from applying a new paradigm - legitimized by the insights and advances in physics over the last century - to organizational dynamics. To provide context, she demonstrates how our models for organizational theories have derived from newtonian physics and - just as we have learned that this paradigm is not sufficient to describe all of the natural world - perhaps our perspective into other spheres of human activity can be enhanced by applying the insights of the "new sciences" as well.

In short, this book offers a new way of thinking for any human endeavor and its insight are - I believe - essential for progressing into the next millenium.

Disorganized.......2007-05-26

It's really not my type of book. It was required reading for class. I think it was trying to get at some ideas like field vision and systems theory. I found more substantial info in dalai's books. I think it was called seven ways of Buddhism.

Applies quantum theory to management.......2007-05-12

This book is a challenging read and is a good fit for someone who's both scientifically and management minded. It provides some good links between quantum theory and management, but at times, it is a struggle to understand and one must read the section over several times to fully understand.
The author's work at the Berkana Institute is very interesting which believes that leaders are already present in communities and need to emerge. If you like the book, I encourage you to look up the institute!

Challening, Accessible and Interesting.......2007-04-25

This book is challenging, yet accessible, even if the reader does not posses a scientific background. While Wheatley's observations about organizations and their problems are not unique to her, her approach is, and provides an interesting framework to approach organizational development and design.
