Mystery unravelled!!.......2001-04-06
Not knowing nor understanding anything about "modern art", this delightful text and examples illustrated, gave me a new insight and respectful understanding of the artists grouped in the "modern" era. The authors skillfully organized the evolution from the"emoting expressioinist, confusing cubists, daring dadaists, super surrealists, awesome abstractionists" etc. chapters. This book is a MUST for everyone wishing to maximize their enjoyment of modern art. Read about Picasso, Miro, Kandinski, Pollack and many, many more!

What we all hope the fashion magazines would do.......2007-07-18
This book covers everything from what is in your purse to the bottom of your shoes. Its 365 calendar day style makes it ideal to impart a lot of information efficiently; at first, you may focus more on the beautiful graphic pages that help you put together twelve fool-proof outfits (one per month). The second time through the book you may focus more on the general style improvements--adding a Pucci print; how to incorporate animal and Ethnic prints into a wardrobe without looking costumey. Finally I went through the book as it was intended, one page per day, and chewed over the food for thought Lloyd Boston gives: investing in an elegant pen that can reinforce a good impression; taking care of clothing and shoes properly; when to shop for coats and swimsuits.
The author provides something very few fashion books do: specific outfit construction ideas that are generic enough to fit anyone's wardrobe. His multitude of combinations helps you rearrange what you already have into something stylish and classic, making it easy to incorporate new and trendy pieces in with your elegant staples. It does what we all hope those fashion magazines will do for us every month.Practical and useful, it will expand your wardrobe without you buying a thing.
Best of its Kind.......2006-12-03
I've read many other style books lately, but this one has been my favorite. Lloyd's tips are so original and smart...he goes farther than any book I've ever read. There was so much new and original advice that I would have never thought to try! The book has 365 style tips, one for each day of the year. I checked this book out from the library, however, and read the whole thing in about a week!
I will most likely be buying this book, because, even if you did like I did and read the whole thing in a week...you can't remember EVERY tip. It's going to be something you're going to want to keep on your shelf and turn back to time and time again when you're style needs a lift, or when a certain outfit needs a boost.
Another thing I liked is how it's not ALL about the clothes. The book is about how to make a complete head to toe ensemble. It describes shoes, scarves, hats, coats, jewelry, and how to wear all of those things to a lady's best advantage. Also, scattered in the book, are hair and make-up tips that were useful. Lloyd also talks about how to not just look great, but FEEL great. It's amazing.
Any woman can pick up this book and find many, many things to help improve her look and her life. I guarantee it.
Lloyd, I liked it.......2006-11-06
This may not be a guerrilla manual, 10-steps-or-less, 10-seconds-or-less book but it is a purposeful, satisifying book on getting dressed each day. The conversational flavor is as a stylist imparting wisdom to a client/friend. Each day's subject is a pick-me-up, a thoughful bit of fashion to chew on when you dress that day; and fashion being the encompassing subject it is, perhaps it is best handled in a meditative, chipper fashion is it is through-out this book.
Very helpful is that it is organized by month: reading about capri pants in January is irrelevant, however you can go straight to October - or June - as necessary. I learned a lot from this book and I thought I knew a lot. You can always learn more. The spotlight reviewer that 'yawns' over the book makes me wonder as to how she views fashion - as a crash'n'burn way to get thru the day - or, as Lloyd presents it, a clever, fun subject we all need to give thought to to stay on top of with a smile. Great job, Lloyd. I appreciate your effort, and treasure my copy. And have recommened it.
I refer to It All the Time.......2006-10-04
Of all the style books I have purchased (which would be about a dozen--I try hard), this is by far my favorite and the one I turn to the most. Lloyd Boston gives direct, helpful, daily advice to anyone and everyone who is willing to learn. I have had so many compliments on my wardrobe--almost daily compliments--since I have tried to put into practice his suggestions. It is not hard to do, you do not have to figure out what style you are, what colors are best, what season, etc.(Although if you want to do that, Trinny and Susannah's newest book is handy for that.) It also does not have to be that expensive. You may have a lot of what he suggests already. It is his mixing and matching that makes the outfit. Reading the book is like having a stylist in my bookcase, waiting to help inspire me. It is friendly, readable and not condescending in its approach. Although not every day's suggestion is useful to me, overall the book is more than I expected. I highly recommend it.
Lloyd makes everything clear?.......2006-09-29
Lloyd's book solved SO many questions for me. The easy layout and straightforward advice helps me decide what to do with all that stuff in my closet! The beautiful illustrations make it coffee-table beautiful. Lloyd defines the difference between being trendy and being stylish (which lasts forever!).

A Chuckle a Day.......2006-03-28
"Just like their calendars for the last four or five years, this desk calendar reminds me daily of the genius that is The Simpsons. I look forward to turning the page each and every morning (twice on Mondays!) to get my day started on a humorous note. I often test my co-workers and boss with the trivia questions. It's amazing how many people are still into the Simpsons after all these years!" --actual letter from a fan
Shoddy merchandise.......2006-02-09
Commits the cardinal sin of any spin-off product of a well-known comedy: it's completely, painfully unfunny. The art and the questions display a complete lack of effort at every level. I bought this item at a clearance sale for $4.00, and I *still* returned it.
A major disappointment.......2006-01-26
This calendar is a complete waste of money.
The questions cover only about five of over fifteen seasons.
The art is limited and repetitive, often not even from the episode referenced.
Considering how impressive the Simpsons wall calendar is, this should have been much better.
Terrible.......2006-01-25
This calendar is terrible. There are NO questions referencing episodes prior to season 10. Just like the reruns on tv, apparantly the first 6 or 7 seasons of the simpsons have been swept under the rug.
I would have a lot less problem with this if it were advertised on the box as being the case.

Arizona is the only state in the union that has adopted an official state neckwear and a state reptile, and the only place in the world to prosecute a man for murder by gila monster. Learn even more as you laugh your way through the pages of Arizona Curiosities.

Great book for Arizonians new and old!.......2006-02-24
I bought this book for my parents. They've lived in Arizona for three years but tell me that they have been passing by all these really cool landmarks without knowing they were even there. Now they are finding out interesting facts about their own area and areas in the vicinity that they are planning on visiting (now that the book has given them even more purpose to venture there). I highly recommend it for the seasoned and the new.
Arizona -- or Arkansas?.......2004-01-28
Am I the only one to notice that "Arizona Curiosities" really has the state of Arkansas on its cover? Are they joking? I mean, the states both begin in "A," but that's absolutely where the similarities end. Maybe this is a prime example of grade schools which allow students who have not learned the academic basics to move to the next level and the next, on through the system. And that's why some students can somehow get a high school or even a college diploma while still believing that Brazil is located in Europe.

well done - seriously outdated.......1999-05-16
As I am not a serious "Trekie", my only interest is in finding the value of a lifesize standup movie display depicting the entire crew of the Enterprize. This display is from the original Star Trek movie. Am possibly interested in selling. Any help out there?
Great Reference! Everything in one place; lots of info........1999-03-19
This is a wonderful book for the serious collector that has to stay on top of pricing guidelines. It has a huge range of products, lots of pictures, detailed descriptions, and is easy to use. I'm always searching for another Star Trek Collectible reference, but none is as well done. The only problem is it needs to be updated.
very informative.......1999-02-20
This is the best star trek price guide I've found and I've been looking for a while. However this book is a few years out of date, it would be great if they updated it.

Customer Reviews:
Insightful material on Performance Dashboards.......2007-07-18
Overall this is a great book, which is extremely well presented... A key point to take home is, that dashboards are not just fancy displays with graphs/ RYG lights, but a set of applications to monitor, measure and manage business performance, with a solid business intelligence and integration infrastructure.... Also, author's point of views on different types of dashboards (strategic, tactical and operational), and the types of audience for each of these types, and their analysis requirements were very insightful.. This coupled with BI maturity model that the author presents, is an invaluable guide for organizations to assess their current state, and provide the roadmap for thier performance management needs... Three detailed case studies have been presented to explain three types of dashboards.
A lot of tricks and tips throughout the book... Strongly recommend this book...
Quo vadis?.......2007-04-12
For purposes of discussion, pretend that your organization is a vehicle within which you and your associates travel en route to a series of destinations; for example, various stages of progressively improved operational efficiency and progressively increased profitability. One key question arises: How well is your vehicle performing?
The three "dashboards" (i.e. operational, tactical, and strategic) that Wayne Eckerson offers in this volume can help to answer that question. "The monitoring application conveys critical information at a glance using timely and relevant data, usually with graphical elements; the analysis application lets users analyze and explore performance data across multiple dimensions and at different levels of detail to get at the root cause of problems and issues; the management application fosters communication among executives, managers, and staff and gives executives continuous feedback across a range of critical activities, enabling them to `steer' their organizations in the right direction."
The ultimate success of the cohesive, comprehensive, and cost-effective system which Eckerson discusses in this book depends on several factors: sufficient leadership and resources at all levels of implementation, correct and consistent application of the right metrics, a compelling graphical user interface, and contingency planning which ensures user adoption while driving the organizational changes.
I especially appreciate Eckerson's provision of three mini case studies that illustrate how -- in real-world situations - the three performance "dashboards" can achieve the desired objectives. Specifically, those that are operational (Quicken Loans, Inc., pages 127-141), those which are tactical (International Truck and Engine Corp., pages 143-158), and those which are strategic (Hewlett Packard Co., pages 159-177). I also appreciate the material provided in Part Three (Critical Success Factors: Tips from the Trenches) as Eckerson correlates various multilayered applications built on business intelligence and data integration infrastructure that enables any organization (regardless of size or nature) to measure, monitor, and manage business performance more effectively.
All executives recognize the importance of accurate and consistent measurement of what really matters. Obviously, the "what" varies (sometimes significantly) from one organization to another. In my opinion, the three performance "dashboards" that Eckerson recommends can be of substantial benefit, whatever the given "what" may be but if - and only if - the aforementioned success factors are present. To repeat, they are: sufficient leadership and resources at all levels of implementation, correct and consistent application of the right metrics, a compelling graphical user interface, and contingency planning which ensures user adoption while driving the organizational changes.
This book is by no means an "easy read" but it will generously reward those who absorb and digest its material with appropriate care. Then what? He fully understands how difficult it is to ensure adoption by others, and, to manage performance effectively throughout the given enterprise. In the final chapter, Eckerson notes that performance dashboards can easily backfire and cause performance to decline or stall instead of climb. He then identifies what he characterizes as eight cardinal sins " that can turn a performance dashboard into a performance quagmire." How to avoid them? Eckerson offers nine strategies to ensure adoption and eight strategies to manage performance.
I highly recommend this brilliant book as well as Dean Spitzer's Transforming Performance Measurement. Both are eminently worthy of thoughtful and rigorous consideration. However, that said, I also offer a caveat expressed by Peter Drucker in 1963: "There is surely nothing quite so useless as doing with great efficiency what should not be done at all." Invoking again the "vehicle" metaphor introduced in the first paragraph of this brief commentary, I presume to suggest that if you and your companions don't know where you are going, "any road will get you there."
Performance Dashboards.......2007-01-10
The first two-thirds of the book were extremely disappointing and added very little value to the understanding of how to create effective dashboards. Instead, the author spent far too much time discussing IT concepts and buzzwords such as datamarts, multidimensional databases, operational data stores and OLAP tools. Much of the book reads as a platform for why one needs to invest in IT to help manage your business performance. It wasn't until the final third of the book that some useful concepts were explored regarding how a non-IT person should go about developing a solid performance dashboard.
Must read for keen Performance Management specialists and Managers.......2007-01-10
The book delivered exactly what I have expected from it. It provides clear picture about how Performance Dashboards work. It is very well structured, blends theory with experience and targets keen developers and users.
When I purchased the book, I was asked to put forward a proposal for a comprehensive Performance Management system. I really benefited from the systematic approach used to build such system.
It recommend it for anyone who is implementing performance management system, or even business process management systems which also provides performance dashboards of the automated processes.
Best Description Yet of Dashboard Goals and Structure.......2007-01-09
This is the first book that I have read that gives a good overview of how and why you would use a dashboard. It has a good flow and give you information you can use. It is a little dry, but it is hard to make this too exciting.
