Good but not great.......2001-01-16
This is a very good Dover art book to show the early drawings of the Masters. All the drawings include landscapes. I bought this book to learn how the old Masters did landscapes. It was somewhat of a disappointment because the drawings are very dark and small and the details are hard to make out. Dover should use bigger paper to show landscapes. A lot is lost by the 8.5 by 11 inch paper used.

Well this IS the most psychedelic trade..........2006-01-17
...and it remained my least favorite one, neck to neck with Kissing mr. Quimper story. It is , basically, telepathic interogation of battered and bruised King Mob and Invisibles to the rescue. Since I didn't like it so much, well, get it only if you wanna see it through the end.
The Invisibles continues to astonish!.......2005-05-14
After somewhat losing its pace in Apocalipstick (I didn't care much for Jill Thompson's artwork and Lord Fanny's origin story, but it was overall a good read) the Invisibles gets back on track with this stunning addition to the title. King Mob and Lord Fanny have been captured by the Archons and are being tortured by the ruthless Sir Miles. Meanwhile Boy, a (female) member of KM's Invisibles cell, searches for Jack, the next Buddha, and Ragged Robin meets up with the voodoo rapstar Jim Crow (he has the coolest gun!). It was when Boy found Jack that the Invisibles became my favorite comic ever. The part where Barbelith (I'm not going to try to explain that...charcter?) forces Jack to feel the pain humanity has gone through (the Holocaust, famine, disease, war) is the most touching and convincing scene I have ever read in any book. Paul Johnson's rough artwork is a perfect match for Morrison's writing in the issue. So buy this volume, and then buy them all, for the Invisibles is truly an experience.
The Invisibles, Book 3: Entropy in the UK.......2005-03-16
After the sometimes-underwhelming art of the previous two collections, Phil Jimenez's artwork in the first half of Book 3 of the Invisibles is sort of like a slap to the face: vibrant, detailed, masterful. Luckily, he later became the regular artist on the series, but here he only illustrates the opening arc, a three-part saga that details King Mob's torture at the hands of Archon agents, and which also provides this volume with its title.
In a way, this is the true beginning of what the Invisibles would soon become known for: fast-paced ideas and action, and an onslaught of mysticism, fringe science, and conspiracy theories. I've never been sure if it was Jimenez's amazing artwork that lead to this, or if Morrison finally thought his readers were "ready" for the big time, but regardless, from here on out things happen, and events unfold at a maddening pace all the way until the final volume of the series.
Having been captured at the end of Book 2, Invisibles King Mob and Lord Fanny are at the mercy of Sir Miles Delacourt, straightlaced and overbearing agent of the demonic Archons. Here, finally, we get to know a bit more about King Mob, as Delacourt invades his mind and sorts through his past. This is full-on psychedelia, as King Mob attempts to defend himself in the guise of fictional character Gideon Stargrave, a mod super-spy from the `60s (and author Michael Moorcock's Jerry Cornelius in all but name; something Morrison readily admitted). This results in Delacourt waging a mental war against King Mob's psychic defenses, with the Stargrave segments providing some outrageous cross-dimensional action sequences. Very heady stuff, with lots of mystic ideas dropped, this arc is easily one of the high points of the entire series.
After this storyline, the narrative slows down for a moment as we have a single-issue peek into Boy's background. Boy, the black female martial artist Invisible, was never Morrison's strongest creation. In fact, he eventually admitted this, and basically dropped the character toward the end of the series. Therefore, her spotlight issue, "How I Became An Invisible," is probably my least favorite story in the Invisibles canon. It hints at interesting developments that later become integral to the series (shadowy government agents taking innocent black Americans prisoner, and shipping them off in mysterious trains), but Morrison ruins it all by having the characters speak in some of the most fake "black" dialog ever. You can tell he's out of his element, a Scottish writer creating "urban" dialog for inner-city black Americans. It doesn't really work.
Things get back on track after this, with the narrative picking right up after the events in the opening arc. Though King Mob and Fanny have defeated Sir Miles, they're still trapped in a building that's crawling with enemy soldiers and ultraterrestrial beings. The remaining Invisibles cell (Dane, Boy, Ragged Robin) call in reinforcements, and fellow Invisibles Jim Crow and Mr. Six show up to help. This results in a multi-issue storyline that features all sorts of high-concept action, as the Invisibles wade through hell-on-Earth protective spells and defend themselves against cancer-inducing nanoweapons.
The book ends with a single-issue look at Division X, the swaggering British counterpart of the X-Files (Mr. Six is one of the three members of Division X, incidentally). This story seemingly has nothing much to do with anything else in the series so far, until much later, when the themes brought up here are developed. The story does feature the first appearance of the impish, demonic Quimper, a frightening little creature who will cause the Invisibles much trouble in future volumes.
As mentioned, Phil Jimenez provides the art for the first half of the book, with Steve Yeowell filling in the other half. This is pleasing thematically, as Yeowell started off the series, and his finishing up the first major arc makes sense. However, I've never been the greatest fan of his work. The Boy/Division X issues are penciled by fill-in artists: one scratchy, the other Todd McFarlane-esque.
This trade paperback wraps up what was the first volume of the Invisibles comic run. After these issues, DC/Vertigo halted publication for a few months, and Morrison revised his approach to the story. After this, no longer would the story come off as methodically-paced as it had in earlier issues (the Marquis de Sade storyline in the "Say You Want a Revolution" trade in particular); instead, the series would feature nonstop action, sex, and ultraviolence. Some say this new approach was a "watered down" version of the Invisibles, but I say that's hogwash. The stories collected in this book are great, true, but the best was yet to come for the Invisibles.
Satisfyingly satisfying.......2003-03-10
Entropy in the UK concludes the story told in Vol.1 through 3. And what an ending it is...
Broken down into parts, the first 3 issues detail the torture of King Mob, and his interesting way to counteract it. Morrison is forever writing himself into his stories, and he takes off with it, writing himself as Mod Spy Gideon Stargrave. Insanity ensues...
The final issues show the Invisibles at work, fighting Ultradimensional monsters with Voodoo and Buddha. Morrison, while writing this, was struck with numerous sicknesses, cumulating in an infected lung and a serious life crisis. This shows in the story, as everyone is subjected to airborne nanotech cancer agents and King Mob suffers from a collapsed lung.
This is great storytelling, but requires that you read the first two volumes to even come close to understanding it.
A real treat.
The end of the beginning for THE INVISIBLES -- good reading.......2001-10-20
ENTROPY IN THE UK is a thought-provoking read, and a satisfying conclusion to this first major arc in THE INVISIBLES. It balances Morrison's usual rush of madcap ideas with solid plot advancement and continued character development, as Boy and Dane question their involvement with the resistance group and Fanny and King Mob try to resist psychic interrogation and torture.
The book's opening arc, also entitled Entropy in the UK, is probably my favorite. One of the recurring themes of The Invisibles is the limits of human beings' ability to perceive their surroundings - the limitations imposed on them from the outside, and the limitations they place upon themselves. The interrogation sequence in this story is one of the finest explorations of this issue, especially in its discussion of the role of language. One of the drugs that Miles and his men pump into King Mob causes him to be unable to distinguish between a word and the concept that the word describes; as Miles uses it to warp Mob's perceptions, he talks about the limits of the English language and alphabet. It's a great sequence, one that illustrates the power of words, as well as their limits. Phil Jiminez's beautiful pencils display the dazzling, chaotic landscape of King Mob's mind and thoughts, while the narration and script lay out the dizzying ideas and mantras of the two combatants. It's very clever, very enjoyable stuff.
The rest of the book is also strong, although I preferred Jiminez's work to that of any of the other artists here -- no knock against them, as I'm a really big fan of Jiminez. Morrison wraps up some threads from SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTION and APOCALIPSTICK, and sets a number of others into motion -- so at the end of this, you'll definitely want to keep reading with BLOODY HELL IN AMERICA.

Hilarious!!!!!.......2006-12-12
I am going through a broken engagement with the person I thought was the love of my life. This book has helped me soooo much in the past month...it made me realize I am not crazy! The cartoons are so funny and I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is going through a break-up.
Waste of money.......2006-05-18
There is nothing in this book that will help a truly broken-hearted person feel better. It's a bunch of childish cartoons and advice. I really wish I hadn't purchased it. There are much better books out there for the broken-hearted: It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken; The Girl's Guide to Surviving Break Ups; Extreme Break Up Recovery; Don't Call That Man. Buy one of those instead!
Funny.......2006-03-03
I got this book awhile after my breakup, when I was able to laugh about it. Love the book. Very amusing.
Hilarious!.......2005-12-18
This isn't a serious self-help book, but definitely one to read when you're at the tail-end of your break-up and can actually laugh at ridiculousness of it. I read this at Borders, and my friend and I were lauging it up in the aisles. The stick-figure illustrations are really cute and funny, but if you've just broken-up and are still very sore, maybe wait on getting this one. Otherwise, if you want to laugh at all your own crazy antics post break-up, this will have you rolling on the ground. I'm definitely buying this one!
Not at all useful. .......2005-11-07
This book is basically a count from 1 to 100 of things (both could and bad) that people could possibly do after a break up. It's obviously meant to just be funny and not as an actual self-help book for people who have recently broken up. The sad part is that it is not actually that funny. This is one of the few books that I have bought during my lifetime that I returned.

Book Description
By the middle of the twentieth century, Hollywood, formerly the one and only dream factory, found itself facing a host of media rivals for the public’s attention. In the 1980s, another competitor arrived in the form of the proto-Internet—a computer network as yet untested by all but research scientists, college students, the military, and a few thousand PC and modem owners. How did Hollywood respond to this nascent challenge? By dreaming about it, in a series of technological fantasies, from Tron to War Games to Lawnmower Man. The Cinema Dreams Its Rivals examines the meaning and effect of the movies’ attempts to reshape the shifting media landscape.
Paul Young looks at the American cinema’s imaginative constructions of three electronic media—radio, television, and the Internet—at the times when these media seemed to hold limitless possibilities. In doing so, he demonstrates that Hollywood is indelibly marked by the advent of each new medium, from the inclusion of sound in motion pictures to the use of digital graphics. But conversely, Young argues, the identities of the new media are themselves changed as Hollywood turns them to its own purposes and its own dreams.
Paul Young is professor of English and director of the film studies program at Vanderbilt University.

Chris Moneymaker was just a regular guy working as an accountant in Tennessee, who enjoyed playing online poker - and winning. On a fluke he decided to enter the World Series of Poker, paid the $40 application fee, and, with only three years' experience playing the game, won it all: $2.5 million. Merging Chris' amazing story with actual tools to help the average joe become a poker star, this is the must-have poker book for online dreamers and budding young amateurs alike.
Customer Reviews:
Fun Quick Read!.......2006-10-29
So many people think this guy just got lucky. Don't get me wrong, luck plays a major role in winning a poker tournament. All the luck in the world won't help however if you don't have your head in the game and know what your doing. Chris tells a very captivating tale about how he grew up a gambler, turned to online poker as an outlet after he got married, and then earned a shot at 2.5 million dollars and took down the biggest poker tournament in the world. I picked up the book and honestly read it from cover to cover before putting it down. FYI this is not a biography. It's simply the story of his huge win, with enough previous life story included so you understand what brought him there. Hell I'd like to buy him a beer for not holding back. It was a great story told without the spin the ESPN analysts put on it. Well done Chris!
A book for anyone who has ever dreamed of winning it big!!!.......2006-09-14
+++++
"The poker player learns that sometimes both science and common sense are wrong; that the bumblebee can fly; that, perhaps, one should never trust an expert; that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt by those with an academic bent."
This is an actual quotation (by a famous poker player) found in this fascinating, well-written, and often humorous book by Chris Moneymaker. Yes! That's his real name. (Daniel Paisner, an author, also helped with the writing.) This book definitely proves the above quote and effectively conveys how Moneymaker "turned $40 into $2.5 million at the [2003] world series of poker."
This is not a strategy book. However, the reader will pick up a few tips as Moneymaker recounts the days that led up to him winning the 2003 world series of poker. Day one (there are five days altogether) of his incredible journey to become a poker champion is interweaved with biographical details of his life.
Moneymaker was not, as the book's subtitle states, an "amateur poker player" or, in fact, was not an amateur gambler. He was, however, an amateur poker tournament player.
Starting with day two, there are "chip leaders" lists for each day. The tournament that Moneymaker was involved in (which he ultimately won) had a total prize pool of $7,802,700.
There are appendices at the end of the book each of which is called a "crib sheet." People not familiar with poker will find them invaluable especially the ones entitled "A short course in Texas Hold'em (this was the type of poker game that the tournament Moneymaker was involved in played) and "A glossary of poker terms."
Finally, my only minor complaint is the glossary (that's indicated above) does not contain a couple of basic poker terms.
In conclusion, this book recounts how an amateur poker player named Chris Moneymaker turned $40 into $2.5 million at the world series of poker. I will leave you with another quotation by a famous poker player that is in this book:
"Poker is a lot like sex. Everyone thinks they're the best, but most people don't know what they're doing."
(first published 2005; 9 chapters; afterword; main narrative 225 pages; 5 appendices)
+++++
WARNING! You'll laugh out loud!!.......2006-05-07
This book can be hilarious at times. By the way, this is not a poker book. It's not supposed to be a poker book. This is an autobiography. You will not learn any strategy. Think of it as entertainment. I must say that the ending can be a bit sad. As previous reviewers say, " a rocky story". Another said, "a cautionary tale." But a great book!
Very good read but not a poker strategy book. Also: I beat up on reviewer "DS"... again!.......2006-04-25
Forget any kind of tactical information or instruction as far as playing any kind of poker, that's not at all what this book is.
There's a lot of folks big on calling Moneymaker a "fluke", and that may be about right. The 2003 World Series was his first live tournament & so on. I'll go along with that, and so would he. Not the point.
There a hidden value to this book! It's a detailed perspective of this guy's mindset as he plays. An amateur's thought process is different from a top pro's, right? Nice to get a different perspective now and then - especially since THIS is much more likely to be the type of opponent many of us play against.
While I've read a number of books by some top pros like Doyle, Annie Duke, Harrington and gotten their perspectives on the game, I won't be playing any of them any time soon. I'll be playing guys like Moneymaker.
That's pretty much why I gave it four stars. It's just information. The way he evaluated some of his reads during the tournament, some of the mistakes he made (and there's quite a few), these were all things that I found interesting and helpful. What kind of risks will he take, or NOT take?
Will my opponents have similar traits? Sometimes.
In one case he flops trip sevens, with 7-7 in the hole. There's a rainbow flop like J 7 4, it's late in the tournament, and instead of trying to figure out how to get all his money in to the pot, he's actually worried about the guy holding JJ!
I won't tell you what happens, but for those of you newer to the game, you DEFINATELY try to get all your chips in the pot with your opponent, ESPECIALLY in this situation! If the guy has JJ, well, it just wasn't your day and you'll just have to pay him off. Yet, Moneymaker actually seems confused here.
**About the reviewer "DS" (down a few reviews). I remember this same guy gave Caro's Book of Tells -proabably one of the 6 or 7 most essential poker books in the history of all poker- a one- star rating in another review. By his comments, he didn't even READ this book.
Besides, how far can you trust a book review written by a guy who seems to have trouble spelling and constructing proper sentences? **
Could not put it down!.......2005-12-21
I've read about 20 books on Texas Hold'em and I can tell you that this one only provided a little on strategy of the game.
However, it is very rare that I read a book and can't put it down. Moneymaker's book is one of those rare finds for me.
I enjoyed it.

GREAT BOOK.......2007-07-24
HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO READ MUCH OF THE BOOK. RECEIVED PROMPTLY, AND IN GREAT SHAPE
A moving target.......2007-04-10
Writing any kind of book about Amazon is like trying to hit a moving target -- print books become dated the minute they are published while the Internet world keeps growing and changing. This book demonstrates that inevitability moreso than others, but even so, wears its advantages on its sleeves. It is a testament to the informative nature of this book that it still holds so much value even when Amazon itself has changed to render so many of the specifics out-dated. Nevertheless, the guts of the content is still meatier than most books you find on the subject of online sales. The author would do well to consider a revised edition. What do you say, Michael? This level of insight on some of the new features like Seller Central and Amapedia? I'd buy it! - Brent Sampson, author of Self-Publishing Simplified
Good introduction.......2007-03-07
Knowing absolutely nothing about selling on Amazon.com when I ordered this book, I found it to be very informative and a good introduction. Perhaps the information in this book can be found on the Amazon.com website as other reviewers have noted, but if so I couldn't find it and felt the $17 price tag was well worth it. The book covers many different methods of selling on Amazon.com, including auctions, zShop, and Marketplace, along with advertising, the Associates program and the Advantage program. The one glaring omission as far as I was concerned (and the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) was shipping. There are only a couple vague references to how shipping costs are calculated and collected, leaving me with more questions than answers.
useful? i disagree.......2007-02-01
maybe for absolute beginners it's ok. i thought a lot of the material was dated. don't pay retail!
Great book! Very easy to follow. If you have the inventory, this book is a must own.......2007-01-07
I could not put this book down once I started reading it, and you won't either! Teaches you how to sell your products on Amazon, with a very easy to learn, in-depth approach. I still carry it with me every time I do anything on Amazon.
When I 1st got the book I went straight for chapter #10. Basically, 'How to get your Amazon Account up & running.' But, if I had the chance to do it over again I would definitely start from the beginning. Author: Michael Bellomo advise is simple and to the point. Bellomo answers all questions you might have on starting an account based on your specific needs; whether you are a small, medium or large business.
The only suggestion I might recommend, is a little in-sight in to the best way for a small business to upload UPC/ISBN #'s to an excel spreadsheet. Using only 1 or 2 PC's. What kind of Barcode Scanner/Program do you recommend, for the money. We had a Dell that came with the computer, that we found out was a $750 piece of junk.
Other than that, this book is a must read for anyone interested in selling on Amazon.

Customer Reviews:
A Lot of Enthisuasm but Too Much Rah-Rah!.......2007-09-09
This is really a book to get you up to speed on the full range of eBay features. I got this book from my local library to checkup on how I'm doing on eBay, and see if I could improve results. The only thing I learned was a reminder to carefully write titles that increase search hits. The rest of the book tends to minimize or ignore the negatives about eBay while putting the best face on everything else.
For example, online sellers communicate in several venues such as Yahoo! Groups, to help each other sell more and solve problems (and many turn to Amazon Marketplace t oincrease sales with no up-front costs, and ease of collecting payments). One trend that has emerged in the last few years as opposed to early internet days is selling items in lots because postage and selling fees are too great on individual items, or because items just don't sell as well as they did in say, 2001. This book makes one passing mention of lots, on page 72.
The book also tends to subtly portray sellers concerned about eBay fees as a little off; some people seem to think people are growing rich off eBay tariffs is his basic argument. Well, Dennis Prince, more than a few sellers think that is very true! While he advises sellers to watch costs and minimize fees, and tells which he thinks are useful, if the reader doesn't pay attention to those sections he will have a lighter wallet listening to all the hype.
The book ignores sell-through rates, and sell-through rates in different categories, advising sellers to research past selling prices and to visit Vendio for online auction tools and statistics. Good advice before you decide to list a bunch of stuff from your attic that will never sell.
And that is the problem with this book. It's hype. The title itself "How To Sell Anything on eBay ... and Make a Fortune!" is consumerism and marketing disrobed. If Mr. Prince thinks he can sell anything on eBay, he is welcome to take my fifty worst items and have a go at them. A lot of items don't sell at all online, or don't sell quickly or profitably. You'd never know that from the title or through the rose-colored smog of corporate media marketing. Perhaps publisher McGraw-Hill should deflate this balloon and do a little down to earth editing.
Very little of substance.......2007-09-07
Promises a LOT more than it delivers; very basic information, padded with lots of "chatty" verbiage. It's particularly annoying that the author spills lots of ink telling you how he won't waste your time. Contains a few useful hints, which could have made a reasonable newspaper article, but not much more.
If You Know Your Way Around a Computer..........2007-01-25
This is not the book for you...or at least, that is how i felt.
I agree with the rating that said it was very drawn out...because it is. All i kept thinking was YAWN...when are we gonna get to the good stuff.
When I did arrive at the "good stuff"...for example how to title your listings, it was short, to the point and nothing enlightened me to something new.
Regret the purchase and hope that in the future the publisher will add that this is a very basic book for the beginner.
informative and valuable!.......2006-02-21
This book - if I ever have the time to USE it - will be a VERY VALUABLE item in my library!
How to Sell Anything on eBay...and Make a Fortune.......2006-01-15
It wasn't the best out there, but there was some ok tips in there.
If he was making a fortune on eBay, he wouldn't be writing this book he would be out on his yaht somewhere in the French Riviera. That is where I will be when my ebay store finally scores.
My store is almost 2 weeks old. I have made over $300 in sales and by years end hoping to add a few zeros to that number.
The thing is, I LOVE shopping on eBay, I love taking pictures, I love bargain hunting...and ofcourse passing on the savings to my customers and future customers. I have to be honest, some of the stuff I find, I like to much to sell and end up having to go for seconds. Then again, I love shopping, so this was totally up my alley.
I also have been a photo buff since I was 15, so I love taking pictures and editing them...it's like art work to me. I then get to share. I am still working on getting some more photo props and a tripod which will make life easier, and photography of merchandise more fun.
I am at an advantage, though; I live in NY so I have tons of wholesalers and manufacterers in this Metro area. It's just a matter of finding the right ones.
Right now, I am still in research phase. So far, so good.
Don't give up, if you like this sort of thing...it can really work for you. I am living it, right now and enjoying every minute.
You can check out how I added some of the tips to my store, and critics are welcomed.

Wish me luck and I wish you the same. Don't give up!!
