Book Description
Stephen Koury shows readers how to paint the beautiful, delicate colors and textures of the smaller side of wildlife: butterflies, bees, insects, amphibians, hummingbirds and tiny mammals. Through a series of step-by-step mini-demos in acrylics, he shows readers how to create the intricate designs characteristic of these captivating creatures, including the: * Transparent qualities of dragonfly wings * Fuzzy appearance of bumble bees * Damp, smoothly textured skin of frogs The final chapters of the book are devoted entirely to setting these creatures into a realistic environment in order to create a most accurate and attractive painting.

Renowned babe artist Frank Cho reinvented Shanna the She-Devil with this pulpy 2005 Marvel Knights miniseries. Here, Shanna is an abandoned Nazi experiment, super-powerful, super-sexy, and barely clothed. The scientists who discover Shanna and take her back to their camp also make the mistake of uncovering a deadly virus, and it's up to Shanna to escort the still-healthy to recover the cure. Problem is, hundreds of raptors and other deadly dinosaurs stand in their way. The seven-issue series ultimately doesn't amount to much, but the action and visuals are exciting and fast-moving. --David Horiuchi

Jurassic Boobs.......2007-03-29
While Frank Cho's art delivers, his story does not. The plot is prosaic, the dialog weak and the characters stereotypical and one dimensional. I have never reviewed a bad book for Amazon but this one comes close.
Having said that, if I had it to do over, I'd buy this book again.
Why? Because of the art. I am not immune to feminine pulchritude but there is more than that here. There are dinosaurs. Man-eating, body-chomping predators.
And of course there is Shanna.
Frank Cho is one of a handful of artists who can make the female form high art but (there's always a but) I actually got tired of having boobs in my face...and not any boobs - huge, collossal, magnificent boobs. In fact, they are so prevalent that it seemed like subliminal messaging..."We're in great danger here (boobs)...we could be killed (boobs)...you get the idea.
Still, I did buy it and I am glad - but not for the boobs. Seriously.
If I was 15 again I'd probably give it 5 stars.
Great story. Great art........2007-01-04
Combine an action-adventure story worthy of Edgar Rice Burroughs with a protagonist right out of a pin-up magazine and you have Shanna the She-Devil. It's a great re-imagining of the character. Cho's artwork is stunning!
Move over Tarzan, Shanna's got more of everything........2006-08-15
Frank Cho's artistry is top notch. He breaks the trendy mold on how to draw the female form in action in today's comics and graphic novels. The story is far fetched but Jurassic park made money for a reason.
Beautiful art and a fun story.......2006-03-24
This is a great buy for anyone who knows and enjoys Cho's art. He has stated that he loved doing this series because it was full of two of his favorite subjects- hot women and dinosaurs- and that joy shows on every page.
The story is exactly waht it means to be: fun. There are intriguing bits of character development and good dialogue throughout, but don't look for a penetrating analysis of the human condition here. This is a story about a Cho Babe slugging it out with dinos.
This hardcover edition is beatifully bound like Marvel's other Premiere HCs, and in this case the content merits the format.
Better Than Expected.......2006-02-24
I expected the art in Frank Cho's book to be top notch and it met those expectations. The story, however, in "Shanna, The She-Devil" exceeded my expectations.
While it may not be a wholly original story, I do not mind that. Like many things, I don't mind something unoriginal as long as it is done well, and "Shanna" falls into this category.
The book is surprisingly less titillating than I thought it would be and no more pornographic than the typical comic book (or entertainment product for that matter). And I thought that Mr. Cho achieves the apparent goal of making Shanna somewhat ingenuous despite her sexuality and initial coldness.
The relationship between Doc and Shanna is intriguing and I liked that Cho focuses on Doc's interest in Shanna's morality (or lack thereof) instead of her carnality.
One of the curiosities of the book is an apparent unresolved plot thread involving Doc and another character. (And this apparent unresolved thread helps suggest that "Shanna" was meant to be an ongoing series.) But this apparently unresolved thread actually adds to the story. Because as is with real life, things don't always end neatly and you cannot control what happens. A second curiosity is Mr. Cho's apparent interest in graphic death scenes (including the repeated depiction of dismembered eyeballs). This is a minor drawback.
"Shanna, The She-Devil" is a well-written story for adults. And if it was shortened into a finite story instead of an ongoing series, that only served to make it better. For some stories are better when they have a definitive ending.

Funny!.......2007-01-22
I bought three copies of this book as funny Christmas presents, and they were a big hit. One of the people I gave it to, just after opening it, began to read several small sections aloud to the rest of us, and it was very entertaining.
Fun to read, lots of laughs.......2006-05-17
This is the book you sit down and read any part you wnat when you want a good laugh. After that you pick up one of her cook books and see if you can match her creations. Just a easy, fun, laugh.
God Bless Ruby Ann!.......2005-05-26
The finest book on Amazon.com! If I could give it 6 stars, I would. Ruby Ann has enlightened me on the finer things of life - how to make a gingerbread trailer for special guest kinda entertainin'; a cigarette butt Christmas tree - no festive Yuletide is complete without one or two in the ol' double-wide; a macaroni picture frame - the perfect gift to show your family and friends that you truly care!
As if all this wasn't enough, Ruby Ann delights us with the comings and goings (and occasional gossip) of the denizens of the High Chapparel Trailer Park.
Pity there are no trailer parks here in NYC(well, perhaps the Manhattan Plaza qualifies as a high-rise trailer park). People up here need to know the gadzillion uses for cream of mushroom soup and duct tape. I don't know about you; but, I prefer my car on cinder blocks in the front yard and my broken old washin' machine right there on the front porch.
Let's just say this is Ruby Ann's homage to the Red States and leave it at that.
SAW HER ON JOHN WALSH SHOW.......2004-03-25
After seeing Ruby Ann on the John Walsh Show I ordered her book. My mother was over at the time and Ms. Boxcar had both of us in tears from laughter. So as soon as the show was over both my mother and I ordered her book, I purchased this one and my mother purchased "Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park Cookbook". Can I say that the books were even better then she was on TV. My mother and I couldn't put them down. And the funny thing is that neither of us has ever lived in a trailer park, but we still get the jokes and the humor. Eventually we swapped books with each other. All I can say is that both books were pure pleasure, and the food is pretty good as well. My mother and I have already ordered all her other books and soon we will have two sets, one for me and one for my mother. We can't wait for our next Ruby Ann fix. If you enjoy eating as well as laughing, then this book is a must.
BUY TWO OF THESE BOOKS.......2003-12-14
I made the mistake of buying one book as a gift. I'd heard how good Ruby Ann's books are, and I have a pal that is a big Martha Stewart fan, so I ordered this book for her. When it arrived I started to wrap it up, but paused to glance at it. The pictures caught my eye and after just one page I was hooked. Not only didn't I wrap the book, I took it to my bedroom to keep for myself on the nightstand. I first tried to read it as fast as I could before our gift exchange, but with each page my feeling of personal possession grew stronger. I ended up having to buy a second copy to give to my pal, and additional copies to give to my other friends as well. The lesson here is that if you plan on giving "Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park Guide to Livin' Real Good" as a gift, don't open it up, or just pick up two copies, one for the gift and one for you. I've already told all my friends to get me her other books this year. Now if they just come through. Ruby Ann Boxcar is 100% fall-out-of-the-bed-with-laughter funny regardless if you live in a trailer or not.

Would never purchase from them again..........2005-09-15
What I recieved did not include everything that was promised in the ad. There was highlighting throughout the book and most of the excercises were already completed. I would have returned it, but then I would have been charged a 10% reshelving fee that I was unaware of prior to purchasing... Stay away!
Book Description
The definitive work on the most important convention in bridge, Very reader-friendly.
Customer Reviews:
Worth Buying and Reading.......2006-03-25
You may quibble about some of his point ranges but this is a good book with a large number of examples and bidding sequences.
Not only does the author address the Negative double, but he discusses hand evaluation and some other bidding.
Good value for the money.
Solid work that fills a hole in the literature.......2005-09-27
Finally someone wrote the definitive book on negative doubles! This book is well organized, methodically studying each possible opening-overcall situation and looking at the alternatives to a double and the proper responses to a double in each situation. Marty's numerous examples make his ideas clear.
This book misses my 5th star for two major reasons: (1) a method of bidding over a negative double by the overcalling side would be welcome, and (2) the book does not address the alternative "negative free bid" approach (although this may be beyond the scope of this book). However, it's good to see the scientist in Marty (if you've only read "Points Schmoints" and "Marty Sez", check out the "Better Bidding with Bergen" series!) return in the Thrump Double concept!
Novice to advanced players will benefit from this book, and even experts will find some meat here.
Definitive work on one of the most important bidding tools.......2003-05-02
The negative double is one of the most important bidding tools in modern bridge. Popular author and teacher Marty Bergen has written the definitive work on one of the most widely-used conventions. Marty clarifies the best way to play each sequence; so you can avoid any misunderstandings with your partner. Responses to the double are detailed, and new concepts such as Thrump doubles will be interesting to the more advanced player.
United We Stand; Divided We Fall.......2002-06-30
Finally, an expert has put all the pieces of the negative double puzzle into a single, comprehensive, comprehensible book. If you play bridge competitively, you and your favorite partners need this book. Any two bridge players will have at least four opinions about any bidding sequence involving a negative double. Thus, you and your partner probably miss each other more often than not after an opponent overcalls your side's opening bid. Bergen explains clearly and comprehensively how you and your partner can change that.
Exactly copying Bergen's ideas may not be for you and yours. That understood, studying his ideas and considering the alternatives can only help your partnership develop your ideas and understandings. With a united position on negative doubles, an adverse overcall will lose some of its sting. Better, you and your partner will know much better when and why lowering the penalty pass boom on the overcaller is better than bidding on.
Bergen's Negative Doubles is a foundation stone in the competitive bridge player's library. Read it, let your partner read it, apply it, and watch your opponents weep.

Start with No, by negotiation coach Jim Camp, is a tenaciously contrarian guide to the art and science of give-and-take that proposes a viable alternative for today's prevailing "win-win" approach. Beginning with an inverse premise--that having the right to say "no" and veto any agreement is actually the key to favorably concluding the various deals and transactions we face every day--Camp's procedure counters the common emotion-based urge to compromise ("a defeatist mind-set from the first handshake") with a series of less intuitive decision-oriented actions. "My system teaches you how to control what you can control in a negotiation," Camp writes. "When you do so, you can and will succeed (understanding that success sometimes means walking away with a polite good-bye)." Emphasizing the importance of this underlying attitude, his method combines related steps like defining a mission, understanding the adversary, assessing fiscal and emotional investments, preparing an agenda, and tracking behavior. Each is fully explained, as are associated skills such as how to structure a question to elicit a truly helpful response (e.g., "What else do you need?" vs. "Is there anything else you need?"). Despite its unorthodox manner, if diligently applied, the route that Camp details here may indeed produce winning results. --Howard Rothman
Book Description
Think win-win is the best way to make the deal? Think again. It’s the worst possible way to get the best deal. This is the dirty little secret of corporate America.
For years now, win-win has been the paradigm for business negotiation—the “fair” way for all concerned. But don’t believe it. Today, win-win is just the seductive mantra used by the toughest negotiators to get the other side to compromise unnecessarily, early, and often. Have you ever heard someone on the other side of the table say, “Let’s team up on this, partner”? It all sounds so good, but these negotiators take their naive “partners” to the cleaners, deal after deal.
Start with No shows you how they accomplish this. It shows you how such negotiations end up as win-lose. It exposes the scam for what it really is. And it guarantees that you’ll never be a victim again.
Win-win plays to your emotions. It takes advantage of your instinct and desire to make the deal.
Start with No teaches you how to understand and control these emotions. It teaches you how to ignore the siren call of the final result, which you can’t really control, and how to focus instead on the activities and behavior that you can and must control in order to negotiate with the pros.
Start with No introduces a system of decision-based negotiation. Never again will you be out there on a wing and a prayer. Never again will you feel out of control. Never again will you compromise unnecessarily. Never again will you lose a negotiation.
The best negotiators:
* aren’t interested in “yes”—they prefer “no”
* never, ever rush to close, but always let the other side feel comfortable and secure
* are never needy; they take advantage of the other party’s neediness
* create a “blank slate” to ensure they ask questions and listen to the answers, to make sure they have no assumptions and expectations
* always have a mission and purpose that guides their decisions
* don’t send so much as an e-mail without an agenda for what they want to accomplish
* know the four “budgets” for themselves and for the other side: time, energy, money, and emotion
* never waste time with people who don’t really make the decision
Start with No offers a contrarian, counterintuitive system for negotiating any kind of deal in any kind of situation—the purchase of a new house, a multimillion-dollar business deal, or where to take the kids for dinner. It is full of dozens of business as well as personal stories illustrating each point of the system. It will change your life as a negotiator. If you put to good use the principles and practices revealed here, you will become an immeasurably better negotiator.
Customer Reviews:
Just Say NO to any other negotiation book.......2007-09-19
This book teaches that there is no such thing as a win-win deal. Read this book before you dismiss this deeply entrenched assumption. A win-win is most often and win-settle, with you ending up on the short side of the stick. Buy any of Jim Camp's stuff. You will never be disappointed.
Its really a contrarian & counterintuitive approach.......2007-09-03
This is the first book that I studied on this topic - Negotiation. I wish I had known some of the techniques described in this book, long time back. All along, I have been focusing more on the "Win-Win" kind of negotiations. This book was an eye-opener for me. I liked the 33 rules in the last chapter. That gives a quick summary of the whole book.
Very Insightful.......2007-05-07
I am a pricing expert with 25+ years experience and even I learned a lot from this book. While I disagree with the author that it is rarely possible to have a win-win negotiation, he is absolutely right that professional purchasers are usually out to take advantage. I have never read anything that explained so clearly and readably the mindset, as well as the tactics, necessary to sell to those customers profitably. He shows how being willing to walk away gives a seller the power to make some good deals.
Cut Through The Confusion... Read This Book!.......2007-04-11
Do you want to become a better negotiator? Read this book! I've read all of the books on negotiations and nothing compares to Jim Camp's system. I have been using a similar contrarian negotiating system I pieced together myself over the last 28 years in my Real Estate Investing business with great success. Jim's system helped me knock the rough edges off of my existing system and showed me some overlooked techniques I had not considered. This is the only book on Negotiations I recommend to any of my clients or subscribers. Not only is Jim Camp's negotiating system top shelf... he explains negotiations in a way that makes this book an easy read (unlike some of the other technical books on negotiations... blah!). Buy this book and read it now!
Negotiation is not for the sissy.......2007-02-17
Jim Camp shows why the "win-win" paradigm is bogus. It reveals weakness, not strength. And if your counterpart is an old fox, he'll be ready to jump upon your neck.
Instead, Jim suggests starting from a position of power. This is accomplished by not giving in up front. You can always back up a little, later, if necessary. If you say "no" first, you throw the ball into the other court: the other side has to expose his arguments, so you can decide how to act your best. Which may work even better when BOTH sides say no, which forces an open discussion instead of right-on submission.
Sure, it's easier to surrender early and fall for a "win-win" deal that will only rip you off. As I said, if you're a sissy, to each one his own (and the pros will "love" you for that).
Among other chapters, one deals with how much time, money, emotion and effort you should spend in a negotiation; other with why you can NOT force your counterpart to act the way you want, but rather YOU should concentrate on your own behaviour; and why you can not let your ego hang on the balance of the negotiation (something in the like of "it's business, don't take it as an ego trip").
I found this to be a very good book to upgrade my self assertion. Hope you do too.

Book Description
