St. Catherine's Monastery , Sinai .......2006-03-23
This is an excellent photographic essay on the monastery - a must-have to remind you of an exciting visit or to prompt you into visiting Sinai very soon. Both the photographs and the essay are of first class standard. And of course the author and photographer had access to parts not available to ordinary visitors which makes the book even more valuable. As a constant reminder of a once-in-a-life-time adventure I cannot recommend it enough.
/St. Catherine's Monastery.......2005-08-02
This book is a compliment to the catalogue of the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition BYZANTIUM: FAITH AND POWER (1261 - 1667) and especially to the exhibition itself. For lovers of icons this was a must see exhibition and if you were not fortunate enough to see it in person, the catalogue, accompanied by SAINT CATHERINE'S MONASTERY, SINAI, EQYPT: A PHOTOGRAPHIC ESSAY would more than suffice.
Book Description
Fashion illustration is hot. More and more, the most arresting visual images seen today are not photographed, they are stylishly drawn. This smart, sophisticated, trendsetting book showcases the work of 29 of the world's top fashion illustrators-an international galaxy of talent whose evocative illustrations often seem to define what is hip and contemporary.
The artists, who include Ruben Alterio, Mats Gustafson, Jean-Philippe Delhomme, and Jeffrey Fulvimari (the illustrator of Madonna's The English Roses), are divided stylistically into three groups: Sensualists (who work in the fine arts tradition with paint, ink, woodblocks, and stencils, and who concentrate as much on the process of illustration as the subject); Gamines & Sophisticates (whose work is figurative and who use caricature and cartooning to create characters and comment on behavior); and Technocrats (those wizards of computer-generated art who are exploring the limits of illustration's newest frontier). Together, these illustrators are revitalizing the marriage of art and fashion in the new millennium.

don't buy!.......2006-01-28
This books illustrations are dated and not very good. I only bought it because I seen, " Fashion Illustration Next" in the bookstore and thought it was great. I went on amazon to find it and this looked cheap to add so I did thinking it would be equally as impressive. I got it today, and am returning it today. Unless you are really interested in how much fashion illustration has progressed within the last 6 years buy the new edition, and leave this one in the discount bin.
Inpirational.......2006-01-28
Its such a wonderful book. I am a fashion major and its nice to see other people's fashion illustration. I have struggled to find my own drawing style and this book has definately helped open my creativity.
Good Reference.......2005-01-28
Although, this book may just seem like a pretty picture book, it is a really good reference if you're trying to discover a style/technique of illustrating. As a fashion major, this book comes in handy to see how other artists approach the figure and to learn a variety of ways to illustrate instead of referring to the same textbook croqui.
Great for inspiring fashion illustrators.......2004-06-29
Okay so it took me FOREVER to find and buy this book only to find out its the samd as Borrelli's Stylishly Drawn...and I mean EXACTLY like it nothings different aobut the 2.
Despite that I love the illustrations in it. They are very very very inspiring and helpful to fashion students and illustrators alike. ENJOY!
Great illustration ideas.......2004-02-17
I'm currently trying to create my own fashion portfolio for entry into university, the problem with me is i usually have tons of wonderful ideas, but because i'm a complete beginner my presentation skills and methods are limited. This book enlightened me on many kinds of media i could explore with.
This book gave me numerous ideas, and i always return to the book for more inspiration whenever i feel stuck.
Whether you're someone who's into classical methods or someone who loves to design digitally, this book is for you.

"Combo of wit and sarcasm.".......2006-11-18
"The Daria Diaries" is an amusing book with Daria in her own t.v. series, (and no longer teased as 'Diarrhea'), and her new life in Lawndale.
The format is similar to Beavis and Butt-Head's "This Book Sucks" (which made me laugh plenty of times): The introduction of the Daria characters; map of Lawndale, and its main locales; school situations; letters from school, etc. As a new - but not diehard - 'Daria' fan, this book helped me to get acquainted with the 'Daria' cast, besides Daria.
I just have to comment that Charles Ruttheimer III ('Upchuck', as he is commonly known) has a slight resemblance to Archie Andrews via his red hair, and hairstyle. Yet his suave manners, overconfidence, debonair attitude and grin is closely reminiscent of Reggie Mantle, who forever sees himself as God's gift to women!
The two-page section of Upchuck's "Ultrasuave Universe" website, with him featured throughout, is hilarious! Again, if you remember Reggie from the Archie comics, he always does this type of 'self-promotion', using his image...only to be humiliated later on.
But please check out the 'Mystery Lady' on Upchuck's "Babes Ahoy" webpage, featuring famous 'babes' of his liking. The 'Mystery Lady', however, DOES look a tad bit familiar... even with her image shadowed-out. ('Upchuck' really thinks he's slick!) His comment for her is equally funny - and quite correct if she finds out she's on his webpage!
Now on to 'The Daria Databases', which I happily own!
i love daria and so should you (**flinch...).......2005-10-04
wow could that title be any worse?
but anyway....
to be absolutely honest, its not the best thing you could buy.
i was hoping for some "real" (as in fake) diary entries from
daria, stating stuff like what pissed her off the other day
or whatever but its mostly just pictures with a few side notes.
if you're actually hoping to get some "insight" on her thoughts
or opinions, you wont. its more like a scrap book and nothing
more. it'd probably be better to get the dvd or movies rather
than this.
there are a few humorous comments by her but really....it just
doesnt live up to its name...or something...(?!)
...i've never written a review before so....(laugh? anyone?
ha?..) either way, its just not that great...or perhaps i made
my expectations too high?....damn...
daria's still great (or maybe i've gotten biased?...)
i'd suggest getting the dvds over this book definately.
i myself am trying to find the entire series on dvd...
i dont suppose amazon will add it on anytime soon????...
(hint hint?)
This book is a must have for Daria fans!.......2004-05-31
I know that I haven't been a fan as long as many Daria viewers, but I still have an opinion and from what I can tell this book is awesome. The T.V. show is all about Daria, but I always wondered what the other charecters were like, there homes, families etc... But this gave an inside look at others lives, not just Darias. I have watched countless hours of the show, and I learned more about Daria and her chums by reading these books than I think I ever learned by watching the show. If you enjoyed this book you will probably also enjoy Daria Database, which is about Darias website, so she can spread her sarcasm and wit to the whole world. Hope you enjoy.

the DARIA diaries.......2001-06-21
IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO DARIA MORGENDORFFER THIS BOOK WILL GET YOU STARTED
Daria is the heroine for the REST of us High School kids.......2001-06-18
"Left the town of Highland this morning with no regrets, looking forward to the move to Lawndale with excitement and anticipation. Then I remembered my family was coming, too." So starts the diary of Daria Morgendorffer, a teenage cynic who lives with her parents and overly-accesorized younger sister Quinn. If you've every watched "Daria" on MTV, you'll understand Daria's background. If not, picture Daria as Janeane Garafolo, and you'll pretty much catch on. The book contains some of Daria's journal entries, as well as the love notes between Kevin the QB and Brittany the cheerleader, a brief description and breakdown of all the characters, and (my favorite) Daria and Jane's "Babysitters Guide to New Endings for Classic Bedtime Stories"- THE UGLY DUCKLING:"...the ugly duckling looked down into the water, and there he beheld a beautiful swan. 'Wow'!, he thought, 'if I can change my life, anyone can'. He developed a series of self-improvement tapes and grooming products that he marketed to unattractive animals with poor social skills. He successfully exploited their insecurities, accumulating a large nest egg for himself and eventually retired to his own private pond with his striking swan trophy wife". Everything is included in this Dariapolooza Fest- from family vacation photos to Quinn's letter from Manatee College accepting her for the undergraduate program ("no need for you to fill out confusing forms", they write, "simply return the RSVP card in the enclosed envelope- you don't even need a stamp!") Every Daria fan needs this in their personal library for a quick pick me up!

Book Description
BATMAN BEGINS is the most anticipated movie event of Summer 2005. From director Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia), BATMAN BEGINS stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and Liam Neeson. It features a new story, a new vision, and a new commitment to the Batman legend. More than 150 of David James's magnificent photos will appear in the official BATMAN BEGINS book. Set alongside excerpts from the screenplay and short essays, the photographs will allow the reader to follow the arc of the film's story and marvel at the filmmaking magic on display-from the spectacular creation of the Batmobile, the Batcave, and Gotham City to the breathtaking action set pieces. BATMAN BEGINS explores the origins of Batman and the Dark Knight's emergence as a force for good in Gotham City. In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrialist heir Bruce Wayne travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego, Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high-tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten his city. Official Movie Date: June 17, 2005

Just to counter-balance the idiocy of "John Q. Public".......2005-10-15
If some people spent half as much time proofreading their reviews as the did spewing bile maybe they wouldn't look like they were written by a disgruntled 8 year old. This is a very informitive look at a great movie. Very highly recommended.
I have a Question........2005-07-20
Sorry, I haven't read the book, but I was wondering if there is any movie stills of Cillian Murphy (without the mask) in this book, or if I would be better off with "The Art of Batman Begins"? E-mail: kayjeckel@yahoo.com
A MUST HAVE FOR BATMAN FANS.......2005-06-25
First, ignore the review by the guy from Chile. He can't articulate the language, what makes me think he knows what he's talking about regarding Batman Begins? With any big budget blockbuster comes the inevitable parade of merchandise. Few films other than Star Wars can match the marketing juggernaut of the Batman films. Batman Begins is the long awaited beginning to a new series of Batman films, revived back to life after Joel Schumacher and George Clooney nearly killed the franchise. The official movie guide is a great scrapbook and companion to the film. It features dozens of photographs from the film, absolutely brilliant photography. There are snippets of the script as well as several short pieces detailing Batman's origins, as well as interviews. Not just a throwaway marketing item or a piece of fluff, this is definitely a collectible you'll want to have. It's informative and entertaining.

Book Description
Studying the endgame is the surest road to winning, and quick improvement, when playing those protracted or strategic struggles. Purdy shows his wisdom on the endgame from articles collected from his chess publications Australasian Chess Review, Check, and his legendary Chess World, and offers anecdotal stories and great examples on one of the most pleasant ways to learn the last phase of chess, the endgame.
Topics include: The Horwitz Bishop, Bridge Building, and an original contribution by Purdy (A Fascinating Battle Between Rook and Bishop, singled out by endgame expert Karsten Muller in his foreword) are only a sampling of the 19 chapters which are loaded with expert advice.

A bold forecast of how the coming auction culture revolution will radically transform what, how, and why we buy
Visionary entrepreneur Daniel Nissanoff breaks the news that the eBay auction phenomenon is about to explode in a big new way, revolutionizing how all consumers-not just eBay mavens-do their shopping, not only online but offline as well. The big payoff of this revolution is for consumers: They will be able to "trade up" more often to buy the brands they most want by embracing a new norm of temporary ownership: We will be able to buy more of the things we really want, because we'll also be regularly selling off the things we no longer want or need. We'll be transformed from an "accumulation nation" into an "auction culture." Consider this intriguing fact: In the new auction culture, Manolo Blahnik shoes, a Louis Vuitton handbag, a Hermès tie, or a Bugaboo baby stroller will actually be the better deals.
As huge as eBay has become-it is now the tenth-largest retailer in America-it has only scratched the surface of the potential for online buying and selling. In 2004, only 5 percent of all those who had bought something on eBay had also sold something on the site. But that is about to change-dramatically. Nissanoff reveals that a massive growth of online auction "facilitators" is under way that will make buying and selling online so hassle-free, so reliable, and so lucrative that the masses of consumers who have stayed away will jump aboard. Most prominent among the facilitators are dropshops, where you can bring your goods for sale and they'll handle the whole auction and shipping process. Thousands of such locations have opened in the last two years; they will soon be as pervasive as Starbucks shops. And that's only the beginning.
Daniel Nissanoff, who is at the center of the revolution as the co-founder of one of the leading-edge facilitator companies, introduces the full range of services cropping up-dropshops, authenticators, refurbishers and repackagers, personal reselling assistants, and closet cullers, as well as a wide variety of online shops that lease products, such as the hottest designer handbags and the latest-model golf clubs. He also reveals how all consumers can take advantage of these services for optimal shopping satisfaction and how entrepreneurs can get in on the booming business opportunities.
Even as the auction culture offers consumers and entrepreneurs a wealth of new opportunities, it will also pose serious challenges for retailers and brand managers. Nissanoff analyzes the challenges they will face and presents an ingenous set of strategies companies can employ to turn the challenges of the auction culture to their advantage.
Nissanoff writes, "Temporary ownership means just saying no to second-best and letting yourself reach for the things that will thrill you over and over again-guilt-free." Readers, start your auctions.
Customer Reviews:
Should have been good, had it not been so self-serving.......2007-03-13
I'm really disappointed in this book. The overall premise was a solid one, that if you can buy (say) a DVD for $12, watch it, then resell it on eBay for $5, it really only costy ou $7. The author goes into some of the history and theory of secondary markets, why they work, and why they are important.
Unfortunately, I just gave you the whole book. He repeats the above 3-5 times a chapter for 10 chapters, and weaves in commercials for his own, drop-shipping company, claiming that only fools or hobbyists would consider selling things on eBay themselves. I wish this book had been worth the time or money it took to read it, as the topic is a fascinating one, but instead I feel like I was duped into reading a barely disguised brochure for the author's company. I cannot recommend anything about this book.
Great Book.......2007-01-20
Great book , passed it on to another seller. Its ok to buy stuff and when tired of it put i on ebay. Lots of good ideas
Auction Anyone?.......2006-06-22
Nissanoff shows the reader how the future will most likely be from electronics to despoable goods. No longer will people just through out thier old products-rather create a new source of income. Not just for the individual but for the corp. world as well.
Drop off Shops: Great idea if managed properly.......2006-05-23
The book makes a strong case for eBay drop off stores. I currently have one and constantly need to watch what we sell. There is money to be made if the items sold are the right ones, otherwise, you can fail quickly. Overhead can eat you alive if you don't watch your business closely. Nissanoff makes a strong case and I agree, they are great for the masses who don't want to sell on eBay, or don't know how, or are too busy or just get tired of storing boxes and shipping material at home. Selling on EBay is not hard, just cumbersome and time consuming. Drop off stores are one solution that makes sense. The book has a few new ideas and makes for easy reading.
Interesting premise, could have organized better.......2006-04-30
While the main ideas in the book are not novel or ground-breaking, the author sustains the reader's interest through a very simple, "anecdote" based narration and some observations. The discussion focusing on the specific domains of a wide variety of mediums ranging from thrift shops to the auction houses of the world is very interesting. So is the discussion on future value and opportunity cost. The excellent premise(s) of the book gets lost in somewhat a rambling organization of thoughts and anecdotes. There is seemingly no real transition from chapter to chapter, making the reading somewhat annoying at times. Other than that, a good read. One wishes the author abstracted the examples (all or most of the examples are from his own or his friends) to more well-put observations. Anyone who has read any book on the impact of E-bay will easily relate to the topics, but not necessarily gain very new perspectives.
