Book Description
Fans will warmly welcome this very first book devoted to the art of seven-time Chesley Award nominee Richard Hescox. These 100 pieces are Hescox’s favorites, and they showcase the inventive and imaginative worlds he has created on paper for more than 30 years. His vividly realistic images, produced with gifted draftsmanship and augmented by a brilliant use of color and composition, have made him one of the most widely sought-after genre illustrators. The versatile pieces shown here include book covers for such authors as Marion Zimmer Bradley and Roger Zelazny, as well as work for the motion picture and computer game industries. Every painting reveals anew why Hescox has become one of the most beloved and respected artists in the field.

Guide for Seasons 11 & 12.......2005-11-06
This particular book follows the eleventh and twelfth seasons of the "Simpsons." We are offered summaries for each episode, as well as chalkboard and couch gags, hard-to-know facts and trivia, and character sketches and designs from various episodes. This is a great addition to the first two books in the series, but seems to be filled with some extra, not very essential material, just to seem larger and worthy of the price. Yet, in any event, I think if you are a big "Simpsons" watcher, or want to know more about these seasons, this book is a great purchase.
As the cover says, a complete guide...still continued..........2005-08-12
THE SIMPSONS BEYOND FOREVER! A COMPLETE GUIDE TO OUR FAVORITE FAMILY...STILL CONTINUED is probably the best book on the Simpsons that I've read, along with THE SIMPSONS: A COMPLETE GUIDE TO OUR FAVORITE FAMILY and THE SIMPSONS FOREVER! A COMPLETE GUIDE TO OUR FAVORITE FAMILY...CONTINUED. It includes, and I am taking this right from the cover, all new characters, episodes, and secret jokes you might have missed from seasons 11 & 12. The book was created by Matt Groening and edited by Jesse L. McCann. It details each episode and even has extras: Season 11 Production Art; Season 11 Character Designs; Season 12 Production Art; Season 12 Character Designs; Church Marquees; "D'oh"s and "Mmm"s; Itchy & Scratchy; Couch Gags; Who Does What Voice; and Songs Sung Simpson.
The books dedication even reads:
TO THE LOVING MEMORY OF SNOWBALL I:
YOU ALWAYS MANAGED TO LAND ON YOUR FEET.
My favorite sayings in the book are all on p. 104 - 105, "Simpsons Tall Tales":
A hungry, hungry Homer: "I haven't had buffalo in six hours. Marge, how about whipping up some buffalo sausage, huevos buffaleros, and some fresh-squeezed buffal-OJ?"
VICTUAL REALITY:
HUCK FINN (NELSON): I'm considerable hungry. We got any food left?
TOM SAWYER (BART): Hmm. Looks like we're out of cornpone, fatback, hardtack, fatpone, corntack...
HUCK: Any tackback?
TOM: Tackback?
HUCK: I mean, backtack.
TOM: Plum out.
COMPARE AND SAVE:
APU: One jug of whiskey, three plugs of tobacky, and some extra-strength opium. That will be two cents, boys.
TOM: Gasp!
HUCK: Two cents!
APU: Hey, if you think my prices are high, go across the street!
(He points at a $0.99 Store.)
I would buy this book for double the price!
P.S. - I also reviewed the first two books mentioned above.
Great!.......2005-03-22
This book is hilarious, even better than the other two! Every series, the simpsons just gets funnier and funnier. I can't wait for the next book to come out and the next series to be shown on C4. If you like The Simpsons, you will love this book.
Simpsons Beyond Forever ROCKS!!!!!!!.......2004-02-25
Wow, The Simpsons has been around a LONG TIME! Right now, they're on Season 15 and the hit show doesn't look like it will end anytime soon. Of course, the episodes are kind of stupid now and some are losing interest. The Simpsons Beyond Forever covers season 11 and 12. The book is basically a really detailed episode guide. Inside, there is an Itchy and Scratchy Filmography, Homer's D'OHS! and his mmm's, and of course, the couch gags. But, that's only part of the book.
Also, they tell everything you need to know about each episode in seasons 11 and 12. There's the stuff Bart writes on the chalkboard, quotes from the episode, a summary and hilarious pictures. With 2 pages for each episode, they have plenty of room to fit anything they want on it. They even do a The Stuff You May Have Missed section for every episode. They have even more information for the Treehouse of Horror episodes. 4 WHOLE PAGES! The episodes aren't even that great!
The book, I wouldn't consider short, but not long. The first book(The Simpsons: A Complete Guide To Your Favorite Family) almost has 100 more pages than Beyond Forever! But, Beyond Forever has enough information that the few pages don't really matter.
You'll find EVERYTHING you need to know about season 11 and 12 in this book. Basically, it's amazing. I would reccommend this true work of art to any Simpsons fan. You could watch one Simpsons episode and still find this book interesting. Seasons 11 and 12 weren't included in the drop of ideas that has suddenly come into The Simpsons. The wonderful episode HomR lets you discover Homer's only stupid because he lodged a crayon up his nose as a kid. Plus, there's the crazy Trilogy of Error episode where it tells where Homer's finger was cut off by Marge and her brownies.
All in all, this book is AWESOME! Buy it.
Simply the best.......2004-02-04
Amazing. The ultimate for any Simpsons fan!

Customer Reviews:
i made my friends read it just because it was so hilarious..........2006-12-09
although fairly ridiculous-- as if girls are going to go out SNAPPING POLAROIDS of attractive men they come across. (near the end, everything is just thrown together-- but the author admits to this, so it's pretty comical..)
MAIN CONCEPT= be available while still challenging, & learn to go to gatherings where there are sure to be tons & tons of single men (she lists every possible venue you could imagine, however... they mostly have to do with taking up different sports/attending sporting events-- wow, really?!)
[SIDE BAR.--- the author herself hasn't exactly found 'mr. right'. it's not a serious book at all, so don't expect that. it's like a modern-woman's guide on dating... point being basically 'don't let men affect you & just have fun'.]
my favorite part of the book is in the very beginning.
it's about the special 'spark' two ppl can have when they first meet... very interesting... she gets into some research done on it.
Some good ideas.......2006-02-08
She suggests ideas and places I have yet to see anyone else mention, which I really liked. What I didn't like is she has a conversation with you throughout the book as if she was sitting across the coffee table cracking jokes while conversing on Mr. Right. I guess she thinks she's funny. Maybe she is, but just give me the facts & ideas please! I found all the extra banter boring and annoying. Otherwise, she has some great ideas and I would have given her 5 stars.
Be true to yourself!!.......2005-01-08
MRRN is commonsense packaged in a humourous style. Learn to like yourself, look after yourself, and stop worrying about what men think. Perhaps I'm wrong... but surely no-one out there actually believes this is hard core scientific research? I'll eat my psychology degree if that's true! I read this book in an afternoon so, if you want to have a few home truths knocked into your brain (and appreciate a good laugh), then invest a few hours in Ms Carroll.
Don't Buy This Book.......2004-12-19
What a dreadful waste of my hard-earned money. The worst dating book I've ever read. Instead buy Find a Husband After 35 Using What I Learned at Harvard Business School by Rachel Greenwald, Surrendered Single by Laura Doyle, and Master Dating by Felicia Rose Adler. Those are a MUCH better use of your money! Mazel tov!
Hysterical.......2004-12-07
The book is written in such a hysterical style that I couldn't wait to put it down. It has a certain tone you may encounter when watching commercials - fast paced yelling (like a banshee), in desperate attempt to hold your attention, yet a style that made reading a book a torment - as did her adjectives related to men. (OK, it must be me - I don't appreciate disparaging comments or putting people down, especially not those I'd consider worthwhile sharing my time with). Makes me wonder, how good about herself a person genuinely feels if she (or he) has to refer to others with derrogatory adjectives.
A good deal of this book is dedicated to promoting the author's online dating website. At times it seems that it was the author's main intent behind writing this book. Nothing wrong with promoting her website or suggesting online dating as yet another avenue of possibly finding the man of your choice, but as you begin reading her book and every few pages you encounter "join my online dating service" - you begin to feel as if you're reading commercial after commercial after commercial. One commercial break every few pages - just as if you were watching a TV (and one of the reasons, I don't watch TV).
The premise behind getting a man in 6 weeks is that it only takes 30 seconds for a man to decide whether he would be interested in a woman or not - therefore, ultimately it only takes you 30 seconds to give the man the impression that you are the one and he's yours - at least for another 30 seconds, few hours or one-night stand. As to whether he would be your dream man and whether you'd be together more than than sharing a spicy weekend or two is debatable.
It takes much more than 30 seconds for people to discover what they have in common, how valuable they are to each other, how compatible they are and whether they share their lives to any greater extent.
From that perspective, the book is truly shallow. What you will find in this book is how to get a man's attention and possibly create that initial "click" - how to act so that a man finds you desirable and perhaps becomes intrigued to get to know better - at least until he gets what he's after.
The author does list numerous places where you may go hunting for possible candidates. Yes, it is a common sense that if you desire to find a man, you go to places which are frequented mostly by men - such as sports events, in which case I hope you truly enjoy the particular sport and are not attending the event because you are truly desperate or afraid of being alone.
One of her "wise" suggestions is dressing sexy and walking into a man's washroom. Good luck to you!
There are many other places and if you are a woman who has a rich life with many interests, your best bet would be meeting someone who shares some of those interests you are passionate about. If you have a fulfilling life, then you won't be needy, so you won't have to play the games and pretend that you're not lonely and desperate for having a man. If you are desperate, no matter what you do on the outside, and how well you think you can fake it, sooner or later, that desperation will show.
If you are happy with your life, with or without a man, then you'll be able to focus on sharing the time together because both of you enjoy it and have something valuable to share with each other, so you'll want to be together again and again, after that initial click is long gone.
As the previous reviewer noted - there are many other books with much better suggestions and of much higher quality.
Book Description
Whoever wrote "Make 'em laugh!" knew that it's easier said than done. But people love to laugh, and good comedy will always sell. With the help of this complete and entertaining guide, writers and would-be writers for film and television can look forward to writing comedy that goes far beyond stereotypic jokes and characters. In Laughing Out Loud, award-winning screenwriter and author Andrew Horton blends history, theory, and analysis of comedy with invaluable advice.
Using examples from Chaplin to Seinfeld, Aristophanes to Woody Allen, Horton describes comedy as a perspective rather than merely as a genre and then goes on to identify the essential elements of comedy. His lively overview of comedy's history traces its two main branches--anarchistic comedy and romantic comedy--from ancient Greece through contemporary Hollywood, by way of commedia dell'arte, vaudeville, and silent movies. Television and international cinema are included in Horton's analysis, which leads into an up-close review of the comedy chemistry in a number of specific films and television shows.
The rest of the book is a practical guide to writing feature comedy and episodic TV comedy, complete with schedules and exercises designed to unblock any writer's comic potential. The appendices offer tips on networking, marketing, and even producing comedies, and are followed by a list of recommended comedies and a bibliography.
Customer Reviews:
On the right track but too much compromise.......2001-01-14
This book provides some marvelous exercises for learning to think comically, which Horton claims is essential to writing good comedy. He also provides a rich history of comic traditions in many genres, which adds to the book's usefulness. He does, however, manage to skim both subjects too lightly in his attempt to put both in the same book. Thus, those who are looking for a how-to book will be dissatisfied, and those who are looking for an academic book will be dissatisfied. His treatment of comedy as a genre is too light to be considered anything other than watered down for screenwriters who are supposed to care. Did *I* enjoy the book? In most instances, yes. However, I found it too selective of what Horton considered good examples of comedy.
More about the history of comedy.......2000-10-18
The subtitle of this book is "Writing the Comedy-Centered Screenplay". It should be "A History of Comedy".
I found this book very dry and difficult to get through. Most of the useful information is found in the first chapter of two. What follows is a detailed history of comedy starting with Aristophanes and such hilarious examples of anarchistic comedy as:
"Come at once to supper And bring your pitcher, and your supper chest, The priest of Bacchus sends to fetch you thither. And do be quick: you keep the supper waiting."
Pretty funny stuff, huh? As an earlier reviewer commented, leave this one for the academics.
Writing comedy is hard work.......2000-03-29
Andrew Horton destroys the myths about sitcom and comedy writing with Laughing Out Loud. Those who believe that a writer doesn't need theory or a history of comedy lesson shouldn't write. Do us the favour and resist the temptation. Some sitcoms and comedies coming from the USA are witnesses to terrible writing. Laughing Out Load will help any comedy writer to at least get the comedy right. It helped me as a documentary filmmaker to look at serious subjects with a bit of humour. Even if you never write a comedy screenplay, Laughing Out Load will help you understand why you laugh at certain jokes and groan at others.
A Very Helpful Book.......2000-01-29
Laughing Out Loud was a wonderfull book that I found very helpfull. It is filled with great exersizes to get you in writting mood. This is a must have for all screenwriters.
Leave this one for the academics........2000-01-12
I had high hopes for this book but was regretably disappointed. This is not a good guideline for writing a screenplay. Instead I found an acadamic study of the history of comedy that had me skimming soon and often.

Book Description
Innovation, claims quality consultant Subir Chowdhury, is part of America’s DNA. No other country in the world matches America’s creative drive and its ability to turn innovative ideas into revolutionary products–from antilock brakes and steel-belted radial tires to sophisticated software and microprocessors. But as fast as we introduce new products, we lose the markets we establish to countries that know how to manufacture higher quality versions for less money. As Japanese and European firms win market share by concentrating on quality, America is continually forced to rely on innovation to stay ahead.
In The Ice Cream Maker, Chowdhury uses a simple story to illustrate how businesses can instill quality into our culture and into every product we design, build, and market. The protagonist of the story is Peter Delvecchio, the manager of a regional ice cream company, who is determined to sell its ice cream to a flourishing national grocery chain, Natural Foods. In conversations with the Natural Foods manager, Peter learns how the extraordinarily successful retailer achieves its renowned high standard of excellence, both in the services it provides its customers and in the foods it manufactures and sells. Quality, he discovers, must be the mission of every employee; by learning to listen, enrich, and optimize, he can encourage and sustain the highest levels of quality in everything the company does.
Like Fish! and Who Moved My Cheese? The Ice Cream Maker offers an essential and universal lesson about one of industry's foremost challenges in a thoroughly engaging style. For managers and executives, small business owners and entrepreneurs, The Ice Cream Maker is a compelling, eye-opening guide to the most effective ways to achieve excellence and become industry leaders on the global stage.

Great book!.......2007-10-04
This book was so well presented that I bought several to give away to people that I work with. An inspiring story about how to bake greatness into everything that we do. Not only does this book apply to business, but can be used in family, church and all other facets of life. I would highly recommend this quick read for anyone regardless of whether you are leading or following.
Excellent conditions.......2007-06-11
I received the book on time and was in great conditions as it was decribed at Amazon. I really happy with the service that amazon provides, since most of the things I bought from them were in the conditions that Amazon said they were, and I really like the companies that don not lie to theit customers!
Ice cream Maker Review.......2007-04-05
I think this is a good book with general ideas and concepts that most working in management understand but might need help with examples. It is an easy read and amusing at points. Overall its a great add to your collection.
It's about quality and then some...........2006-08-12
A little tale that mixes a message of how to sell and how to create a product worth buying. While touted as a tale about quality, as the author is world renowned for six sigma and quality leadership, I found myself really picking up on management principles around energizing and engaging your workforce. I also was paying attention to how to and how not to try to sell. At 109 short pages this book couldn't hurt anyone's ingestion on the content.
Fantastic read for all leaders.......2006-02-24
This book should be required reading for all current and new leaders in all industries. The messages included about quality translate well regardless of your industry. A must read!!
